While getting it free is impossible, it should be affordable for its playerbase.
I remember a Polish user in the forums saying that they was charged way more compared to Brits relative to their purchasing power.
I laughed in Indonesian
(would still try to save my money for replacing my laptop's motherboard first, though)
Can it get flowcharted? If the ai has x amount surplus, can it automatically scrap it? Dont know much about programming tho
Ck3 is somehow worse than HOI despite an engine that uses all cores so heavily that I use it to stress test my overclocks
So real
Id feel bad asking the devs why their engines are like that, like a douchbag, but i actually want to know like how tf
how yall going after da update
In the game, the historical path for South Africa makes it stay Democratic. However, it cannot ever go independent because doing so requires them to do a focus that is not available in the historical focus tree. So they are stuck as at best a Dominion forever unless UK goes down the ahistorical decolonization route.
Obviously, South Africa's historical political situation is also depicted very poorly in the game. Historically, the United Party (UP) and the Nationalist Party (NP) were in a constant tug-of-war, with the former generally representing Anglophile whites and their interests and the latter generally representing Afrikaaners and their interests. Opinions on segregation would also come to be split between these parties, with the UP softening on segregation and wanting to expand voting rights to blacks by the mid-to-late 1940s and the NP wanting to implement Apartheid. It was the NP's upset victory in 1948 that made South Africa implement Apartheid. If the UP had won that election, a highly plausible alternate history given that they got more votes and only just barely lost on seats, then we likely would've seen a very different post-WW2 history of South Africa.
I use a mod for that already
Thank god for paradox to give ningxia unit models but not manchukuo
“Desperate defence really shouldn't be a doctrine at all, but an event for Germany when they have surrender progress against the Soviets. It's meant to reflect the Volkssturm.”
5% rec pop is smth for a doctrine
Tajikisran
can Sardar Shah Mahmud Khan be added as a a general? i see no reason not to as he was a high ranking military official and Afghanistan needs more generals. Also please can we get unique high command or let them be ironman moddable?
adding onto that can we have King Zahir Shah and Amanullah as field marshals too? King Zahir Shah recieved formal training in an Infantry school, had positions as deputy minister of war and as King was Commander in Chief of the armed forces. King Amanullah was also directly involved in Military Leadership as he commanded forces in the third anglo Afghan war
it doesn't make sense that stuff will only be available to specific countries because they historically lost ww2 in a game focused on alternative history
but its also stupid that currently Germany can't have desperate defense in an historical game now
A monument for Australia should be Sydney Harbour Bridge
Yeah most likely
Thats the only landmark i can think of other than the old parliament house
Can you make all the warlord leaders field marshals aswell? pretty simple change and makes sense since yunnan, shanxi and sinkiang dont have their warlords as starting generals
'
Honestly not bad concept
I only hope there will be a way to automate it
Otherwise it would get really annoying, especially in the late game imo
... man, the amount of micromanagement the next DLC's HQ stuff is going to require has me really, really worried.
The game is already insanely crowded with buttons you need to constantly keep clicking if you don't want to mess things up, and now they're going to add even more things you need to constantly keep clicking on your units.
Imagine all of your generals being captured
time to mod mios out of the game
Some mods do it I think, so probably possible
At least you can queue up traits on those, they aren't as click-heavy as stuff like the Bulgaria political decisions or the faction goals where the AI will snipe you and pick a garbage goal if you aren't fast enough on the click.
yea ai shouldn't be allowed to pick faction goals when there's a human in the faction
or like
they should remove a lot of trash goals
and rules
AI quite often picks dumb rules when Im faction leader, havent seen them pick goals yet
So is applying a general to any army optional? Or do you have to do that now in order for the bonuses to effect divisions? Just seems risky to have them on the map
It seems like it would boost the effectiveness of commander abilities at the cost of increased risk, limited range, and the need to constantly babysit the division to which your general is attached so that you can pull them out when they're in danger and relocate them if you need them elsewhere.
Is this a good tank design or nah? Playing with cheats on btw
Micro hell for SP, but probably good for MP
The opposite. Singleplayer at least has the luxury of regular pauses, and the AI is bad enough that players wouldn't necessarily be pressured into deploying generals and wouldn't need to worry as much about getting their generals encircled. Multiplayer doesn't have pauses and has way more cutthroat players, so the micromanagement is going to be much worse.
Micro has literally always been the main feature of multiplayer. They are already en masse microing divisions
Meanwhile SP can just battleplan
So naw it’s not opposite
... have you played multiplayer in HoI4?
Have you?
if capturing generals is a mechanic then encirclements should have a pow mechanic too
I think it should be optional with the general giving their normal bonuses but if you want you can make them give better bonuses but on a more concentrated space
Feel like treatment of POW’s would be a topic HOI4 devs would avoid
That’s how I interpreted it
i feel like pow treatment is relatively tame compared to being able to kill tens of millions troops or being able to use nuked
I asked Paradox about it before and they seemed very against having such things
Just because they’re technically non combatants at that point and are subject to different rules
even if you couldn't use them for construction or production they could be a peace deal mechanic maybe
like if you return pows they get added back to the original country's manpower pool but if you don't then they count as like a noncore population to your country maybe idk
Yes. That's why I'm asking, because in the games I've been playing, people have actively been complaining about how much clicking they need to do to play countries competently.
The fact that everyone's so preoccupied microing units means all the other clicks that need to happen are even more annoying.
i know this will probably go unnoticed by the devs but it is worth a shot:
would be nice if Ulanhu would be avaible for Mongolia since he resided in it (and even had ministerial positions) up untill the start of ww2 when he started his march to reach the Yan'an base, thus unless communist china take the focus to ally him, he should remain in mongolia imho
Also would be nice if:
1770738834631.png
this icon is used for the british Raj maybe by giving a focus to the loyalist branch in which once completed, it unlock a national spirit (with the icon above) that gives small bonuses to militia troops and the possibility of rising militia like troops (mimicking a little the "Mongol banners" of Mengjiang but instead of irregulars it will be militia troops, reminishing a little of the sepoys of the 1800s (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/suggestions-for-the-baltic-states-nsb.1512287/)
I've been checking things from the beta and seeing Portugal getting a bunch of Brazilian characters after unification makes me wish this was a standardised system for diplomatic unifications.
