John Frusciante or Jimi Hendrix
Steve vai/Nuno Bettencourt/Daron Malakian all the way
Mark Knopfler
Mark...iplier
Knopfler can sing, play the riffs, and solo at the same time. I heard Sultans of Swing so many times my whole life and saw the live performance and his playing skills are impressive 😁
why just why......
lucky!
I saw Gilmour at the end of last year, would love to see Knopfler too, but I doubt it will happen, oh well!

would you rather 2 used tampons or double it for the next person?
Anything but art school 😔
my favorite is brian haner jr (synyster gates) i know he’s not the best guitarist ever but his solos resonate with me the most

And the guitarist of Death, idk their name
im over art school. now i build ovens!
Eddie Van Halen!
Steve vai
alexi laiho
i think u meant randy roads as in ozzy
JOHN ANTHONY FRUSCIANTE, his songwriting kinda carries it though
Chuck Schuldiner?
If you’re talking about the other guitarist, Death had a rotating lineup of second guitarists
Hendrix or Eric Clapton
I think so
Whoever did guitar for the leprosy and spiritual healing albums
Leprosy had Chuck doing leads I’m pretty sure
But with Spiritual Healing, it was both Chuck and James Murphy
Oh yeah fs
Spiritual healing is so fire
It’s a good album yeah
I honestly think it’s their most lackluster album
Mateus Asato
eddie van halen, dave mustaine, kirk hammet and dimebag
Pete Townshend
eddie van halen or jimmy page
you can prolly tell who i like :)

Wes Borland
Icl he's soo underrated
Mine is 100% Gary Rossington and Allen Collins
Malcom Young, Gary Moore, Peter Green, Jeff Beck to name a few
I am a bass player which probs explains why there is rhythm guitar player in there
THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT 🙌🙌🙌
🙏🙏🙏
wes borland
Mike Einziger not the well known guitarist but still really good
Muhammad Suicmez
96969696

Son of hendrix 🎸🤘
Yall know kingfish?
John Frusciante
I saw a snippet of him live walking to somewhere else during a festival
how is he your favorite if you dont even know his name?
he in one of my favorite bands
His name is Marx I believe
what band is that?
I can’t just pick one, So here’s my list!
Dimebag Darrel, Zakk Wylde Yngwie Malmstein, Steve Vai
John petrucci, Ronni Le Tekrø, Steve Morse, Adam Jones the list goes on!
Steve Howe
Buzz Osborne or Randy Rhoads probably
Marcin Patrzalek and Tim Henson
alex lifeson
Slash
Hell yea
Or noel gallagher
Atleast iommi there but he should be first
id pick marty friedman for his japanese influence and his unique way of phrasing and arpeggios in his solos, during his time on megadeth or his solo career
dave musty anus
Eddie Van Halen
I credit Slash for sparking my love for guitar and I owe a lot to him, definitely one of my biggest inspirations
If not him, probably someone like synyster gates or Nuno bettencourt
Nigel Tufnel
Henry Lee of dragon force
Kiko Lourerio, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen, Dimebag Darrel, Marty Friedman, John Petrucci, Mateus Asato
my favorite guitarist is me
fr

