It's pretty simple

It's probably a normal magnet but the poles are placed sideways

So when you spin the knob, you spin the magnet too, which changes the magnetic field relative to the sensor when chances the voltage measured to ground.

This is the basis of how 99% of magnetic encoders work.

And it's not hard to implement here

Do you use one of the existing Wooting rests? I think the attachment is neat, but mine is rock solid on the desk even without it.

I suppose if my desk were wood/made of an uneven material that wouldn't be the case.

i use a razer matt on my wooden desk then the 60he+ and the wrist rest sit on it
