The base magnitude of Poison is Chaos Ddamage per second, this is calculated using the final damage dealt by the Hit, but not any modifiers on the target that affect how much damage they will take from the Hit. This magnitude is not further affected by any modifiers to the damage you deal.
Modifiers and Debuffs that affect the enemys ability to mitigate damage (such as Shock) can affect the damage the enemy takes from Poison, buty any such modifiers that specifically apply to Hit damage (such as Penetration) do not affect poison damage.
What happens if i apply a poison on a fully broken armour enemy?
Does the poison damage increases because the physical hit will do more damage since theres no armor mitigation?

Flame Wall has always added extra fire damage to any projectile that passes through it, it's one of the more fun flavorful skills from PoE1 tbh
going chrono means you're borderline unkillable so you can focus everything else on damage. it is good.

I don't think that counts as a modifier that affects how much they take. I think that would be something like "Increased damage taken" from a mark or something

It's one of the more fun early game sorc combos for me personally so I understand. And I think starting out having the spark+fire wall combo and then trying to transition into only one element would be a back step in terms of how enjoyable my build will be to play.
I was thinking maybe if I can work the effects of freeze together with the dps of flame fussilade early on, that'd be a lot of fun. Something like that. But I'm a newbie so idk

Yes, should be so. But only for Chill, Freeze build up is separate from Chill
Freeze, frostfire, work on stacking freeze again. Rinse repeat. Fire wall to increase projectile damage in general. Somewhere to start

The reason you want a higher phys # from your weapon is because there is increased % of phys prefix, but there is not a similar affix for lightning, so you can get a higher number via solely focusing your xbow on phys and then converting it to lighting
Ed/c style chaos dot is just bad and not supported by any spec right now unless you want to go generic defense in which case Chrono, chayula, gemling are the only real options

dont worry about it though. You unlock respeccing partway through Act 1 and it is VERY cheap (like 100 gold a point) at the start and gets more expensive per point as you level to scale with your increased gold gains

Oh I see. It's a slow effect not a full freeze. That seems really good. Freeze an enemy with shards+that one moving ice orb move that I forget the name of. Cold snap. Create a vortex that applies chill effect and slows the horde of mobs, rinse and repeat. That seems pretty decent.
The passive bonuses you gain from attributes themselves are mostly negligible, you would be more worried about losing access to another skill or item you have on
Freeze them again while they are moving slowly from chill. Cold snap. Massive damage good stuff

Your biggest issue is that you're resists are absolutely terrible for level 48. Get sockets on your gear and get your fire/cold/lightning res up

monk kinda seems like flicker strike is it's only hope, except flickerstrike sucks for bosses and is pretty limited for mobs given the available options
That's just incorrect. Mathil posted his monk video that's finished the campaign and doesn't use flicker strike
without flickerstrike you have to basically mow the screen down like a yard, whereas a sorc just takes it out all at once

No there are skills like the burst of poison burst arrow that "poison as though dealing X damage"

I think they'll tune it. I think one or two full free respecs would help this. I personally have 7 points I haven't spent on my tree yet because I just got the elemental section and I don't want to waste my gold experimenting. So you aren't alone

No, the dedicated poison applying bow skills just straight up apply the poison without a hit, like flame wall for example

Artificers will be easy to come by later I imagine so using them now to make it through easier in the short term would probably pay off - you need to be focusing on resistance and life as most important stats on every item aside from weapon in early game (I see you prioritized life in these examples but not resistances)

Life and resists are the only stats that really matter for defense. Once you have capped resists then you can start worrying about stuff like evasion and Armour

If mob had 75% cold res and I have 75% cold penetration with hits and I put a cold exposure on the enemy for -26%, how does this work?
Then those shouldnt be Path of Fire/Lightning/Ice, they should be the phys/minion/chaos nodes
And getting the poison chance to actually do it with any other skills completely massacres your tree

My PF is lvl 42 and quite literally the entire tree so far is just pathing to the poison nodes to get 40% chance, and the other 60% is from a support gem which you can't equip on any other skills

Life and resists on gear will far outweigh armor, evasion, etc
GGG really needs to add a tutorial or something that explains why attack based builds need weapon upgrades every 5 levels or so otherwise you feel like you constantly flip flop between God mode and terrible as you progress through the game
Let's say you are dealing a sum of 100 cold damage with a hit:
- The mob has 75% cold res
- You give them 26% of cold exposure
- Now the mob has effectively 49% resistance
- You have 75% cold penetration
- Your hit gets calculated at a resistance of 0% since penetration cannot go below 0%
- You deal 100 cold damage

Armor = resistance runes until your ele resists are capped (75%)