Anything but playing the guitar bro
Hell yeah
phil tougas, muhammed suicmez
Adam Jones
Synyster gates
Tony Iommi
💀 Tony Iommi says tje Kurt Cobain look alike called Mustaine
Tony iommi is the reason everyone exists
He’s my mother?
Every guitarist plays what they play (and yes he is ur mother)
What about what came out before sabbath?
Like Hendrix
You said everyone
Ok fine, every metal guitarist?
Also one could certainly argue Hendrix did some pretty metal stuff. Furthermore I present, Jimbob page
Ok yeah u win
I jus like his guitar work
Now Thats based
He got the sickest power chord riffs
youd think he invented them or something
either John Petrucci or MAB
Good choice
Me
kirk hammett
before or after 1991
I agree
I think so
Without Hendrix there wouldnt be Rock beyond Chuck Berry
By FAR the most influence ever in Guitar was and will ALWAYS be Hendrix
If your favourite is the one that started it all then its Jimi
Probably even I’m somewhat influenced by Hendrix directly and indirectly
Everyone is somehow
Hendrix is like Music Jesus
you can say this about every guitarist predating other ones
thats like saying black sabbath is the best metal band cus you wouldnt have other metal bands without them, which people do say
being the first to do something doesnt automatically make you the best to do it
infact in most cases the bands after the pioneers are better because theyre able to further refine and improve upon the genre
totally ok to acknowledge the infleunce of these players but being influential doesnt make you better then the people you influenced
otherwise charlie christian is the best guitarist in the world
In my opinion black sabbath is the best metal band because I don’t like metal
I solidly doubt that
I think that Iommi had bigger influence
At least on metal guitar
Hendrix created modern day funk
Eddie Van HAlen for me
Dude how in gods name
Dude created metal lmao
Without him there would be no 80s
Or basicly any heavier riffs based songs
Yngwie
Dimebag
Slash, Nuno Bettencourt and Synyster Gates for me
very different artists but steve vai and bradley nowell
One of the best
Jerry Garcia
i mean
if not him someone else would have done it
metal seems like a fairly intuitive progression from rock
Hell yeah
(I say in conplete sadness as I learn far beyond the sun for past month)
Mick Mars
Stützer brothers from artillery
Billie Joe Armstrong
paul gilbert, bruce bouillet, spiro dussias, eddie van halen, marty friedman, jason becker, glenn tipton (CHAT DO I KNOW BALL?)
I agree but I personally think Nirvana (especially Kurt Cobain) influenced more teenagers to start playing guitar nowadays. A different pov, since I am talking about nowadays (maybe for the past 15 years, dunno) still respectfully Hendrix is gyatdamn goated overall!
Very very VERY good take
Is this sarcastic or-
NOT AT ALL/SRS
Oh ty then sir
Ragebait
Holy that Paul Guilbert is so on spot
Tony iommi
too hard
Mike mcready
Lars ulrich
Lil wayne
yngiwe
paul gilbert is the goat,,,,,,,,
agree
john mawyer, jimmy page ,paul gibert, slash, buckethead and eric clapton
hendrix?
oh yes of course haha
and some others i "admire" would be
george harrison
prince
and slash
i mean all good but i like the blues that the three here do
and john mayers imrpovising 👍
king kong
I would have to go with either Jimmy Page or Kirk Hamett
john mawyer is a blues guitarist isnt he?
damn classic choice
💯
man he has pure aura, his solos hits diff
Mick Thomson or Jim Root
Kurt Cobain, Alex Turner, Or Hendrix
alex turner is ragebait
Hes not the best technically but made some good riffs
Jorgen Sandau and stützer brothers
Kurt broski 😭
Hes not very good technically but hes a good writer
He’s aight
And his sloppy precision playing technique is cool
Alexi Laiho
sloppy precision is word vomit
i can respect kurt even tho i prefer technique playing. kurt encouraged musicians to express themselves regardless of their technical ability, and thats awesome
Exactly
bb king, stevie vai, joe satriani, mark knopfler, dimebag, stevie ray vaughn, EVH GARY MOORE
steve vai, john mayer, bradley nowell, evh, jimi hendrix, (my namesake) joe sat, kerry king, tim henson, ichika nito, slash, bernth, nili brosh, greg howe, michael angelo batio, johnny hiland, tom delonge, fredrick thordendal, jim root, mick thomson, kurt cobain, john frusciante, and i could go on.
forgot dimebag
you'd enjoy jason becker and paul gilbert's music then
paul gilbert's stuff on racer x is amazing
glenn tipton from judas priest is also really good
i know of jason becker and paul gilbert but have never rely listenened to them
can i show you paul gilbert's best guitar solo?
its a good mix of feel and shreds
sure

