@tawdry tree ive been trying every combination of things for weeks/months and I gave up and ordered the first part PC plate

#

never got the rapid trigger to be consistent under 0.4mm

#

im using the stock steel one while i wait for it to arrive

tawdry tree
#

Which is not the case with the steel plate

glad geyser
#

I heard power cycling and restoring the board will recalibrate it and that worked temporarily but then the next day i run into the same issue again; rapid trigger disabling my switch when i wiggle a key

#

what do u mean stuck on the stabs?

tawdry tree
#

The bends happen directly above the stabs

#

Again, it’s hard to see but it looks to me like they’re getting stuck on the stabs.

glad geyser
#

i guess it looks that way but theres a standoff to the right of the spacebar right by the stab and more on the far left and right side of the plate

#

thats where the pressure is between the screw plate and standoff

#

the standoffs are all where the plate bows inwards

tawdry tree
#

You sure? Because then I’d think the stand offs are too short.. 🧐

glad geyser
#

its what came with the kbdfans kit

#

i was thinking longer screws would maybe help but those are the screws it came with

#

ive tried the stock ones and the ones that came in the plate kit and theyre both the same length it seems

tawdry tree
#

Two people I know use fr4 without an issue.

glad geyser
#

do they use rapid trigger at 0.15?

tawdry tree
#

If the plate stand off length look the same something is holding the plate up, has to be. It looks like the stabs.

glad geyser
#

because at 0.4 theres no problems

tawdry tree
#

The problem was with stock stabs as well right?

glad geyser
#

any ideas on how to take a crack at it ?

#

yeah stock and durock

#

i broke a piece of the stock one trying to take the space bar off lol

tawdry tree
# glad geyser any ideas on how to take a crack at it ?

The plate shouldn’t warp, obviously. So I’d check what the cause is, too short stand offs you could solve with a tiny o ring if the screw length allows it. Thing is you don’t want the plate distance to be higher than normal as that messes with your actuation and rapid trigger.

glad geyser
#

i dont think the screws are long enough for that to work. i have some o rings as I was gonna try to burger mount it but ended up getting a big gummy o ring instead

#

i could pick up some 5 or 6mm screws and try

tawdry tree
glad geyser
#

theyre the same length i believe

#

they look the same and they both cause the plate to warp identically

#

ive tried both sets

tawdry tree
#

If you screw in the fr4 plate without anything in it, does it warp still?

#

Without switches, stabs or foam.

glad geyser
#

havnt tried that actually

tawdry tree
glad geyser
#

if it was somehow the stabs what would the solution be ?

tawdry tree
#

Well, not sure yet 😉

#

Could you take the foam out and take a picture of the stabs?

#

See if they’re touching the pcba or not.

glad geyser
#

ill do it tomorrow and @ you

tawdry tree
#

All good!

glad geyser
#

thanks

tawdry tree
#

Anytime

glad geyser
#

i was using it without the foam for a bit and it was still an issue

#

havnt tried removing the stabs and switches and checking for bowing

tawdry tree
#

I’d presume it’s either the stabs that are stuck between the plate and pcba holding the plate up too high.

#

Or the stand offs are too short.

#

Don’t really think it could be anything else tbh.

glad geyser
#

im almost certain its the standoffs but we will see tomorrow

tawdry tree
#

Could be.

glad geyser
#

not sure why KBD fans would ship this with standoffs that are too short, especially after advertising that it works with a wooting 60he

#

tofu 60 redux btw

tawdry tree
#

The two I know that have fr4 didn’t have a warping one

#

so either kbd gave you the wrong sized stand offs

#

or it’s something else

glad geyser
#

i feel like thats it or maybe they meant to send me longer screws

#

ill take all this apart tomorrow

#

Here's an example of a Wooting 60HE put into an HMKB case. It required a special FR4 plate, as the case is top mount, as well as drilling some holes for the standoffs between the plate and PCB, but the end result was worth it.

There is the tiniest bit of flex and bounce now, which makes for a much more pleasant typing experience, and the ergonomics are almost on par with the stock plastic case, as the HMKB has a pretty low front height and a 6° typing angle.

