#

fuck if i know

young pecan
#

To be fair there's multiple versions and they're some of the cheapest quality planars outside of Drop one can buy.

#

Honestly though, at some point it's worth just testing a bunch of super high quality phones.

chrome estuary
#

^

young pecan
#

My next set are probably going to be Audeze LCD-3s, but I already love my Sennheisers and I know the LCD-3s sound great as well.

#

Though a better amp is also pretty tempting...

chrome estuary
#

I've heard good things about the LCD2C and the LCD-X

young pecan
#

LCD-X is 5 grand or something?

chrome estuary
#

1200

#

the fucking LCD-3 is 1900

#

almost 2000

young pecan
#

$2,500 AUD.

misty saffron
#

these 100 euro hd600 have much better soundstage than sundara

young pecan
#

Though I can nab em at $1,600.

chrome estuary
#

ah yeah i'm using USD

misty saffron
#

genuinely a night and day difference

young pecan
#

Mmmm.

#

If you're going budget Sennheiser you better be going 6XX. :P

#

Those things are basically uncontested in all fields.

misty saffron
#

if you’re going budget sennheiser buy them used

young pecan
#

Yee.

#

Actually find 6XX for something like $130 AUD.

#

It's hilarious how cheap they can be had.

misty saffron
#

new hd600 are 300 euro, i bought them for 100

thick elk
#

My biggest gripe with the 6xx is that they are not the most comfortable even after a little bit of bending.
Besides that they are great.

young pecan
#

I found them to be quite nice to use with Dekoni pads installed.

#

But yeah, stock they're kinda alright.

chrome estuary
#

You might be thinking of the LCD4 which are 4000 USD

thick elk
#

I came from a hd 555 before and that was a lot more comfortable.

misty saffron
#

granted the headband foam thing is completely fucking gone on the ones i bought

#

but it’s a horribly cheap replacement

young pecan
#

Mmmm.

#

I do want the LCD-3s...

#

But the LCD-4s...

#

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

#

Worth almost 6 and a half grand, tho. :L

#

Might be worthwhile, I think.

#

Maybe if I get a really good amp at the same time, do a whole upgrade...

#

But then I'd need to actually go shopping for valves. Maybe Holy Grails or something from '65.

misty saffron
#

spending that much on headphones is regarded in my opinion

#

retarded

young pecan
#

shrugs

misty saffron
#

1/3rd of the price of a good car

young pecan
#

I do crypto mining, within a few years I'll be hilariously wealthy if I don't fuck up.

#

I'll be able to buy a lambo for shits and giggles.

cursive summit
#

You people are idiots lul

thick elk
#

For me the 6xx are definitely the sweetspot mostly.
Beating them in terms of sound quality without going overboard in price is hard.
And they really do not need an amp unlike what a lot of people claim.
Yes they have higher impedance but their sensitivity is still perfectly fine.

cursive summit
#

Here we were talking about budget headphones

#

HURRDURR BUY LCD-3

#

At MOST I'll be getting the Focal Elexes

young pecan
#

I already own a pair of HD800S, it's not a far leap. :P

cursive summit
#

And I do want to try out K812s

chrome estuary
#

i want a pair of the blue granite HD600

young pecan
#

@thick elk Could not be more wrong. You can run them without one, but they benefit so heavily from having an amp.

#

Shit, just the change when I got my Cavalli CTM was amazing.

#

And when I rolled my E88CC in was even better.

#

Just made everything sound way less muddy and far more intimate.

chrome estuary
#

like look how pretty they are

young pecan
#

Most headphones don't strictly need an amp to run, but it's the same as saying you can run any car on E10.

#

I mean yes, you can make it work on E10.

#

But... really?

#

Multi thousand dollar machine and you run E10 in it? There's such a blindingly obvious change between a fuel like E10 and 98 or 99.

cursive summit
#

Yeah HD600s/6XXs are a bit of "not worth" for me

young pecan
#

It feels so disingenuous saying they don't need an amp because they kinda do or else you wasted money on something you can't experience.

cursive summit
#

Why go 600 if you can get 650s

young pecan
#

Why indeed, but the 6XX is literally the 650 but cheaper.

thick elk
#

6xx is the 650 not 600

young pecan
#

^

cursive summit
#

6XX is U.S only

young pecan
#

Uhh, no.

cursive summit
#

Which means ridiculous imports taxes

#

And that literally puts them at about 300$ here lul

young pecan
#

I purchased mine from Drop for $400 AUD no severe import tax.

