reef tundra
#

Thats why grouned up beef should be fully cooked aswell

#

External temperature should be at least the temperature you want to heat it to. afterthat only need to compensate for loss in the transfer to the meat

astral haven
#

Or you can just cook it for longer lol
Won't be edible but it'll technically be cooked lol

reef tundra
#

Use salt dogekek

astral haven
#

Actually hmm how is jerky made?

reef tundra
#

rack with slices of meat, in a heated and dry room

astral haven
#

71c
That's under what we can hit

reef tundra
#

Important part is getting the water out of the meat, the heat allows to pick a lot more of that. Exponentially I think

ashen spindle
#

wait I read that wrong

astral haven
#

Someone needs to make a stovetop mining rig using a huge whatsitcalled

#

Vapor chamber

reef tundra
#

if you use water as a medium to transfer the heat thonk . CPU happy for able to put the heat somewhere. User happy with heating stuff to its vapor point

fickle ore
#

lots of anaerobic bacteria within meat

#

idk what C they die at

reef tundra
#

according to cdc they find 145F to be safe. (62.7777777777..8c)

fickle ore
#

doubtful

ashen spindle
#

depends on the time

fickle ore
#

only something like 20% bacteria/microbes are even known 😄

#

truth is we don't know shit

astral haven
#

Vapor chambers work up to around 120c
Not well but they still work

reef tundra
#

Probably they use the temperature most pathogens are instantly dead. (experimentally)

astral haven
#

I doubt instantly :/

#

I suspect dead after a minute at temperature

fickle ore
#

Some bacteria apparently need like 120C (250F) to die. If they're anaerobic, the inside heat of the meat must reach 120 too. Oh well.

#

But I like medium- steak

reef tundra
#

The higher the temperature the faster the meterial will dump the heat to its surroundings. Only have to break the outer cell wall and having to leak the guts

astral haven
#

Break cell wall would be immediate
Degrade nescessary parts like dna would be "short amount of time"

reef tundra
#

Extremophiles have been known but mostly hang around thermal vents deep in the ocean

#

Most cells dont bother with dealing with having the ability to patch large holes in their cell wall.

fickle ore
#

^Hyperthermophiles 😄

reef tundra
#

Considering how poor we humans do when the temperature goes above 40c.

fickle ore
#

even 30c ambient for hours and hours is terrible 😦

crisp granite
#

jeez

#

between 10 and 20 degrees is the sweet spot imo

fickle ore
#

But going into sauna for 15 mins at 70-80c is quite nice

reef tundra
#

42 is concidered to be extreme. with 40 to be severe

crisp granite
#

Saunas are quite nice though

fickle ore
#

They are

crisp granite
fickle ore

I'm used to 18-20c ambient, everything else is terrible and sweaty af

crisp granite

summers suck all the time

mosquitoes come out to play

pale sigil
#

Ha

crisp granite
#

and by play, I mean suck your blood and give you a nasty disease if you're really unlucky

reef tundra
#

As long as the body has enough systems to shutdown to limit heat generation and thus keeping the core somewhat regulated

pale sigil
#

Try using a walking stick a say in trh scorching heat

#

XD

crisp granite
#

I've never required use of a walking stick

#

I'll report back when I've tried that

reef tundra
#

I did have a fever once of 41 or something. luckly it was winter at the time dogekek
The fever came way before the other symptoms

fickle ore
#

that's crazy my highest is like 38c

crisp granite
#

I've never had a fever I can recall

#

I've had minor hypothermia more times than I can count on two hands though

reef tundra
#

I would be in the cold winter air feeling like its normal and the neighbour asked me why im so underdressed. Pretty much weaking a tshirt and pants.

#

Called my doctor who told me to come quickly and to trash the thermometer because its broken.

Intel Xe-HPG is now sampling At ISC 2021 Intel also provided a short update on Xe Architecture deployment.  According to Intel, Xe-HPC (known as Ponte Vecchio) has powered on and it is currently invalidated. We have seen this high-performance accelerator being teased by Raja Koduri and Pat Gelsinger before, so Intel is definitely expecting it […...

reef tundra

Police has pretty much abandoned the idea of order in that area. Especially during the night

crisp granite
reef tundra

Also the lack of rich people to protect

crisp granite

gang violence is the norm

IRS doesnt even care to collect taxes there

I can tell you that's not the case north of the US

astral haven

In game performance is not fantastic but you are still looking at 80% performance in 70% of games
70% performance in 29% of games and unplayable in the last percent

#

And that's at under half the power

reef tundra
#

I have seen loads of police activity in the suburbs here. Most of the effort goes there. Keeps the suburbs from falling into hoods

astral haven
#

It's pretty dismal performance wise compared to the 1650 but same perf/watt is alright imo

That person been on a downhill trend for a bit now lul

Turkey bad for dictator.

