Plants your board to the desk more. I haven't had issues with my stock 60he and moving around...so I don't see a major benefit of having a super heavy board.

Some people like having heft when they lift the board though. I can see it feeling pretty premium if it weighs as much as a dumbbell.

This will be mainly preference but from my expeirence most would probably prefer softer plates due to sound and feel. Softest is the Polycorbonate plate but I really like Pom plates, they have a nice sound and are pretty much just as soft. I don't like brass at all, Steel is by far the worst, aluminum is ok, but again it's all preference. Some might prefer the harder type feel which I don't
