also for some reason updating the wrapper doesnt change the kegworks config screen even though dxmt is added
you need to create a new wrapper and copy the kegworks config from there into the old wrapper
You do NOT use any of the boxes on the front screen for PoB. There are instructions on the wiki on how to set PoB up. Also do not use msync or esync for PoB
PoB2 is a little different but is also explained on the wiki.
You don’t have to create a new wrapper to get the DXMT check box. After you update the master wrapper in /Application you copy the KegworksConfig file to the existing POE2 wrapper (after you have updated its wrapper and engine). That will get the new DXMT setting, but as mentioned in the PSA it isn’t needed for POE2.
PoB-PoE1 may go the same route once the team adopts more rendering stuff later. Same engine, after all.
Let me know when that happens and I'll update the wiki so everything is consistent

But unlike Apples D3DMetal it’s completely open source.
It currently only supports DirectX 11, it may be expanded later but for now it’s just DirectX 11 following a similar development path as DXVK did originally
Kegworks wrapper has been update to 3.1.4 for anyone interested in upgrading. It has been updated to include DXMT 0.41. POE/POE2 does not like DXMT but other games you use Kegworks for may notice some improvements in performance/FPS

Hey hey - I was playing POE 2 until a couple patches ago on kegworks when it just stopped launching. It is a low time so I just moved on - but am trying to get it working again. When I open it it opens the patch screen, that quickly goes away but the game never launches. There's no error. Anyone experience this?

yeah for some reason the updated wrapper doesnt include wineskin/kegworks config
you can copy the kegworks config file from the master wrapper or create a new wrapper and copy it from there

POE2 starts but closes right after
Hello, new install attempt of poe2 using kegworks following the wiki guide: Game tries to launch but never gets past a black screen showing only poe cursor, no apparent error. Anything I should try?
(one thing I noticed is that starting the game doesn't appear to populate the production config ini that I had to put the dx12 setting into manually)
Post a screenshot of your configuration showing the wrapper and engine version as well as the other settings such as D3D and msync

Those settings are good. If the config_ini isn’t populated the first time the game will not run but will fully populate the file. Starting a second time should get it running. If it is still a black screen check the config file again and make sure the renderer is set properly to DitectX12. Sometimes it will default to something else.
Also - if POE2 servers are having issues or are slow it might cause this. In that case you’ll just have to work for them or try another gateway
so no matter how many times I start poe2, it doesn't populate the file at all before it just closes after being stuck on black screen for a while

Where is your config_ini file. It looks like it is not reading the correct one.
Also post your config_ini file now that you have run the game again.

Has anyone had any issues with the latest patch release (0.1.1g I think) while on Sonoma ?
PSA - Kegworks has released a new wrapper v3.1.5. For users already running Kegworks it isn't required to update. If you do decide to update, make sure you update the master wrapper first. Also update both the wrapper and engine versions to the latest. If you are still running the Wineskin version - you should probably update at some stage but if everything is still working there isn't a burning need to do so. IF you are still running the old version you will need to perform an extra step in the update process, which is to copy the KegworksConfg.app from /users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Kegworks/Wrapper/Wineskin.app/Contents/ to any Kegs you upgrade from the old Wineskin app. This should not be necessary for anyone who has already upgraded to Kegworks or is creating a completely new Keg. If anyone has any questions you should join the Kegworks discord channel and post there.

The limits of the camera are the same across all legitimate players. Wider monitors/windows can see more to the sides as the vertical distance is locked.
Make sure you're not accidentally zoomed in (with scroll wheel or Page Up/Down).
(if you like me find that you sometimes accidentally zoom in with the mouse wheel, there's an option for Mousewheel Zoom in Interface to disable it)
What zao said. Streamers don’t have any advantages. You can run in Windowed or Full screen mode if you aren’t already but apart from that it only “seems like” they have more real estate than you do.
GGG did in fact drop support for ultra wide monitors quite some time ago because you could see more that way (zao will correct me). There was quite the outcry from ultra wide monitor owners but it was totally the right call by GGG. It evened the playing field.
The horizontal restriction had a technical component, the distances you could see interfered heavily with the engine logic.

See the first pinned message about what WINE based apps will run POE2. There are 2 and Whisky isn’t one of them.
Whisky is still useable, just not for POE or POE2. GGG released an update that broke it, along with portingkit and GPTK. You can still use Whisky for other games.
Steam is also broken as well on Whisky because of a Steam update. Technically you can implement a work around but those have their own issues.
Honestly - I would just move to using Kegworks (free) or Crossover(need a license).
Both have discord channels. Only Kegworks and Crossover work for both GGG games and do not have the same issues with Steam as Whisky.
You can move any bottles you have in Whisky to one of them with minimal reconfiguration.

Update your engine. It's a little bit behind. Latest is 24.0.7. Then re-run the game and see if that fixes things

You will likely need to update the master Kegworks wrapper first, otherwise the latest engine will not be available for the POE2 Keg

parallels works so awfully for me
you do it just to start it up the first time
takes ages and is super slow but kegworks worked perfectly after the first successful launch in parallels

I think back when I first tried Windows PoE2 on macOS, I made a config that just had the video section with the key for API selection.
I had the thing where the config either was empty or missing.
Been a while now so memory is vague.
I’ll make a note about it. Can’t really provide a generic file since there is no place to store it on wiki or elsewhere. I guess I can link to Snow’s here though 🤔

Yes that would have been an issue. Now we have the template we can refer others to it if needed. Academically I’m curious why this has happened to 3 people now. Something changed (obviously) to something somewhere.

