6 degrees
@misty rampart when you say minimalist, do you just mean similar lower or mid profile aluminum cases or is pc or acrylic ok too?
I already have a flat case for my 60HE but I don't like the look of the exposed switches. Does anyone know of any flat cases that are still shrouded? Like a flat Tofu or Klippe T?
What material or does it not matter?
Would prefer aluminum but I'm open to other materials.
In acrylic I think the Drop Carina cases might suit you if you can find one in your area
I'll be testing one this week or next to see if it works but it should. I'll also be testing the Melgeek Mojo aluminum this week, which is a 5-6% aluminum case, I think those are easier to find
Ah, I was looking for a 0 degree case but that Mojo looks nice, actually.
To be clear, I make no claims these cases work, but I dont see why they wouldnt. I'll have an update in a few days when they arrive.
does anyone think it is worth it to get the tofu60 for the case swap when the 2.0 is in group buy?
2.0 is not compatible
i know it has different mounting styles but what is the difference with the 1.0? i have not read anything about it yet. doesnt it have the same stock mounting as the 1.0 though?
Nope, it’s top/gasket/silicone thingy mount + has a center usb daughterboard
shit kbdfans ruined it with the usb placement
If you like the look of the Tofu60, look for the Freebird60
You’d have to, get a custom plate made with the stand-offs to screw pcb into plate + somehow get a jst connector onto pcb that is compatible with whatever daughterboard they are using
can the fb60 be oring modded? i just saw a few people say it could, and couldnt be modded with the 60he
No idea. I have a Freebird60 coming this week but I have no intention of o-ring modding it as I dont want to increase the flexibility of my board.
Im currently waiting on my board to arrive. I was looking at mods and was wondering if anyone has tried PE foam. Most of the PE out there is for normal switches and covers the PCB. Has anyone tried out some PE foam to see if it interferes with the PCBs ability to read the lekker switches?
also Ive seen some people recommend the KBDfans silicone stand off covers for cases that cant do the oring mod @sonic knoll
Using a silicone stand off cover vs an oring wont change anything about the mounting system or change which case you cant use. As for the PE foam, are you talking between the PCB and plate or for case foam?
they said pcb
theres already foam inbetween the plate and pcb so the pe foam idea isnt needed
^ nvm i read this wrong
Theres foam in the case already is what I meant i forget pe foam mod is used as a case foam not inbetween playe and pcb x)
I have a Freebird60. Yes you can o-ring mod it.
this question gets asked over and over again. I don't get why discord makes pinned messages so hidden away. The answer for tofu alternatives that are similar in design is Klippe T, Freebird60 and Poseidon60 - ordered by price
@regal hound unless I misread someone was asking if the oring mount could be used or not in a freebird case. I didn't know but said I've seen some recommend silicone stand offs if the case isn't burger mount or oring compatible. I know it's not the same just a suggestion as potential alternative! And for PE would be between plate and PBC not as case foam. It would likely be andextra layer with the foam already provided. And I don't know how sensitive the tolerances on the Lekker switches are
I can't comment on using different foam between the plate and PCB. As for the silicone standoff covers, they would add about as much height to the standoff as putting a small oring on top of the standoff so I'm not sure it solves anything. The only thing either would do is potentially require you to use a longer screw 🤷
I have both the o-rings and the standoffs on my desk! The standoffs are significantly thinner than the o-rings. The two issues I think you'd run into or whether or not they would make much of a difference at all because they are thinner. And whether or not they're the right diameter to fit cases other than the tofu because I believe that's what they're designed for. Just my two cents
does any1 have pic of freedom bird 60
Already have the PCB and Plate? Love 60% keyboards? Simple and really well-made e-coated aluminum case, right here! Includes silicon strip feet, M2 Screws, O-rings, silicon case dampener, AND a carrying case. All for 70USD, cannot get a better deal than this! We, here in KeebsForAll, strive to offer affordable options for those who are barely ge...
ive seen those but is it good alternative to kbtfans tofu since you cant get it anymore
Pretty sure someone mentioned it already, but Klippe T, Firebird 60, Poseidon 60, are all good alternatives in decreasing order of cost
is there any easy silicone dampener i can buy for the case
or foam or some kind of sound mod
Doesn’t it come with a silicon dampener
I threw my 60HE in a $15 plastic KBDfans case, burger mounted it, silicon poured the bottom, and used polyfill
@random needle still waiting on my baldr case, should be here Wednesday but this will do for now
does silicone pouring really make any difference to foam?
I like it because it sounds more poppy than foam
Foam usually gives it a thuddy/thocky sound whereas silicone just fills out the hollowness but retains the high pitch of plastic/acrylic
At least from what i've found
Can I use the stock 60he case with any 60 percent tray mount pcb?
If they're both DZ60 designed? Probably.
Will working 60he fit in Bakeneko60
@verbal nimbus no, its a center USB port
I'm interested in getting the 60he and putting it inside the Fjell. It doesn't look like the Fjell case comes with any case foam. Is the 60he even compatible with the mekanisk foam, and would not including it make the board too hollow?
I currently have my wooting installed in a Fjell and I do have the Mekanisk case foam, which is compatible, but I actually dont use it as I dont like how muted the sound is with the case foam in. The only mods Ive done are tape mod, burger mount, and I use some polyfill for dampening instead of case foam.
Does the wooting 60he come with stock foam? Does that fit in the Fjell and if it does then is it also as muted?
It does, but it's designed for the 60HE case.
It's a two tier deal. With cutouts for the mount holes.
I have a Klippe t case and was wondering where to find the case foam. I was looking on 1up keyboards and Mekanisk keyboards but they both don’t have stock.
Are the switches for the wooting 60he south or north facing?
North - But gateron addressed potential issues with almost all south facing keycaps. Cherry should fit just fine. And if you're that 1% where it doesn't, you'll notice scratching (let us know for feedback) and you can pull and rotate all of the switches to be south facing.
Thanks for the info
@pure drift I got my foam from stupid fish
The fun part 😄
After a 12 hours shift, instead of sleeping what else would you do? 😅
Would anyone know if Ducky One 3 mini aura white be compatible with Wooting 60HE
also have a case compatibility question
was looking at these standoffs and wondering if it'd be ok with the w60HE
the purple looks nice, wanted to give it a shot but also didn't want to risk killing the PCB lol
@fresh jackal do you know if it would be possible to get the lekker switch housing cad files added to the GitHub?
trying to get diy switch films made
Highly doubt it. That'd be Gateron you'll need to contact. 😉
Buy some switches, do some measurements.
(Also films don't really help)
@carmine timber it doesnt specifically say it in the description but it hints that the gold standoffs are removeable and not to be used for 60% PCB's. If they are removeable and the mounting points for those standoffs sit below the standard 60 standoffs, there is an above average chance that it will work in that case. Maybe put some electrical tape over the other standoffs and tape mod the bottom of the board with a few layers of painters tape as a precaution if you plan to try it out.
Probably not lube switches 😭
I have this case from Ali express. It fits fine
With one and half layer of foam and two layers of tape
did u have to do anything special with the standoffs?
I just took them off with screw driver attachment I had with my ifixit kit
thank you
any third party stabilizers recommandation to change from the wooting stocks one ?
I don't really like the sound of the stock one even after doing some mod on it so i'm looking for new ones
everglide panda from kprepublic are fine
Everglide Panda Gold-Plated Plate Mounted Stabilizers Pls pay attentions: Plate Mounted Stabilizer only; If you choose GH60 or 104 Plus, 7U only contain a wire:) Not PCB stabilizer ! Plate Mounted Stabilizers. Spec 1\Designed for MX-compatible Plate 2\Stainless steel wire is made of alloy material, with gold
TX Stabilizers
Finally finished my wooting build. The last part was to put it in a glass case, the baldr.
I put some tiny Sorbothane strips on the corners of the case (which the PCB sits on) and friction fit it into the case with a gummy o-ring. Its held in there really well and I had to push super hard to even get the pcb and plate in the case.
@random needle If you're still trying to build in your case I would recommend you do the same thing I did. My standoffs wouldnt fit (they would just fall out) so I had to do the above. I'm not sure how yours are stuck so hard in! Weird.
you can use gorilla glue to glue the standoffs in
Has someone tried the psd60 RE case from aliExpress yet ?
Looks compatible at a glance (never trust that blindly) but the seller doesn't specify support, nor do they seem to answer questions.
thanks for investigating
what do you guys think?
I think I've been on the internet long enough to never hit play on an unknown audio file while at work.
that's impressive for 60he tbh
how did you manage to fix stem rattle?
don't you work at home?
You assume I'm alone
damn - that was my hope

@fresh jackal those standoffs look ok right? nothing to break the pcb @late stream
I think they are but you are more experienced in the matter
https://imgur.com/gallery/BxUK22l
Looks like? But I won't guarantee it. Always perform measurements.
I should know - I managed to kill my first 60HE within minutes of unpacking it due to insufficient measurements 😄
I pulled the trigger and bought it.
i really just lubed the switches
i think lubing the pole part helps in reducing the rattle
Be sure to provide feedback if you try and mount it. Be very mindful of the the 2-3mm? gap needed below the PCB in all places to allow for the bottom mounted components to not get crushed from pressure of screwing the case and module together. This is usually where things go bad - either from standoffs that shouldn't be there because the PCB doesn't have them (so you impale a component), or the front/back half of the "floor" of the case being at an angle where the PCB has room on one end but not the other (which means you'll need to extend the standoffs a tiny bit)
Caliper ftw
@late stream I have the case (however NOT the rounded edge version, just the regular) but not the wooting pcb yet. I measured the distance from the floor to where the pcb would mount to the standoffs - it measures about 6mm and the case floor is flat, so should clear (especially if you decide to "burger mount" with silicone o-rings). The BIG question mark are the 7 screwless "ridges" that protrude from the case wall - the Tofu60 does not have these (uh oh) but the Klippe T / Fjell boards which have been proven to be compatible have 4 of them. Looking at the stock case they do have similar supports however they are very thin and in differing positions to both the mekanisk board's and the psd60.
measurements of the wooting pcb module would help my investigations further until I receive mine
@dim bone that's more good than bad news. Thanks 😊
no worries, I'll share once I receive my pcb - or you please share with me if you receive your items first... The perks of living in the outback 🦘
case should arrive in 2 weeks, 60he is currently scheduled for end of march D:
Someone recommended TX stabs. I was under the impression the wooting wasn't compatible with TX stabs. Has anyone tried them?
