Heyy, I need some help. I cant play in fullscreen or windowed. Only borderless. I've tried it with the launcher or ingame, but it just stays borderless. If I turn it on fullscreen it will minimize the game, if I click on my other monitor and windowed is the exact same as borderless.

you might need to use steam setting to launch it in windowed, when you right click the game in your library, then go to properties, in that window in the 'launch options' tab write –windowed

and the bug report was closed cuz "we're already aware of it" but obviously not!

problem, for anyone who can't tell: the 'use auto best' selection for the DIVISION TEMPLATE model choice, just doesn't work quite right for tank divisions - it'll just use the default tank model for that year, INSTEAD of using the actual tank design's model (as specified in the tank designer)

If you are having crashes or graphical issues after the release of 1.12 Avalanche, it is most likely due to DX11.

FYI @ancient orbit this is because macOS does not support DirectX, OpenGL is the only option so it can't be changed on the macOS launcher. No idea on my end, unfortunately, I don't think its your settings that refuse to allow the setting change, though it could very well be one of a million different things on either the game OR the graphics drivers settings.

It could also be tied to V-sync if you haven't tried toggling that

Things I had to do, but not sure which fixed it: make sure you list the whole Hoi folder in steamapps/common in your anti-virus exception list. Make sure your My Documents folder is a local my documents folder and not on OneDrive. Make sure you have the latest C++ distributables for both x86 and x64. Update graphics card drivers (doubt this matters). Launch steam as administrator.

If you aren't able to successfully uninstall the launcher when you try, make sure there isn't a Paradox Launcher process open - use task manager and end task.

I use avg and added exceptions to both the virus scan AND the ransom ware protection. The latter is not obvious to find.

1. Open file explorer
2. Go to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV
3. Move the mod, save games, Screenshots folders, as well as career profile files to somewhere else on the drive. (If these don’t exist or you don't care, ignore this step)
4. Delete everything in the Hearts of Iron IV folder.
5. Put all the moved files and folders back in.
6. Launch the game again.

Try deleting the launcher by deleting it in settings. Since its not considered "part" of the game it doesn't do much when you verify or reinstall the game. After you've deleted it try launching the game again and it should install the launcher again

first of all keep calm.
your HOI4 folder under documents is under OneDrive. The path is literally written in the screenshot you posted and it is normal, even if it is not the cloud Windows documents are automatically stored in a OneDrive folder ready to be mirrored on the cloud even if you don't have it active.
Now to fix your problem follow those steps:

Common Document Issues

One problem may be your One Drive. If you have One Drive enabled, your files may be going to the Cloud service, in which the game cannot read those documents. To make sure that your files aren't going to the cloud, either turn off One Drive itself, or turn off the Sync function for the folders that you do not wish to be uploaded to the Cloud.

Another issue is the game not being able to read its own documents that it has made, the simple fix for that is to give Hearts of Iron Admin Privileges.

A third issue can be your documents being found as a virus.(This is most common with Avast) To fix this, you can either whitelist the program and files associated with Hearts of Iron within your antivirus, or disable it entirely (or change antivirus entirely which is recommended by some)

Hey, quick question. Anyone know how i can fix the flashing bug? At some point randomly during the game a white stripe starts flashing across my screen at certain zoom levels

well i tried to clear user directory but that failed as well

Try clearing your cache instead

1. Open file explorer
2. Go to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV
3. Move the mod, save games, Screenshots folders, as well as career profile files to somewhere else on the drive. (If these don’t exist or you don't care, ignore this step)
4. Delete everything in the Hearts of Iron IV folder.
5. Put all the moved files and folders back in.
6. Launch the game again.

As long as your the in game timer does not lag