Another example is the Iberian Union, I would love for Portugal/Spain to get characters from the other after a peaceful unification of the nations and I'm pretty sure there are other instances where this could also be applied.
there should be two mutually exclisve focuses in the German democratic focus tree (or at least an event) where you either keep the king as a figurehead or completely become a republic
Is their a way to save templates if I make one and wanna use it in a future game?
division templates i dont think so, but plane ship or tank designs if you have certain dlcs can be
How is naval AI in the beta looking? I know that was a major pain point in stable
Thats already a thing
really ?
yes
thank you
Do we have any date when 1.17.4 will leave open beta?
there will be an update to the beta this week
so we dont know yet
Ok, so there is no need to rush my translation effort 😄 I know that there is beta available, but I will wait for final version of 1.17.4
Should there be a League of Nations function ?
doing something like an arms embargo in this game has little effect since nothing stops a minor power from producing all types of equipment
Yeah
How would it function?
Hi brick
Maybe +30 opinion with members, marketplace access, naval docking rights but no mil access?
So it would blanket apply that to all those nations?
oh cool they buffed his trait
50% drift is kinda not great since yemen only has one state so this will make flipping ideology harder, also those focuses that boost ideology like the soviets to turn the middle east commie or germany making the middle east fascist
What are the vibes regarding the latest Army HQs Developer corner?
Sounds cool
i think they forgot to make assyria available in the category as they can't see the decisions in the game while its supposed to
Baller name
Prince of the believers insane
drift defense is only against foreign afaik
so its against the influence foci yeah
50% is a bit too much imo
realism
sana'a region has historically been very staunch against foreign interventionism. while in aden/the south you see more foreign powers come in (also because of more accessable terrain)
i think it makes sense as long as they only have 1 state
bet you can do it as a gimmick as democratic Switzerland
as the hq of the League of Nations was in Geneva
South Africa needs a rework where you either side with the British government and join the Allies and a democratic country or side with the Afrikaners and overthrow the government and become an independent Boer republic (with a Balance of power mechanic where siding with the British increases political power gain and stability however, it gives you debuffs for the army and decreases war support) via an election or a coup. You can either join the Axis, re approach the Allies or fight alone. Consequently, you can enact the Apartheid where it reduces recruitable manpower by -25% but increases stability and war support (however it also increases risks for potential revolution by the black majority). You can side with the Boers or the Black rebels if you won't prevent it. If the rebels win, you can either turn communist or select a king ala Congo (including playing as a modern Zulu kingdom) and subsequently form the African union and become an anti-colonial force (Communist or Monarchist). If the Boers win, the regime will remain and get a debuff for 365 days about the aftermath of the rebellion and you won't have an uprising anymore. Additionally, if you stay Boer, you may get a choice of getting a personal union with the House of Oranje of the Netherlands or expand the Boer republics, plus getting buffs for infantry and militia (including climate bonus to desert and plains and heat resistance).
you can correct me on that
At least a historical path when you ended up as an apartheid state by 1948.
I think the current game is pretty accurate, SAF ended up fascist and independent after 1946.
Yes, I agree. Considering the USSR's otherwise very poor historical accuracy, keeping troops in the Far East is a very senseless AI logic. Especially since Japan has no event of violating the Neutrality Pact.
Apartheid and National Conservatism should be included as fascism subideologies, tbh.
is the patch good?
It helps out the Russians
like helping them getting started on their mils
plus two crucial focuses in terms of armor now take 35 days
shaders in mods still didnt get fixed
apartheid is really only specific to south africa so idk
of course
if it's a DLC that has to do with revamping the Allied majors like France, the US and the Commonwealth, then South Africa and Egypt should get some love along with Canada
not something major but something to freshen them up and with a new flavor
especially with Egypt and South Africa
not sure about French Indochina or French Morocco
nah south africa needs a crazy rework
Absolutely
and canada needs a rework just to be on par with other countries
of course
so, America, France, UK, Canada and South Africa
(with perhaps Egypt as a new country, albeit a dominion)
or like a theatre pack
an African theater pack
maybe with morocco and tunisia also being released
yeah
I'd also argue French Indochina getting a few goodies like with New Zealand in the next dlc
maybe being a French puppet with a few national spirits
maybe more portraits for them for npw
of course
i dont think its in there scope for the dlc to add new countries
id expect portraits for them
yeah
hope so as New Zealand took the Japanese threat seriously
so, French Indochina, Burma and Malaya should at least get portraits, decisions and spirits including generals
but not fully fledged stuff
different but kinda
they should also have some sort of mechanic/events with the levant and sudan
of course
i mean they did do that
the only weird thing really is the sahara desert
because egypt was neutral in ww2
yeah
you can play the historical path of being neutral
but not sure about alt hist stuff
Would be good for NSB-Oost Indie path
how would the game handle that
since they got invaded
idk im not a dev
are there any people here who have ties with a dev
the developers typically
Ethiopia treatment
yeah then they just won't implement it
They would be in the allies..just not able to join the war
because them not being in the war was irrelevant
it is for historical gamers
Untill italy invades
they care very deeply about historical accuracy
but they didn't
they still didn't join
just no one asked them
Well we all know hoi4 isnt some Grand simulator
I wanted to use that but sadly it reference Japanese system. Rewording it to be more generic would be good
I don't argue for the inclusion of every single country in 1936
idk a lot of other countries use it
only the ones that had interesting stuff
A lot of countries can use it if they removed the Japanese-specific wordings
however for countries that did nothing, there is always room to add (not much)
For now, only Japan
Manchukuo IIRC uses Rexism before NCNS
manchukuo shouldnt start as fascist
should they start non-aligned ?
lofc
the concordia assocation was reorganised when the taisei yokusankai came into power
effectively making it a fascist state
Again, the problem i have is with the subids
so it goes from a despotism to emperor fascism
Tbh with y'all, the reason I haven't added my own subids there is because it would be a hassle to correct other countries.
i modded rexism to be corporatism instead
Marhaenism can be included in Social Nationalism (democratic). For now I used populism for Sukarno (the only current vanilla example is democratic Brazil) in EIR, but Hatta would be socialism despite both of them are actually social nationalists.
