i also had issue and reinstalling paradox solved it . sure it might take 30 mins to reinstall everything
but it solves the issue
goto documents and paradox folder
delete the folder (before that u should copy mod folder and put it somewhere safe
delete game off steam
then reinstall the game and open it (it sets up paradox for u)
put the mods back in the folder and its done

First find out if the mod is anywhere else
This used to be the only place to get mods for Paradox Games https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/hearts-of-iron-iv-user-mods.950/ (for VIC2 & prior this is still the best/only place to get them)
Then search ModDB & Nexus, A simple google search may help
If you look on the Steam Workshop page for the mod you may find the Git or Dropbox they use for development.

Unfortunately there are some mods that are exclusive to the Steam Workshop (usually due to laziness)
You may still be able to use this method to install Packages from Valve You need the Steam Application Installed

1: Open the Run Command with Win+R (Windows), CMD+Space (Mac/IOS), or Alt+F2 (Linux/Solaris)
2: type steam://install/394360
3: find the ID for the Workshop mod usually this will be within it's URL
4: Copy only the ID Number and add it to what You've Typed steam://install/394360/2791104354 should be Scuffed 56'
5: Make the path for the workshop content, if you've installed steam the defualt way you need to structure it this way "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\394360" You could either use mkdir in CMD or just right click> New Folder for each folder, just make sure you don't make a typo you'll only need to do this once for each game and it might do it automatically
6: hit ok on the Run prompt and hope it works
7: go to the path you've made and hopefully the mod has been downloaded there, copy and paste the mod to your HOI IV Manual Mod Folder which should live in "<User>...\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\mod"

You can also do this on a normal browser but I'm not entirely sure how to do that... many games don't allow this way anymore because people abused it for Rule 14 but this remains the only way to get games like Scott Cawthan's FNAF World (Which is steam://install/427920 btw)

If that doesn't work we can do it the hard way

1: Go to Valve's site and get the developer SteamCMD
2: Open SteamCMD & login you may be able to just type login anonymous
3: grab Workshop link and plug the ID into this command for Steam CMD workshop_download_item {AppID} {WorkshopID} (For Scuffed 56' it'd be workshop_download_item 394360 2791104354)
4: if you've set up the SteamCMD correctly you may not need to do anything else but you probably need to do Step 7 of the last Guide.

You will have to repeat this each time a mod updates :<
Auto-updates are exclusive to Steam workshop & maybe Nexus

If you don't care about achievements & don't have ironman mode on you could always use the console (accessed by hitting the ~ key) & type annex ITA
Alternitevly you can use OP ITA and then give them a Victory Point they core Like Rome...

If you don't want to/ can't cheat let the AI Navel invade Italy to "Free" them them crush then again.

Im having a similar problem to Lone Beetle. I tried to delete the paradox folder, uninstall the game on steam, and then reinstall with the mods, but my game is still crashing. I really only care about the R to 56 mod, and nothing else. Any other ways to fix this issue?

do u have any other mods enabled? also what version are u using. road to 56 is currently the latest version. u should try to disable the mod and try again if it doesnt crash then that means rod to 56 is causing u to crash

also try to delete the broken mods. i had a issue where my launcher wouldnt open cuz of some broken mods. broken mods are mods that arnt being updated anymore or paradox says it cant detect them on your disc

so i loaded my save file and my file corrupted - national focus, gone. i'm now non aligned but i'm also german republic (???). the map saved but everything else is just gone
update: every country is democratic apparently and when i unpause it the game crashes.
(you legit can't do anything, no national focus, no army, it's basically the modern world)

I played an ironman Czechoslovakia game (now Austro-Hungarian Empire) on the latest patch with all major DLC. Last night, I got off after exiting the game normally, and a few hours later tried to load the game back up, and it showed that it was from another version of the game - it also shows the date as 1 Jan 1 and difficulty as Civilian, as in the screenshot, and I can't load. I tried to just hit resume from the launcher, and it loaded up the same game, but instead had me as the capitulated German Republic...has anyone seen anything like this?

Well the thing is that since about 2 weeks the game constantly crashes in the starting loading screen, when I try to play the game with mods. I have tried reinstalling and even entered debug mode just to find out that certain audio and graphic files are missing, still only when started with mods.