yep paul gilbert was amazing during the racer x days
mr big is okay but i dont like em as much as racer x
Steve Vai, Mark Okubo, Guthrie Govan, John Mayer, Pat Metheny, Mk Gee
Tū Edmonds or Karan Katiyar
forgot gary moore
Page? Metal was creating itself anyway Sabbath was simply one of the front runners. Along with Whatever rhat guy that did the ghoul makeup was and iron butterfly not to mention Hendrix, Taste/Rory Gallagher or led zeppelin.
But let’s be real real founders of metal are Gustav Holst and Paganini
Michael Angelo Batio.Still waiting for my keys to the Lamborghini tho
lmao.Good one.
the term was coined around Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love anyway
rainforest, pillars of steel and no boundaries part one and two are bangers
mark holcomb
insert immigrant song
That came after though
Yeah
But if they thought whole lotta love was heavy, insert 1970
Youll get them one day
That shred part from NB have taken me months to learn
Dmitry from Shokran is crazy underrated
George Lynch and Jake E Lee
Jesse Cash from ERRA, 1000%
Rip alexi laiho the goat
For real my current fav guitarist
sad that he chose his own death
ive got a few:
ben bruce (asking alexandria)
frank iero (my chemical romance)
ben kasica (skillet)
seth morrison (skillet)
johnny franck (attack attack!)
Frank isnt even lead wild
But he has cool harmonies parts I have to agree but Ray exceeds him in talent by miles
yeah but i love his parts especially in songs like Ghost of You, Sleep and Helena
I'm not putting the GOAT labels on anybody, but Alexei was great
Eh
Kurdt Cobain >=]
dean lamb
bros mental
paul gilbert
nah
Adam Christianson from Architects.
El Hefe from NOFX
Ariel Posen
????!?!?
W
Either eddie van halen or Steve vai
you’d like paul gilbert. want me to recommend a song?
Nah no need lol
Yngwie
Randy the 🐐
Ryan knight
James
Too tough to call. Everyone's better at something. Martin Miller's underrated though. Same for Neal Schon
Alright, when are we throwing hands?
its a joke
actually no, fuck that, lil wayne is peak
lil wayne is on par with guthrie govan in terms of technique
James Hetfield. there's something special about his downstroke chugging. Metallica's rhythm sections are my favorite guitar parts in the entirety of music.
i can never get enough of that band. wish they had better solos on some songs tho
jeff beck
Post Malone
Randy Rhoads, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jerry Cantrell
i also wanna add:
Ben Burley (Breaking Benjamin)
Neil Westfall (A Day To Remember)
Awsten Knight (Waterparks)
Zacky Vengeance (Avenged Sevenfold)
right now, joe duplantier, gojira.
Tetsuo Sakurai is so goated
saul hudson
Tom morello
Big inspiration for me
Not only due to his music but his political activism
i dont like his lead playing but he inspired some awesome guitarists
he inspired Matt frickin Bellamy of Muse
thats a case of a literal punk rocker inspiring a classical trained musician
I’m not experienced enough to talk about his actual skill
But his performance is like
Dayum
you dont need too much skill to write great solos. its all about choosing the right notes and phrasing em right
tho i dont rlly like morello's solos
also tom morello and RATM are kind of questionable when it comes to their politics but i dont know enough abt their actions to truly form an opinion
anyways
lets just talk abt the music
his son is pretty awesome
im glad his solos wont consist of rubbing his hand against the strings of his guitar{
indeed
My favorite is Eddie Van Halen, he inspired me to pick up the guitar as a teenager and changed my life for the better. My other favorites are Nile Rodgers, Tom Verlaine, Jeff Beck, and Tom Scholz.
Freddie king is up there
Me
Corey Feldman
Ace frehley
Who?
Me
undeed?
typo haha
late to the discussion but Syu from Galneryus is massively underrated
Not a guitarist but ronnie james dio
there is literally 1 single requirement for your answer and you still managed to not do that
"what's your favorite food?"
"not a food but I like the color purple"
Yap
Richie Faulkner
glenn gotta be in ur top 3 right?
He’s #2
Eddi Pickard
Danny Carey
Zacky Vengeance, Synyster Gates
good man!
one of my favorite guitar duos of all time
Kirk Hammett and I think Kurt Cobain or Angus Young
Gary Moore
Made every note feel alive, my favourite and in my opinion the greatest guitarist, not because he shreds fast, but because his guitar has emotion.
Fred Durst
Marty Friedman and Synster Gates
i need to listen to marty’s newer music. i heard one of the newer songs and he sounds even better than his days in cacophony
yes he has improved a lot
hard to believe right
Inferno and Wall of Sound were really good
on scenes and introduction he dabbled in classical, and true obsessions into more mainstream pop rock
Dimebag darrel for shure
John Petrucci, Marty Friedman, James Hetfield, David Gilmour, Chuck Schuldiner, Steve Vai, Alex Lifeson, Randy Rhoads, EVH, Michael Romeo, Robert Fripp, Jeff Loomis, Yngwie, Steve Hackett, Muhammed Suicmez, Alexi Laiho, Synyster Gates, Steve Lukather, Neal Schon, Allan Holdsworth
man we have kinda similar tastes. i REALLY think you'd like brandon ellis (the black dahlia murder), and paul gilbert and bruce bouillet (both from Racer X)
I like Paul Gilbert and Brandon Ellis, but I didnt want my list to be even bigger than it already was
dont sleep on bruce tho, that mf was just as fast as paul in the 80s
I just don’t really know who he is, was he in the band when Paul was
bruce bouillet was the other lead guitarist of Racer X, the band that paul was in during the mid 80s. bruce wrote some great solos too
here is one of his presumed improvised guitar solos: https://youtu.be/eNvu76KkKx4?si=pwkQ6SK-7ld6WHsx
“The Shark Show” Bruce Bouillet live guitar solo, 3-19-1988. The Country Club. Reseda, CA. such a clean guitar player
Thanks for the rec! I can’t believe i never heard about him before
yeah hes genuinely amazing. it sucks that he got a hand injury which slowed him down, but hes still a very clean player these days. here is a video of him playing some Racer X songs in a medley, if youre interested in how good he still sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd_tOviz8jw
Bruce demoing his new Guilford signature model.
Steve Gaines
Thomas Raggi, Matt Bellamy, Angus Young, Django Reinhardt, Jimmy Hendrix, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Gregorio, Marcin Patrzalek, Tim Henson
MATT BELLAMY MENTIONED RAHHHH
you're a fan ?
black holes and revelations is my favorite album OAT
me it's absolution
absolution is a second place contender tbh
then showbiz is third
i felt like OoS was kinda overrated but its got some catchy songs
like new born
citizen erased and plug in baby as well
plug in baby is a cool song
cool distorted bassline
yeah
it uses a vocal climax instead of a guitar solo
rlly good vocal talent showcased there
also it starts on a really really dissonant note in the intro riff
do you know there is a Muse discord serv ?
official?
matt ?
november rain
Between david gilmour and Steve Vai
dont damn me
dont cry
garden of eden
rocket queen?!
not on uyi
bad apples (sorry)
A lot of Dimes here?
what do you think?
8/10 people here play metal and dime is probably in the top 10 most influential metal guitarist of all time
especially since everyone here is like 13