A lot of conservative and gen_fascist leaders can be pooled into Conservative Nationalism (nonaligned) subid.
shaders in mods still didnt get properly fixed
for example in the fire rises mod map on the last beta path looks like this (left picture)
and how it looked before NCS and 1.17 path released (right)
<@&846894118219022336> scam here too
Speaking of Iran, the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran is a mess ingame right now.
In reality it took six days. Ingame it takes years as neither the USSR or the UK deploys the forces necessary to overwhelm Iran's army defending in mountain territory.
It might be better to represent it by an event than an actual war on historical, unless a serious overhaul can be done to how it plays out.
kinda defeats the purpose of irans historical tree
it wasn't my argument
Any plans on adding advisors and generals for the reorganized government of china? Since its overpowered after coring all of china, having no generals or advisors makes it illogical for gameplay, Also a decision to change the capital to nanking or Alternatively to Beijing. what about Japan having the ability to establish a hui puppet state which they considered in real life using spies and brainwashing but failed? Also Japan could have the decision to establish a japanese military government in Korea via shogunate and fascist path which might use the "japanese general resident of korea" flag.
Irl they sorta do a peacedeal like Iraq, but that branch is either too long/not done by AI, I think
I havent tested in vanilla but the timeout for them to be allowed to join the Axis seemt quite short in the past, especially if youre not invading from 3 sides
The latest update kinda bugged greece [monarchist path George II]
how?
i played it
its seems fine
The update sai now if you go with the monarchists you can still do the Focus [An Orthodox State] and the rest of them but not only i can't do that i can't even join the Central Powers it says thst George is not currently the king even though it is
Also in the Orthodox focus it says I need to have the
- National spirit of Ioannis Metaxas
- Current leader is George II
- Current leader Ioannis Metaxas
- Not in a Faction
Which obviously you can't do all of the 3
[Not including the Faction]
Mods:
- Road to 56
- Road to 56 Rp
- Road to 56 TommyKay
[I don't think the mods have a problem since they are updated]
Idk this is the problem i hv
patchnotes say they only allow you to do orthodox state
which i could do
Oh then ok but I still have the Centeral powers Faction and the Orthodox problem
Clearly it says that I have George country leader but the focus doesn't recognize it
can do that too
try turning off mods amd checking?
Definitely doesn't look related to 1.17.4
is it an issue in rt56? or one of the sub mods
Hard to say, we override the BftB tree to apply bugfixes among other things, but a submod could be overriding it further
Ok give me a few min and I'll tell you
You cant load that save without mods, youd have to use console commands or wait a bit to redo the path
iran in general is kinda messy
you get reza shah pavlavi back as an FM if you go islamic revolution for example
it can be exploited on communist path
yeah
its cool
we should tell batya to fix Iran
Han Youwen and Han Yimu should get their portraits
modded han youwens portrait
but han yimu doesnt have any sources for portraits
yeah
the devs should ask permission from the Kaiserreich community for that
as for yimu we should speculate on what he looked like
i got youwens portrait from the new ways mod
idk for yimu but it seems like paradox can just make up faces sometimes
yeah
sheng shiqi for example i couldnt find any source or photo of him
is he in the game?
yep, maybe a generic Ma general portrait
sinkiang general
rather than a generic generic portrait
same with him
it should be generic but more clique-specific
than it being a reused one
idk where paradox get there photos from
but it might be an actual portrait of shiqi
not sure who is the artist
just obscure source
another example is one of the generals in afghanistan
something tarzi
couldnt find any portraits of him online but they do exist somewhere
yeah
it's a speculative one but still better than a reused one
does anyone have his hands on the portraits of the two Ma generals
not hard to find han youwen
That’s so low quality it would be hard to even make an accurate portrait
just check out the one new ways made for him
also the artists have probably worked on lower quality ones
open beta hasn't fixed anything AI navy-wise yet*, still spotting their oldest ships and destroying them with ease, most of the time they have alot of ships on a region yet there are no naval dominances (most of the sea should be red) and i have not spotted ANY carriers or good heavy ships (with a spotting cruiser fleet btw) 💔
this is a good opportunity for those who wanna do the Put the raid on the Medway to Shame achievement
also spotting ships may also be broken
Don’t worry they might fix Navy AI by spring. But they’ll just end up declaring it fixed then leave it broken for a year and go on holiday
guess i'll try out the Better Navy AI mod to see if it fixes a japan game
That’s probably best you can hope for now but it seems like they’re just doing their best to nudge the issue
welp, for once in my 6000 hours, the Better Navy AI mod succeeded in killing the japanese navy, a MOD fixed a massive game-impacting bug that a developer team cannot (or won't) fix!
they even succeeded in spotting & intercepting one of my main fleet, something i rarely see the AI do in any of my playthroughs, vanilla or modded!
but in the end I prevail!
There is still no Mengkukuo focus tree!!!
That is a shame, innit
At least let them play with the warlord tree
And also, Japan's puppet state in China (tag: RNG) should have been a starting tag
Not really related to MEN not having a focus tree, but I thought it was disappointing that they didn't go for it
Yeah. Have a warlord style focus tree but with a bit of a Mongolian flavor to it
with a unique subranch related with allegiance to Japan or your fellow Mongolian brothers in the Comittern
but its not the same is why they havent
of course
like
I didn't say that they should have a warlord focus tree
youd need proper mongolian content
Of course
which is something a fair few players want
and it takes a lot of time and effort to research then write then code
Proper Mongolian content is needed for the three steppe countries
(including the releasable Kumul Khanate)
Which is probably why they didn't commit to it in this DLC, you see
I do still think the warlord tree would do as a stopgap measure though
I can think of it as a minor country pack
Love me Republic of Inner Mongolia
as much as I love mods, they can be very janky and full of bugs plus the constant need to update them with each passing DLC
hence why I want changed to be done in vanilla as that way they can be more polished
plus, I do hope that the Ma generals get the Sheng Siqi treatment
one has a photo, the other doesn't but we can draw a picture of what he might've looked like
if the Czechoslovakia focus dlc is a success and doesn't cost much, Yugoslavia should follow suit
Yugo getting its third rework moment
Death or Dishonor tree, revamp during BftB
And now the one you are hoping for
really?
