I think it would be much more fruitful to provide specific feedback rather than speculate how many people like or dislike an update. Every single time Discord makes a major chance there are people who dislike that change, but when we're looking at the data we have available, it would suggest otherwise. If not, we roll things back - we experimented with a different mobile UI for servers that we chose not to implement because of feedback.

I saw some people discuss accessibility - what exactly makes the new UI less accessible? Just shouting "UI is bad" isn't really going to make a difference as it's not meaningful feedback. Be specific in what you like or dislike and you have a much better chance of it being seen by Discord 🙂

And yeah remember to be respectful to each other - it's one thing to dislike a change and let us know so than to attack others, so let's avoid that. And before ya'll start pinging me, just a disclaimer I have no involvement in the change so just here in my free time to read some of the feedback 🙂

As an autistic person, the entire new layout is very overwhelming. The DM tab is absolutely horrendous to look at, and as for someone who needs constant stimulation (switching back and forth between the leaderboard to server list), it's a nightmare trying to sit still. The new UI itself is great, but I wish I could go back to the old layout. I miss seeing my DMS easily.

I as an autistic person am a creature of habit, consistency, and routine. My life revolves around it. It's part of the disability profile of this neurotype, Autism, to have rigidity and to heavily, heavily dislike it when changes are foisted upon us, especially with Zero Warning, and therefore zero time to prepare, and particularly strongly when we have zero option of going back.

Autistic people who experience sudden, drastic, unexpected changes then are thrust often into severe mental distress and overload, especially if there is no way to immediately correct the change, and especially if they were not prepared for it.

So this is just my personal opinion right - but I think often with major changes anywhere people who dislike a change are much more likely to speak about that. When platforms like Discord make major changes, we're not just looking at user feedback (although this is also important for us), but also at the data. Sometimes making changes is needed even though it's expected not everyone will like a change.

That doesn't mean user feedback isn't important though, especially specific feedback like disliking the swipe to left to reply, accessibility etc. are things that the teams working on this will read and see if and how improvements can be made / are needed.