Same can be said about Israel

Or virtually any country lul

reef tundra
#

Any ethostate is bad

crisp granite

the middle east is really fucking religious, so expect bullshit like that to continue

cursive summit
#

Trump was right, we need the wall

reef tundra

China is really bad. Murdering an entire provice the size of a country

Just make it intercontinental

Anti-islamic wall lul

That'd be a joy to behold

crisp granite

Trump was only right about one thing

And that's China

crisp granite

as it was written forever ago, when killing gays was expected

cursive summit

China needs to be put to their place

#

But that's about it

crisp granite

nowadays, it's antiquated, just as any religion

reef tundra

Christians did a few crusades remember

crisp granite

but christian, so it's all good?

reef tundra

Yes, they would also call it a jihad. as it definationally is correct in arabic

crisp granite

it really was the same idea

flush out the infidels from a certain area of religious significance

reef tundra

Just done by misguided people not convinced by the truth in their idea

#

But who are the baddies when the protestants vs catholics was happening?

crisp granite

I wish all religions could just agree that fighting ruins lives and agree to free passage to religious sites

#

if a muslim wants to do the haij, let them, and don't get in their way

same with a jew who wants to travel back to the holy land

I mean the quran tells that all other religions are the same but different interpretations of islam. Also tells to treat the other religions fairly as they are pretty much God

it's a rule of thumb

israeli media says they're killing HAMAs terrorists, HAMAs says they're striking civilians

truth is it's really both, but unintentionally the second

It is still a war crime to attack militairy targets with too many civilian collateral damage

Today, we’re releasing the first preview build of Windows 11 to the Windows Insider community. if your laptop is so old it doesnt have tpm already, my guess is majority will do just well with using win10 since that is still supported till 2025

tawny prism

I can only add one because I'm on a server motherboard.

ashen spindle

anything past skylake has TPM as a cpu feature anyway so it's not needed

tawny prism

Actually no, E5 V2 Xeons are Ivy Bridge.

But I should be able to get 5+ years more out of this computer before Adobe and AutoDesk decide to bloat their software enough that I have to replace it.

crimson wigeon
#

Will probably be blocked by CPU generation then, unless you hack around it

ashen spindle

I mean just keep running win10, dont see what new feature 11 has that would be needed for those tools

tawny prism
#

I game on it, too, but still nothing really new that Win10 couldn't support.

And the generation should be fine, I went over the listing and other than not having the TPM installed on my motherboard I have it.

Why not use the app?

Does anyone understand why i cannot get the dev channel for the windows insider program ? been trying to firgure it out forawhile now

reef patrol
#

Well for one you need to convert your local windows account to a Microsoft one.

#

Enable full disgnosistics. And of course have secure boot and TPM enabled for win 11

Also.. dont forget the blood ritual

astral haven
#

Welp win 11 here we go

reef tundra
#

Why are people this masochistic

astral haven
#

I've gotta know
Can I get rdma for free?

#

I don't want to pay $200 to Microsoft or pay $100 to a shady key reseller

reef tundra
#

There is no free lunch

astral haven
#

Ill sell Microsoft whatever usage data they want for a chance to use rdma

reef patrol
#

Welp... The new start menu lived for all of two minutes before I turned the old one back on.

reef patrol
#

Now my Win10 menu has definitely seen better days, and I keep forgetting to shrink those last three that Gamepass injected.

#

But look at this shit. Can't remove the recommended part taking up HALF of the menu. You can't group icons at all, and it didn't carry over icons.