Yeah, the old yugo tree was similar, but had less in everything
yeah
Huh?
Reformed Government? Sure, in 1939 start
Reorganized Government? No
The reorganized national government, something formed in like 1939, should be a starting tag?
You can play them you know
Just play China
When Japan forms it, you can switch to it
Yeah, this too.
It was in 1938
Provisional Government even formed in late 1937
Then both are Reorganized into one
Yeah, it should start as the East Hebei Autonomous Government
The government body that preceded the Reorganized Government
Which was founded in 1935
Would Japan be given a claim to Tannu Tuva if it completes A Green Persimmon or The Persimmon has Ripened?
it technically exists at game start
as east hebei
which is more or less the direct predecessor
that should def be in the game idk why it wasnt added even as a skeleton when jordan and palestine exist
chinese resistance shouldve been made into an actual mechanic with significnat debuffs to supply and divisions spawning and such but japan gets the ability to manage the conquered land with the various chinese puppets the way germany gets to do so mid war
Would've made sense for the east hebei autonomous region to be either a demilitirized zone like what they did with danzig or a puppet
Starting nation Kuwait before Egypt
Danzig would've been interesting as a starting nation, shame it can't be released unless you let it occupy your territory while owning germany so they could form germany, have cores, defeat them and then release yourself as them
Or I guess you can cheat with commands
Man i hope khotan ma get a ma zhongying secret path
Probably one of the most interesting characters
He disappeared in 1934 and some sources such as sheng shicai say he was executed in moscow in 1937
They never should have given those random middle eastern countries tags at game start. They are beyond useless. If they were to have added a tag, it should have been egypt
when china get annexed how does it even come back as the reorgainsed gov
japan focus tree
on historical the Ma cliques (sans Khotan Ma) should unite into Xibei San Ma before the war with Japan, so there aren't two extra tags to interfere with an already delicate balance
No way sans undertale?!?!
lol
Whats the problem exactly though?
I dont think they lag put the game that much
would there be an option to have “Hitler-dono” if the civil war in Germany succeeds and Japan turns fascist ?
also add a hidden “Joe Stalling” for the US if the Soviet Union falls
if he exists in-game that is
plus the option to have Khruschev when the civil war or the coup succeeds
next update should completely delete navy
How un-American.
We love our carrier strike forces here
i would love my carrier strike forces if it made any sense at all in game
skibidi san ma was peak
what even is navy tbh
Have other capitals protect the carriers, have screens protect all the capitals
Set a home base in the are by ctrl clicking a port, set a mission, and win
Just dont use strike force to build supremacy
Strike force is a force multiplier
You need something there otherwise anything times 0 is 0
setting a home port did not work because i did this for my whole fleet so they would dock in the phillippines and japan declared on me and like half my fleet is still docked in malta
when the game actually decides to move my ships around instead of taking everything i do as a suggestion i sink lots of ships but oh my lord it doesn’t do anything i tell it to
Idk. You only have like 1 or 2 task forces per fleet usually unless it is subs or patrol fleets
Very easy to just move a few units around basically
Make sure you have all your task forces selected when you ctrl right click a port to make them go to their new home base
And make sure they can actually do their missions
1 task force cant patrol 7 sea zones
navy is more fun then army
too bad the game is incapable of creating any scenario where you actually have to try
truth nuke
naval blockades were not thought through, there are no ways to get a country to remove their naval blockade
and things like these happen
wdym you can break blockades
aka get a country to >remove< their naval blockade
ai does it automatically when they get bored/notice they cant enforce it
how
put ships in zone
in every playthroughs since they added it, none of the countries that naval blockaded me ever removed it
probably because you didnt contest the blockades?
I did
Sinkiang should had more alt paths in my opinion
The warlords weren't exactly the main focus of the dlc
true but in my opinion sinkiang could had a alt path where they go and unite turks or somthing like that
That's a formable, right?
I do hope the Salar general portraits are placeholders just so they can get new portraits
yes, Turkestan
paradox never going to get rid of hackers
should've added an east turkestan path maybe
Yea somthing like that
that can work with something like Kumul
too much work for them
I suggest it to be a shorter path
again, it'd work with the Kumul Khanate than Sinkiang
uhh
What mod?
a lot of folks want an East Turkestan path for Sinkiang but I think that with Kumul is much more plausible
maybe adding Osman Batur
If i remember right u cant start game as Kumul wich would mean u still would need to start as Sinkiang and go down the turkestan path and then declare independent war againts Sinkiang with Khotan ma support
yeah
not sure how this would work if implemented
as the only path with March of Khotan is that you win with Soviet help and either become a puppet or decide to make Sheng Shikai a king
hence why I proposed that Kumul should have an East Turkestan tree before forming Yettishar before then forming either Turkestan or the Mongol Empire
maybe in size similar to Reorganized China
i think a lot of these "king" titles are symbolic
you can already form china
I know
its east of turkestan so should be fine
I agree
I argued that despite being a releasable, Kumul Khanate has potential of first forming the East Turkestan republic and then Yettishar (the latter can be done in game of course but I wanted to add an in-between)
similar to the Reorganized Government of China puppet state
that doesnt actually make sense though
probably just expand on the kashgar clique path
mahmut muhiti served in the first turkestan republic army
maybe add a final focus called "Proclaim the Second East Turkestan Republic"
it's too early by a decade but I guess it fits
or just call it "East Turkestan"
can work
the second was a soviet backed state though
and it was only called first because the second was formed
so just "reform the Turkestan Republic" can work
yeah, he should be added via a decision or event called "Hire Osman Batur"
maybe a way to turn communist
that can be quite an interesting path
we can add it in while keeping it short
as it is still a warlord faction
ma zhonying secret path tho
is it plausible ?
he disappeared in 1934
and some accounts such as from shicai say he was executed in 37
wonder for what country would you add it in ?