I'd look at skills that seem interesting or fun and pathing toward nodes that support that skill and/or give you defensive layers
so say I like fire ones a lot, would going here make sense? for a bunch of fire damage buffs
If you would summate the value of a chest armor based on what affixes are on it, you could have the highest tier of spirit, armor%, etc, etc and it would still be worthless until it had a high life roll and at least two decently rolled resistance mods
Those are the bare minimum for an item to be useful outside of particular scenarios you shouldnt be worried about in early/midgame
I'd also recommend taking as many useful notables (big nodes) and as few small nodes as possible (you have an unnecessary small node in that little diamond at the top of the starting area and an extraneous elemental node to the left of it)

You can't, really. Just hover over mobs as you go and try to learn

Use whichever is your lowest res, rare monsters can do any element regardless of monster type. I also like freeze or stun immunity
Just by playing you'll see which mob types are in which zones and eventually learn which mob types use abilities that deal certain damages. I would probably wager that most people are just going to use bleed and freeze charms

The resistance charms are there to shore up what resistance you are lacking currently, so if you have, say 50% lightning res, running a lightning charm will help you until you cap that res via gear, then you can use the far greater utility from the other charms
yeah I didn't know where to go and just got more from the starting area. The extraneous elemental node is 8% elemental damage, sounds like a lot, better respec it still? the ones in the center diamond all seems useful for critical damage/chance 🤔
All classes can use all gems/gear. I'd look at the ascendancy nodes and nearby clusters and go off of that
Small nodes are beneficial, yeah, but you might hit a situation where you could have a whole extra cluster with a notable if you didn't spend points on the small nodes. Everything is an opportunity cost. They're fine for now, but if you find yourself two points away from a good notable, I'd maybe respec them so you can get it sooner
One particular thing to note: chaos damage from mobs is more rare in the game and thus, chaos resistance is less valued than the three elemental resistances, so some people may run a chaos charm for particular zones that they already know have chaos damage types. Focus on the elemental resistances first, then worry about chaos with less priority

No. Unless it's specifically "deals damage faster". Lowering duration on its own doesn't raise dps

Increasing or decreasing duration won't affect dps at all. Making it deal damage faster effectively compresses the dot into a smaller time frame of higher dps. If you have a dot that normally does 100 damage per second for 5 seconds:
100% Inc duration = 100 dps for 10 seconds
Deals damage 100% faster = 200 dps for 2.5 seconds
Damage over time is managed via a per tick basis, not a sum total that is divided over the time of the debuff.

Stormweaver still has some fire stuff, but its mostly shock and chill; It DOES let you shock and chill with fire spells though. My friend is gonna try putting Elemental Discharge on Elemental Storm and inflicting all 3 ailments for it to consume

There are at least four nodes you can use on storm weaver that are beneficial to a fire build. Ice and lightning can make use of more nodes, but you aren't going to end up taking "dead nodes"

Increasing or decreasing duration doesn't affect the damage per second value, only the duration of the debuff. But things like swift affliction give you a powerful more damage multiplier while lessening the duration, so you have an investment cost of having to apply it more often. You generally take increased skill effect duration elsewhere to account for that.

Yeah, Shaper of Storms gives 10% of damage as Lightning and lets all damage shock, Winter does the same thing with Cold and Freeze

Again, the length of the duration (not speed) doesn't affect the actual DPS, so you want to focus on increasing the damage value specifically. Swift Affliction was just an example to show that while granting that powerful damage increase, you have to manage a shorter debuff window. Ideally you want the debuff to be as long as possible so you dont have to re-apply as often, but the game has some ways (like Swift Affliction) to force you to shorten it to gain damage per second.

Depends entirely on your build. If you think a new skill would help, I'd go with that. Since the next gem you find is going to level your gem up to your current cap anyway

Okay so I might be wrong here based on the poedb tooltip, there's a value that shows attack damage % for the cloud itself. One easy way to test is to get a shit bow with low damage, pull up the detailed tooltip to see how much damage the poison cloud does and then equip the shit bow

Well, overthinking is going to happen no matter what. And I wouldn't be too heavy handed with the artificer orbs if you're going to be replacing gear soon. And alchs, chaos, regals, etc are pretty valuable

The ultimate way to test if specifically projectile % increases affects the gas cloud is to unallocate a node with only % inc proj dmg and then check the gas cloud dmg, and then re-allocate and check again..

No, all increased/reduced modifiers that can apply to the same thing are summed up into one big additive modifier. Then THAT is multiplied by other more/less modifiers.