The keycaps are XMI Swedish base with APL sublegends in gradient, from Erland's last groupbuy round. I can highly recommend them.

fierce void
raven cave
# fierce void what is this plate can you share it with me in DMs

I could, but I'll just write it here. 😄

It's available for purchase from the HMKB site (heavymetalkeyboards.com) itself. But the maker didn't realise that HE switches don't have contact pins, so he didn't make holes for the standoffs – he figured that there were hotswap sockets for the switches to latch into to hold the plate and PCB together. Hopefully he will correct it for future buyers.

halcyon sparrow
#

Hey guys I had a question regarding HE switches. I saw a post regarding a comparison between lekker 45s, and raptors. I noticed they mentioned that the 45s had a smaller actuation distance, but the raptors had a more consistent actuation because of its magnet.
Could anyone who knows about switches well enough tell me if there's a possibility of getting the actuation distance of the 45s but the consistency of the raptors though combining the twos components? Or is the component required to get one benefit the same as the one required for the other.

devout torrent
#

Lekker stem in raptor housing

agile grove
#

(by sensitive I mean actuation sensitivity. 0.1 actuation on lekkers is about 0.3 actuation on raptors tmk, this is because the raptors have stronger magnets iirc.)

halcyon sparrow
agile grove
halcyon sparrow
#

This is what I have found prior to this question

#

So taking the lekker stems and springs putting them in the raptor housing should theoretically produce a .01 actuation point, the fastest response times and reliability of the raptors?

halcyon obsidian
#

I'm confused why its saying the raptors are more "consistent"

halcyon sparrow
#

I haven't had hands on with either of them nor have I seen an explanation

agile grove
#

im not entirely sure what you mean or what you are going for. lemme explain a little bit.

if you put the l45 springs into the raptors they'll have the operation forces of the l45s (meaning easier to press). however, the raptor magnet is stronger meaning theoretically you could make the switch activate faster/sooner. if this is what you're going for, then yes, otherwise im not sure what you mean.

halcyon sparrow
#

But I've seen people.mentiom the magnet so I'm assuming its that

halcyon obsidian
#

I think people have just said the magnet is "stronger"

#

But that doesn't make it more consistent

#

it just makes it feel lighter

halcyon sparrow
agile grove
#

maybe they mean more consistent because the force difference is 10 rather than the 15 of the lekkers? im really not sure.

halcyon sparrow
#

I am going for the "benefits of both" from what I've been reading

tawdry tree
# halcyon sparrow This is what I have found prior to this question

He’s said fastest, he means lightest. He said most consistent, he means most consistent in spring, the raptors have an initial of 42 and bottom of 52, a difference of 10 which is the most consistent of the bunch. I don’t think this has anything to do with switch performance, rapid trigger or actuation point. Afaik you can use .1mm on raptors just fine.

halcyon sparrow
#

Oooohh

stray tiger
halcyon obsidian
#

another thing I'm confused about is if you use lekker stem aren't you using lekker magnet?

tawdry tree
# halcyon sparrow Oooohh

I presume you can switch out the raptor’s spring if you want something heavier but I’m not sure.

tawdry tree
halcyon obsidian
#

jades have a closed bottom and have a travel distance of 0.2mm - 3.5mm

halcyon obsidian
#

does this not mean 0.2-3.5?

tawdry tree
stray tiger
#

It means + or - .2mm meaning there is a variance/tolerance

tawdry tree
#

+/-

halcyon obsidian
#

O

halcyon sparrow

halcyon obsidian
tawdry tree
halcyon sparrow
#

Oh ya because the inputs wouldn't be a controller it would be a keyboard in the settings

tawdry tree
#

For a ranged input you need it to be analog, with digital you only have on/off. 😉

halcyon sparrow
#

One final question lol (sorry for the whole list) changing the stem would be solely to try to remove the key cap wiggle (if the stem is larger then the original)

tawdry tree
halcyon sparrow
#

Cool I'll take some of my extras apart and see what I will do for the module

tawdry tree
#

With the raptor switches it works alright but the stem can feel a bit tight at first.

Do i need to buy o rings to burger mount the module or its included in it ?

terse bane
untold wigeon
stray tiger
# terse bane wich size do i need ?

BURGER MOUNT – This mod is aimed at reducing the sound differences occasionally heard at the mounting points on tray mounted keyboards. This is more prominent with aluminum cases as the frequency changes at the mounting points can be amplified in a metal case. This a simple mod that only requires some 1mmx4mm rubber/silicone o-rings and some slightly longer mounting screws (M2*5-6). The goal is to try and isolate the PCB from the case by placing o-rings on the mounting screws between the PCB and the stand-offs (optionally, you can place a second o-ring between the screw head and the PCB). You can find the Wooting results from burger mounting in this video - https://youtu.be/tlPX6gYSxyU

The Wooting 60HE is a stiff keyboard, that we can agree. So, is there something you can do to change this? Sander tries out the burger mount mod for the Wooting 60HE to see if that makes a drastic change in feel, but also in sound.