I am certain still Khotan
or Sinkiang
probably khotan still
as much as everyone here pesters me about "there's a mod for it" I prefer seeing these changes in base game
or potential leader over elhan tore
yeah
still, seeing East Turkestan as a formable faction would be interesting to see
if you go down the anti-KMT path
and I know that I asked this a lot but I do want the two Salar gens to get portraits in a vain similar to Sheng Shiqi who didn't have an irl photo
I am not saying that generic generals shouldn't exist but when you get gens from a focus, you should expect them to at least stand out in the visual front
I added another comment in the beta patch forum
hopefully my comments are taken notice
I'm certain that Osman should be added in the Rally the Faithful focus so you get two extra gens instead of one (the other being Yulbars Khan)
as he was one who resisted both Sinkiang and the CPC forces until his death in 1951
actually, at that time he was a Kazakh and a little known bandit leader until the 1940's where Stalin used him to rebel against Sheng Shikai
and by 1944, he became part of the Second East Turkestan Republic
so, what if... Khotan undergoing its Turkestan path hires him
i dont think suggesting stuff in the beta forum is the best way
its better to just suggest it in the suggestion forums
I did just now
There is a cosmetic tag of Sinkiang with East Turkestan flag, but maybe it is unused
I guess so
still, I do hope they do add something for the Northern Warlords like they did with Khotan and Yunnan
as they are neglected
Shanxi got left out
Out of the og warlords
Not an expert on Chinese history
just a better states mod
Same, i've advocated this for including more subideologies.
Ah ok
same here
<@&846894118219022336>
gone
Which country?
looks like russia on TFR
A bit late but some quick research landed me with this:
Shanxi had a pretty good military academy
Shanxi was a very rich province, historically because of their merchants, and later on because of the Yan Xishan industrial programmes
Shanxi had a pretty good munitions and gunpowder industry
At some point there was a plan to build a lot of oil refineries, and while that plan was cancelled, it could be focus to revive the plan
Yan Xishan worked a lot to improve the education of Shanxi, funding a lot of schools
Yan Xishan provided scholarship for nuclear physicists He Zehui
Yan Xishan tried to overthrow the Chinese government during the Central Plains War and instal himself as the new president
Yan Xishan was very pragmatic. He was anti-communist before a certain point, but then began working with them, for example letting them establish secret headquarters in his province. He also released quite a lot of communist prisoners
Parts of Shanxi were occupied by Mengjiang, and Yan Xishan wanted to retake it
Yan Xishan was sometimes called the "Model Governor" with Shanxi being the "Model Province"
At some point Yan Xishan apparently Swapped sides and fought with the Japanese against the communists
So if I had to make a very simple Shanxi tree, I'd have some focuses where you can snuggle up with the communists at game start, then have some industrial focuses based on the gunpowder industry, then funding the education sector, maybe a focus to retake that part of Shanxi that's occupied, and then maybe I'd have a choice at the end of the tree to either continue being the model province or swapping sides and fighting with the Japanese, maybe even declaring Yan as the president like he tried in the Central Plains war
great idea
You could maybe also have a choice at the start of the tree, either be pragmatic with the communists like what happened historically or you can try and fight them
Kind of like the North Eastern Army
Something like that
I keep crashing on the beta 😔 but it’s always in like 1944-1945 so eats a whole game
sometimes i really wish that each warlord actual felt more
different from one another
all of them kind of have the same end goal
Peg or autarky for Germany
Both are good
damn this looks great! indonesia will be the first asian country i play

Can't wait to, like my grandfather before me, attempt to crush the revolt in the East Indies
The glorious red white and blue will fly over the Dutch East Indies again
Naah, would love to try the reform path and achieving "Een Vrij en Gelukkig Indonesië"
Nah mate. We are going in with helicopters and napalm.
Our most valuable colony will keep its ties to the fatherlands.
But in all seriousness... I am looking forward to a focus tree for the Dutch East Indies and a slightly expanded/edited focus tree for The Netherlands
Yes, but with gentle hands, not with "sticks and swords for 300 years more" (De Jonge, 1935)
Not being able to get Wilhelmina before going to war, and thus not getting the manpower you need for a sizeable army is punishing....
It also takes away from our proud naval history since it limits the amount of ships you can possibly commission considering it all drains manpower.
Mhm
I have followed HJ Tulp's "Onderzeeboot Nekt Navalism" ATL on a certain website. It's eye-opening
There is a detail on two different sets of defence plans for the East Indies Squadron
That raid occupation mechanic is interesting. Though I’d rather the choice of choosing between full civil war and that
Mhm
That's why i did not entirely disagreed with that approach. Only that the maps still needs reworking.
Would just be nice to have as an option but not the only
Seeing Tapanuli absorbed into Westkust van Sumatra would probably make my clan mad if they know of it, awokawokawok
But Oostkust van Sumatra separated from Riouw is good.
Banzi!
I did the Showa restoration
This was a very fun game
I could go out my own speed and I was enough of the distraction for Germany to get their shit together
I think I have to pay China a visit next
I will say out of them all the monarchist path is probably the best at terms of pacing
Fifth Portuguese empire kinda needs a buff.
Like the United Portugal-Brazil gets .50% weekly stability, like 50 mil core pop early, and 1000 weekly manpower ontop of joining factions.
Fifth empire can’t join factions, everyone hates you, and only .10% weekly stability/war support and 5% extra non core.
Feel like it should get maybe an additional 10% non core, daily compliance gain and maybe division attack buffs considering its literal you V the planet.
Just seems super weak in comparison to UK Portugal Brazil, Italy, Germany, Japan etc
Think it’s a very cool unique tree forcing you to be isolated and fight everyone. Just needs to be tweaked to keep up with power creep
almost march, we should start having dev diaries
Well said, well said
Loving the new icons
Am I right in reading that the latest update isn’t on the main game branch yet?
it is
shaders still not fixed
I love Mengkukuo
<@&846894118219022336>
Awesome job HOI4 devs
Change backround button 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
hey guys
has the game been fixed?