#

I'm in Aussieland.

cursive summit
#

Yeah hello there Aussie

#

Europe here

young pecan
#

You seen our import tax? It's nightmare.

#

Why do you think a decent Tesla is $110,000 here?

#

Less than half that anywhere else.

reef patrol
#

Why on earth would you buy an electric car in the wasteland?

young pecan
#

I mean... it's only mostly wasteland. :(

#

@cursive summit But nah, go for the 6XX man.

cursive summit
#

No

young pecan
#

It's so far worth it above literally any other pair.

#

650 be damned.

#

You can prolly even find a second hand one, and that's an amazing deal.

chrome estuary
#

i just assumed tesla was expensive everywhere cause y'know... it's an elon musk product

young pecan
#

Nah, in most other places switched for AUD it's like 70k or so for a good one.

#

But in Aussieland it's 40k more expensive because reasons.

cursive summit
#

Meh I'd rather again, K712 Pro

#

Or Sundaras for 290

#

What my ears decide, that will be the option lul

young pecan
#

tips hat Aye!

#

Though if you locate em in a store at least give them a try. :P

cursive summit
#

Again I am mostly interested in 712s, Sundaras and 650s

#

I will try out if I can: Focal Elex/Clear, K812s (I heard it's way too overpriced), Hifiman Susvaras/Anandas

zenith sonnet
#

Tbh, I'm not yet decided between the K712 or Sundara

#

On a cheap AMP/DAC combo like the E10K, definitely Sundara

#

But I probably notice the lack of quality on the K712 more than the lack of soundstage on the Sundara

young pecan
#

Literally go for 6XX and you get the best of all of those phones.

cursive summit
#

At the customs and shipping

#

With all the customs

#

240 euros

young pecan
#

Mhmm, looks about right.

#

They compete with headphones in the $800 USD range.

cursive summit
#

Meanwhile

young pecan
#

Mhmm.

cursive summit
#

And the Sundaras are 290

young pecan
#

And the K712s are not nearly as good as the 6XX.

cursive summit
#

I doubt that

young pecan
#

Or the Sundara’s for that fact.

#

I speak having owned them.

#

The sheer quality of the drivers far outstrips the price.

cursive summit
#

You can't say either of those 3 as better than one another when they do things differently

young pecan
#

Mmm, kinda.

chrome estuary
#

The thing about the K712 Pro is that they're reference headphones

young pecan
#

Sennheisers sound a lot warmer than most phones, and K712s are reference.

cursive summit
#

Sundaras will prolly sound the most analytical, K712s are the best in terms of soundstage, and 6XXs will sound the most fun, or warmest

#

I prefer analytical neutral

young pecan
#

K712s won’t be the best in soundstage.

#

That goes to the 6XX as well.

cursive summit
#

But they will though

young pecan
#

They really won’t.

#

Not at the price point.

cursive summit
#

Best in THAT COMPARISON

young pecan
#

See, the 650s are expensive phones, the only reason the 6XX is so cheap is because the material is plastic instead of metal.

#

The drivers are upgraded.

cursive summit
#

Sundaras lack in soundstage but it's good enough

#

I don't know much about the Sennheiser phones

#

Other than they are warm

young pecan
#

shrugs I’ve used them all before, the Sennheisers sound the best.

#

Warmer.

cursive summit
#

Honestly Ares said get Sundaras, so imma get EITHER 712s or Sundaras

young pecan
#

But generally they’re better at the direct comparison stuff.

#

sigh No, do not.

cursive summit
#

Meh I prefer neutral

young pecan
#

And you don’t even know what they sound like, you’re going off someone else’s word.

#

Do not.

#

Go find a pair and listen to them.

cursive summit
#

But yeah I'll defo go to an audio shop

young pecan
#

First hand experience. I’ve tried all 3 of those phones myself.

cursive summit
#

Before buying

#

I'd be a retard not to try them out before buying

young pecan
#

I can tell you the K712s don’t sound as intimate since they’re reference, the Sundaras are only good if on sale with mods, and the Sennheisers fall into the same category.

#

Neutral noise is nice, yes.

#

But you’re better off getting something more expensive than Sundaras or K712 for that.

#

I’d go for Planars with a good solid state amp if you want that.

#

You won’t get what you want out of dynamics.

cursive summit
#

I'm planning to get a DAC with those knobs

#

For EQing

young pecan
#

Why not just run EQAPO?