Also have to make sure your brands warranty covers burn in

#

Some do not

untold wigeon
#

theyre currently for a very small audience, and itll be that way for while

#

Awhile

normal schooner
#

idk man I have an oled tv from 2019 and still no burn issues today. its 4 years later

tawdry tree
untold wigeon
harsh dove
#

It’s usually between 2-4 years warranty

untold wigeon
#

monitors not so much

#

tvs also seem to have better tech in them currently since theyve been made for much much longer

normal schooner
#

ok whatever u say. my friends also have oled monitors without issues

untold wigeon
#

I have 2023 oled monitors with burn in

#

Taken care of pixel cleaner user

#

Your friends experiences dont nullify the issue.

tawdry tree
#

bro played the same game 20 hours a day for a year straight.

untold wigeon
#

Theres burn in reports all over from the lg alienware abd asus

#

And

#

OLED has no mid range or budget options

#

its a very long way from being a standard

agile grove
#

im not sure if this is still an issue with recent panels but theres also mura (I for one have a steam deck oled with pretty bad noticeable mura)

untold wigeon
#

LCD will remain king till people are comfortable with burn in possibility and oled has a selection of monitors at multiple price points

#

LCD also is still motion clarity king due to ULMB2 and 540HZ E-TN

harsh dove
#

Yeah OLED is kinda niche and expensive

tawdry tree
#

I don’t know about the burn in issues, I know it happened very often but there’s a prevention technique now

harsh dove
#

Would love to see more people adopt OLED tho as the tech gets better

untold wigeon
#

There has always been prevention

#

It doesnt nullify anything

tawdry tree
untold wigeon
#

That is nkt true

#

Oled is orgsnic

tawdry tree

Not my words.

untold wigeon

Organic

#

Burn in is ALWAYS going to be there

#

It degrades.

#

No burn in is not and will not be a thing

agile grove
#

is mura still bad on oled panels?

untold wigeon
#

Microled this year will be bigger than oled

harsh dove
untold wigeon
#

A microled monitor with MBR would slaughter OLED

untold wigeon
agile grove
untold wigeon
#

alienware and lg are thr go to for oled monitors

harsh dove
#

Main issue with monitors for me is color accuracy and ghosting . Panels are personal preference in terms of LCD, MLED and OLED

agile grove
#

I got a steam deck oled (tbf this is generally just a steamdeck oled issue) and the mura is pretty dissapointing

untold wigeon
#

asus should be avoided, but most know that

#

OLED atm simply cant compete with 540hz E TN LCD

#

for clarity

harsh dove
#

no issues

normal schooner

same no issues

really?

tawdry tree

asus and dells new monitors both use samsungs pannel no?

harsh dove

Yes

#

They all use same panel

normal schooner
#

no always lg panels

untold wigeon
#

dells warranty and qc is a million times better

also thr panel isnt the most important thing

harsh dove
#

Alienware and LG have better warranty than Samsung but iirc Samsung updated theirs as well

untold wigeon
#

its how the panel is tuned

tawdry tree
untold wigeon
#

if the panel is tuned badly, its going to be shit

tawdry tree
untold wigeon

if someone drops a 240hz glossy ultrawide I will upgrade

Glossy is more popular

That new ASUS uses an LG panel anyway

yeah for sure

Might wait it out for later this year to see what other ones pop up

agile grove
harsh dove
#

lol well they showed a lot of monitors at CES

#

Plus Alienware and LG warranties cover Burn-In and Samsung and ASUS do not

#

Not that I’ve had burn issues on my Samsung and ASUS but still

#

I do like this feature a lot tho. Hopefully the other new monitors come with this as well

stray tiger
#

How is it different than a normal KVM?

devout torrent
#

some other monitors have KVMs already

#

pretty useful for those that need it

quick gulch
#

The ultra wides are really cool would have liked to have seen more burn in prevention stuff but the 4k model is sick

#

Seems like the same panel as last year but it can actually push 4k 240 not just 60

#

But probably won’t see anything really cool until we get some micro led monitors perhaps

harsh dove
#

lol tbh it’s the same thing @stray tiger

#

Just ASUS version of it ig tryna make it more seamless

stray tiger
#

The older 240hz gigabyte monitors I have include a built in KVM and I never use it

quick gulch
#

I’m sure there’s people out there who want it

harsh dove

Shame on you lol nah some people either use it or don’t . It can be useful tho

quick gulch

They have to stand out otherwise people will just get lgs rather than a brand

That’s a super solid PC