(no, this is not a troll question)
decided to zone out for about half a year and check back in
this bro please fix map shaders
id say that fifth portuguese empire would be interesting to unite all the lusophone places as of right its just claims and wargoals. Also some of the claims are broken like some brazillian ones not getting claims. I think they should be able to core angola and mozambique at a quicker timeframe than the other paths alongside coring cabo verde, guinea-bissau, sao tome and principe and maybe even galicia.
Honestly yeah, kind of like how the Spanish empire can core its former empire. Fifth Portuguese having that would be great
Used to be one of the most fun trees in the game but now feels so dated. Especially since Portugal-Brazil has gotten so much content in the past year
Still think it should get attack and compliance buffs simply for not being able to join factions and getting -100 opinion for everyone
yeah like paraguaya and uruguay have a path where they can't join factions, but they core all of south america, spain can't join factions in anarchist path but can core the entire world
Portuguese can get like 25% non core. Yet Italy can get like 33%+
Power creep made it irrelevant
No , but its better then half a year ago . The main problems are with big vanila mp lobbys where code of game bugs out and the game starts crashing , desynching and save becomes corupted . The new dlc revorked doctrines and navy and they are now much better a fun , but it was hard to use to it.
If you are playing sg vanila its ok ,butt ai and alt his paths are still retardet . Maybe look after some mods like :
-sg : kaiserreich , darkest hour ,fallout
-mp: tfb , horst, ( i dont know alt his mp mods, sry )
i heard there are still new bugs occurring (today someone told me there is new research bug) , but its mostly ok
also devs maybe look at this bug
how TF does this work
Hover over and it says
Also this should be in #ask-for-help-here
Its basically research
No
He is pointing an oversight when the focus still completes and gives that event when GER and ITA is already at war
Probably from ITA's end
IIRC it's their focus
Oh my gosh
how do I beat the ussr
Encircle large amount of Red Army enough times
bro how
By getting good
Thats how
Its pretty easy
But its a better topic for #hoi4-general and #ask-for-help-here
Its pretty much true though
Don't even need to
It's not
They are banned and gone
Hey guys how was the 1.17.4 update? Did it improve mp experience for those who have poor internet?
It broke most mods 🥀
That's unfortunate as someone who mainly plays vanilla
Noooo not this scam again
Iran should have an artillery MIO.
you know, it's pretty funny that Morozov design bureau is a light tank designer and Astrov is medium tank designer
because irl it's Morozov that designed and produced almost all the soviet meduim tanks, including T-34
while Astrov was only about light tanks, like Т-60
should this be fixed ?
not a big deal
possibly my fastest spanish civil war
pretty good
Pls tell me that map mod
Tno map style
Oh, gotcha, thanks!
Be werry its so good its hard to play without it
I do have blue marble darkest hour, so I'm aware lol
;
Oh the new update broke most mods, surely devs will put out a patch quickly!
The humble live stream:
To be fair we've fixed it already
And considering the incompetence of the RON dev team it can't be that hard
Lol
I've only heard that this update broke mods that make modifications to the way the map looks visually
So saying it broke all mods is a bit of an exaggeration
Hey guys, I just remembered something about Danzi in the road to 56 mod is that they can form Prussia
Just something weird, which you guys should probably know
Life changing information for some
Are there any news on this DLC which should be released within a month? 💀
damm, new thing for spreadsheet.
come on PRX, I know you are using HOI4 as a lab for HOI5, just say a word.
Last year we had graveyard of empire in March right?
We should start getting dev diaries
I feel this change is an attempt at making support companies such as the maintenance company a more valid option
Personally I feel a good change to maintenance company would be an "equipment trickleback" similar to the field hospital. Surely the maintenance company would attempt to repair damaged but not fully destroyed equipment right? Would really help smaller industries.
Wait so will you not just be able to apply 5 support companies anymore?
Great job. What have you done? My Speedrun is early 1938
My tactic is take full Catalonia and Easter Aragon and go fully down
Like the way I interpret it, is the support companies only buff a line of battalions now, rather than being applied to the entire division
Meaning you can realistically never have 5 now, but like 3-4 support companies
Who only buff like 1/3-1/4 of your division rather than the entirety
If that’s the case, hate this change.
Think support companies were fine and didn’t need to be touched.
no, the divs support companies are still there.
So what do these replace? Line arty?
it is a NEW thing.
looks interesting
this is just dumb
Alright but why
support equipment is really expensive you wouldnt gain anything
theyre bloated
support companies are a part of the stat bloat skill gap
but thats generally not being addressed
It says that weapons companies will only be regimental now
So it is absolutely replacing it
idk either, maybe prx feel guilty because they adding too many schizo content recently 🙂
The fact that support arty and AA is basically getting nerfed though
Just really don’t love the fact that they have diminishing returns depending on how many lines have them
I think its to stop the tactic where you would have like a one width div with support AA lvl 2 and it would just neutralise all CAS by existing
Super cheap and can be spammed out
this isnt even how you use AA
and not how it works
the AA bonus only applies to the division with the AA
I mean 5 lines are at least quite easy to get its not like you need 9+ regiments
It’s not just AA
but AA attack is additive from all units in combat +reserves
no im saying hes wrong, not contributing to the argument
Now you’re telling me support arty will just benefit a line otherwise face diminishing returns? 😭
Wouldn’t a 1x20 combat width of infantry w/ AA not have the same AA as 10x2 combat width w/ AA?
So same cost
Except smaller div would get shredded
But wouldn’t it technically have the same equipment and manpower?