It ain't much, but its mine lol! After seeing the Tofu60 case was no longer available, decided on the 5° 60% Anodized Aluminum Case from kbdfans. And after spending waaaaay too much time looking at keycaps, I ended up going with the Skyline keycaps (pbt doubleshot) from Duckey. Really pleased with how it turned out. I also went with the burger mount, was pleasantly surprised how smooth that went, especially given that I've never modded keyboards before. Once I get my switch opener, I'll take it back apart and lube the switches and oil the springs and maybe add some additional foam.
The TX ones I saw had weird nubs that pushed down into the PCB, not clicked into the switch plate. I assume they make both styles?
tx stabs are clipins and 60he stock stabs are plate mount no?
search TX stabs plate mount
Might be a language barrier dumb dumb on my part admittedly. I'd argue that the ones I showed above clip into the switch plate
You push in the little plastic lever piece and they slide in and click into place.
Yes. That is not the plate mount one
Got my 60He a few weeks ago, psd60 (not re) arrives next week, will give feedback soon.
ya i have many TX stabs and they are all designed to fit screw in PCB slots
im not aware of any clip in types on the market by TX
but i would love to be proven wrong haha
I think there is often confusion about stabilizer terminology. In the case of the 60HE you are looking for plate mounted stabilizers (which are often called clip-in stabilizers as they do clip into the plate) and you do not want PCB mount / Screw-in stabilizers (which on rare occasion can be called clip in stabilizers as there are some older cherry PCB boards that had holes that the stabilizers clipped in to instead of screw in to). Here is a picture of a PCB clip-in stabilizer, which you do not want:
Hey guys! I'm going to mod the wooting using a Tofu 60% walnut case. I do however want to paint the case and i want the color to be the same as the grey keys of the ePBT black japanese set. Is there anyway for me to figure out the color code of the set? Or even better, is there anyway for me to figure out the color code that the tofu 60% linen grey has?
i think it's a better case than tofu (preference of course :))
yeah that sounds like something along the lines of what i'm thinking. Sorbothane strips sound like a good solution, too. As far as the standoffs go... i'm assuming that's just down to QCing a small production run product like the Baldr. Glass is far from the perfect material as far as tolerances are concerned. (I'm a little surprised they went for friction fit for that reason, but then again any of the alternatives would have probably been expensive...)
TX Plate Mount Stabilizers are the latest plate mounted stabilizers in the industry. Utilizing similar tolerances to the popular PCB mounted version, these stabilizers require minimal tuning to achieve amazing results. TX Plate Mount Stabilizers Features: Plate-Mount Materials: Stem: TPU and POM Housing: POM Available
I stand corrected! Those do look like TX plate stabs. I ordered them haha
I currently have zeal stabs while awaiting my wooting to come so I can mod it. I will definitely spend some time seeing which I like more between the two
Has anyone seen issues like this with gmk keycaps b4? Just got my gmk moonlight from kbdfans but my f & j keys are warped , found a novelty replacement for j but don't have a similar one for f 😭
it is only on the J and the F key?
is so thats normal its a tactile marker for finger placement
some keycaps do a bigger dip and others do a tiny little notch on the bottom of they keycap
oh i misread it looks like it is only on the J and the F haha so it is likely intentional. you should should be able to look in the kit and see if there is a second set of J and F with the different key markers
Np man. We have all been there. I think I had the exact same moment on my first keycap set. Until a friend told me the same thing haha 😂
After 4 hours of lubing i finally finished lubing my first keyboard, wooting 60he. I thought people were just exaggerating when they said put aside like a full day to lube.
I have that for my epbt voo keycap set too - it's a bit too much for a marker that's for sure
tips to make the spacebar feel nicer? It currently feels the worst compared to all the other keys (I lubed my 60he) but still it sounds different everywhere depending on where I press. Not a huge deal (I use it for a couple of motnhs already) but it would be nice to mod it further
Got 4 white fr4 plates (you’ll need to source kbdfans standoffs/screws to use) left over if anyone is interested as well as Deadline AirC PC base
I did it at midnight. I still regret it
for those that have fully modded their 60he, what kind of sound profile does it give off?
@fresh jackal I have confirmed that the Melgeek Mojo60 Case works for a drop in case replacement. No mods required - https://www.melgeek.com/products/melgeek-mojo60-aluminum-mechanical-keyboard-case?variant=32269875773489
Cool. Got a photo I can include of the finished product?
I was also able to verify that the Freebird60 does indeed work without modifications but that was already know.
Ugh yes I do but the matching caps won't be here until Monday so I hate doing this....
Ill update the photo once these arrive Monday
Tofu60 clone options please?
Submit or request a review of a case by adding a comment or posting on discord
Closest clone to the Tofu60 would be a Freebird60
Finished modding my 60he, first time I have ever modded a Keyboard, pleased with the result 😀 (ignore the mess of cables on my desk):
Looks amazing! Great job and love the keycaps combo with the wood
hi, is there a wooting 60he high profile aluminum compatible case?
Klippe T
Appreciate it, just what i was looking for. Unfortunately out of stock everywhere. Might buy an used on on Ebay.
They have stock on their official site
Specifications Size 60% keyboard Compatibility 60% poker / tray mount Weight Approx. 1 kg Screw size M2x5mm Material Aircraft-grade aluminium In the box Klippe T Keyboard Chassis with all mounting hardware and pre-installed viewfinder bumpons High-quality packaging Finish The keyboard can have anodizing hook marks on t
Anyone know if this case from mechboards is compatible with the wooting? At first glance it looks like the screw holes line up but would like to hear opinions https://mechboards.co.uk/products/high-profile-60-aluminium-case
False Klippe T is
@verbal nimbus for sure if you're talking typing angle since both are 7%. If you're talking looks, weight, bezel size and price then I'd still lean towards the Freebird as being a closer match.
Psd60 is even closer
all clears 🥰
anyone gonna try this? https://youtu.be/4y-qF7Ga_W0

Wireless keyboards are SUPPOSED to be wireless. So why do we need to keep a wire around to plug them in? We don’t, and for just $2 we will show you how to add Qi-compatible charging to nearly any wireless keyboard.

might not work cuz it produces electricity w magnets no?
Cherry plate mount stabs and everglide panda are better than tx imo
Is this confirmed? Outside the 5° I can't find kbd's anywhere, let alone tofu's.
Only got some should-fit-comments on this Discord. Ordered it a few days ago, will test it and check it myself.
Tofu60 was discontinued, so used ones are the last hope if the psd60 doesnt fit
(for this specific optic)
oh true the keyboard has to be wireless in the first place 😂
@granite spruce if you want black or navy I might be able to help you out on a Tofu or Freebird case. I've got a few extras from my testing.
Speaking of cases, here is a sneak peak of something I'm working on. It's a special edition Klippe solid brass case (only 30 ever made and weighs about 8lbs). I managed to find one but it was all dirty/fingerprints/patina. Here is the before.
Here is after cleaning and the first coat of polish
Would be interessted in a freebird. Would you dm me your conditions?
Hi all 👋
I wonder if we can ask for a custom board ?
Ok , let me ask... maybe you have one around
I'm interested in a dev board, with all electronics placed compact on the board
So it would be small and I can extend the keys with wires
Basically allowing full modding capabilities... ( I need my esc key right above ~ , can't live without that )
Ok, what about pitching some new ideas ?
Who can help me with the right channel?
Delivered 1 hour ago, might as well get to it
https://kbdfans.com/products/kbdfans-tofu-60-aluminum-case?variant=34250632691851 KBDfans just restocked aluminium cases in e-white color. $88, LOVEKBDFANS code for $5 off
I’m surprised the restock didn’t sell out fast
probs cuz no one was expecting / waiting on a restock to happen so they bought alternatives
yea I get that but read that a lot of people had notifs on for it, its sold out now
It wasn't a restock from what support told me. They just had a few extras. It's a discontinued item.
damn.. missed this.. so mad
yea they are discontinued, I was just going off what the notification said that it was back in stock on website mb
Looks like
Good shit, gonna get it on the board then
Oh sure enough - I didn't spot that it didn't go through the middle piece there.
not on top of it ... so place the piece , push it to the bottom and you will see the space to insert the metal
It should weave in between both pieces*
Obligatory @opaque basin ping to make sure they see it 😄
Films help your stem wobble?
That bad? how thick of film u using
Ive never found films to affect stem wobble for me but havent tried on the lekker switches because of the tight tolerances
films can help with stem wobble if the top housing is causing it by being loosely attached to the bottom
which does not happen in Lekkers
Makes sense. Lubing those switches will help a ton. It wont exactly reduce the wobble but it will reduce the sound/feel of the wobble
anyone know of any blank clear keycaps that fit these switches/
how much... if you're selling it?