#

And on that bombshell I bid Y'all a good night.

reef tundra
#

The ui feels clunky and bloated

#

Also the first picture and seconds seem using differend design philosphy

astral haven
#

Well yes

#

The first one is win 10 second is win 11

reef patrol
#

Yep. Fallback regkey.

reef tundra
#

Couldnt they make those icons bigger in the new one then. looks like a desert

reef patrol
#

Also - The old control panel is still there. Wheee....

reef tundra
#

which was disregarded for the old settings menu for easier use

#

Godmode folder was the best way of dealing with the OS for me

crimson wigeon
#

Hmmm.. I use local account and it insiders fine

young pecan
#

Just got attempted identity theft, and so I'm reducing my attack surface to nothingness.

#

Anyone got some extra security stuff for me?

#

I do have a bunch of the more complex stuff, around the overkill that is FOBs.

#

But uhh, anyone got some knowledge here that I might not?

reef tundra
#

Best to blend into the crowd than hide

young pecan
#

Maybe if my data wasn't already breached.

reef tundra
#

Did facebook do an oopsie again

young pecan
#

Not sure.

#

Haven't seen any pwn detections, but someone clearly has some access to my data, this wouldn't be happening otherwise.

reef tundra
#

And how sure are you that its not paranoid schizophrenia?

#

Any logs to back that claim up?

young pecan
#

None that I'll post here.

reef tundra
#

Any unmarked white vans you know are the fbi watching your ever move?

young pecan
#

But no, I did get some emails I can confirm were from shit like my bank and government.

#

Someone be snooping.

reef tundra
#

Maybe the neighbours were replaced by androids already?

young pecan
#

Very helpful.

#

Any actual security shit? I've done most of what's possible already, but more security more good.

reef tundra
#

Probably best to check the router which ips it is communicating with. Maybe one of your crypto things went full joker mode and decided its about the message and not the money?

young pecan
#

Already done. My crypto is completely isolated away from the rest of the network.

reef tundra
#

Seperate public ip?

young pecan
#

Nope, router side selective encryption.

#

The IP is the same, but anything crypto only goes to certain places.

#

All isolated from everything.

#

Example being that I have a separate network that will only accept things with specific encryption that have to originate from a specific MAC and IP range.

#

So the LAN side is well guarded, but the internet is the internet.

#

But as my crypto is entirely disconnected from me as a person none of the information there serves anyone any use.

reef tundra
#

ARP Poisoning can be an possible attack vector

young pecan
#

I had considered ARP poisoning, but then why try to steal my identity? If you can poison my LAN you can certainly steal all of the graphics cards I have first.

reef tundra
#

Private information can cost few hunderd bucks on the black market i remember

#

Especially information that allows identity fraud

young pecan
#

That's true, but again, if you can poison my ARP you can defo just steal all of my belongings.

#

And that's worth a fuck of a lot more than simply trying to sell my data.

#

Every piece of internet traffic goes through VPN anyway.

reef tundra
#

It allows someone to be the man in the middle, snooping on all your internet traffic. As it managed to fool your device into registering its mac adress instead of the actual router.

young pecan
#

Yes, that's true.

reef tundra
young pecan
#

That is true, but all of my data is encrypted before it leaves the router (wireguard) and my IP range is always locked to however many devices I have on the network and I expand it on need.

#

On top of that IPs are bound to MACs and everything is isolated from cross communicating without prior auth.

#

There isn't even a way into my network even if you had a hard connection.

reef tundra
#

Not with arp as it is there to bind those ip addresses to mac adresses

young pecan
#

Sure, but you'd need an entry to do it.

#

There's no entry, is the point.

reef tundra
#

Cant rule out social engineering

young pecan
#

You'd need to grab an authorized MAC, rewrite your own, and then try and get into the router with your newly fucked around with device.

#

Yes, which is why I'm going and reducing my attack surface even more than it already is.

#

All of my important accounts now all have very specific instructions on my logins, there isn't much of a way to actually get into them since you need all of my other ID to do so.

#

Can't claim my ID because you need my ID to claim it, yeah?

reef tundra
#

Two factor authentication, and ssh keys

young pecan
#

Not two.

#

4 to 6 factor.

#

I don't believe in letting people have access to shit that lets them do identity theft.

reef tundra
#

Sounds a little excessive, and could attract attention. Government agencies, etc. must be important with that much security

young pecan
#

Well that's kinda the sacrifice I need to make.