For me, I never had PoE2 installed until yesterday. Mine was a fresh install from the ground up, so I never had the config file before. Seems like when Snow had to switch engines, it was similar to a fresh install, and dmitry seemed to have the issue from afresh install as well
Yes. I'm curious to now if everyone is on Sonoma ? I'm on Sequioa, so it may be a Sonoma thing, though I never encountered this when I was on Sonoma.

Could be. The patch before last broke 2 WINE based apps so now only Crossover and Kegworks can run POE2. Kegworks has had a few wrapper updates but the engine (24.0.7) has been in place for a while 🤔 At least we have a solution 👍

I'd recommend setting that up for new players instead of making them edit the file
Target it for new users, existing players should be the ones who edit the config file to skip things

Remind me when the email address and gateway information is populated in the file ? If it is after login, then a generic file should be fine. If it is before then a generic file would still need to be edited by a new user.
The renderer_type could be set to DirectX12 regardless, though this would break if someone is on an Intel instead of a Silicon system, so it might be better to leave that for all users to edit, as per the existing wiki 🤔
also side question from me: is there some sort of trick or something to get game mode working for kegworks poe2? I do think I would prefer the higher bluetooth polling rate for controllers.

No it won’t because a lot of people won’t/don’t read any instructions. They just magically think it should all work. Make two and throw them in separate folders clearly labelled - Silicon and Intel.

There was one user but I don't recall their name. They may not even be active anymore. As Dmitry points out, maybe Intel systems do not have the same issue but we won't really know till someone pops in and reports the same issue. It is still a good idea to cover both bases.

I will add a small section to the wiki for troubleshooting. The 3 main issue players have when trying to setup POE/POE2 are usually because they've missed a step in the guides, they forgot to edit the config_ini file or this new issue that has popped up. I don't want to make the section too long. There is already a lot of text on that page which some find intimidating when they first see it (though surely not as much as the passive tree 🙂 )
Do you have a Steam account that you can use for POE or POE2 on Parallels ? I want to test a Launch parameter on the Steam page for the game. It is supposed to help stabilise FPS in some games, maybe even improve it. I'm wondering if it would improve the awful performance in Parallels at all.
I'm afraid I don't have the bandwidth to test that before tomorrow so perhaps more longer term future, but no time soon
No rush. It's more a curiosity. I might be able to test it myself but I don't have POE2 on Steam, though I could probably do the same test via POE 🤔

I don't use it myself but others might I do remember one person, either here or on Kegworks saying to try opening Chess (yes the in-built one) to activate Game mode and then minimising it. Not sure that would work. I assume Game mode is per game, but if all it takes is to have Game mode activated then that might be worth a try. You should also hop on to the Kegworks discord and ask there.

You can trigger game mode from the command line. Take a look at this Reddit post. It’s over 6 months old but would still be valid. No-one knows how Apple determines what a game is to apply game mode. For all we know it could just be a wrapper for the Unix ‘nice’ command. If that were true you would just give the POE2 process a value of -20 with the ‘nice’ command.

Normal patching process is:
- wait for normal patch around three hours before launch.
- patch.
Torrent preload patching process is:
- pre-download GGPK from torrent (might be zipped).
- wait until normal patching around three hours before launch.
- when patch is live, swap out your GGPK from your kegged installation of PoE2 with the pre-downloaded one.
- patch as normal.
will it auto download like it always does when there is a patch? and all we have to do is change tmp to exe and business as usual?
The big trap there is that you should not replace the file before the patch is live; if you try to patch with it too early, it'll "unpatch" the pack and destroy anything new in it 😄

Somewhere inside your bundle contents there'll be a drive_c which has the game under whatever Windows-like path you first installed it in.

The idea about the the pre-download is that one gets two choices:
a) do nothing and when patching goes live, download ~31 gigs in ~3h;
b) download ~103 gigs from torrent now in ~14h and then when patching goes live, download way less to patch the last few bits in the remaining ~3h.

There is no need to use Kegworks. APT and Exiled are both Mac native. For PoB and POB2 you would make them in their own wrappers.

As FunkyFeline mentioned, there is a wiki that outlines how to run the games. Note - you only have 2 options to play POE2. Crossover (which you need to buy) or Kegworks (which is free).