#

Same function, just software.

cursive summit
#

I dislike running software in the background

young pecan
#

Then the DAC will cost you hundreds extra.

#

Then you need a good amp, which is hundreds more.

chrome estuary
#

What do you think of the BTR5?

#

Also they already have a Heresy combo (I think)

cursive summit
young pecan
#

Mhmm, for a good one with nice EQ controls.

cursive summit
#

Second hand market is overpopulated with DACs

#

And you can get some high end shit for pennies

#

Honestly we even have a lot of DIY DACs and AMPs for sale lul

young pecan
#

Look, you seem to have no idea what you’re doing.

#

That’s the long and short of it.

#

From what I see you have zero idea on what it is you’re supposed to be looking for.

#

Go reassess your goals and set a price target and effort target.

#

It’s a common fuckup, but first go try some phones in a store.

#

Check a bunch of price ranges, see what you like, and follow it up with fact checked research.

#

Don’t listen to shit anyone else says, take suggestions for exactly that, and go do what sounds good to you.

#

The most you should be taking from anyone else is suggestions for headphones and experience with them, looking for build quality and the like.

#

Buying headphones is entirely subjective.

cursive summit
#

Yeah I think I already made up my mind before you interrupted it lul

young pecan
#

Indeed, and that sounds like the end of that, no?

cursive summit
#

And I got no clue wtf are you talking about when I from the very beginning said: I will go to an audio shop and find out

#

Your advice: go to an audio shop

#

So, what's the problem? lul

young pecan
#

Take a fifth of what I said, alright.

#

Also cool.

cursive summit
#

Nothing of what you really said is something I haven't heard of before

young pecan
#

Coolio.

cursive summit
#

No offense taken, no offense intended

#

Just, really, I made up my mind lul

young pecan
#

Exactly, so head out to that audio store.

#

Try on some 8 grand phones and feel sad.

#

Everyone does it.

cursive summit
#
  1. I doubt it
young pecan
#

The allure of something more expensive than almost all first cars is too much.

#

You listen to them once and feel this pull. The longing to own them.

#

And then you feel big depresso.

cursive summit
#

I kinda doubt that ngl

#

It'll be hard to part with these cans cause they already feel great

#

Nothing can really be so much better that I'd want them

young pecan
#

shrugs Not my problem.

#

All I can tell you is there’s something so very good about a really nicely made product.

#

Random Ford versus Ferrari.

#

Same deal.

#

The Ford will be nice and it’ll work, but that’s a ferrari. It’s in an entirely different league.

#

And for headphones? The massively wide soundstage that’s so big that you feel like you’re in a concert hall when your eyes are closed, the crisp production that feels so nice and premium, every little detail hidden in the songs that you could have sworn you knew before, and the lyrics that’re so smooth that the music sounds entirely different.

You listen to a high end pair of headphones and the listening experience is entirely different.
Ferrari versus Ford.

cursive summit
#

I'm just happy to be able to drive lul

#

Also why'd you own a Ferrari over a good Ford when the rari will just get jacked

#

Against Sundaras are unrivaled in value up to what, 700$ or so

#

Up until like LCD-2s yeah

#

They have their tiny faults but they are technologically superior to anything else up until that price point

#

Does that mean they are the best? Fuck no, it's all subjective

#

You can spend a grand and be unhappy with your purchase

#

Again for me I think my ears mostly appreciate the spatial factor

#

When the sound pops off and sounds like it's around me, that gives me a whole lot of cool emotions

young pecan
#

shrugs Pog.

#

Still, there’s something to be said for lack of experience.

#

You’ve not used the more expensive pairs, no?

#

8k+, that kind of insane range.

#

(For the whole setup, amp and all)

cursive summit
#

I live in Klaipėda

#

A coastal city with population of 140.000

#

We have NO audio shops here

#

Not a single one

#

The next two bigger cities is Kaunas and Vilnius

#

Kaunas has like, also no audio shops

#

The only other one is Vilnius and that one has like 1 audio shop

young pecan
#

How the hell are there zero audio shops with 140k people?

#

The fuck?

cursive summit
#

And it's covid rn so borders are closed

#

Can't travel beyond city limits

young pecan
#

In Aussieland some places with 20k or so have audio shops.