Heh, I don't think I'll be selling this one. Just finished the second polish yesterday. It's a light rose gold but it's hard to tell in the photos. Weight is just over 7.5lbs
How much for the view though
the psd60 works fine for the he60 @fresh jackal, overall quality is good, looks like a solid tofu60 clone/alternativ
Poseidon PSD60 Aluminium Case Pls pay attention: Only Including Case, not including other things, especially not including keycaps or PCB. This PSD60 case can support most GH60 PCBs such as Satan60\XD64\BM60 and so on. Dimension - around 29 x 12 x 2 (front height) cm [ back height - 3 cm]
should be the same
kprepublic just leaves out the backside which is branded pretty big, may not suites everybodys taste
(its only shown for the white version where the branding is only visible if you know it is there)
@onyx stream @granite spruce
@tawdry ivy
nice, gives a good 6 degree option
so now you got freebird60 for 5 degree, poseidon 6 degree, tofu/fjell/klippe t 8
@rose echo the view costs a bit more lol
Looks good dude! How do the standoffs fit on the case?
Are all gateron switches the same size and the internals are different? Ie Is the g pro the same dimensions as the Lekker?
I used the original foam from the he60, standoffs with threads fit perfectly, the ones on the side dont seem to touch anything on the PCB. Went full risk and just screwed it tight without measuring for to long. Works fine.
Sick! Glad I pulled the trigger - I've got a couple case options now after @regal hound gracious offer to buy some dead stock! Giving my boy a shout-out as a referral to anyone whose considering a purchase from him.
Haha thanks, my supply is dwindling (Ive sold 3 cases to other members here who were struggling to find one) but I do have some new cases Im testing this week. I have a Baldr60 arriving Wednesday that I want to try. Ive seen 2 others do it so Im sure it works, just want to verify and then get it added to the list.
Who's putting the wooting in a fjell?
I have mine in a Fjell currently, no issues
I wanted to get black Maze64, but unfortunately their support told me, that there are no planned restocks in the near future
and im not sure if i wanna try and bother with buying white one to mess it up by spray painting it. Klippe and Fjell end up costing almost twice the original cost for me in eu so that is not an option either. Might just go for the PSD60 now, that the compatibility is confirmed thanks to @deep pier
.
that was also my way of thinking. freebird60 für nearly 135€ for EU is insane, Klippe and Fjell are out of range for a side-hobby.
65€ for the psd60 with a voucher was a snack, shipping was free and fast, overall a good deal for a solid case in my eyes. Even ditched a tofu60 in black for it.
er freebird60 isn't 135
you may have clicked the full kit instead of case only
or is shipping still super high in eu?
62€ shipping. Nearly fell of my chair while ordering it.
its 140€ total which is insane in my eyes considering that half the price is for shipping which is free from China but hugely expensive from all around the world apparently
yeah, its a shame since its a really nice case
Might be the God case for wooting. I want a Fjell period
Just casually living on a mountain😂😂
Well on the side of one haha
exactly the same reasoning for here in Aus. a lot of keyboard brands / sites are US based so anything that isn't ali express ends up at ridiculous prices
just wondering if standoffs come with the psd60?
I am not sure if i understand your question right. But you can unscrew the 5 wooting screws and screw everything together in the psd60 again without adding anything additionally.
No. Beside a screwdriver if you dont have a small one
I didnt search for one but i doubt it
If you tell me what you need, i can record some typing
hey mate did you get to check where the side standoffs sit on the pcb? is it definitely not hitting anything?
could u record some typing? that would be great
Checked by eye and took the risk. Works like a charm. Until now.
If you remind me in 10h yes
so it stopped working?
No. My english isnt the best. It works fine.
ahhh, okay.
the correct way to word it would be "for now."
"until now." implies that something has changed :)
Good to know, thank you :)
Hello,
can somebody tell me if (one) these cases fit the wooting 60he?
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005003496108231.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2deu
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005002034936306.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2deu
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005003275396680.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2deu
thx in advance
seems like all would be OK - but you need to be careful about extra standoffs... you might break your pcb
Well there you have it.
Im not that deep into customization, what exactly do u mean? do I need to buy some extra standoffs or does wooting not even include them? which one would be good?
It's more the opposite.
Third party cases having standoff pegs that the 60HE case does not - And thus the PCB you're putting into the custom case doesn't account for.
Or in other words - Standoff not supposed to be there, poke into PCB and kill it.
oh oky, thx a lot!
Could you do the honours? Thanks
Could you remind me in 2h again? Still busy, sorry :/
Yea sure 👍
@turbid robin maybe its easier explained with a photo. The Wooting PCB has holes matched to the DZ60/poker standard layout. If youre looking at a case that has standoffs in location other than what you see in this photo, it's probably a bad idea (unless the standoffs can be removed). Youll notice there are mount points on the left ands right side and then 4 standoffs in the open area located near the upper left and right corner, in the center and to the right of the spacebar.
Wtf are standoffs, sorry yes I am dumb
Ik its those cylinder thingies
But what am I meant to do exactly
They are the little metal posts that the screws will screw in to
What is their purpose?
Yes, youll remove the screws from the wooting and use them with the new case OR if you buy a new case it comes with screws usually.
The wooting doesnt utilize the middle/center standoff in those aftermarket cases but it has the mounting hole there if your new case has a middle standoff and you want to use it.
DO yall have some other wrist rest alternatives besides wooting wrist rest
Like where can I find 60% keyboard wrist rests
I'm not associated with wooting, just a keyboard enthusiast and a wooting owner/fan. You can get 60% wrist rests lots of places. The wooting one is 295mm wide and 300mm wide is standard 60% width for wrist rests so keep that in mind and you should be fine.
honestly wooting wrist rest is insanely nice though, if you need one anyway i'd highly recommend one
it's got this nice soft but firm feeling texture from the silicon
I dont have a wooting wrist yet but actually bought one last night from someone and itll be here next week so I'll provide my feedback. I currently just use a wooden one that I picked up somewhere
Big mousepad, PSD60 with rubber feet, he60 case foam, all 5 screws used, pbt wooting keycaps, unlubed switches and stabs (comes later, no time at the moment). Mic is a rode podmic. 4-5 cm distance. Clicking at the beginning was a razer pro v2.
Youll be amazed at how much lubing will help. Sounds like it has some good potential!
Thanks
got everything here but no time at all. Project for the next holidays
where did you get the strap from
Amazon
High-quality, Polypropylene webbing strap. Heavy Duty and Hard Wearing. Strong, tightly-woven, flat fabric designed to have abrasion- and water-resistance with high breaking strength. Ideal for pet leads, tow ropes, cargo straps, luggage and bags. Also works great for durable accessories such as ...
it's perfect for me xD
melgeek mojo60 on sale atm
for anyone interested
I just bought a resin case from them. hopefully it's an easy swap
standoffs look fine
ok I can definitely say that lubing + tape are making so much sound difference on the wooting base
feels like butter
unsure
@wanton forum but the resin case is $59 without taxes/shipping and stuff like alopow etc is $80+
I know @regal hound used the mojo60 so maybe he has some thoughts
The mojo60 is a drop in replacement case, no modding needed and works great. I do know its only on sale on the US site it seems. Buying from them through their aliexpress store is about $$50 more expensive for some reason so that's opposite of how it usually is lol. I'd say take advantage while they are on sale if you like the look. Its one of the few rounded corner cases that has great finishing and weight. I havent verified but it feels much heavier than the Tofu for example.
Yeah just looked it up, the Tofu is 760grams and the mojo is 1000grams. For comparison the Klippe case is also 1000grams roughly so the melgeek is solid.
ah jeez.
I decided to go resin instead of the aluminium
sounds like the alum is quality @regal hound
I didn't like the light purple 😭
damn. now I'm second guessing it. I could have potentially cerakoted
Lube + tape mod done, key caps changed Next step, artisan koi carp space bar + esc button, aluminium white or silver case. Think I'll have a pretty clean board with that!
Is any cable over 2m too long to power the board with RGB on 100% and Taychon enabled?
Only one way to find out.
Facts, but I don't currently have one
Using a 1,5m Pro Straight Cable from CableMod with an aviator, no issues
But I need a longer one..
Does the Wooting come with a cable? is that too long?
I'm using a 6" coiled 4.5ft cablemod cable with aviator as well and also have no issues with tacyon mode
Yep. We include a 6ft cable.
So 6ft with an aviator shouldn't be an issue?
how far is your PC? 6 feet is so long IMO. You have your PC on the other side of the room?
Nah, just need more length for cable management
How does more cable help? Less cable is needed for cable management. I find 3-4 feet is max
Depends on the way the cable has to run. In my case I need like 20-30 cm more to be able to hide the cable properly under the desk
Makes sense. I always try to have little cable as possible. Better performance. Longer cables are worse in many ways
I was going to say if there's a wireless mod.. i'm down
I have a qk75 and it's wireless. so nice wireless
Fjell aquamarine and copper keycaps. New build coming soon!
My god.. the fjell is more expensive than the Wooting lol. So nice
Surprised you don’t have an Artisan mouse pad for your set up
Baller
looks great
Why does your GPX look so chunky lmao
Thanks
I got the purple resin. excited c:
That purple will look good. It's probably not a popular opinion but I prefer the sound of acrylic and resin cases over aluminum most of the time. The only way I got this Fjell to sound good (to me) is using polyfill instead of foam
I did get a Baldr60 in today that I'm looking forward to trying out though.
ooo is it the b-stock
No, It's an a-stock one I got it from a local friend today.
Pics whenever ur done! Case looks dope
Can't wait for the new build - that ones sick
My Poseidon came in today - not the PSD60 but uses the same standoff pattern (new to the hobby don't know all the terminology yet 😅) - this one is called "the defender" sending pictures soo
Yeah I really like the weight
Not yet! But it will soon, haven't tracked since this morning - brb
Oh I just checked, tracking says Monday...