#

I don't mind attracting attention if there's no real way into my accounts.

reef tundra
#

Might be easiest to take some kerosine and douse everything in it leaving a lighter to set it all ablaze

young pecan
#

Either I go low security in which case identity theft becomes an actual risk, and since it's one of the most damaging things that can actually happen to you as a person it's not something I want to even remotely risk or I go extremely tight security and attract curious eyes at having upwards of 8FA in some circumstances.

#

I could go near the middle, but it's not really worth it either for the really important stuff.

#

I'm not gonna bother with more than 2 or 3FA on my Minecraft account, but my bank account? My government accounts?

#

Nah.

reef tundra
#

low security? Its all about blending in and not be a fog horn alering anyone near. Giving false sense of that they broke the system.

young pecan
#

Dude, I'm really not willing to allow a social engineering attack on stuff like my SIM card which would allow someone to assume my identity.

#

That's where you do extremely heavy security.

reef tundra
#

You dont have to give true information when giving that enviorment to give them the sense they got in

#

All it needs to do is make people stop looking into it and move on

young pecan
#

Or I could do heavy security to prevent a social engineering attack?

#

2 and 3FA should honestly be standard on everything.

#

That's a bare minimum, but anything allowing someone to do damage to your identity should be under extremely heavy and complex security.

astral haven
#

social security number go brr

young pecan
#

Jesus fuck, that.

reef tundra
#

sim based authentication is retarded

young pecan
#

Ah yes, a number that controls your entire identity that has no security whatsoever.

#

Fucking brilliant idea.

reef tundra
#

one time token

young pecan
#

Why? America didn't want a secure method.

#

At least in Aussieland we have good security measures for that.

reef tundra
#

Because it was never meant to be identification

young pecan
#

Yep.

astral haven
#

that doesnt make it better tho

reef tundra
#

Its was made for the federal government to atleast have some way to identify people for social programs

young pecan
#

Yeee.

reef tundra
#

Because people refused an actual id

young pecan
#

And because the citizens hated being tracked for basic ID shit they just started using it for everything.

#

Because smart.

reef tundra
#

muh state rights and all that

young pecan
#

rolls eyes Awful system.

reef tundra
#

Your social security number is less secure and identifiable than a randomly assigned number the creditcards use

#

It even tells when you were born

#

where

#

what hospital

#

what time

young pecan
#

Quite literally tells you everything important about a person. It's hilarious.

astral haven
#

fortunately if you got yours from 2012 onwards thats not true

#

it is randomized after that

#

but uh

#

basically 100 years of having someones social = rip identity

reef tundra
#

Add +1 it -1 and you get another person born the same day, time, place etc

astral haven
#

again not as of 2012 or 2013 or whenever

#

2011 apparently

young pecan
#

Really nowhere near good enough, tbh.

astral haven
#

it should be at least 10 numbers long

#

minimum

#

probably + another 2 for crc

reef tundra
#

The biggest problem is literately the rejection of a nationalised identification system; slowly the banks, insurance and more needing a central system for identifying people; Realising it would be nice if the institutions and government could use the same system to be able to relate people and make fraud harder; people still being too bullheaded to realise they need one; ended up misusing one that was never made to be secure or long lasting; ended up with identification number anyway which is less secure than a coin flip

astral haven
#

i do appreciate realid

#

thats neat

halcyon moss
#

it would also require privacy by design and policy

astral haven
#

caught up to the eu passport i had in 2000 in terms of security but baby steps

reef tundra
#

my passport has a chip in it to quickly allow authorised sources to read the data in, verify with the governments database and be done in few seconds with the result

#

Makes making fraudulent passports a ton harder

astral haven
#

well yes

#

all passports do

#

but now my state id does too

reef tundra
#

Never bothered with getting an ID. Already have an passport and drivers licence with me most of the time.

astral haven
#

drivers license = id

#

in fact you cant have both (sorta)

old marlin
#

In germany you are required to have an id

halcyon moss
#

drivers license is only valid as ID in issuing country, Eu id card is valid in eu and a few extra countries. passport is big and valid in way more.
i have all 3

reef tundra
#

Drivers license has a weird legality around it. Might have changed though. But it was not considered to be a "legitimatie bewijs" so you still needed a passport or id with your drivers licence. Although nowadays it might have been changed by law or just police not wanting to deal with that bs

zenith sonnet
#

In Germany, driver's licence is not an ID

old marlin
#

Drivers licenses are considered equal to an id in germany

#

But you still need an id

zenith sonnet
#

But it's generally accepted inofficially

halcyon moss
#

in NL a drivers license is official ID for almost all cases.