I'm downloading the patch now since I have a pretty decent async internet connection. It says the patch is 40GB (40.04). I saw last night someone said it was over 100GB ?
The patch without any pre-downloading is 40 gigs, advertised on the website is around 31 gigs.
The small fixup patch if you predownloaded 103 gigs of torrent is 350 megs.
I don't understand how something can be 103 gigs in a torrent if it's actually only a maximum of 40GB but I don't really need to know. Update is done. It took about 15-20 minutes but I can understand those with a slow internet connection would go the torrent route

Anyone having issues with the game not loading at all? I just dl the patch and updated fine but now it wont load at all, the first window appears as if it's going to update but it just closes on it's own

You should also click “Update Wrapper” or you’ll have a rather outdated wrapper that can cause problems

You don’t delete engines (you can be usually you just leave them as is). Did you delete the whole bottle and start over ? Make sure the wrapper is the latest as well 3.1.5 should be it (3.1.6 is coming)
renderer_type is the setting in the production_Config.ini file. You set that before you start the game after setup.
If you follow the wiki it should be all good 👍🤞
I just hope I deleted the right stuff. What I got rid of was the Kegworks folder in my userdrive (which included the POE2 wrapper and nothing else). That's it, so if I needed to get rid of hidden folders in my library I might be in trouble, but I'm only about 50Gb into the 90Gb downlaod so I'll find out later tonight

There are no hidden files with Kegworks. Bottles are self contained. They all live in
/Users/<username>/Applications/Kegworks
If you called your keg POE2 in that folder for the game, you would just delete it. That’s it
The master wrapper lives in /Applications. That is where you update the wrapper version and engine for when you create a new bottle. After that you change wrapper and engine version in the KegworksConfig menu (which I assume you already have been to before)
There have been reports by a few users, who like you, either followed the wiki or updated wrapper and engine but the game still failed to start. If the games fails to start after you have done everything - check the ini file has the correct renderer set.
If it does then check the Client.txt file. If it has a whole bunch of VK_ entries it is likely the game is not reading the ini file
To “fix” this use the template file Snow has posted for the config_ini file. Make sure that file has the correct renderer setting. Then start the game. It should work. Hopefully you do not need to go this far in getting things up and running.
anyone run into an issue of repeated inputs with playing POE2 with CrossOver? Anykey entered will repeated ingame, but outside of the game it's all normal.

Take a look on the wiki regarding recommended specs to play the games. The more CPU and RAM the better. Even with 16GB memory I don’t think the MB Air is going to cut it. You’d be lucky to get 40FPS and that would be in town. That’s just my opinion of course but the Air is not really built for CPU/GPU intensive games. Plus it would double as a fry pan since the Air has no fans.
Agree. It's more of a nice to have bonus, and it's a limited bonus at that. Anyone with an MB Air or with 16GB or less really should be using one of the cloud gaming options such as GFN

If nothing in logs and it happens constantly then sounds like a ticket to GGG, which will of course disappear into a black hole unless everyone is reporting it on the forum

A WINE log won't be very useful. This is a game issue - not a translation app issue I suspect. Hopefully the Client.txt file will have some sort of indicator in it

Has anyone tried to do the discord quest for POE2 ? I assume you can accept the quest on the native Mac discord and then complete it as per the rules for the quest ?
Some complaints: Playing and trading on mac-os is a bit frustrating, I have to turn /dnd on at all time and when I try to turn /dnd off to make a trade, my client crash like 1-3 times to finish a trade. Sometimes I get ignored from others due to frequent crash clients. Some people don't know how/refuse to play POE on Mac using windows client (like me) and they would often stuck with /dnd mode or quit the game so I hope they fix the mac-os crash clients issue on 3.26 or soon.
You do not need to use /dnd if you use the Windows client on a Mac AND use the native Mac version of Exile-Exchange. The setup guides for both are on the wiki, which is the first pinned message. This is the only way you can play POE2 and the only way to stop crashes running POE on a Mac. Three of the WINE based options are free. I’ve no idea why anyone is still trying to use the native Mac or Mac based Steam client. They are disasters and will not be fixed.
Switched to windows client and omg, it ultilize the entire GPU on my mac and I missed out so much graphic and game performance upgrade entire time. I still think some people (like me) afraid of trying window client and stick with /dnd because of not understand how to setup or scared of it affecting their computer. Still hope they fix the mac-os clients so more people can play the game without setup to windows client.
Which app did you choose to run the Windows version ? You can use it for both POE and POE2 of course.
The wiki is, by necessity, a wall of words, but that is because there are 4 options for POE on M series, 3 for Intel and 2 for POE2. Lot to cover but once you have followed one of the options it becomes a lot more straight forward. If you know of others still suffering by using the Mac or Mac steam client let them know there is a viable alternative that is pretty straight forward to set up.
There is a native Mac client under development for POE2. No release date. Not until at least 0.3.0, probably later. If this also covers POE and the Mac client on Steam for both that would great. If it does not then the WINE based apps are the only possibility for POE for Mac users.
Sounds like that particular town instance was broken and reset by now, in case you're reluctant to play on your favourite gateway.

You can use PoB without an issue but you won’t be able to use either EE or APT with GeForce though. There is a web based app that can do some of the things they do. You basically copy and paste the item in and it gives you an estimate of what it could go for. That’s about as good as you will get.

im currently following the installation guide on the wiki using kegworks and on step 14 where its asking me to remove 2.0 and 2.1 directories but these directories dont show up in the folder
Are you setting up POE or POE2 ? That step is NOT required for POE2

I'll edit the wiki and include the link there. I've no idea why this is happening. GGG or MacOS update changed something recently. It seemed to be an isolated issue at first but it seems to every time someone sets the game up now. Glad to hear it's up and running now.

