I will say the sound and feel can vary pretty drastically depending on how you decide to go about lubing your switches. I have two wootings in the same case with the same mods. One I lubed pretty conservatively, the other one, very liberal, and there's a huge difference in sound and feel. Light lube is still very light and clacky, heavy lube was much deeper and thockier; made the switches feel a little heavier too. Normally I'd never use as much lube as I did on the heavy lubing, but considering there's no physical leaf to worry about, I went a little overboard. Both are nice depending on what you like.

I don’t think you’ll ever be able to make analog switches sound exactly like regular switches

I used poron Wuque pads. 30 something thick. They deform which makes pressing them in annoying

Lubing the top housing makes the biggest difference in sound for me

yeah if you lube all 4 angles it’s perfect, tired lubing just the sides like normal and then lubed all 4 on another switch and it made it sound 2x better

Definitely, the factory lubing is only on the stem so a lot of manual lubing

You can't swap the plate - You need to have one made with standoffs.

Otherwise it won't really work. Additionally most materials are too soft and flexible to work properly.

So the switches rely on magnet sensors on the PCB for the signals. And since this is question of distance, having a plate that flexes when switches are pushed, could cause inaccurate or weird inputs (could potentially make neighboring keys activate when unpressed)

I don't know WHICH materials work - Not really big on the whole custom plate stuff, but we do have some folks in here who have made customs plates to fit the 60HE in gasket mounted cases.

If you're adding extenders to the standoffs to increase the height of the PCB inside the case, I would be aware of the USB-C port not aligning with the port cutout of the case. I did a burger mount with m2x8mm screws and the port is centered in the cutout.

Just finished lubing all my switches 🙂 waiting on my custom keycaps to come. Put in the Poseidon 60 case. With 4 layers of tape mod. Fits the case perfectly without having to off center anything using the default screw holes

I've got stupidfish case/plate + pe foam kits, as well as a freebird60, on their way for my 60he. Just reading now that its not recommended to put foam between the PCB and switches (pe foam location) and that the wooting foam is (according to wooting) high quality. Has anyone experimented with a similar combination? Is PE foam a no-go for the wooting? Should I keep the stock foam and add the stupidfish case and plate foam, or just one or the other? Would burger mounting allow more space for the foam, and is there a trade off when doing this? PE foam is only 0.5mm, is that still not recommended?

It should be fine when you're using standoffs

just need to make sure the switches pierce through the pcb foam

only minor thing it might affect the switch is that it will bottom out slightly higher with lower pressures

even then, it's barely much of a change

just try it out and find out yourself which combination of foam works best for you/gives you the sound you want.
There are PE foam pads out there that many people use that shouldn't interfere with the hall effect.
As said just try it out and if you run into any problems with the hall effect just take it out again.

Are you referring to the pe foam? I've never used it before, or really done any modding outside lubing. You're saying the keycap will make contact w the pe foam and bottom out up to 0.5mm earlier? I didn't realize pe foam worked that way

you only really need one layer of foam/dampening in your board with the freebird60 case (not counting the foam attached to your plate as default)

most people either use the silicon layer that came with their freebird60 or the foam from their wooting case (although you might have to tear off the top layer to make it fit better if it's a bit too tight for your liking)

you won't have room for more than 1 of the choices because it's a snug fit to get that usb port in the right spot

Yeah burger mount will change how it fits and you’ll need to play with the amount of foam - honestly I just skipped burger mount because it didn’t really give gasket like feel anyway

You can still get a thin layer of foam in below it with burger mount though I’m pretty sure

wooting has thee dxf file for theeir plate on github. after that you can use them to order custom plate. Mounting the plate to the pcb, there is a cheap standoff kit from kdbfans

one thing you havee to look out for tho, the size for the standoff hole is wrong in their dxf (atleast for this standof kit)someone else made a revised version tho

its not really wrong in that sense, its most likely like this because they use other standoffs

fr4 was by jlcpcb. fr4 is the same material pcbs are made out of. you have to convert the dxf into a gerber file first tho

Got around to measuring it. 15mm, 15.5mm with the rubber bumpons on the bottom. OG case is about 18.5mm at the front by my measurements

many keyboard cases that are higher in price opt for brass weights as it absorbs sound far better than aluminium