#

but only in NL

reef tundra
#

Its good enough if they can find you in the system and send you the fine. Only when you are lying with it the problems tend to begin

halcyon moss
#

i got the ID because a passport is just to large to lug around all the time.

reef tundra
#

Could probably use my collage card as id without getting a fine for it. But they aint going to be too excited realising you gave them false name or something

astral haven
zenith sonnet
#

I haven't bothered with getting a new ID yet since my passport is still valid

reef tundra
#

Do passports expire as id even within the country itself. Would think it would only become relavant when you are in a foreign country

zenith sonnet
#

In Germany, they expire, and won't be accepted. You'll also have to pay a fine

halcyon moss
#

expiry is needed because of stolen/lost ids

reef tundra
#

Thats what the document number is for :)

zenith sonnet
#

Often times, they require it to be at least 6 months before expiry

halcyon moss
#

but in some cases it is accepted to have an expired id, like for voting. 5 years even!

old marlin
halcyon moss
old marlin
#

I think 6 years

zenith sonnet
#

10

old marlin
reef tundra
#

They only need to have your invitation to vote and some kind of proof to know that you aint no fraud

old marlin
reef tundra
#

The invitation already implies you to be of age and able to vote in the first place

zenith sonnet
#

Since those invitations are already considered 'unique', the ID is only required to make sure it's you and not your mom

young pecan
#

I do remember child passports having an expiry of 5 years.

reef tundra
#

If the government knows how to send letters correctly it should be 1 per person. Dont remember if they have your citizen number on there... 🤷 It works. No mass voter fraud happening like the US is in if you believe the politicians from the losing party

zenith sonnet
#

Child passports done expire here

#

At least mine did not

#

As far as I remember

young pecan
#

But that's kinda just a fuckup in how the Electoral Collage works.

reef tundra
#

Child passports expire much sooner here

#

Since children change a lot in a few years

reef tundra
young pecan
#

Closer to 60% at worst case, actually.

#

But that's due to how the Electoral Collage works.

#

Faithless voters and all that.

astral haven
#

there has never been a faithless voter that mattered in any way

reef tundra
#

Not perse? Most states have laws forcing the voters in the collage to be representative

young pecan
#

Like if you have a 51% majority vote, but those votes came from all areas of low population density it can mean you get 30% population in favor.

#

At least in theory.

astral haven
#

i mean its in practice thanks to gerrymandering

young pecan
#

Aye.

astral haven
#

im really hoping for that popular voting agreement

#

alot of states have already passed it

reef tundra
#

That is what we call "fuck you, got oil technique"

#

But if they cant do the political fuckery the republicans would never be in power no more. The tragedy.. how will the oil tycoon bribe lobby now?

young pecan
#

Ayy lmao

#

Lobbying is a joke.

#

So cancerous.

reef tundra
#

I call it bribing but marketing looked at it

young pecan
reef tundra
#

Same with tax evasion and tax avoiding. I call it a crime and all your assets have been seized

#

Do you know how you can not pay a lot those income taxes like the billionairs do?

#

So your effective tax rates tend to be <1%

#

much better than the 50% normally demanded by working people

astral haven
young pecan
#

Neither am I.

#

I mean it's a joke that it's been allowed to slip so far.

#

The fuck happened?

#

I mean... lobbying happened.

#

But why nobody stepped forward because this was an awful idea...

wheat plume
#

ooh neat

reef tundra
#

But I did manage to fix the steam issue

#

Everything worked. From dns resolution to manually confirm the existance the file it requested from the steam server

#

It just somehow needed dns caching to be turned on

#

If DNS resolution works but the Steam launcher still shows the same error message, enabling DNS caching e.g. via the "Name Service Caching Daemon", nscd.service, has shown to work around this issue.

It is unclear what exactly running nscd does to make it work again though. Please check the talk page for more info.

Hmm, power supplies can be capable of generating enormous spikes in the voltage, think few hundred volts high.(or very negative voltage). If the PSU isnt out of spec or didnt cheap out on the circuitry to safely discharge those spikes, most should be fine. Without it.. the secondary coil is going to ruin anyone day and it will kill anything connected to those rails. Whatever voltage they might be at the time