As in the native Mac client ? Don’t. It’s broken - both the standalone and the Steam client. The workaround is to use the Windows based client via one of the methods outlined on the wiki - a link to which is pinned at the top of the channel.
Also the only way to play POE2 is via this method.

What configuration ? A base model with 8GB will likely not do well, regardless of which WINE app chosen. If you have 16GB or more of memory any of those listed will work. There is little difference. Crossover has the most up to date engine but Kegworks is free (and what I use).
I have a 16GB M1 pro macbook, kegworks works fine but doesn't want to use native resolution (3024x1964) and forces half on both axes in borderless windowed and displays a 1/4 rectangle in fullscreen

I'm running native resolution on POE2 via Kegworks just fine - 3456x1944 on a MBPro M1 Max in all 3 modes so it isn't Kegworks that is throwing your graphics off. It's either the display settings on your Mac or the in-game settings. These are my settings. Although this is POE2, POE should be similar and work the same way (I actually use GPTK itself for POE because it was the only option in the early days of WINE-DirectX12). You can also use BetterDisplay can create a virtual monitor with settings you want and run the game that way (I've run it in 16k mode that way).

What is 16k mode?
A virtual monitor that the display number would be 16xxx by some other stupidly large number for screen resolution. I think I might still have a screenshot of what that looks like. You basically need a magnifying glass to see anything. I could not really see any difference in graphic quality in the game, but it was fun to try it.

I've got an external SSD partitioned as exFAT. Can I use that meaningfully with my M1, or do I need to go and subpartition it?

With disk image, what exactly do you want to achieve. If you can give more detailed information I can help you better.
There are multiple types of disk images for different purposes. Like virtual disks, solid disk images etc.
Just add to the above - if you are looking to make a disk image to boot from, you won't be able to do a Windows one, since Apple Silicon don't support that 😡 - but you probably already knew that.
Just for ancillary storage of things like PoE and PoB. I don't trust that exfat is enough of a POSIX filesystem on its own so I'd need some sort of ergonomic virtual disk on it.
It's hard enough already to run things on a mac, I don't want to also fight filesystem case differences, lacknif symlinks, and other such semantics. Had enough of that with Linux 😉

I have a suggestion
You can use GDisk (GPT Fdisk) which is available for Linux and Windows to format your external SSD's partition table both with GPT and MBR, then add partitions using GDisk to your preference, then you can format them to UDF filesystem. You can use Rufus in Windows to format your partition to UDF and cli tools on Linux. It's a POSIX filesystem and being recognized by nearly every modern and ancient OS, and I got much much faster R/W speeds than ExFat in my own tests. You can learn more about it on Wikipedia.

It's originally designed for optical media but works so well in external drives. It's like a miracle that it's natively supported like FAT without needing for external stuff.
If you still would like to create / view /modify virtual disks you can use this awesome freeware on Windows. It has dozens of options including creating ram disks which drastically speeds up your game loading times if you have spare ram during gaming sessions.
P.S. you can use the .IMG format for you needs.
And have any filesystem inside it including RAW.

In the past, while PoE 1's game assets still were not taking much of a disk space I used to copy their main folders to OSFMount ramdisk and symlink them in place of real folders (especially 3D models of mobs, map objects and effects) to speed up my loading screen times. Loading screens are much faster now compared to the past and the game no longer has invisible mobs problem like it used to be.
I can still remember posts about using ramdisks for POE1 .
Have you tested performance of UDF vs ADFS ? ADFS is of course limited to Mac, which is ok if you only use the drive for Mac related stuff, but I'm curious how UDF compares to ADFS regardless, since UDF will allow for reads and writes from both Mac and Windows (I assume)

Didn't know ADFS was a thing ! APFS is Apple's file system management format. I would expect it to be faster than UDF, since it is specific to macOS whereas UDF is an all round system, which will mean it has to sacrifice some performance to accommodate that it is multi-purpose. Not sure there will be a lot of data on UDF vs APFS. UDF is not something I've seen commonly discussed when talking about file system formats. Is it limited (UDF) in the file sizes it can accommodate (like a 2GB limit). That would be annoying.

I've switched my internal main storage partition to ReFS on windows years ago. In the end it made me so mad when I noticed some of my files got corrupted over time. There's no repair function or such in ReFS and files still get corrupted despite ShitSoft's claim about being "resilient" and will be going to eventually replace NTFS

The FPS piece isn’t as useful since most modern games have FPS but it’s the additional info pulled from Metal HUD that is interesting (cpu, gpu and temperature). I hope at some stage they add the capability to run the metrics for a full session and the stats write to a file. Overall it helps when people ask “can this game run on …” since it has an online db that shows the info generated. Is it required - nope. An update was released yesterday to fix a few glitches.

They are all the same performance wise. I would recommend either Crossover (have to buy) or Kegworks (free). These are both maintained and have discord channels for support. Those are also the only choices for POE2.

Forgot that it stores the actual client and pack in Application Support even if you've got Applications on a different volume.