#

140k? Jeez.

cursive summit
#

We have audio shops, but for instruments

#

Hi-fi audio shops are only in like a few places, in the capital lul

young pecan
#

Anywho, I’m gonna assume you speak not having experience.

cursive summit
#

300kms away

#

Yeah I got no experience

young pecan
#

Once you get to use a high end system that’s complete you’ll know.

cursive summit
#

Cause no audio shops lul

young pecan
#

But until you have that experience you have no idea.

#

It’s like any advanced experience in life, you won’t know what the fuss is about until you do it, y’know?

#

144Hz gaming, fast cars, gambling, extremely good audio, skydiving.

#

They’re all experiences you can’t think about or describe until you do them.

cursive summit
#

I was genuinely thinking of opening an audio business here

young pecan
#

Not a bad idea.

cursive summit
#

Dunno, might need to follow up on that

young pecan
#

Lack of competition and whatnot.

#

Can’t get much more fertile ground.

#

Mmm. What would you try selling?

#

Hifi stuff, or something else? Custom solutions?

cursive summit
#

Two biggest search engines

#

For prices

#

Nothing

#

So yeah there's money to be made here lul

young pecan
#

Y’know what’s horrible about hifi?

#

It ruins bad audio for you.

#

Badly encoded MP3s become aids cancer whereas before they’d be doable if annoying.

cursive summit
#

So like normal keebs vs mechanical keebs?

#

I actually don't have that

#

I can use 5$ keebs no problem

#

They feel bad but eh

#

Wooting is great but not that great

young pecan
#

Wooting is mid end.

#

Very niche use mid end, but mid end nonetheless.

#

It’s advantage is that it’s analogue, what you’re thinking would more be completely custom switches built around the person.

#

That kind of thing would ruin cheap keyboards entirely.

young pecan
#

Wym 2005?

#

You do realise that a vast majority of people use Spotify which is MP3?

#

Depresso, but that’s how it be.

reef patrol
#

Spotify uses OGG my dude.

young pecan
#

No shit?

#

Consider me corrected.

#

Pog.

#

Lmao

young pecan
#

Personally I’m tempted into just rejoining Redacted and taking all of their music.

#

Or maybe going through SoulSeek again.

#

SoulSeek is great and needs more love.

#

SoulSeek I find is better for obscure stuff.

#

But otherwise yeah, you right.

#

There’s always that one rando in SoulSeek that happens to have the esoteric weird collection in perfect FLAC.

#

Lmao

ashen spindle

that's a thing here actually, phones from carriers, bundles with plans

young pecan

I purchased a Roomba a little while ago and it arrived fucked.

#

#

The part was fucked.

#

Got annoyed again and they sent a replacement Roomba entirely.

#

Replacement Roomba was also fucked.

#

Me:

#

Though with that said I've managed to repair both, but there's not a fucking chance I'll actually tell them that.

reef tundra
#

Just don't get caught, Micky doesn't have to money to afford the best lawyer again this time

shadow minnow
#

I mean, can they straight up sue you for it?

reef tundra
#

Technically it would be falling under the broad umbrella term of fraud

shadow minnow
young pecan
#

Not quite fraud.

#

I have warranty and it was broken when I claimed it.

#

They didn't ask for it back and I asked what I should do.

#

They said nothing.

reef tundra
#

Doubt they want to even pressue that option. Legal costs would be more than the parts are worth

young pecan
#

So I used the power of Right to Repair (eventually) and fixed it myself. :P

#

Had to take a sensor pad out and replace it.

#

Required some cable fuckaround, the only reason I managed to do it was Marketplace having a for parts sale.

#

Ripped the bin sensor out and replaced it.

#

A rando pad sensor.

reef tundra
#

Sensor that senses things

young pecan
#

Not super certain which one it is specifically.

#

But it does sense things, yes.

#

Found a broken cleaning head and I took a functioning one out.

#

Cost me $20 for what amounts to a $130 part. :)

reef tundra
#

I dunno, google the serial codes on the parts?

#

The part that senses things

young pecan
#

Locke, the cleaning head has a sensor for checking how full the bin is.

#

I had to take the sensor out and replace it with one from a functioning model.

#

shrugs Idk.

#

I just swapped the component.

#

Maybe a few grams?

reef tundra
#

Go ask roomba if you need to know

young pecan
#

You know I don't actually know the schematics off by heart?

solemn compass
#

lol

young pecan
#

Idk, could be infrared, could be something else.

#

I didn't need to know what it was, 4head.