Confirmed - took me a second, the same time I went to check tracking I got a text about fraudulent transactions to my citi bank cc
Hahah it's not surprising after the weird day I've had, par for the course
I finally got a Frog Mini and I'm having POM plate made for it with the file you made. Thanks for sharing it 😄
Let me know how it goes! I just placed an order for an aluminum plate. Oh and dont forget about the standoff screws
I got some m2 hex standoffs and some washers so I can fine tune the thickness of it. Worked pretty well when I used them for the Poseidon 60 gasket build
imma send a pic one sec
this is the flex/bounce I get on alu in the PSD60 Gasket case
no tape or PE foam, just plate foam
That looks nice! Maybe as the technology advances you'll be able to have that kind of flex without it affecting faster switch activations.
It really doesn't affect the actuations
the space between the plate and pcb remains constant with the standoffs keeping them together
@nocturne bluff they are showing in stock for me? i just ordered one on accident kinda cuz i thought they were gonna be out of stock lmao
Mine shipped. I think they have a bunch
Thye might have made another run since the hype lately. Sold out everywhere
I had like 3 friends buy them this week
All for Wooting lol
L O L
It's out of stock now, yoinked that last one
@nocturne bluff Any idea if you need extra foam or things like that with the case? 🙂
I’m using my Wooting foam so I don’t waste it.
There’s tons of options. Watch BadSeed mod of Wooting
Wooting foam fits fine tho?
I have hella foam from my other keyboards
Yeah
Just some cutting
I’m using burger Mount. Bought o rings for the tofu
4mm
I saw that those are like 4bucks for a pack - im a keyboard noob - i am still tryna even fully understand where those go LMAOO
Just where the screws. Basically cushion the pcb to the case. Like bouncing on the screw mounts
... theres too many keycap options.. i am sick
get all of them 🙈 🙏
mind pinging me when the plate arrives and you test if it works? I'm also considering getting frog mini for my wooting, but want to have a confirmation first
I'm having trouble understanding how the PCB and plate are attached with a gap between them and both be able to flex without it causing issues a shift between the plate and PCB of at least some degree.
the standoffs are distributed in the middle and the edge, so both the pcb and plate flex to the same degree
basically linked into one solid object
I'd be interested in comparing sound tests - I have my wooting inside a Baldr too
@fierce pagoda What are you using for dampening? Fiberfill has been my go to lately as the lekker switches are fairly quite and with the PCB and plate tightly sandwiched together with foam between them, it's already a fairly muted experience. I find that adding case foam to these solid/heavy aluminum cases doesnt sound enjoyable to me.
Spacebar needs a little work but here is in an aluminum case with polyfill
Pollyfill currently as dampening, with a gummy O ring to friction fit the whole PCB/Plate into the case
The PCB sits on some 3mm sorbothane strips I put in the corners
Ahh ok, I remember seeing your post from earlier about the gummy o-ring mounting. I think you said the standoffs kept falling out?
The friction fit actually works spectacularly as I had to push it fairly hard to get it to sit right
Yeah, the brass standoffs that came with my baldr wouldnt sit in tightly
Here you go
Oh right, I also taped the PCB and lubed the lekker switches
Just based on that, I'm guessing the sound will be similar as the tone in both of our recording is close the only difference is in the higher pitch of the aluminum case. Ill swap it over today and see get back to you
For sure. I think you'll be really pleased with how the spacebar sounds in the class case
How hard would it be to add a daughter board to swap the usb-c location - asking for a friend
If you have to ask, you're probably not ready for it.
You would have to have a lot of experience with soldering USB headers (small, lots of pins) off, then figuring out a way to extend it with a flex cable or something similar into a daughterboard - in a custom case, because it ain't gonna fit in the 60HE case.
And of course you'd be voiding the warranty immediately for that 😄

what acrylic/clear cases work with the keyboard? I got POM Jelly keycaps and i’m lookin for a fully frosted board once it arrives
Quite a few but finding them is the problem. I know that Tofu60, Bladr60 and Klippe all have/had a clear polycarbonate/acrylic/glass case option.

What are you using for stabilizers - I'm privy to a chunky clack. The recording you made is similar to what I want but with a sharper clack at the top-end
Or rather the bottom-end between keystrokes
Out of curiosity does anyone who ordered a fjell or klippe t remember how long it took for it to be delivered? When ordering it says up to three months. I'm just curious if it normally takes that long or if it is delivered before the 3 month mark at times.
I checked the Mekanisk discord and it looks like they are now out of stock and it appears its going to take months to get more in.
I had to use the Wooting clip ins, I only have screw in stabs! I think they're pretty good, but I had to holee mod them to get the click to go away
Thank you! I ordered a little over a month ago. But was just trying to plan ahead when everything was going to arrive and was curious of the average wait time
I heard the wooting clip in stabs are pretty good
Why did they do clip ins over screw ins? Interfere with the magnets?
The stock stabs are the same quality as durocks as far as I can tell.
Yeah that's been my experience as well. Swapped mine with white durocks for the hell of it and can't tell the difference
What keycaps are these ?
This is this set, the quality is good, not insane but for Japanese keycaps this is a great option !
@fresh jackal same experience. I actually swapped all mine to clear durocks but ended up swapping the spacebar stab back to the stock stabs because it sounded better to me. A visual comparison between the two looked like they were the exact same so both probably made by the same manufacturer.
I think people tend to get caught up buying stuff to "upgrade" without first giving it a chance.
what key caps does everyone reccomend for wooting 60he?
way too many for recommends, gotta find what you love
@gusty tiger wheres a good place to start?
What keyboard do you have now? If you like the feel/height of what you're used to, start with that but otherwise stick to OEM or Cherry profile
Others will work, those are just the safe bets
i was using g915 tkl but now have the wooting 60he
That uses a low profile keycap, I don't think that will work for you on the wooting. Are you just looking to change the look or also the feel?
@regal hound honestly just for looks
Then yeah go find almost any cherry or OEM profile caps you like and you'll be good.
theres sooo many sites @glacial helm
Any recommendations on translucent 60 case that can be bought within the EU?
Cherry profile, but if you want the deepest sound profile, SA Keycaps, would recommend signature plastics SA caps as they're quality
SA Caps are tall profile Keycaps, fyi
Which dampening foam do you guys recommend for the 60HE?
It has foam already inside
I will swap the case for a MAZE64. Does the original foam fit?
Did you by any chance find a place that has black one in stock? Or are you getting the white one?
Nope, I already got the white one. White fits my setup better. Black seems to be out of stock everywhere in Europe at least.
Thanks, I have tried to look everywhere and even asked mechjunkies support with no luck of restock of the black one any time soon. I was just wondering, if a few pieces of the black one appeared out of nowhere as it still happens once in a while with tofu. The last time i saw the black one in stock in EU was last week of december/first week of january.
I was happy that i found the white MAZE64 in stock on the mechjunkie webshop. Tried finding a Tofu60 but it seems to be discontinued and out of stock in every Eu Store. MAZE64 was the next best thing i guess. The Aliexpress cases seem to be a good choice as well.
I'll either get PSD60 as a very cheap and pretty solid tofu alternative or try to spraypaint the white maze64, not sure if its worth the risk tho
(i have close to none experince with spraypainting metal), could get 2 PSD60 for the same price.
Freebird60 shipment is due next month too so there’s another option
I would recommend the PSD60 or Freebird60. Spraypainting the maze64 is not worth it imo. The finish of the maze64 is ok but i had a few scuff marks from the plate inside.
EU shipping and VAT is insanely expensive even for freebird, iirc
Are you only interested in a black case? If odd colors are an option too, maxgaming has a few 60% cases in stock
I am mainly looking for a black one yea, I think the last time i check maxgaming they had maybe like one or two pieces of each the pink and dark gray tofu60 from the aluminium ones
lemme check it again
I saw cyan, orange and purple aluminum cases from kbdfans in stock on their site a while ago
There is a bunch of 65% cases, but from the 60% ones only plastic cases or completely flat aluminium cases with basically no border are left
Well the PSD60 or GH60 seems to be your only options than i guess
Yeah, I am probably just overthinking it way too much
Getting keyboard accessories in EU is a nightmare. Probably because the market is way smaller than US. I am still trying to find a GMK ISO DE Keycap set and i can't find on in stock nor an on-going group buy.
Oh yeah, definitely. I have tried only some budget keycap sets from aliexpress so far, was thinking about getting KBD Fans WOB for the upcoming build, to try something that should be a little better in terms of quality/thickness/consistency in font.
Anyone know if you can use the original 60he foam on freebird60?
The cutouts on the foam seem like they are in almost identical spots, you could always make another hole. No idea if the standoffs/usb port are the same height as in the base wooting case.
Preciate 👍
Last time i tried to fit way too much foam into a case i cracked all of the standoffs
, but that was a plastic case.
The ones on the sides and the big ones that look like a plus seemed close enough
yikes haha
I ended up cutting them all off and just pressure fitting the plate in the case and it somehow doesn't fall out even without a gummy o ring mod, I guess the case was warped or something (RK84)
I’d probably sell this for the right price if someone is interested
Take a deeper look at the psd60, pretty solid quality, cheap and free shipping in 15 days to europe and the foam can be reused with one small cut. Beside the branding, its a clean case and available in multiple colours.
Still no problems since the day you got it i'd assume? The price point on it is just too good to not to try it compared to other options
No problems, works smoothly.
Great, thanks. I should wait much longer if i want to have all the parts ready before my wooting arrives, should be here in about a 4 to 5 weeks
I remember you wanted to lube it and stuff, are you planning the o ring mod aswell?
If i ever find the time, maybe.
Here is a quick comparison of a few cases if anyone is interested. Left to right top row: Mekanisk Klippe, Mekanisk Fjell
middle row: Baldr60, Tofu60
bottom row: Freebird 60, Melgeek Mojo60
Nice. So, which case or cases do you like best?
approximately the final look of my modded wooting 60he, I'm waiting for the PSD60 case which is coming in 3 weeks. I've lubed the switches and stabs, tape modded the pcb and let the original foam. Japanese keycaps set and koi carp artisan keys for the look and it really do look awesome for me! Here's a soundtest with the original case, i'll do another one when the PSD60 will come by!