There isn’t really a compelling reason to upgrade. Sequioa has software support for AVX/AVX2 but that’s about it. I think only the M3 has ray tracing so you’re out of luck there too. I had a KVM once, when mouse connectors were a PS2 - yes I am that old 😜

Looks like the OS these days defaults to auto-updating the OS now, with opt-out in system prefs.

go into dnd mode and it will be fixed. still it's better to play it in crossover with directx12. performance is better with a lot of mobs/projectiles
they broke this with the accounting changes for poe2. hopefully fixed in 3.26

Using a VM is a non-starter for both POE games. When POE was more CPU load oriented it was possible but now that more of the load is GPU based, and VM’s are not good at emulating GPU’s, you have to use either WINE based apps or a native client if it exists.
well i tested crossover poe 1 on my 8gb mac m2
this is literally unplayable at all, its like 30 seconds - 1 minute loading screens , and it's like 2 fps with freezes for 5+seconds every second which is crazy
im sure that problem because of shader compilation but i dont know any way to compile them without playing the game which is compile them dynamically

The POE’s are essentially unplayable on a system with only 8GB, even with everything on lowest settings. This is mentioned on the wiki. The best option in that case is to use a cloud gaming platform (GFN, Boosteroid, etc)
Most games are unplayable with the base spec Apple silicon systems, “unified memory” means it’s shared between the CPU & GPU cores
That’s why’s the newer Apple silicon systems now have a minimum of 16GB of ram
Yes. Apple also bumped the minimum amount of RAM because of their Apple AI. It has a base requirement that takes at least 5GB by itself and there is no option turn not install it.

what did not work was i tested full screen and then cmd tab go to discord, and then not possible to enter back to poe1, i heard the sound of game but it did now show (when i use windowed mode, almost full screen as usual, worked, then i can go via the app-sidelist to show discord overlay, and back)

WINE based apps are still effectively the only way to play. You can’t use Whisky for POE2 and I would not recommend it for POE. Use one of the apps in the wiki.
There is a fix for MacOS clients coming that may help with the native client but it will need to be tested before being declared useable.

Crashing is only one issue. The standalone has issues with graphics and updating. It is also capped at 60FPS, so you never get higher than that.
The steam client has multithreading disabled. That means performance will be sub par at best.
For now, it is best to stick to the WINE based setups. Jonathan mentioned in passing that they had a new (I assume it is new and not a band aid) Mac client being used internally as part of POE2. It has no release date.

Hmm... New GPTK beta is out....
It is. Not sure there is anything in it that would be useful. Both CO and KWS won’t use it till it’s full release, though people can manually update if they really want to.

Hey has anyone got POE1 playing on crossover on M1? The win7 64bit bottle from crossover doesn't work, but a lot of people on the crossover compatibility webiste say it is working fine.
It works fine. You can use the Crossover install but it is out of date. You can follow the wiki page (which is in the pinned messages) to install using Crossover. Use a Win10 or Win11 64-bit bottle

OK. It'll be a bit slow but if you use the lowest settings it will be playable. POE (both of them) are resource hungry. No way around that.

I bought a ps5 pro because my desktop pc PSU shorted and killed my computer 😦 but playing on a pad sucks, no K&M

Yeah. I used to run Flcikerstike in Toxic sewer maps. I couldn't follow the character most of the time 🤣 Any of the WINE based apps will give you roughly the same performance, so if CO doesn't cut it then you can consider GFN, or another cloud based service (there is a small write up on wiki of the Pros and Cons). Steam deck might be another possibility but I've not heard of anyone using that, but it does seem to run ok for other games.

geforce now is good, but on mac you cant really use trademacro so it sucks :/ there are some ios apps that do that but its terrible

Yeah - that is one of the cons of GFN. You can use a web browser via GFN though as I understand it and there are item pricing websites you could use instead of APT. You copy/paste int othe website and it spits out a price. About the best you can hope for

it basically is an autohotkey macro, that makes a google doc, that it pastes the item into, then on your windows PC it copies the item from the google doc, into awakened trade macro
so it bypasses the lack of clipboard copy/paste between GFN and the system

Curious - AHK is windows based so usually you need to install it on a computer and AHK won't work natively on a Mac. You can't install AHK on GFN. I'll go read up on how they do that

You can install AHK in CO. I’ve done that. The challenge I hit a roadblock with is executing a script. The script that comes with it to track mouse co-ordinates runs and I had scripts installed in the same folder but they don’t appear in the bottle and I don’t know how to get them to run via the script hotkey. I might give it another try. There is a Crossover reddit and discord channel but it’s not a common app.
Hey everyone. Just setup PoE 1 in CO for the new leauge tomorrow. If I want to setup PoB and Awaken do I install them in separate bottles or within the same one?
PoB in seperate bottles. You do not need to install APT in a bottle. It has a native Mac version. You can also use it's replacement Exile-Exchange (I think it is called).

You should be ok with that config to run the game decently. It's been a while since I played so not sure what settings are available in POE. Use the defaults and see what happens. I have a M1 Max with 64GB so my settings are a mix of default and high. You won't likely get 60FPS once you have a lot of things onscreen. The game has always worked for me around 40-45FPS. Anything more is a bonus.

