But really just get enough to equip things you need and then get str for life.
Dex gives a pitiful amount of accuracy and usually with 1 or 2 accuracy rolls on gear you will be 100% chance to hit

you can swap skills and your passive tree whenever. You just need uncut gems and gold

also feeling like you deal 0 damage is incredibly commonplace and you likely just need to learn how to upgrade your gear and be efficient with your looting

1. Make sure your weapon is up to date. Attack skills ideally want a new weapon as often as possible since the base damage goes up so much between them.
2. Prioritize life and resists on gear, and especially movement speed on boots. Ignore basically all other stats on non-weapons
3. Make sure your life flask is the highest tier it can be with two decent mods. Transmute + augment a flask to make sure it has two mods.
4. Check vendors every level (they reshuffle their wares whenever you level up) for possible upgrades.
5. Make sure your main skill is the highest level it can be and you're using the most support gems possible for its sockets
6. Salvage items with sockets for artificer shards. These build into artificer orbs so you can add sockets/runes to your gear. Runes can give you resists and more damage.
7. Pick up everything except for normal (white) items that take up more than 2 slots. Once you're done salvaging and looking for upgrades, I'd sell everything else for gold. Be sure to identify everything for free at the hooded one, first.

imo you should always be going out of your way to pick up normal/magic items, transmute/aug/ID them, and see if they have regal potential. I'd also recommend saving rare weapons and reforging them once you get 3 bad ones

try to get boots with some movement speed, at least 10 for start
you can get some evasion nodes once you get to them
once you got some spirit gem get wind dancer for "more" evasion ("more" will significantly boost the one you already "increased")

Yah, sometimes you can find a merchant node and there's always a mechant in the chest room after a boss. If it's the last boss of the run, the merchant will be selling all relics, otherwise they usually sell mostly boons but sometimes they might have relics.

in general, if you take a look at the passive tree, you will see the majority of its power is in the notables (larger nodes at the end of paths). So its in your best interest to get as many of those that benefit you as you can. The small nodes are simple a means to get to them.