Like proportionally
You would never put JUST them on the frontline you would have your actual divisions and then one just with that
Quite frankly I just don’t like the change. But I suppose it will let me use more support companies now. Bc can have weapons on the line whereas in support I can fit 2-3 more now like medic
Have to see how it gets implemented tbh
Its either gonna be an interesting thing that makes division design more interesting
Or it'll get botched like the navy did and make people really annoyed
Agree with this
It looks promising
We can speculate all we want but so far it looks decent
But we have to see how it's implemented
we need new combat units
But I personally think it looks cool
the thing is paradox need to fix their game and stuff first before adding a bunch of bloat, the AI already needs fixing and by complicating it even more its going to ruin gameplay not make it more fun
It’s a clear nerf for weapons support for sure. But I like I can effectively have additional support companies now. Never used medic or some other companies but now can
IMO the navy system was implemented really awkwardly and more convoluted which made a lot of people who got familiar with the old system angry, so hopefully they dont make this a MASSIVE change that completely changes everything
Its one of those things of changing a system everyone is familiar with is an awkward venture
hello
Tbh has zero impact if you just let navies auto choose ports 😂
what yalls think bout this idea
Wym new combat units
Same
I miss having massive smacks with the IJN or RN
i mean combat battalions
The USN would NEVER engage me though honestly no idea why
Though AI seems to do 50-60 strike groups again atleast
Like apart form infantry, special forces
What did you have in mind
well i wanna see a concsript battalion
very cheap fast and easy to train
Is that not just militia?
a conscript batallion
a batallion of conscripts
because their scout suck, and they mess up new "don't fight specific ship type" button
Right, I just don’t see it working differently than militias in game
I think he means more of a unique infantry batallion that has less stats but can be trained a TON faster
Militia is quite unique in their terrain buffs and such
yes correct
People realistically would just cheese those so they can spam out 100’s of divisions quick then convert
well yes
Basically makes the idea of training divisions void
Even before the navy change the USN would just never do a decisive battle with me would only send cruisers lol
Best way to do that is make it you cannot convert conscripts into anything else but thats a whole different undertaking
no? i remember that it happen quite often.
how about a bigger better howitzer and a mortar unit
Must just be me then
USN would never wanna fight me but the IJN my god they would THROW themselves at me
i also wanna see is a sturmtruppe battalion
alr
Its a support company to my knowledge
I think its because the "Stormtroopers" idea kinda got usurped into the combined arms warfare
Germany didnt have the full on dedicated "Sturmtruppe" because the panzergrenadiers filled that role
maybe you don't use convoys raid much, i remember many decisive battle are evolve from convoy raiding/escort
Dont get me wrong nations still employed shock troops with body armor
alr sorry
But the full on dedicated storm troopers got usurped into the mechanized warfare
alr
Dw you dont need to apologise lol
You could add shock troopers if you wanted
alr
yes ik
Soviets used shock troops with PPSH's and body armor for infantry assaults that could work
More of a support than full on battalion though
Like those were more platoon/squad based
Yeah its the closest thing I can think off
Since most "Shock troops" were mechanized infantry
Yeah thats the beauty of modding
Add whatever you feel
I added HIMARS cause I thought it was funny lol
fr?
Honestly I think the game has a wide range of units currently. But more should get shock troops
Yeah special project for MLRS systems
show me in dms
What other special projects could even be added at this point? Troop transport Helis?
id like to see super dreadnoughts
I added super battleships to lol
Think like Hannover in wows type thing
INSANELY expensive
alr
Also added hybrid cruisers for navy larp since I like that
Its just awkward cause you gotta code all the modules and stuff
Tbh wish there was a modern variant of every ship class
Not just carriers and battleships
Nuclear Submarines are also kind of modern variant of the regular submarines 😛
You are playing monarchist France
When you go alt-hist, especially as a major, other countries will cancel their historical plans
I guess I meant moreso cruisers and destroyers since we have modern subs, carriers and battleships
Make zeppelins great again?
Though beyond spotting I’m not sure how blimps would function
If I had to add more special projects I’d add:
- Modern Destroyer
- Modern Cruiser
- Modern Infantry Equipment (think Cold War guns like assault rifles such as the AK-47)
- Transport Helicopters
- Night Vision techs (locked behind special projects rather than on tree from start)
- MBT (late game modern tank)
(All of these are inline with what’s already in the game and would diversify late game content and early Cold War scenarios)
Mothership aircraft
I thought so too but they’re pretty big and slow targets to WW2 aircraft.
The fastest ones only go about 70 mph or 115 kmh
rifles on special projects dont make sense
For a modern assault rifle it kind of does since a lot of energy had to go into developing them
There were a lot of fascinating uses for blimps and zepplins during the interwar, but most were civilian uses. I would say that USS Akron would be a pinnacle definition of airships in military function for ww2. A patrol airship designed to hunt for fleets in the vastness of the pacific ocean.
So as patrol aircraft could be neat in game yeah. Maybe as a long range spotter
Assault rifles had a lot of innovations to them like selective fire, removable magazine, new ammunition types. And many countries didn’t see them till 1944 or beyond.
I mean the gun research in game ends 1942
Besides airships though, what do you guys think about the implementation of regional support companies as opposed to line battalions?
Didn’t the US try something with it
The US navy to be specific

USS Akron. A patrol airship for the US navy in the pacific theatre. Equipped with parasite fighters that would be used to scout for the enemy fleet and protect the mothership. Unfortunately, it was lost before combat service due to bad weather
hi chri sti gpa
me likey
If modern infantry weapons are added, I think a good candidate for it would be the FN FAL
add one:
sattelite & space stuff
MP5?
i can't get why artillery reduces div org
Because artillery is a logistically intensive thing to move around
The infantry need to protect it, it takes a while to hook up and move around, it requires much more supplies
Additionally the infantry can only advance as far as their artillery can keep up (Think the germans having to pause at dunkirk due to outrunning their artillery)
So it reduces division organization due to it being a very demanding thing to move around and supply in a sense
but it makes all the line artillery useless 😟
Yeah sadly Line artillery isnt great due to it
Take the fire concentration sub doctrine to help it a bit
So you master a sub doctrine by training and using the units in battle
So for the fire support doctrine its artillery and support companies
Infantry, and Armor and self explanatory and I think operations can master from it all
So just train and use the units in battle
"instantly grants?"
Yeah when you select a sub doctrine it will instantly grant one buff
You then master to the milestones to get more
Once you fully master a sub doctrine it will grant a "Grand doctrine" buff related to what you selected
In your case a superior firepower buff
Np
its not the reason but it doesnt help
Yeah theres a multitude but thats a big one for me the org penalty
the big one is breakthrough
org isnt that relevant
how could soviets use the whole artillery brigades and divisions while having ZERO org bruh 😬
There was a minor hotfix today to fix an issue with Tech stacking weirdly, should be live now
When will thunder at our gates first dev diary come ?