No optimal settings for the sound sorry!
Is there a consensus on filming the switches? Is there a big difference in sound/feel?
No idea but I'm interested in the answer too
bro is collecting cases like pokemon
And that's after selling 3 to other members so far. I'll probably narrow it down to 2-3 by the end of the month. I'm pretty much done experimenting.
@tight siren got a POM plate made for my Frog. Gonna be live with the build soon
yooo! let me know how it goes! but i notice there arent any countersunk holes for the standoffs
I think it's cuz this was Laser cut. I got a drill to get it going
hoping it works
I think this'll work easier than what I did with an alu plate
I got some KBDfans standoffs coming in
I'm only putting in 6 of the standoffs though
the pairs in either side and the middle
Are cheaper keycaps from Aliexpress noticeably worse?
This may be a controversial take, but IMO, as long as you stick to PBT - virtually all keycaps are of the same quality. It is a defined material with a set formula that is easily replicated, coloring is done through the actual plastic not a coating, so there is no point of difference there as opposed to ABS where some keycaps might use a more "premium" paint or coating or amount of layers. The mold's are also a point of virtually no difference, keycaps do not need insane micron tolerances and no human being would be able to tell the difference (if there even is any) between a premium or cheap molded keycap.
I think with expensive keycaps you pay the tax of it being uniquely designed (until a chinese copy arrives a week later on ali express), and the price of a small batch size to create scarcity but also cover the costs for the machinery used. These ali express keycaps exploit economies of sale and mitigate that tax by not worrying about scarcity and instead selling it at a very modest margin.
Exactly what I thought, thank you for such a well thought out reply 🙂
no problem :)
Buy GMK
I'll offer a slightly different opinion. Keycap quality, regardless of plastic type can be defined in a number of ways. Low quality vs high quality legends for example may not be as clear/clean, may not have as consistent spacing or leveling and might bleed a bit. Low quality keycaps might not be as thick, using less plastic, which results in a sound profile that's a little louder. The stems might not be as firm and fit as tight because lower quality caps can have lower tolerances. For example, one of the biggest issues with low quality PBT keycaps is that the spacebars will occasionally be warped and cause issues.
Are any of those things worth paying 4x as much? That's a decision only you can make.
nope - maybe you can take the upper stock foam off and squish... but it doesn't fit comfortably
buy GMK if you want to wait a year and pay 8x the price just for the wasd keycaps to end up shining 💀
nah - not 8x but probably almost 2x for good keycaps
if you compare aliexpress 20$ ones - yeah sure
@dim bone why would you shine your WASD keys? Any real gamer would have Damascus cast WASD keys -
Beskar keycaps. Neat
This is the way...
anyone have idea would this case work for 60he https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/32850781312.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2vnm
At first glance it looks like it would fit. But you'd want to take a moment to compare standoff locations.
Namely, since our PCBA has mission critical components on the underside, one poorly placed extra standoff can murder our PCBA
Says it fits GH60 so should be fine
what case is this?
@fresh jackal I did actually buy some of those damascus WASD keys. They were a 24hour raffle/fulfillment earlier this week. The artisan maker is very reputable so I believe they will turn out great.
anyone here selling their dark grey tofu60?
@hazy sentinel that looks like a Freebird60 if I had to guess just based on that photo. I've got a black one too and it looks like the same.
@regal hound if you're trying to tag me then it's the wrong person you're tagging lol
Oh damn, thanks haha
I'm not a fan of the freebird 60
I don't like the curved edges
It's not really curved, it's just got a little beveling on it.
yeah I'm not looking for the beveling
But if you want sharp corners then the Tofu60 is a great choice.
It's almost impossible to find one in any color. They are discontinued
I managed to find alot of sellers for different colours on reddit
Specifications Size 60% keyboard Compatibility 60% poker / tray mount Weight Approx. 1 kg Screw size M2x5mm Material Aircraft-grade aluminium In the box Klippe T Keyboard Chassis with all mounting hardware and pre-installed viewfinder bumpons High-quality packaging Finish The keyboard can have anodizing hook marks on t
They have them in grey but stock goes in and out and ship times vary.
also alot more than I wanted to pay for just a case
check the psd60, beside the branding, its basically a tofu60
yeah the branding upset me
you reckon there's a way to hide it/ fill it in?
As someone who has sold 4 Tofu60 cases to people in this discord, finding them used for less than $100 shipped is rare and the longer they stay discontinued the more expensive they get.
its directed towards my display, so i dont see it at all. Besides that, its not as present as it looks like in the pictures. I could imagine that a handy craftsman could fill it, but if you ever get the colours right? i doubt it...
You would spend more than just buying the Klippe honestly. Plus the Klippe is a hell of a nice case offering advantages over the Tofu. It's heavier, by a lot, has removable middle standoffs and outside mounting tabs so that you can gummy o-ring mount the wooting instead of plate mount.
finding lower cost options going to be a bit tough, shipping for cases is expensive from basically every vendor except chinese aliexpress vendors
even the local ones seeing a $30+ shipping charge is fairly normal
that was my reasoning for psd60>freebird
you basically get two psd60 or one freebird.
yeah i'm not sure any low cost options besides psd60 exist really, although freebird is 'cheap' if local but even US shipping isn't super cheap
although i think you get free shipping just for the us folks
why is the klippe t so expensive?
Will the PSD60 make the keyboard sound drastically different to a tofu or a Klippe?
It shouldn’t
This is my first custom keyboard endeavour so I'm clueless, Ty for all the advice

They are all similar in weight/size. The PSD60 has rounded corners which you didn't want.
I thought you said Klippe is heavier by alot?
Compared to the Tofu and Freebird yes it is. It's closer to the PSD60 in weight though.
ah kk
so psd60 is heavier than the tofu?
Idm the bezels as much on this as the freebird
Freebird60 = 594g
Tofu60 = 760g
Klippe = 1000g (approx)
Honestly I’m not even really seeing much difference between psd and freebird bevel
They are very similar
Isn’t the branding on psd only on the back anyway? You wouldn’t even be able to see it yourself
freebird bezel is more flat, whereas psd is more rounded, and a tad less accentuated (as far as I can tell)
freebird:
psd:
the bevel on the psd60 is smaller and less visible compared to the freebird i would say just by comparing it to the pictures
its less than 1mm on the psd60 i would estimate and freebird looks like its a little more
I'm a little confused Tirade you said your going to gummy o-ring mod your wooting? Doesn't the PCB have to have specific cut outs for that mod to work correctly?
Frog Mini and 60HE are finally together in one board.
Now, to edit the build video lol
damn, that is awesome to hear. can you confirm the USB port sits in the correct spot and there's no need to worry about it?
@Hunter#3970 it works fine for me by using a slightly larger o-ring and friction fitting it into the Klippe. Its tight and not going anywhere.
perfect, thank you. now I gotta get myself a Frog Mini I guess haha
Got a POM plate for mine
but I'm thinking of going for CF
POM reflects the RGB so well though
Did you countersink the plate to PCB screw holes and thread them?
I used some M2 standoff nuts to secure the plate and PCB together
Same with the previous build
in the PSD60 gasket
Guess that works too
the screws don't have to be flush to the plate though
I'm getting 0 intereference with my caps
I'm looking forward to the build video!
Gasket mounting it in the PSD60 lends to a sound similar to an AI03 Polaris
needs all foams though
cuz the case is a bit resonant
Does EnjoyPBT have a website? can't seem to find it
case?
@regal hound what oring did you use if you don't mind me asking?
I used a spare o-ring from the parallel Portal I have. They sell extras - https://parallel.limited/products/o-ring
Parallel O-Rings vary based on hardness. Hardness is inversely correlated to “bounciness” or “feel” of typing on the keyboard, allowing for deep customization of your typing experience. These O-rings can be used with Parallel 65% keyboards, such as Sequence & Portal, as well as a few other custom boards.
Cool thank you! I will have to order some. I want to try my gummy o-ring from thock pop too. I'm curious to try as many mods as I can and see how it will change the wootings sound
I'm really happy with the sound and look I'm at. Friction fitting with an o-ring was the final piece. The inevitable hollow sound from the switches near the screw points was bugging me and even burger mounting didn't resolve it as much as I liked.
any keycap sets similar to the Clear 2048 sets?
Any colour idm
Or anywhere else that sells them instock
If you can wait a bit the PBTfans Pyga set will be back in stock in March I've been told.
I want to know if the Freebird 60 and Tofu 60 would have similar sounds
if anyone does
LOL. I dont have a dog in the fight so the truth is that to my ears the Tofu and Freebird are very similar. I think all of the sub 1kg weight aluminum cases sound the same (as they should). I firmly believe the biggest sound difference with those cases is the dampening choice you make. For the cost of like $5 I use polyester fiberfill and prefer it over foam and silicone and I have foam in multiple different thickness and material so Ive tried a lot.
I think you start to notice a different sound profile in the much heavier cases, like the Fjell or Mojo60, or when you move to acrylic/polycarbonate or glass cases like the Baldr60
Also, because what sounds good is subjective and different for each person, you may hate the sound of fiberfill and love a thick foam pad. Also your keycap profile changes things up even further, so there is no right or wrong.
thank you! i was just wondering if they were both similar because i cant find a tofu 60 so i was gonna get a fb 60. i heard the tofu 60 and thought it sounded nice so with everything kept the same ill go fb
would the o rings affect the lekker switch tho? do i not put them
if you want tofu, take a look at psd60. Good clone besides the branding
anybody have any idea of similar keycaps to GMK Lavender Rabenda? they look p dope
@carmine timber these close enough? https://cannonkeys.com/products/nicepbt-elderberry
Interesting. Ive never been a huge fan of the fiberfill sound on other boards. I'm curious how it will sound on the wooting. Out of curiosity what didn't you like about the foam on your current build? Also I'm interested in your opinion of different foams. For example EVA foam from stupid fish vs something like zip-fit, or PE foam. Or even the original foam that comes stock @regal hound
Haha also sorry to at you so much today! I'm just curious to pick your brain because I don't have my wooting in hand and I am eager to get working on it when it arrives 😁
No worries, I work in front of a PC so I'm online most of the day anyway and don't mind answering. The problem with explaining why I did and didn't like a particular sound is purely subjective and like I said earlier, what sounds good to me might not sound good to you or it might not sound good to me in say an aluminum case but might sound great in an acrylic case, etc etc. Give me a min though and I'll send you a pic.