i feel like unc whenever i mention my fav guitarists cuz theyre mostly from the 80s
minus brandon ellis
such as?
hell yeah!
paul gilbert, bruce bouillet, jason becker, marty friedman, glenn tipton
all were prominent during the 80s and 90s
I cant really talk tho my favorite guitarists are super popular
bro how tf do i keep forgetting to include EVH
him too
kurt cobain
really?
yeah EVH was drunk af one time and made a racial remark towards pat smear, then kurt cobain did a mock impression of eddie van halen
probably was projection cuz eddie is 1/4th indonesian, and apparently mixed race ppl arent welcomed in his european country of origin
man i forgot which european evh was
i forgor
Dutch iirc
sounds abt right
idk why i said "was drunk af one time" bruh that mf was drunk af ALL THE TIME
lol
you aint the first
coma
breakdown
live and let die
Let's Honour him
Today is 9 years since one of fathers of Rock n Roll - Chuck Berry- has passed away
i remember learning johnny b goode intro on a classical guitar, i had to fucking do a half step instead of a full step bend cuz nylon strings r silly
rest in peace Mr Chuck you are an inspiration to so many guitarists and songwriters
🤘🎸
❤️
My favourites are dime bag, Jimmy page, kirk H, Marty Friedman, cory wong
no jason becker?
perfect crime
no satch no vai?
get in the ring
im not a fan of either tbh
im more of a paul gilbert, bruce bouillet, jason becker, marty friedman, EVH, glenn tipton and brandon ellis fan
DG is GOAT-ed

Synyster Gates
Kurt cobain
😭
ive never heard of this guitarist’s name before
wdym?
its a joke
oh
nuh uh
Alex Lifeson, sheer skill how he’s able to pull off both rhythm and lead, and crazy solos. Underrated guitarist
his riffs are awesome
hes not my favorite lead guitarist but way better than kirk hammet
But also think about in comparison too. He’s one man pulling two roles. Playing better live then in studio recording sometimes. Vs Kirk hammet yeah I agree he’s definitely legendary as a lead, but he’s got James as the rythym punchy stuff. I’m In between beginner and intermediate guitarist maybe there’s things i definitely don’t know lmao
Rush and Metallica are easily my top favorite bands. I view them both highly
Generational hate on Metallica 😭
maybe one day i’ll become a wholesome 45 year old dad and have less over exaggerated standards for music, but for now, this is how i’ll act
Guthrie Govan, John Mayer. I like metal and blues..
Dimebag by far my most favourite. A friend got me into metal through pantera and it has HEAVILY influenced me and my guitar playing. He will be forever my idol, my lion, my savior. That was 5-6 years ago. Also his style is just truly unique and sadly we will never see someone like him again
Brian McLaughlin
It’s gotta be either John Petrucci, Robert Fripp, or Eddie Hazel
Robby Krieger
Michael David Rosenberg (Passenger)
Keith Richards
aproved
Albert Hammond Jr
dimebag and jeff waters
thomas erak
rolling stones fore ever !
Awesome!
srv, mick ronson or poh hock(or anyone from like black crown initiate/native construct)
