you can try disabling other mods that you have enabled because they could cause an crash if an mod is older than others and something that the older mod uses has been updated or deleted

At the end the simplest solution was the best one.
I tried using a previous save from that game and it worked. tho i still don't know the cause of that save bricking

I play HOI4 from a 2020 MacBook Air (M1). I've noticed that the game is compiled for x86_64. Does anyone know if paradox is going to release an arm64 version? Even if there are not many players that plays from macOS it would be life changing, especially for late game and heavy mods when it starts lagging and freezing.

Why does my Paradox Launcher take forever to load HOI4 all of a sudden? It used to happen instantaneously when I press play

So I set up Linux Mint about a week ago and today I decided to play HOI4 for the first time since I installed Mint. So I set it up but the load times are incredibly slow compared to Windows, it takes like 10 minutes to load into the game. I've tried different proton versions, different Launch configs, I've even changed my graphics driver. But nothing has helped the issue, please help!

3 - you right click on hoi, select properties
4 - on the menu that appears (see screenshot above) you select the 3rd menu from the top
5 - you click on the 4th button from the top that is in that sub-menu
6 - you wait and see what it says

I just recently deleted onedrive from my device, and the paradox files where stored in users/[username]/onedrive/documents, I moved them to users/[username]/documents, how do I tell the launcher where the paradox files now are?

I am going to assume it works the same for every game using the paradox launcher.

That is how I usually do it, issue is I moved the paradox files out of my OneDrive. Causing a bunch of issues. And as a result it ended in me downloading the launcher.

Graphic Bug. Happens from time to time. Usually its a 3D model on the map like a Unit display. If you have mods on with new models that could be it. Otherwise its a bugged model from the game itself. Not much you can do bout it. Scrolling out usually helps a bit.

I wanted to finish a let's play I started before the dlc came out, so I think I need to play on the previous version of hoi4 which is version 1.16.10 if I am not mistaken
But, when I check the versions available on steam, the last available version is 1.16.9
Is it normal?

Edit: oups, the versions are just ordered by alphabetical order and not numerical: version 1.16.10 was just hidden between 1.16.1 and 1.16.2

if you're running another applicatino at the same time or downloading anything on the same drive then it will also considerably increase the game load time for obvious reasons

Hoi4 is very CPU-intensive because of the number of calculations and AIs in the game. If you don't have a good CPU you'll be forced to play with massive lag or on very low speed by mid game

hard to say more if this is a performance issue or a game issue without knowing more about your hardware

its a laptop and its really bad like it cant really run anything i barely get 60fps in roblox and like 30 in tf2

a laptop doesn't say much but if you can't run TF2 with good perfs then it's probably the issue
you also need at bare minimum 8gb of RAM, if you don't have that it'll take ages to laod and will lag the hell out of the whole PC

remember o check with recommended PC specs on steam page (meeting the "required" specs means you'll be able to play 10-20% of the game basically before it becomes unplayable, don't trust the minimum requirements, always trust the recommended)

My game slows down by an incredible amount at random times, usually when I pause for more than 3 seconds. Restarting seems to work, but the same slowdown inevitably happens, each timer earlier than before. I think I just encountered a new bug with the new faction system. I played as the German Empire, and each time I create a new faction (Including Mitteleuropa Focus), it costs me 10% base stability, and each time I exit and reload my save, my base stability decreases by 5% until it reaches 0%. So, I test by disabling all mods (There are all music and visual mods, but anyway.) and now testing on UK, I dismantle Allies and create a new faction and yes, it still costs me 10% base stability, but each time I dismantle it, I magically gain 500K Free Man power.

1. Reinstalling (Not working)
2. Disable all mods (Not working)
3. Delete the entire Hoi4 Folder and verify the game (Not working)

Can anyone confirm with vanilla or any major content mods (RT56, KR, etc.) that when going on observe mode, selecting any country, then going to research, every research trees are visually stuck on an incomplete state and when trying to do research_on_icon_click and clicking any icons you're suddenly locked off the rest of the selected research's route?

Hi, I’m on Linux Mint (Ubuntu 22.04 base) and after the latest HOI4 update the game only launches in vanilla, even when mods are enabled in the Paradox launcher.

I used ChatGPT to help write this because my English isn’t very good, sorry.

• I click Play → the game always launches in vanilla

Okay so Idk how cracked is system of creating mapuche puppets, but it's sort of issue. All South American minors now join Axis once I declare war on them (because I invaded Venezuela and it joined Axis so other countries join it too). The problem is I can't reorganize them even after capitulating. The one and only country I was allowed to reorganize was Uruguay, opening its cores for the capitulated Uruguay opens diplomacy menu, it even disappeared from Axis.