#

I had 2 cleaning heads, one of which had a functioning sensor.

#

I simply pulled one out and put it in the other.

#

And thus had one working cleaning head.

reef tundra
#

If it has the same sku it should work fine, unless the manufacturer is being a dick

young pecan
#

I should also specify I never asked for a replacement part.

#

All I did was report issues with the model and the next message I got was an AusPost tracking number.

#

They didn't even ask for pics or verification.

#

Ebay tho.

reef tundra
#

Atleast they have decent costumer service 🤷‍♂️

young pecan
#

I mean... there's that.

solemn compass
#

if you didn't fix it, they would've send a third one i guess lol

young pecan
#

They haven't responded to my recent message.

reef tundra
#

Oh Ebay.... I know why they went out of their way to please you

young pecan
#

So maybe they will.

reef tundra
#

One bad review can break their profitability for the week

young pecan
#

Oh?

reef tundra
#

Same with Amazon. If you are not the top few results, preferably the top result you are getting little to no traffic. To be on that top, reviews from customers are a big factor in that calculations. One bad review usually means you need 20 positive reviews to balance that out again.

From a few people that did formerly business on those kinds of sites, they all told the same thing. Shit margins, bad reviews are really bad, don't ever begin. I had many requests to leave a false positive review for like 10 to 20 eur.

But bigger dies will be taller off the board as well as wider.

#

And wide dies don't make a heap of sense outside of TR, and we already know that design there isn't working with closer clustered dies.

#

TR already had warping issues with lower power components.

#

Ergo dies are likely taller.

reef tundra
#

For thermal performance you want surface area to be as large is possible

young pecan
#

Mhmm, and when your dies are so hot that it warps the IHS it's not a good idea.

hard thicket
#

warping the IHS ? you cant even cause that much heat without the safety features going off

young pecan
#

Over time.

#

Very slow warping.

reef tundra
#

Doubt it would be possible, almost all semiconductors have thermal runaway protection. At least everything from voltage regulators to mosfets.

young pecan
#

It's like flection based damage in phones.

reef tundra
#

You mean like delamination?

young pecan
#

Kinda.

hard thicket
#

highly doubt it, copper can easily handle 200ish celsius without giving a fuck

young pecan
#

You do know that metals don't work like that?

hard thicket
#

i work in the metal industry.

young pecan
#

Yes, copper can handle 200c, but slow change over time causes very small problems.

#

Unfortunately it's an issue with CPUs at year type scales.

#

AMD already had to contend with it for original TR.

reef tundra
#

You mean as the material expands and shrinks?

young pecan
#

Kinda.

#

That and another thing, I'll need to check OG TR details again.

#

But I remember it being a problem.

reef tundra
#

You could check to see if it passes bios. Given you have enough parts to pass the initial test.

ashen spindle

The ISP should just be the messenger in the situation. They receive notice, they pass along

i only use corsair and bequiet in customer builds

never had an issue or rma

and ive been doing this for a solid 7yrs

#

8yrs

#

smth around that time

reef tundra
#

So to your experience they work fine and should do their job for a long time?

fair gull
#

from my experience yes

#

this one is very oversized for the job tho

#

could prob easily go with 200w less

reef patrol
#

For sure.

#

Used to run a 9900K and a 2080 on a 650W xD

fair gull
#

maybe even 300

reef patrol
#

A Titanium one admittedly but...

#

But in these times whatever PSU you can get is... whatever you get.

fair gull

im not to worried since the guy is constantly adding shit to his build anyway

in a few weeks he prob calls and wants to switch gpu again

#

wouldnt surprise me

#

altho idk what devil rode me to put a slightly modified 5500xt into his prebuilt hp

#

the fanshroud of his gpu saw 1 or 2 dremels already

reef tundra
#

Good to know, I'm pretty paranoid when it comes to choosing power supplies in general. All I know is to not go cheap with them, they might take more shit to the grave than themselves when they fail. If not outright catch fire. Tend to avoid brands that market themselves as gaming, especially.

fair gull
#

eh in my experience corsair and bequiet are rather reputable for psus since pmuch all their psus have at least 80plus bronze rating so if anything its people going way over the limits

#

if it says 550w and has 80+ silver or smth it def wont deliver full 550w

#

so u usually choose the right head room for expanding without replacing the cpu and plan in some extra useable watts in case u need more