You run the game just like normal.
On launch day, there is usually a downtime around 3h before launch.
When that downtime concludes, you can run the game to have it patch itself to 3.26.
A while after that the queues open and will release people into character creation once launch time hits.

i managed to sort my stash, native mac OS standalone (sequoia 15.5) with /dnd activated and only 1 crash during that time 😜 (windowed mode) (Studio M1 max + 32 GB ram)
Well yes the /DND is the workaround. If you don't trade i.e SSF then that isn't an issue. If you do trade than that workaround isn't really practical. I think the patch for the native client which is supposed to fix some crash is being released today. I would wait for that update then try things without /DND on and see how it goes. If the update works flawlessly and the game runs without crashing post here. Maybe we can at least go back to native Mac standalone client 🤞 That may have a limitation on FPS but I can live with that.

If you have a system with 16GB or more you can always use the Windows client via the wiki how-to guide which is a pinned message in this channel, instead of GFN
one failure is the most crucial to play, specifically the one that crashes permanently for 10 minutes from starting the game to the desktop, if they fixed other flaws, it wouldn't make any difference to most people

I hoped that after the news about the fix for game crashes on MacOS, the game would finally work normally on the native client, but no - I installed the update in Steam and now the game doesn't open at all. When I click the Play button in Steam, the game opens for literally a second and then immediately closes

Yes. The overlay is a native Mac app. No need to use Kegworks or other WINE app for it.
Same reason most of us aren’t using the Mac clients. When there is a workaround you don’t need to fix it. Only if we were completely stuck i.e no-one log in will an issue be a high priority.

Yes. A player posted 2 days ago. I was surprised as well. The second link they sent is basically referring to "use the first link". Exiled-Exchange is the successor to APT. It has a native version for the Mac which is nice

No. I don't use GFN but the post and the app wouldn't exist if it did not work. If you run into issues getting it to run I would post in the github page for help. I am not sure if there is a discord channel or any other avenue to get help. If it does work then please post your experience here so we can all know

I've read through the whole thing but my understanding is you install Exiled-Exchange, which is a native Mac app. The Windows part it refers to is the GFN system. But that is just my guess how it all hangs together

Exiled Exchange is for poe2 i guess never played poe2 before. For poe1 we need to use Awakened poe . BUT for both of them we need to use another 3rd party tool which is called "GFNPoEPriceCheck" which is help us to use trading tool via GFN. And this 3rd party tool is exe 😦

What are the symptoms ?
I launch poe in porting kit and it immediately closes, i tried reinstalling, didn't change anything.
Check the config file. Make sure the renderer is set to DirectX12.
If that is the case I suspect portingkit may no longer be useable. GGG made changes a while ago that prevented portingkit and GPTK being used for POE2. Sounds like it’s the same for POE now
Crossover and Kegworks still work. Kegworks is the only free option.

Are you guys able to open the game? M1 Mac just doesn't install with the message: "Path of Exile" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Bin."

This is the native standalone client and it is still broken. There is a pinned message how to resolve this you can try but I think you will then hit another issue. You check the forums to see if there is a workaround for this fresh hell.

I'm in using the native Mac standalone client ! Performance is awful, even in HO, It may get better once cache and shader files are populated.

The problem now is every time I exit and try to start the native client again it gives me this error message.
Removing HashCache.dat and opening the client again allows login again. This will get tiresome but the native client is working - even at 26FPS in a rare T16 is seems reasonable - but I play a spider minion build so it might be easier than a lot of other builds
GPTK and portingkit are still dead though, unless someone has got either of them running
My kegworks instance is busto - it updated, but didn't generate a .tmp executable then immediately closes.
I jammed all 3.25 and previously the update process was as-shown in the wiki
Oh and don't press the M key. It crashes the game everytime. I did not have to remove HashCache.dat t oget back in though, so that was nice

Awesome - so the engine needs to be updated. That isn't really surprising. The "current" engine is fairly old, but it also means that GGG made changes in this release that broke a perfectly working setup. I'll post the engine update on the wiki in a day or two. Thanks for getting it up and running.
Steam doesn't work (instantly closes) but standalone does seem to work after moving the .app to the Library and unblocking the Security check. M2 Max Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.7.6.
Steam has multithreading disabled still for Mac afaik so you wouldn't want to use it anyway 😀
I don't think the Steam client has ever worked on this machine, but I keep poking at it 😉
If you are really really attached to using Steam sure but as I said, it has no multithreading. You'd be better off with the standalone or via one of the wiki methods.
Finally it works.
- Open Path Of Exile as usual (I just use Spotlight [Cmd + Space] > Path of Exile)
- It will say it's corrupt -> go to Privacy and Security and 'Open Anyway'
- It will say corrupt still, move to Bin
- From Bin drag that Path of Exile.app into /Users/[YOUR MAC USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile
- Open that Path of Exile.app in that same folder, making sure you have a 'Content.ggpk' (around 51.05GB for me) file within.
- Boom! Works!
Hotfix 3 has some fun new stuff that might help/hose you peeps:
Changed DirectX12 to be the default Renderer, which also helps players who were experiencing device errors under DirectX11. Clients on DirectX11 will automatically switch to this if supported but can change back if needed. The "(default)" text next to this will be updated in a later patch.
Fixed an bug where vendor windows would not save the search filter after clearing the textbox.
Fixed a client crash on Steam login screen.
Looks like after hotfix 3, GGG updated the setting key:
it was "renderer_type=Vulkan"
now it is "device_type=Vulkan"