Sometime this year I’d assume
before 2100
W?
paradox PLEASE add a gamerule that stops the ai from spamming last stand
this is the 5th time in a row
when doing the beaten but not defeated civil war path as ussr is the civil war easier if you delete all of your army before the war?
find out
casey on a murder streak today
what did i do
im trying to figure out what inf doctrine to use rn
and im confused
nothing just saying hi
when in doubt, default to larp
im playing saudi arabia idk what the larp is
Great War Inf clearly
no
oh did i mention i have the mod on that wont let me research just for fun
so all the infantry is like, gun 0
artillery is questionable to attain
the industry sucks
Why are you torturing yourself
the manpower is alright after going to war with the uk
its interesting
but so, i didnt know what infantry doctrine to pick because most focus on buffing infantry
which, doesnt need to be buffed
so assault infantry seemed best
i mean i made a tank division cuz i licensed the type 89 I-Go and then edited it a bit
which is a powerful weapon
compared to the guns
oman is better imo, makes it easier to form arabia by doing a civil war and the other side spawns on the hormuz state,
you start as a puppet tho
also i wanted to play saudi arabia
honestly yemen kinda clears
thats why i literally said to civil war
you just get so mucb core pop and gokd terrain
but i wanna be non aligned
i dont wanna have some generic leader
civil war also gives 1+ free factories if you time your focuses correctly, its basically cheating
i mean play as saudi and build up oil refineries and then free trade is interesting
i dont think you understand the starting situation of saudi arabia
yeah i just let the other side develop in that tiny state before launching the invasion and then saudi arabia is easy you just spam cav and naval invade each coast tile
i know
🙏🙏🙏
til 48 you can do that
They didn’t have infrastructure to extract the oil in the 1930’s
yeah
the hard part is yemen but i just let them take saudi arabia while i naval invade the capital
but you can build them
oh i got tech
so they have an easy to take desert tile
and theyll try to push you out of it with most/all of their units
shoot \
and if you let them the capital is usually open or easy to take
camelry
#hoi4-general or #off-topic might be better suited for this conversation, though
Camels in Rome total war would reduce enemy Calvary unit morale
best 1938 tank desgin and template for germany?
It’s based on an account that Persian camels scared their enemy Calvary in a war under Cyrus the great as the Rome total war time frame ends in 476
sryyy
familiar sounding year
Fall of the Western Roman Empire
When Odacer deposed Romulus Augustulus
would the Guangxi get a branch surrounding Li Zongren ?
Li Zongren was especially important during the Second Chinese civil war
when he became the de facto leader of the KMT in the mainland as Chiang fled for Formosa (now Taiwan)
honestly they dont need it
they still scare them nowadays. horses get the "uncanny valley" feeling from camels since they are similar but different
they are cryptids essentially to em
IMO the easiest country to unite China as is Li Zongren’s
You have tons of steel and decent industry, with minimal debuffs and foreign powers leave you alone moreso than others
I just wish there were Emperor portrait versions of the warlords
they couldnt even give enough shits about philippine portraits
sucks how you have to rely on the US or Japan just to get more than two generals
and one of the generals werent even in the army til 42
nice.
that is odd
really sucks there aren't more filipino generals on start
@pseudo wing when will Warships of the pacific release?
Maybe in ~2 weeks?
Btw many thx guys. This update is huge news for mods like Additional ship models.
No release date has been announced yet
Thx
what this dlc will be about
It's new unit models for ships
only ts?
😭😭💔💔💔
i trought that was a usa rework
It's not a big DLC just a little unit model thing
Next DLCs with actual country content will be Thunder at our Gates and Peace for our Time
TAOG will be Australia, Siam, and Dutch East Indies while PFOT will be just for Czechoslovakia but it's being made by a team of modders
no one likes that country
well its also like
in MtG they made some modern day references with the US content
and now theyll have to rework it probably with less/none of those
and it just wasnt rlly on the priority list before
afaik
Was it really references or has the US just not changed that much?
one min
yes but it had a important participation on the japanese front
thats why theyre updating australia
i could swear there was something
lowkey forgot
They did some other things
The US general’s level’s changed after NCNS
Yes, that's partly related to them going to the Philippines
I couldn’t either ngl 😭
once you played the philippines like once or twice you've basically played all the paths
Yeah kinda gave me Switzerland vibes, just wasn’t a fan.
it's not very replayable personally
I don’t love island nations in general though
only really enjoyed the hispanic empire path but even then it took forever to get rid of the ridiculous debuffs the philippines has
could be worse
anything can be fun if enough care is put into it
i wouldn't say it's terrible just not a country i personally go "i want to play them again!"
the philippines will probably become more fun with the next dlc lowkey
since youll have other regional content
I think they did a decent job with trying to make the Phillipines fun. Like commie pirates, Spanish empire, McArthur Fascism, and like the normal paths
i feel they should've held off on the philippines
put more attention to china or somewhere else
and have the philippines release with ToaG
but i feel you may be right
Ngl idk how they would’ve made the Phillipines better
right now the whole region feels bland aside from the philippines
like if youre someone not used to the pacific content drought youll hate it
but thats just how it is
kind of the same issue i have with nationalist china
Think the region lacks content, not the country
the debuffs are so absurd and it takes so painfully long to get rid of
^^^
perfectly fair
oh yeah it sucks but if you ignore the army its fine
just do navy
i myself will probably have an opinion shift once ToaG releases
Would be like if the gave Cuba a focus tree but the rest of the Caribbean and Central America stays the same
literally what mexico is
but like
Exactly why I prefer warlords 😂
the entirety of the americas are kind of bland honestly
the pacific count be rlly interesting if there were nations with content/the ocean mattered (huge area of earth)
aside from ToA nations i guess
it just doesnt rn
Specifically with Phillipines though, Japan majority of the time will invade you, or the US.