Haha that's completely fair! A big part of the fun of keyboards is finding what works for you and not everyone else! And that's my plan to try alot of different changes to find what I enjoy. Just asking out of my own curiosity 🙂. Like watching a review on a build. I may not agree with the reviewers opinions. But it's nice to have food for thought when adding your own mods in and seeing how they sound 😁
I've also found I watch reviews and they notice things that I would have never even thought of haha.
I'm addition to the stock foam, these are the 4 I tested over the last few weeks. Top one is the stupid fish foam (EVA), next is packing foam, next is PE foam (same type of foam that comes in the stock case) and the bottom is silicone.
Here is my honest opinion. Once you move to an aftermarket solid case, lube the Lekker switches and throw on some decent keycaps, the 60HE is fairly muted/neutral in both sound and feel. It's not a board made for those things though. Adding foam reduces sounds even more and that's not what I want. Some foams reduce lower frequencies better, some reduce higher frequencies better. Ultimately you have to try it out for yourself and on your case. I prefer no foam and no tape mod. In fact my board is stock with the exception of using a gummy o-ring currently to friction fit the PCB into the case to avoid plate mounting it because that creates dead/hollow sounds on the keys near the mounting points.
Thank you for sharing! I have alot of friends who avoid most foam because they feel the same! They dislike how foam, and especially PE foam and tape mod can make most boards start to sound similar. I've always avoided plate foam for that same reason. But my last build I ended up using it because I couldn't get past the hollowness of the board. Thanks for sharing your findings man. It definitely gives good food for thought when I can finally get my hands on my wooting!
kdbfans aluminum e white 60
Preciate
Nice!
In the process of trying to eliminate the pinging sounds i was hearing in the lekker switches, i've somehow lubed them into sounding like silent switches without feeling mushy
Now I'm not sure if I should keep it this way or try and chase the dragon of better sound
So im about to get my new 60He soon and i saw a YT vid which i fell in loveeee with since he made the board somehow sound better lol he lubed stuff which i plan on doing but the main thing is he used a Tofu case. They dont sell those anymore soooo does anyone know of any other good cases that are aluminum? (Im saying aluminum as i believe thats how he got it to sounds so good). I can maybe link the video if its allowed later on at some point if anyone wants to see what i mean but atm just trying to find another way to do what he did.
Check the sticky in the channel for a list of keyboards.
Alright thanks, now follow up question lmao best case for this keyboard on that list would beee?
If you want the closest thing to a Tofu, the Klippe T.
@regal houndAny idea if the Green Klippe is the same green as the Fjell?
@gusty tiger You mean the ultraforest color? if so then yes, they are the same but its my understanding that there was a QA problem with that color on the Fjell and they havent sold any in that color yet. This is what the color looks like though
And the 60He fits in that?
Yes
Hmm
Looks good quality
In stock too, not sold out
Think id do an all white
Drop brand white keycaps
Could even go with wootings too
@slim pond I'm pretty sure they are all sold out atm, there is a pop up saying it'll be a month or longer and I think its closer to 3 months (according to their discord)
Hmm i mean i wouldnt mind waitong, got like 2 months on the wooting anyway tbh
Just wanna make sure thats what id do forst, expensive step lmao
All white looks good, just keep those cheeto fingers off of it!
Lmao i never eat near her. Can i link videos in here?
yes
https://youtu.be/7qAVPhI9siA this is the video im referring to. Made me fall in love with changing the case and everything lmao

For your very own funky ad or any business in...
Yeah that looks great! I have a white klippe and white tofu60 that I'm sitting on trying to decide if I want to build them out or sell them. I love white but hate trying to keep them clean...
Not the cases so much as the keycaps
I mean hehe maybe im buying 🤣🤣 jk jk lol you could make like $500 off the tofu alone
And keycaps for sure def suck to clean but i mean once every week alcohol it up shes clean a s a whistle
And have you used both klippe and tofu typing and if so which sound is better?
I have used both, and have about 8 cases right now including the Fjell as well. I think the Tofu and Klippe are very similar but the heavier weight of the Klippe is noticeable and just "feels" nicer, but it does cost more, even if you're buying from someone like me. Does it feel $60 nicer? Thats up to you lol
anyone know of a keycap set for the 60% that will show all the fn keys like 1-0 has f1-12 type deal
yeah something along those lines
im thinking of just getting the wooting two. but i really like the smaller keyboard. but I use a numpad often also.
I need some help if anyone can oblige. I just got done modding my wooting 60he after using it for about 6-7 weeks, now my number "three" isnt working. I've tried changing the switch and thats not he problem. Is it possible that I've damaged the pcb when putting the switch in?
Unlikely. I'd start by doing a reset to make sure you didn't accidentally bind it something else. You can always go into wootility and do the key press test and see if it registers
This is the modding channel though and you might get better answers in the support channel
well, case swap done. ✅ peeled off the top layer of the wooting foam and poked a hole in it for the additional center standoff to make everything fit into the mojo60 np.
next up is just waiting for some new keycaps + the custom straight cable I ordered 🙂
I think I'd also just like to mention that I appreciate the wooting community for making what seemed to be a previously daunting foray into the custom keyboard community a lot more manageable lol. I realize it's not a true custom but it's been fun so far making it my own in small ways
Risking to sound repetitive: psd60 is basically a branded 1:1 clone of the tofu60
Those aren't clear are they?
just a heads up but that video kinda skims past most of the actual modding for the wooting
I noticed this too, and the Lekker sounds lends itself well to a Gasket mount over top/tadpole mount. But Imma get back to you on the Tadpole sounds as I start testing on different plate materials
It wont sound as good?
"1:1 clone" meaning they're saying it's basically the same in almost every way
I'd imagine that includes sound
:p
I seee, what about compared to the Klippe T?
Anyone have a Klippe T swapped 60He on here they could sound test for me? 😄
Thats what i figured
i think you might be overly worried about sound
all of those aluminium cases will sound so similar - it doesn't matter sound wise what you pick there
it's only if you go to a different material where it might be more different
tofu is only used by a lot because it was widely available and one of the cheapest for decent quality
pick whatever case you want that's compatible honestly - they're not going to really be worse than the tofu
Is there a case that looks like this and fits Wooting 60HE?https://web.archive.org/web/20180615050251/https://flashquark.com/product/gb-anne-pro-custom-anodized-aluminum-case/
i mean the shape
I mainly wanted one very close just because i loved the sound this one guy on YT made the Wooting sound like, was a tofu case
His sound is just default lubed wooting sound
You’ll get basically that same sound with every case
If anything the tofu would be worse ‘thocky’ sound than probably default plastic case, but most of us go for aluminium because it looks nicer
@slim pond lot to catch up on but I'll DM you
That's looking good man. Keep me posted on the Frog sound. I'm working on a side project to 3d print a gasket mount plate for the 60HE. Basically taking that Frog plate and adding tabs to it.
@abstract oracle yes just search for high profile aluminum case on AliExpress
I seeee
could someone here please tell me how to get rid of this horrid ping reverb echoing noise? it makes me want to throw my keyboard into the trash 🥲
only a few buttons have this ping oddly enough
Do people find lubing the stabilisers is enough or anyone swap them out, any people with experience can let me know be great :)
Swapped mine for durocks, no difference. My conclusion as a novice modder was that the stock ones are good enough that changing isn't going to do much.,
What i wanted to hear, just a bit more lube yeah?
I followed Calder's instructions in our 60HE lubing video. The "advanced" (more luber, more better) version and gave the stabs plenty of lube.
@fresh jackal When I get some time I'm going to make a FAQ to answer things like default stabs vs aftermarket, link to the case compatibility list, facts about keycaps, lubing, dampening and what affects the sound, etc etc. We could probably just refer people to the FAQ for 50% of the questions in here 😄
We have an #❔│faq , even used to have a bot with specific questions. But as Discord norms go, no one checks either 😄
@patent cargo How are you liking the frog mini so far?
@regal hound do you know of any keycaps like the 2048 clears? or where I could get some?
I dont unfortunately. Im waiting for a restock of the Hyga's which are similar but I dont know where to get anything clear. You could always check aliexpress
I'm considering getting a frog mini but I don't know what I should get for tadpole hardness and plate configuration so if you could give some recommendations for somebody who's looking for a softer feeling keyboard that would be greatly appreciated
The wooting fits in a frog mini? that's dope
Yea @patent cargo Has pictures of their board in the channel
hey boss, wondering what wrist rest you decided to go for. mojo60 has a unique rounded profile and I'm wondering what to buy for it lol
@carmine timber the great thing about the melgeek is that its only a 5% slope. I love it because it doesnt require a wrist rest IMO
The wooting wrist rest works with it though without an issue
do u have it on you? can you show the side by side
the wooting wrist rest + mojo60
I may still spring because I have the keyboard slightly elevated on a 60% mat
I'm too good to you guys!
I have these to put on it too
I love it.
I don’t use a wrist rest personally
Anyone here running Tofu cases? If so send some pics 😁
ur genuinely awesome, thanks for going out of your way lol
ooo these look great
coiled cables are to long overall for tachyon but generally should work with tachyon off or am i wrong?