What version of CO and what are your bottle settings. You need to be running v25.0.1 and using D3DMetal+Msync
Yup I was. Ok I fixed it, I deleted the config file and when the game recreated it I updated the setting

You can but you can also delete the file and let the game recreate it if you have not already done that.
That may not be the issue though.
It won’t hurt to try. Make a copy of the file first otherwise you’ll lose all your settings and have to build from scratch

You do not need both. POE2 is for POE2. It should not be there. Did you download the config file via the github link ? If so that’s fine but you need to rename it and delete the old one

Having everything on low settings might help. Performance is poor on every app I’ve tried. The Mac native app gives me a scorching 30FPS in HO, so it’s a game thing, not the app. GFN might be better but you are very limited in the 3rd party tools you can use. Loot filters will run (at least Filterblade will). There are two posts on how to get Exiled-Exchange running. I think another post might have been for APT. There are only a day or 2 old so should be easy to find.
It can be empty. It should populate when you enter the game. I assume you updated the engine being used or is it working without that change ?

Look for gigachad. They updated the engine for portingkit. You may need to do that as well.

During startup the game has to initialise far enough to write configuration file contents.
You could possibly get around it with putting in some placeholder entries to change the renderer if your runtime needs a particular one, like:

device_type=DirectX12
Depends really on if it can run it with any renderer at all.
And yeah, as the game evolves you may need newer engines to support it.

Yeap. There is a pinned message with these steps in it for those who also encounter this problem. Did you also need to grant POE full permissions before doing this ? Some players have reported not getting the security alert without doing this. I don’t believe I needed to do that but it has been a long time since I used the native client.
So I just opened the game in CO and it did a quick minor patch update but then after that the game no longer launches, the client patcher loads for a hot second then just closes the entire game, never makes it to the splash screen. Any ideas what this could be? I'm currently reinstalling but curious if this happens with CO affter patches?
It's likely because the renderer setting was changed this patch. See the patch notes or look for a post by zao on what it should be in the config_in i file now

For PoE1, it used to be renderer_type and has been changed to honor device_type instead.
My interpretation is that if the new key isn't present, it tries to autodetect and if that crashes out, you're not making progress.
So it's okay to just replace renderer_type with device_type in the config file now?

It works now for me too. Good to note that for fresh installs now the config file now includes the "device_type" in the config file but it is set to Vulkan so that needs to be changed to DirectX12
As I understand it a hotfix was supposed to update that field. It should have read DirectX12, not Vulkan - unless your system is an Intel based Mac.
Interesting. Well I'm on an M series Mac and after doing the fresh install the config file had written device_type=Vulkan so maybe there's an oversight somewhere 😵💫

Interesting - the file was not updated when I logged on, so it still had the old parameter of renderer_type=Directx12. It did not even write the new field in. Manually adding the new field in (and leaving the old field there) and the game successfully started up. So the hotfix update isn't working for 2 reasons (it is not updating wit hthe new field and where it does the field is still set to Vulkan). Maybe because the client is reading the system and sees it is a Mac, not Windows device and gets all confused. That however does not explain why my Mac native client also refused to update the file 🤔
Hi, is POE bricked for MAC/steam? After new patch the game fails to open. Tried to download standalone game from their website, but it also fails to work. Maybe someone knows if there is a fix, couldn't find anything on forums (MacBookPro 16' M3).
There is a workaround for the "damaged file" error with the native client. It is in the pinned messages section. This is for the standalone client only. Steam seemes completely messed up.
I am having the same issue. I have not been able to find a fix for it. I am not getting any error when trying to load the game from steam. It just never even starts ups. 😦

which folder is hidden? I have done this and Path of Exile folder isn't shown in /Users/yourUserName/Library/Application Support/
Be aware - this method is inconsistent, at least for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it gets further and presents another error message. Every time I start the native standalone client I have to go through the same process. I have given up using it today. Went back to using Kegworks, which is flawless.
Library was a hidden folder for me under my username folder

The workaround is not guaranteed to work. It is extremely hit and miss. I am puzzled why GGG would not be seeing these issues in testing
I would highly recommend making a post in the technical or bug section of the official forums. GGG need to see volume to take notice and prioritize this issue.

Do not remove the app under /Applications - it is supposed to be there.
The fix is not hard to do but it can take several attempts before being successful. I just launched the standalone client and it ran without issues - this time. It could just as likely error on me later on.
Follow the pinned process. It's the closest thing to getting the standalone client running.

I don't think steam login works with standalone. Try searching, but imo you will need to create a new account.

This is the standalone Mac client yes ? You should be able to fire up the app again and that should go away (and update if it really needs to).
If not - then remove the Update.dat file and maybe HashCache.dat as well and try again. It's hit and miss if the workaround for the standalone works consistenyl or not. To avoid this altogether setup the Windows client instead, as per the wiki, the link to which is in pinned messages.