#

the most worrying part for me is sff case and the liquid cooler

#

never did sff and never used that liquid cooler

#

but from reviews both are rather good

#

Looked through the emails and currently my machine is running with a Be quiet! PURE POWER 11 700W CM.

fair gull

Whatever cables are still unused will just be hidden away and out of sight, hehe

fair gull

if its modular u shouldnt have unused cables

Yea, like they wont take advantage of peoples ignorance

crisp granite
chrome estuary
#

The company I work for was pretty good until the owner and creator passed away. Then his wife and kid took over and it's kinda gone to shit. I mean it's still a massive international company but around here it feels like they're running off the feeling of, "Yeah it's a great place to work for." from when the original owner was alive... Now it's bad.

reef tundra
#

Well not everyone knows the contract, tax code and legal code from back to front

crisp granite
chrome estuary
#

Cause most people you talk to around here will say, "Yeah isn't it a great place to work?" because they heard about it from people who worked there something like 9 years ago before the original owner died.

reef tundra
#

My advice is for everyone to join a union and double check with them regularly what the boss claims to be the law

reef tundra
#

US, especially the companies, are actively union busting

#

See, amazon

chrome estuary
#

Amazon is Apple but in the US

#

wage cage, the new fucking "Mental Integrity" box thing.

#

They've also got the same issue my place does. Your break starts and the first place you can actually take your break is a 5+ minute walk away. So you get there and go to relax and then you have to rush back to your work space because it's another 5+ min walk back

crisp granite
#

if it's in a large facility, that's to be expected tbh

chrome estuary
#

yeah but the problem is they keep adding complications and don't account for them in the break and lunch times.

#

We get 2 20min paid breaks and 1 30min paid lunch.
We get 5 minutes to get in and out of the gowning room (I work in a clean room).
Now we can only have 10 people in the gowning room at once, people will forget to fob in and fob out, they'll just blatantly ignore it, etc etc.

So to get to the cafeteria... It's a 3-5 minute walk there, not to include the fact you've probably already waited 2-3 minutes to simply get into the gowning room. Then however long it takes to get your lunch and eat it before the 3-5 minute walk back. Then the 3-5 minute wait to get into the gowning room plus however long it takes you to get gowned up, wash your hands, and get back to your work space.

crisp granite
#

so

#

a good portion of your breaks is simply getting in and out of the cleanroom

chrome estuary
#

yep

open dagger
#

atleast its paid tho

chrome estuary
#

shit i meant unpaid lunch

#

i don't know why i wrote paid

#

but yeah the breaks are paid

fickle ore
#

yeah those terms sounded good..

chrome estuary
#

but when you spend a part of your break simply waiting for it to get started

crisp granite
#

I mean...I would say "eat in the cleanroom" but that is just a really bad idea

chrome estuary
#

yeah funny.

reef tundra
#

I only count personal time where I dont have to think or do anything for the job to be part of my break

chrome estuary
#

Yeah we're not supposed to but I do.

#

I go out to my car on break. Plus I take my lunch and 2nd break together to give me a total of 55min.

I usually leave about 5min before my break actually is supposed to begin because of how long it can take to get out of the room.

reef tundra
#

Here that would be all on your own time

#

as an break is defined as taking a break with the intent to continue afterwards

#

I remember one supervisor complaining one time that I took too often or too long breaks.

#

Just told him to check the backlog of the day and if he had questions to ask the other supervisor

#

Ended that shift mostly deep cleaning the machine and roam around the factory floor

#

Anyone had to deal with incompetent technicians?

reef tundra
#

They give themselves an break each hour :)

#

Pretty good working conditions in terms of hours

chrome estuary
#
#

i'm seriously considering snagging this

#

I want a gaming laptop for when i go to my buddy's place and other shit like that.

reef tundra
#

Thats pricey pepesweat

chrome estuary
#

actually...

#

that's cheap

reef tundra
#

Not caught up much with laptop pricing but do see why it would warrant the price tag. Especially considering now.

More of a desktop for performance, laptop for typing kind of guy.

You could also get one of those external GPUs connected through usb-c.