This is the case I can document now because I had same thing in more logical game where all south american countries used to join Allies (because I didn't invade Venezuela first), and I was allowed to reorganize everything on south from Mexico including the Maya state, but Mexico, Usa and Canada weren't allowed even after I capitulated them.

Game version is 1.16.10 with all respective DLCs. I forgot if there some other place to report stuff like this like at PDX Plaza forum but this is quite disturbing

If it's supposed to work this way please explain me logic beyond it

Germany doesn't get any event or war goal for "Danzig oder Krieg"

Specs:

• Windows 11 Notebook
• Don't know the version number. It happend on the latest version on 30th Nov 2025
• Not an older save (created the game on the day)
• No DLCs
• One very small slef-written mod, that only changes historical division names of some countries (should not have an impact I guess but who am I?)

Description:
I played singleplayer as historical Germany (Rheinland -> Wehrmacht neu organisieren + Wirtschaftswachstum priorisieren) with ahistorical AI-focuses (No special rules, regular difficulty, Ironman mode).
While I did the focus "Danzig oder Krieg" the civil war broke out in Poland. When my focus was finished, Poland was still at civil war. I got no event and no war goal for either of the two Polands. Even when the civil war was finished. This was in 1938.
AI focuses I remember, that might be relevant:

• Hungary restored Austrian-Hungary and annexed Czechoslovakia (I got the Sudetenland through the focus). I was not at war with them.
• Britan went Communist
• France went historical (I think)
• I had conquered Lithuania. They had refused the Memelland.

loading my mod crashes in 1.17.3 specifically

context: I'm a dev for a total conversion mod, and just two days ago it opened fine in 1.17.2, but ever since 1.17.3 released, it crashes when loading countries (after pressing "play" on the world map, right before the loading sound plays)

so far I:

• verified it wasn't any recent commit in which I might've made an error
• tried with the -debug flag, also crashes at the exact same point
• made sure no mod other than the one I'm devving is being loaded
• verified game files
• uninstalled and reinstalled both the mod and hoi4
• looked at error.log, which at least at first glance doesn't give any insight as to what caused the crash
• tested on two different devices, same behaviour

Hello! I am experiencing CTD at the end of peace conference. This can be any peace conference, AI-only or involving player. This started happening after NCNS DLC and the problem is agnostic to mods being loaded or not. In the changelog from devs I can see that this issue was resolved, but unfortunately not for me it seems. After I've reverted to 1.16 the problem disappeared.

I am playing on macOS (Apple silicon). Basic troubleshooting like checking integrity of game files, clean reinstall and resolving peace conference manually.

I reinstalled the game and had the same issue. Does reinstalling get rid of saves because I need to make sure I deleted the saves but I don't know where to find them in my files to delete them manually if I haven't. I also don't know if that's even the issue but my Hoi4 didn't use to do this (It's been stuck on this screen for 30 minutes straight.) The Hoi4 crops out and even when it does load it never lets me click anything.

I've had couple of 'unexpected crashes' recently, and the game created & sent report about those. No idea why this occurs, I've got hundreds of hours with the game, and nothing like this has happened before. I've got most DLC, no mods or anything (well, I use the nato symbols & square unit pieces, but again, have used this for years without issues).

Maybe it's got something to do with the phase of the game, I've defeated UK and it's allies in 1940, and there's LOTS of stuff going on. My armies etc, are huge, could it be down to this?

On mouse Over over the green 920 in the screeshot it sayes in german that it would be the number of hostile ships in the area. I assume it should mean friendly, according to the frienly convoys above?
in german it would be then "Anzahl der befreundeten Schiffe in der Region" (similar to the Message avove with the convoys).
Currently the green 920 and the red 0 give the same message

Me and 1 other person is having a multiplayer desyncing problem, mods are expert ai and player lead peace conferences. We both tried restarting the game but it doesnt work, any ideas to fix?

This happens with mods and without mods. I have constant freezing on my hoi 4 I have a 2060 and an i7 100700f. I’ve been able to play the game in the past on 14.0 and 15.0 but the 17.0 version just does not work for me. Sometimes it will unfreeze itself it could be a couple seconds to minutes. Other times it will just stay frozen. What’s weird is there is no mouse movement but I can hear the sound in the background ( i thought i solved this before too)

HOI4 is only rly CPU heavy. 16 gigs is more than enough. Even 8 gigs should work fine. Especially with the current prices I wouldn't buy 32 gigs if you're only using it for HOI4

Delete documents/paradox interactive/hearts of iron iv (that is the user directory)

Save games are in that folder too so move them somewhere else temporarily if you want to keep them

The launcher and the game will create that folder again so no need to do that yourself

Will potentially also fix the issue with your mods

Although any mods you made yourself will also be in that folder so you'll have to move those