Not only can you scale crit chance, you can also scale crit damage. That's what makes crit so absurdly strong with enough investment. In poe1, most crit builds excluded crit entirely while leveling and getting their skill points, then did a massive respec when they had enough points/gear to make crit worth it
And perhaps done as a preventative measure so that this skill is only used in reference to a build that's scaling hit damage and not a proj skill that ignores the hit damage completely (like how some other PoE1 proj DoT skills work)

I'm not sure how many other buttons you need to press to support them though but if you want something other than minions I would check out zizarans stream. It's a build I'm somewhat interested in trying myself

I think for the most part you will use weapon sets for switching between mapping and bossing sets

Basically I'm going to eventually go chayula monk for the sustain and defense benefits. I'm running frost bolt, flame wall, and spark to apply chill, ignite and shock and then using solar orb and ember fusillade for single target.
My sources for ailments will change as I get further along but the idea is to rotate through ailment applications to get the damage buffs from nodes on the tree and then nuke with fusillade
You need more shock magnitude and the lightning damage value needs to be higher so it applies a higher value of shock

It's mostly the lightning damage value, cause magnitude works off of a % of the hit
so if you are hitting with very little lightning you are only ever going to get little shock
Baseline I think magnitude is 20% of the hit itself

If you just want the effect of the shock you're probably better of finding a way to get shocked ground which is a flat 20% dmg increase
Unless you want to invest into lightning dmg
its really weird that on any conversion skill you want to scale generic damage/crit over the damage types unless its full converted

Anybody here didnt give up on their warrior cos its difficult early on? I finally managed to make Titans Blood work. I am using a 2h Mace and a Shield same time, near unkillable and i absolutely smash packs AND bosses to bits. So satisfied, my class fantasy got realized perfectly, cant wait to see how far i can take this. So happy with my first PoE2 build. Right now I am just sundering from afar, kills everything. Or i leap into boneshatter, kills packs. And vs rares and bosses i use Perfect Strike and it chunks their health. Stacking blockchance and defensives and synergising that with stuff that increase dmg if im wearing a shield. Have these passives that increase dmg by 2% for every 1% of block. Think i got another 60 or 70 passives to go, this is gonna feel great, hope i get a unique that fits at some point.
Trying to wield 2h and a shield was rough to achieve tho, keep that in mind if u trying to do it too. I stacked so much strenght that i have tons of line and theres even passives that increase dmg per strght.
Overall im super happy with PoE2 so far. I got tons of currencies and loot cos i been looting and disenchanting everything(the extra 20 inv slots from titan helps), i jus wanted to share my experience cos boy am i happy im a warrior. (didnt feel like that during the trials tho)

Unsure, I'd have to see more like your entire build and gear, but it shouldn't matter if you're chilling or not that doesn't have any effect on the shock portion

Cast speed probably going to benefit you better now than the crit chance so # 1 imo
That's very odd. It says "cast" on the gem so I'm guessing that's the nail in the coffin. Everything aside from that one word implies it should work.

It can be situationally good. Eye of winter, for example, always goes a set distance and it shoots secondary projectiles as it moves. Slower proj will make a single cast shoot more projectiles overall.

Some skills generate more beneficial effects for them being on the screen for a longer amt of time, this heavily depends on your skills in your build

Anyone know if Earthbreaker stacks with split the earth? Tooltip doesn't indicate a change but I don't know if that's just a visual bug
one skill point into breaking point (10% inc. duration of elemental ailments/30% increased magnitude of non-damaging ailments) trivialized viper napuazi boss where I was hard stuck for 12 tries... how is a normal person supposed to figure that stuff out
So Increased Duration doesn't appear to affect the Corrupted Blood inflicted by Corrupting Cry.
Also decreased duration doesn't appear to affect it either, So Swift Affliction appears to just give it 35% More damage without any downsides (Well, it decreases the duration of buffs applied by the warcry, I guess.)
Likely a bug? How does one report those?

Duration tool tips have been known to be wrong. I've had several skills definitely work with it, but didn't show a difference in the tool tip. Be careful

Gas Arrow's explosion tooltip says it converts physical damage to fire. Does that mean that to maximize damage from the explosion, I would want to focus on physical and fire damage modifiers? Do projectile damage modifiers affect the explosion damage at all?

Builds are far more dependent on your skills than your class. If you take random nodes and use terrible skills, you won't be able to beat the campaign. But I think you can build basically any main skill to beat the campaign
Spell builds as a rule of thumb have really no issue doing campaign
I'm going to safely assume that you can clear the campaign with any ascendancy and any combination of damage type, you just have to know how to utilize them
does this apply to dmg AFTER theyve been knocked down? or AS theyre being knocked down? (by knocked down i mean, when u use up that white light with an ability like boneshatter or crushing blows)