Unless im expecting to use it daily and need that power on the go. I would find it too much to get it. But if you really want one and believe it to be the best solution to your needs. Go for it

chrome estuary
#

I'd like to upgrade my desktop's GPU (and likely will) but the issue is my desktop is way too much to carry around if i'm heading to a buddy's place for a few days. I want something powerful that I can easily pick up and go

#

but as we all know, getting a new GPU is practically impossible right now.

reef tundra
#

Its fine for most people

chrome estuary
#

the mobile 3060 ain't bad. I'd really like the mobile 3070 but I'm not really looking to spend 600-1000$ more on it

timid chasm

FullHD though? I mean, it's a small screen size so the pixels will be nowhere near as pronounced as on a desktop screen

#

But not even QHD

But yeah top of the line CPU and a great GPU for that price, is defo worth getting

chrome estuary
#

yeah but the 3060 already has some troubles hither and thither with modern games at 1080

cursive summit
#

?

#

No?

chrome estuary
#

yeah

#

well at ultra at least

#

and even then

#

i should say, "new games" not "modern"

#

but that's because new games are demanding fucking 8gb vram and shit

cursive summit
#

Eh

#

You want too much for that price lul

crisp granite
#

to be fair, it's mainly the new games with ray tracing

#

I can't even get 60 fps with maxed settings at 1080p with my desktop 3070

gotta use DLSS for a good framerate

That's how it's always been.

#

New fancy tech. Not practical for years.

#

T&L etc...

crisp granite

well

hopefully I can get a 60 FPS experience with cyberpunk in the future without DLSS

#

DLSS just makes the game way too bright compared to without

also does some weird shit with car brake lights

cursive summit
#

Early VR had very niche adoption

#

Nowadays it's quite practical

crisp granite
#

not really

still way too expensive for most

cursive summit
#

I mean just like PC components are way too damn expensive

#

Even at MSRP

crisp granite
#

not really tbh

#

compared to 2016 levels, sure

cursive summit
#

Yes really

#

400$ for a good usable VR device

#

400$ for a good card

#

?

crisp granite
#

that's fair to me

#

that GPU is gonna see use regardless of being for VR or traditional games

#

for VR headsets, I could see myself using one for 2-3 games at most

reef tundra
#

Probably have to look around the xrandr documentation

crisp granite
#

true that

#

but

#

for now, it's a damn good card

#

and it's clear that cyberpunk just sucks in that regard

I get 100 FPS with maxed settings and no DLSS in metro exodus enhanced

I got the ability to process lactose, but there was a period of a few years when I was 10 or so

#

when I couldn't

#

I remember sipping cow juice before bed and nearly dying on the shitter the next day

#

and well, milk did that to me for about 2 years

#

then it just kinda...stopped

reef tundra
#

Some madlad made a virus to make him lactose tolerant again, well atleast as long as the bacteria dont all die out

crisp granite
#

hm

#

very possible

#

considering that was truly the worst period of my life

#

10-12,13ish

#

Lactose is hard to process for the body. It doesnt like to break down easily

#

Stress does weaken the immune system

#

either causing it to go overboard or do fuck all

crisp granite
#

yep

#

started getting nasty ass sneezing fits whenever I walked near freshly cut grass as well

#

around the age of 11 iirc

#

still start sneezing and feeling awful if I get too close

reef tundra
#

I developed an odd allergic/just odd thing that my eyes would water suddenly around autumn

#

Just appeared in my teens and continued for a few years

#

stopped and never came back

I'm not actually looking forward to having a reason to upgrade my CPU again, though

reef tundra
#

But what if Lisa Su will sit on you?

#

Fucking AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOSes are still not ready

#

Haven't even tuned this thing yet

reef tundra
#

Maybe this will help with the lack of tuning

#

I like to say clear from bios, I will fuck it up and I will kill it with a screwdriver

Oh?

#

...

#

How much cache does one even need for gaming?

#

Pretty sure we’ve reached the point of diminishing returns.

#

At least on DDR4 and unoptimised programming.

zenith sonnet
#

I'm pretty sure Ryzen is just about touching the sweet spot

young pecan
#

^

#

Take a 3950X, that has 64 megabytes or cache.

#

That’s... that’s a lot of cache, even for 16 cores.

astral haven
#

3950x has 16mb of cache

#

x4

#

not 64mb

#

the difference is massive between the two

young pecan
#

I am aware the cache is split between dies, yes.

#

But core for core there's still a monstrous amount of cache in there, even when you include the whole CCX thing.

FSR is here
Now I want screenshot comparisons
And try it out myself

young pecan
#

And this is for AM5, we think?

#

Assuming the earlier render is correct it'd explain, at least in part, why the IHS was so tall.

young pecan
#

Mmmm, that is interesting.