My Tofu case came in today. Just need the wooting now... hate the wait
Lol what color did you get?
Just the white.. when they restocked on KDBfans last week
His setups nice
Niceee i love the white lol ordered the White keycaps off wooting
I would possibly sell my white tofu if someone was interested lolol
Ive got a few new cases to test coming in next week that will likely work and can be added to the list.
@gusty tiger Ive sold cases to 5 different users in here so if you want to sell it, I'm sure you can, but I think its preferred to keep it to DM's
I'm honestly just partly nervous to swap my wooting and also just have had a white ducky for years and was kinda ready for a new color a little but i guess if i just throw different caps on it shall be fine
How do you like the Klippe? I've been trying to find a case to swap my Wooting into and so far the Klippe has been my top choice but wanted to hear your thoughts before I pull the trigger on it
@gusty tiger nothing to be nervous about but if you need some help along the way just shoot me a DM.
@gentle sundial the Klippe and Fjell are currently my favorite alumninum cases. You can't go wrong with either, but like most nice cases they are currently out of stock.
yeah makes sense - I'm def not in a rush and it's my first time modding a keyboard so I'm pretty excited. The Klippe T just looks so clean lol. Thanks for the response!
twinning
good looks, ill probably take you up on this - i've just been a ducky queen(ima king) my whole life but 60he kinda made me expand a bit and wanted to feel the heavier metal case, thats why i was checkin out the fjell too
do you know the angles of the fjell tofu and wooting off top off of ur head @regal hound
7 degrees
wait all 3?
curious how you were able to transition to the freebird at all since isnt it 4?
thats what i thought too, i think im at 8 too right now with the higher legs on the ducky so im like hmm, i couldnt go down to 4% - thats the lower feet on my ducky and i couldn't ever do it lmao
Freebird60 is 5 degrees I'm pretty sure, same as the Mojo60
Anyone know if this case would work with the 60he? (Going with plastic because I'd like to start it out as a sleeper keyboard until I have the time and money to go full custom) https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=7168
I see that the standoffs are the same. Unsure about USB location and if the plastic walls inside would affect anything
Yes it would work
If anyone is interested, Mekanisk listed a new Fjell today. Unfinished raw Fjell
tks
The front height actually lets me use it without wristrest, unlike all the other case designs i've tried, and i'm really liking the feel of tadpole mount. Isolated top mount for a consistent feel, with a tiny bit of cushion in bottom out. Not a fan of the current plate though (pom). Too muted for my taste when paired with the Lekkers. Def gonna have a CF plate made.
What do you think of the stock plate if you've tried it?
Paramount Baka60
Durock plate mount stabs
(krytox 205g0 ofc for lube)
Fabric taped the stab holes/pcb/plate
Poron foam works with the switches and actually feels really good, sadly covers up pcb though
pretty sure you have to shave off some of the plastic on the inside to stop it from breaking the pcb
A new tool for teams & individuals that blends everyday work apps into one.
Is this a normal price for a keycap set? I thought blanks would be cheaper, but apparently not?
I know most keycap sets that are cost that, but I didn't expect blanks to be the same price
well it's epbt so you're probably paying that "popular manu tax"
but imo with blanks you should just aim for whatever is the cheapest
Aluminum is a really solid material to start things off with, but it's a Tsangan only plate and it didn't have plate mount cutouts so I couldn't use it. I like alu over pom, but my favorite would go to CF
You can look up YMDK for black caps. Might be a bit cheaper
Wait so you have to custom print a plate to match?
yup
Shouldn't the pcb be fine without the mounts?
the plate mount cutouts?
you kinda need it cuz the 60HE pcb has more pcb mount cutouts for stabs
So if I swap the stabs it'll be fine?
I'm a bit confused here as to why the plate wouldn't work
The Wooting 60HE only works with plate mount stabs
and is ANSI/ISO 6.25u spacebar layout
Mhm
The Frog mini stock plate is Tsangan 7u spacebar layout
Ah
and these cutouts are wayyyyy too big for plate mount stabs to sit on them
oh it wasn't my design, but imma reply to the message in this server
Here's the plate file
Wait I think I can cut this out at my shop
It'll be a bit rough but I can cam that

My skills actually coming in use
Any reason why you prefer carbon fiber to alu?
Alu has a more resonant sound to it, while CF is a more dry and glassy sound while being high pitched. That metallic ping can be annoying in certain builds
Kay I'll look for some carbon fiber plates
Ah shoot my machine doesn't cut holes that small I think
I'll probably have outsource a machine but it should be cheaper than buying a plate
Hehee
AliExpress customer support is hellish

@cobalt aurora fellow audio enjoyer?
yes, but I don't have anything extreme
Just a pair of Sennheiser IE300s + Some HD6XX (anyways #offtopic sry)
Nice ye, back on topic any have any cutters they recommended for CONUS?
does the o ring mod mess with the lekker switch + does anyone know if super lube is fine for bag lubing the springs?
O-Rings will limit how far down the switch can push. And it will make the signal fluctuate more up and down, since you're pushing down on a rubber cushion.
I just assembled my board with a fair amount of rubber, so I'm open to speaking on it, haha. I actually took the gaskets off of a set of Durock Daybreak switches to put onto the Lekker switches cause I like silence in my board. Additionally, I did the o-ring burger mount mod (basically an o-ring between the PCB and the case). I've found that it's extremely comfortable to type on, but as @fresh jackal said, it does cause some signal fluctuation issues. I can't have my switch set to deactivate at .1mm with the rapid trigger, otherwise pressing a key will sometimes result in it registering it 5-6 times. I found that the issue went away if I adjusted the rapid trigger to .3mm, but that's just my experience.
All in all, adding any sort of dampening to the board can result in some level of losing out on the features you paid for. Do I recommend doing what I did to my board? Absolutely not. Would I do it again? Absolutely.
I hate that when people talk o-ring and modding there is so much confusion on whether they mean o-rings for switches, o-rings for standoffs (aka burger mounting) or o-rings for friction fitting (which is sometimes a gummy o-ring but not always)
Not blaming the people, just the fact that there are so many o-rings use cases and someone who is new to the hobby who wants to learn often gets confused.
u right im new and dont wna mess up the switch cos i want the performance of it, but yeah
would o ring for standoffs affect the switch? i didn’t know about switch o rings but im talking about standoff o rings that would come with the FB 60 included
@delicate stream There is a popular youtube video going around that uses o-rings on the screws that attach to the standoff of their 60HE. They use 2 o-rings, 1 below the PCB and 1 above it, so sandwich the PCB between the o-rings to help isolate potential resonance from the case. See the red circles I drew on this picture. That being said, Ive seen at least 2 people say that doing this caused their keyboard to register multiple inputs at times. Ive also seen someone say tape modding did the same so maybe it was tape and not o-rings or maybe it was o-rings or not tape. In theory neither should cause a problem BUT there is always a chance. It might be people overtightening, undertightening, o-ring too thick, etc etc
oh i see thanks, with a video i saw i thought it was only between the mounting post and the PCB, thats what i was going to do but i didn’t know since the squishiness might mess with how fine tuned the switch is supposed to be. but i wouldn’t care as much for the sound if i couldn’t get what i wanted this keyboard for in the first place
You can do one just below the PCB as well, doing both isnt a requirement. In fact the stock screws arent ideally long enough to use 2 o-rings
ah bummer. I'll stick with the stock case until later down the line then
I did a little calling around to some of these keyboard shops and found some new old stock Tofu60 and 5° cases. The 5 degree case is a Tofu but with a 5 degree incline and squared corners. I'll test it this weekend and get it added to the list, but it's guaranteed to work, plus they have some cool colors like cyan and red
Same weight as the Tofu, which makes sense, they are both made by KBDfans. Just different typing angle and corners.
I ordered 7 of them so I'll keep you posted.
does any know if i can use any ducky one 2 mini 60% boards or does it have to be the Bon Voyage ?
I went and got some polyfill based on your posts here for my Tofu60.. $5 at walmart.. lol - did you smash it in there or just lightly fill it?
Trying to figure out what mods to bother with - honestly was thinking of just doing the case swap, burger mod, and polyfill.. Seems like BadSeed tech said he couldn't tell a huge difference with the tape mod, link starts right around the sound test and his thoughts.. What's your opinion?

Also, tape mod did nothing for me so I removed it.
So the 5 degree kbfans case will cause the pcb to be shifted to the left?
So a gap occurs on the right?
If I am understanding this correctly
Anyone have a picture of their 60HE in the FB60?
Tirade.. are you balling?
You have a tons of cases just for the wooting lol
The tofu cost me 189 CAD after duties/taxes. Wooting is 300 CAD plus w/e duties/taxes. This is costing me north of $500 after I get hit with duties/taxes on the wooting.
@regal hound per the compatible cases list it states that it shifts it to the left
You have 3mm of tolerance on the left and right combined for almost all of these case. So instead of having 1.5mm per side you may have 1.25mm on the left and 1.75mm on the right but you would never notice it. Its extremely slight
Oh okay. So it will be off center but only slightly
correct, just like .5mm enough to line up the USB port with the USB cutout in the case. Its very slight
Gotcha
Thank you
Any reason to avoid the 5 degree kbdfans case?
And look at a different one?
Doesn't seem I can get the tofu60, sold out
@nocturne bluff not ballin haha. I'm a keyboard enthusiast and 60% is my favored size. I have a bunch of 60% boards that arent the wooting. As for my recent case purchases, yeah I went overboard but Ive sold a lot of them to US members here at near the same costs as what they would pay for those cases retail with shipping and tax so it allows me to help the community a little. I'm sitting on 6x Tofu60's and 6x 5 degree and 3 Klippes right now that I could hold on to as demand continues to dry up and make a killing, but thats not the goal.