If u open the folder where that one is placed, and open the PathOfExile.app in that folder instead, should be in pathway:
user/username/library/application support/Path or Exile (folder)
if that dont work, check your security, if something is showed up there
@ruby juniper in order to use the Standalone client you associate a email and password with your PoE account on the website and use that to sign into the Standalone client.
A PoE account can have several login methods associated with it, from Steam and Standalone to console and Epic ones.
If you've ended up with multiple accounts already, support may be able to help you merge them up.
the download of steam and standalone is placed on different spots on the mac, u dont need to delete the steam part to download and play the standalone
i have both installed, just in case...
and yea, it is another way to reach the standalone, u need to sign in to the website and register an email and another login password onto your first login there (with steam) both can still be used connected to the same pathofexile ingame account

You don't need a subscription to anything. I don't see why you can't use the setup on the GFN free tier. ngrok is, or was free. It's a lot of effort to get a price check going when you can just use a browser based price checker though. I never traded enough to need a tool. I've always found the GGG trade site is generally good enough to get an idea on pricing, but that's just me. The other options is Exiled-Exchange. Never used it and someone said it is only for POE2. Not sure if this is true or not. I though EE replaced APT for both games. If that is true then there is a post about who to get EE running on GFN, using another 3rd party option but not nearly as complex as trying to get APT runing via that link I referred you to.

You are missing the Path of Exile.app file, in the instructions you are supposed to move the one from trash to this folder and open it from there after clicking "Move to trash" on the app.

When you clicked move to trash it moves to correct .app file to your trashcan, so you need to open your trash can and move the .app from there to the Path of Exile directory.

I've installed standalone Mac client and followed the steps to get past the security error. Can start the application just fine, going through launcher as it should, opening the actual application showing the login page. Hoverever when trying to log in i get the "must update" message. There is no update.dat file and deleting the hashcache.dat does not change anything, it just gets recreated.
quitting and restarting the application shows the launcher checking for update but deciding the version i have is good, but when i try to log in nothing has changed.
Is there any way to check what version im on? Any other ideas on what to try?

in your Path of Exile directory what is the date of the Content.ggpk and the Path of Exile.app files?

delete it, then delete the one from your applications folder aswell. then delete the installer, and grab the latest .dmg from the pathofxile.com website - if that doesnt work you may need to fully reinstall.

i've come accros some (very very old) posts in the forum suggesting deleting the content.ggpk so i might give that a go and see if the updater wants to grab a correct version

It's unlikely that you ever manage to get the GGPK into a weird state; if you're looking to delete/move things to test, probably move the file somewhere else for safekeeping in the interim.

U can check the build version in the Path of Exile.app/Contents/Info.plist but its not gonna help u debug anything really.

You don’t. APT is a native client so just install it. You will probably need to configure the options in it to work properly but I believe a number of people are using it, or its successor Exiled-Exchange (which may only be for POE2. Not sure since I don’t use them)

Does POE even run ? It is not recommended for systems with less than 16GB, so I’m curious what FPS you get on that system.
There is a post about this "needs update" issue on the forum but the bug reports are ignored even more than the live update thread

Yeah - with a base system your best bet is to use the free version of GFN but then you can’t use tools like APT or EE so there is a trade off.
Has POE install using native client finished ? If so there will be a Path of Exile.app in that folder. If not then you either didn’t install from the dmg or it did not run properly. You could try and open if the .app is in /Applications. Either do that or reinstall

Have a finder window open in the Path of Exile folder. You should see 3 files appear - HashCache.dat, Update.dat and Path of Exile.app
Once those are there then you can follow the pinned post regarding the “This file is damaged”
It can take a few goes of deleting, emptying the bin and re-running. Also have the Privacy&Security section open to see the “Open anyway” message
I don't have .app file in the /Users/yourUserName/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile folder tho, only 2 .dat files and my Trash has .app file

@lilac trail not working for me 😉 seems like the folks of ggg failed to sign it correctly disabling csrutils fixes the problem
i wait til they figure out a fix, i mean sooner or later...
you can restart your mac in recovery mode > option > then open the terminal and enter "csrutils disable" there. After you restart and i am able to patch and launch now.

As i already mentioned, crsutil usualy just enables skipping the signature of the app which also seems to be broken. Most likely they changed there build procedure on mac and didnt test it at all....
I did all the possible steps from forum threads, managed to get Poe launching but it wouldn't update even when changing update.dat to update.zip, extracting it and replacing the app file. I thought I would find a solution here but I guess not

It was sort of playable on Steam because they disabled multithreading. It is still disabled. Performance would not be great but no-one seemed to have noticed 🤷♂️

The login problem with outdated client may be fixed now, give it a shot.
I can confirm it is working. You still need to do the usual workaround for the "File is damaged ..." problem but the login patch issue is no longer plaguing us

Depends on what you are asking about - the issue where it said the game needed a patch and to restart issue is gone. None of the other issues are fixed. I don't run the steam client. It's more broken than the standalone. Maybe switch to it or run via the Windows client as outlined on the wiki.

OK so ..... after logging off I decided to log back on again. Now this message comes up. There are 3 methods to get past it. However I think this issue is server/gateway related. I'm getting a scorching 8 FPS after logging in, so using a workaround is moot. It's unplayable at 8 FPS. Once the servers or gateway I'm on calms down a workaround should not be needed
Hey I'm getting the "there has been an update" bug message on login. Crossover. Anyone found a way in ? It was working fine like a few hours ago. EDIT : fixed it was probably on GGG side. deleted the client.exe and .dat file to do a new update.
