Civilization was one series where I kinda see it as well actually, because it feels like as the 3D detail and stuff increases, the information and recognizability decreases
So it becomes a bit more noisy at a glance and it feels like you need to spend more time looking at it to get the information you need
but I guess you do get used to it and they do look good in general so it's not really like a huge problem or anything, but just something that you do notice when games increase the 3D fidelity of things

For years ppl around had custom music theme for HoMM3. It was as easy as to replace few files.

there is a lot of UE4 that is still applicable but you will learn that too but with new stuff. The difference comes in how you structure your game development. There is too many nice new techs available to ignore like Lumen, Nanite, World Partition, Metasounds etc. Combined with new methods shown in the Lyra project for things like CommonUI, EOS, the Entity system and so on, its foolish to ignore it if you do this as a career. If you are just a casual game dev, you could still use UE4 and not care as long as your product works