@serene pumice no reason to avoid, get whichever looks best to you or is most readily available
@regal hound thanks
what colour tofu60's?
Any favorites with the wooting? How are you liking the klippe? I just picked one up today and I'm hoping to build it after work. Any recommended mods?
I've done half a burger mount with o-rings below the PCB, feels ok and no weird inputs that I can tell at 1.0 mm actuation
@fleet bloom The Mekanisk cases are my favorite alumninum ones and as for mods I use polyfill instead of foam and I've been gummy o-ring friction fitting in the Klippe or Fjell since they have the extra tabs to support the o-ring.
had to peel off one layer of the stock wooting foam to make it fit in the mojo60. would u recommend polyfill instead, then? how does it change the sound profile if at all/much
I can't answer that for you but $5 gets you enough polyfill to do 50 keyboards so it's a cheap investment to try. I do prefer it on aluminum cases but you may not.
It's the same thing haha
Well unless you're old like me and have goose down or feathers in yours.
That's just how we do pillows and duvets here in Scandinavia. Gotta keep warm and fluffy.
Though the pillow I bought to fill up my 60HE case (which is very hollow compared to stock) is just some supposedly ESD safe polyester fluff. But I did cover the non-esd coated parts of the PCB just in case all the same 😄
Killing one PCB is as much as Wooting allows me on the yearly basis.
😂
Endgame.
Not sure what those are but it looks cool!
what size screws are recommended if se are go burger mount with silicone orings?
Probably want to verify the screw size with your case but M2*4 or 5mm usually works fine.
very cool i got the raw metal silver one
he spent money for those what pcbs are you running those two on
they are mice lmfaooo
tape mod is so slight but I think it sounds a lil deeper
lol
used masking tape. hopefully not difficult to remove later
HSK PRO 4K and M2K that I made a custom exoskeleton for 16g and 13g respectively
^
Thats super cool, whatd you make the exoskeleton out of?
Yea I do in my server
Someone pointed me here to inquire about switch o-rings to pad, silence, and slightly shorten the end of the key travel
Depending on what's available I may decide to buy a Wooting Two HE
I don't really know what to ask so... info dump? Good references? Types, options, procedures, tools, effects, etc?
I'm used to a fully flat, very quiet laptop keyboard with about 1.5mm travel, but that keyboard seems to be wearing out. I tried a friend's analog keyboard and liked it but the long travel threw me off and I wanted something quieter, especially since it would make the most distinct noise if I hit the bottom of the travel instead of near the top. I'm wondering what options there are to alleviate those concerns. I originally wondered about something like a layer of foam around the switches and under the edges of the keycaps, but someone here in another channel mentioned that (various?) o-rings are an option
is it worth it tape modding it if so then how many layers and what other mods should i add?
We have a video about this on YouTube
i mean, i dont think you can change the amount of travel but the point of the wooting is to change your trigger points so you can just set them light to emulate your light keyboard and then get a case like the freebird thats like 4 degree angle for a flat typing style
i could be misunderstanding tho
I mean I want to replace the keycaps and physically limit the maximum travel with something soft while I have them off
sounds like a bad idea but i could be wrong
...why?
messin with the travel of the keyboard defeats the purpose of the wooting
3mm analog != 4mm digital
Especially 3x0.1mm vs 4x1.2mm (travel & activation points)
@fresh jackal sorry to bug you but am i crazy? wouldnt messin with the travel of the caps mess with the actuation points
Good morning everyone. Actual work kicked in today and Ive been busy.
I think what ChaiQi wants to do isn't possible today, but might be possible in the future. What I mean is, I'm "assuming" (and I want to stress this is 100% assumption as I have no idea if what I'm about to type is even remotely true) that the calibration that happens on startup is really just the sensor determining how strong the magnetic force currently is on each switch. It's not really measuring distance, it's measuring the magnetic force and using crazy math to convert that force into distance. If thats true then it may also be true to assume that the math it uses has some absolute values, such as maximum distance is 4mm so what you would might need to happen to make his suggestion work would be to user override those values to say something like 4mm should actually be detected as 3mm and have the math adjust accordingly.
If even half of that is true I'd be surprised BUT I bet if you ask this question in the Lekker Switch channel, you might get a better answer
I think you guys are over thinking it. An artificial stopper that prevents the key being depressed a certain distance is no different than just not pressing it down all the way.
You could place some kind of plastic insert into the bottom of the switch that would limit travel.
The analog-ness of the switches doesn't matter unless you're actually using the keyboard in joystick mode, which I would guess most people aren't. It's just there for customizable actuation points and rapid trigger.
That's what I was thinking 😅
I'd like to be able to use them as analog, is it not possible to set the analog curve to max out at 3mm?
Mostly I don't want them to click loudly if I press too hard and incidentally hit the end of the travel
I haven't played around with the joystick emulation much so I dunno. I'm assuming you can tweak the graph to basically get that functionality (arbitrary "full engagement" points).
But I think decreasing the throw would be a detriment if you're going for joystick like support. IMO, the throw already isn't enough to make the feature useful.
I see
Offset clicks were what really threw me off about my friend's analog keyboard but I think that might have been a steelseries with some kind of noise-making contraptions in the keys
Do you mean a sound before you bottomed out?
I can't remember if it was when it bottomed out or before that (too)
The Wooting won't make a sound until you bottom out because it has linear switches.
O-rings really dampen the sound of bottoming out and will shrink the throw to like 3mm if that's what you're after.
I think these were linear too but less programmable and maybe made to click too
That's what someone in another channel recommended, how easy are they to install, how much do they cost, and what should I know about them?
Cost is like $5-$10. You take all the keycaps off, put an o-ring over the stem, and put the cap on. So it's slightly tedious but it's fine.
Not bad at all if I might be replacing the keycaps too
There are various thicknesses and hardnesses. Softer will absorb more sound and feel softer when bottomed out.
Softer, then, for sure
I did order some 3.5mm thick o-rings to try out and they were so big they didn't work 😆 . But if you order "keyboard specific" O-rings, you'll be fine. Check Amazon.
Heh, alright. 3.5 sounds like quite a lot, which direction? lol
Something like these is probably what you want.

Ahh you're right, I was completely overthinking it.
Oo, yeah, that looks about tright. A few different options linked from it too if I want to shop around. Thanks!
I would be totally down with a low profile Lekker similar to the size of the low profile Keychron opticals.
Just don't set your down activation too high and I guess you'll be ok.
Anyone know where I can acquire a white, aluminum tofu60
At this point? Second hand somewhere if you're lucky. Out of production for a while, no stock anywhere.
Do you know if the 2.0 WK version will work??

Look at this case and compare with the old tofu.
You're missing the big, glaring USB port cutout that's staring you right in the face.
Not to mention the lack of mounting posts.
😆😆 good eye 😉
@sacred vigil shoot me a DM I might be able to help you out if you're in the US.
Can also confirm the Klippe T works great, I also planned to do a Tofu since they were cheap and available last time I was at the store. Was surprised to see them discontinued and hard to get
I've done all the usual mods like case swapping, lubing, etc. My only problem now is that I wish there was a bit more force required for a keypress, but sadly only lighter springs are offered. I took some measurements of the spring and found some that I believe will fit, but if anyone has actual experience with sourcing/spring swapping in general that would be great
If someone can sanity check me since I haven't taken a physics class in like 8 years? Everywhere provides their spring force/constant in newtons/cm or lb/inch. Are the force graphs provided with switches/springs usually measured in gram force? Assuming the Lekkers travel linearly and it takes 60g to compress it 0.6", could I just assume its 100g/1" then convert that to pound-force? Would that would put me at a 0.22 lb/inch spring to match the 60g stock spring in the Lekkers? Not sure how things like number of coils, wire diameter, pitch, etc matter, or if its mainly just making sure the diameter/length will fit then choosing one with the appropriate force. I figure the pitch, coils, etc all probably influence the force curve beyond the total force required?
Gonna be some trial and error for sure, but first I'm trying to figure some basics out then find somewhere that isnt $2 a spring
Ouch
I honestly have no idea why theyre so expensive, especially when so many are like a cent. The next huge issue is finding nonmagnetic springs that match all the criteria
Surely I'm missing something that makes these so expensive wtf
110x 150g springs for $8
If you want up to 2.5x the force requirement
The ID of the spring wont fit the wooting switches which is the problem, and they're magnetic
the stem on the lekkers is ~4mm since they need a magnet for the hall effect, regular switches are ~2mm
Ah
Stainless steel isn't magnetic.
My memory was fuzzy on whether it can be magnetized
Good god I'm sleep deprived, you're right
https://chart-studio.plotly.com/~haata/522/gateron-black/#/ or am I totally wrong here and mixing force vs energy? This has actuation energy listed as 77gf/mm for a 46gf actuation force. Would that mean my spring rate would have to be way higher than 0.22?
these appear to be very close to identical to the stock springs for lekker switches
33->62gf instead of 30->60
You could calculate spring coefficients but if stainless steel and therefore normal keyboard springs are fine, they should mostly or all be rated with the same system. Alternative systems would only really be necessary for jank springs from a hardware store
Wide springs do seem hard to find, though
This is pretty much what Ive been doing for the last little bit, I figure ill just ignore any of my poor attempts at physics and stick to a single system
Plugged my measurements into this calc https://www.thespringstore.com/spring-force-calculator-online.html and got ~0.260 Lbs/In
Definition: Spring calculator software provided to be used online. This software is able to calculate the strength or force of a spring.
But seeing how sensitive it is to wire diameter changes maybe i should remeasure and take a little more time this time around
If you do end up needing to, I had to refresh my memory but...
F=-k x
F = force, 60gf
k = spring constant, unknown
x = spring compression, 3.59mm
The negative can probably be ignored since you know it's compression
Or if you conveniently have one of those graphs the spring coefficient is basically just the slope
