#

trying to cram everything into a thin bezel is pretty neat

ashen spindle
#

hows the shape of the motherboard related to the bezel size?

wheat plume
#

no no
the motherboard is going around the camera assembly like a bezel goes around a screen

#

like the edges of a square

reef patrol
#

That's neat

surreal thorn

frozen ingot

I mean its neat, but not that amazing, most motherboards in compact electronics end up with weird shapes to make use of every nanometer of space inside

But I guess that's to accommodate for the massive camera system

I just mounted and hooked up an old TV I wasnt using to my pc for a third monitor. Its 1080p and released in 2010 (46" if it matters). for the most part the picture looks great, at least for 1080p. But I discovered that sometimes when I launch a game, or even try to full screen a small vid (such as dragging a window and fullscreening the video without maximizing the window) it will glitch the pixels on the screen to be very blurry. First image attached is TV, second is monitor. It's like every other pixel is missing? The leading egde of my cursor is white and moving it along the screen makes it flash. The easiest way I have found to fix it is by changing the display scaling in nvidia app

#

How do you update ffmpeg on Debian?

#

I can just download a deb but that's gross.

wheat plume
#

Guessing you want a newer version than whats in the repo?

#

Deb is probably the only way unless someone made a backport PPA

iron wave
#

I want 8.1.1 or whatever the latest is.

fair gull
#

just build from src ez

iron wave
#

That's a higher maintenance problem.

fair gull
#

not rly

#

make the script once and its basically done forever

#
rm -rf nv-codec-headers
git clone https://github.com/FFmpeg/nv-codec-headers
cd nv-codec-headers
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

cd ..
rm -rf ffmpeg-8.0.1
wget https://ffmpeg.org/releases/ffmpeg-8.0.1.tar.bz2
tar xjf ffmpeg-8.0.1.tar.bz2
rm ffmpeg-8.0.1.tar.bz2
cd ffmpeg-8.0.1
./configure --enable-libvmaf --enable-libaom --enable-cuda --enable-version3
make -j8
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

this is all i did and i couldnt be arsed to automate it further by reading in the version number for example. normally you also prob dont need nv coded headers this was just so i can enable cuda

#

and yes you can also just make it place a link in /usr/bin to point to whatever you just compiled

iron wave
#

Eh, I'll just do it manually I guess.

fair gull
#

ffmpeg only really gets annoying once you need specific modules that you also need to compile or pull (like libvmaf and cuda libs)

iron wave
#

I need CUDA and such. :-/

fair gull
#

i mean my script includes cuda

#

so

#

just remove libvmaf and libaom

#

done

#

libaom is mainly for av1

#

just changed the version number to 8.1.1 (and vmaf to 3.10 but its adifferent script) and done

#

seems ffmpeg has its own install hooks so you dont need to do manual linking in /usr/bin or such

iron wave
#

Some people said I can do some stuff with apt but it doesn't seem to work. :-(

fair gull
#

if you find someone who compiles it and publishes it on their own apt repo sure

Your air-gapped servers are covered by a faraday cage, you think you're safe from key exfiltration? You fool.

UK orders have been shipping today, apparently.

Mine hasn't been marked as dispatched, but the EU courier is reportedly slow.

wheat plume
#

im an EU order, and mine got dispatched on Wednesday

before my friend who ordered hers at the same time as me, hers only dispatched on Saturday

thick elk

Mine actually got dispatched on thursday then again Netherlands so 24 hour shipping it is.

wheat plume
#

all my shipments need to go either through the UK or around the UK .-.

lethal maple
#

asked this in the other channel but I have a reservation down that was a bite late. Ive read of stutter in the Gyros so I was wondering if anyone who has one could speak on that

#

was curious if I should commit that reservation to a purchase

thick elk
#

In case people want my experience with it:
Really quite similar to the steam deck just a bit more ergonomic.
Really do like my left trackpad aim right stick to move which is easy enough to set up.
Grip sense is quite useless at the moment for me, maybe they can change sensitivity but the way I hold it it will randomly trigger.

Steam's overlay and input kind of not working great not storing settings when saved in game laggy overlay for menu's.
My workaround has been launching steam in game scope in big picture mode, works like a charm.

As for gyro problems not had any but use trackpads more.

if you want a controller get it, if you dont like it return it

Fusion 360 deals with meshes well enough for what it is worth

‼️🚨 ALARMING: Google now treats privacy as suspicious behavior by default. Users of GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS, and other deGoogled Android phones are being locked out of millions of websites unless they install the exact Google Play Services software they deliberately removed.

GrapheneOS is recommended by the EFF and used by journalists, lawyers, and activists in high-risk environments. The audience most likely to read Google's data practices and refuse its terms is now flagged as fraudulent for that exact decision.

What happened?:
▪️ Google announced "Cloud Fraud Defense" at Cloud Next on April 22-23, 2026, branding it "the next evolution of reCAPTCHA." Existing reCAPTCHA customers were auto-migrated.
▪️ When the system flags traffic as suspicious, the old click-the-bus puzzle is gone. Users get a QR code instead.
▪️ Scanning the QR code requires Google Play Services running on the device. Internet Archive snapshots show this requirement has been…

#

I'm not really sure what I can do without losing data in truenas

iron wave
#

How many drives?

#

Well.

pale sigil
#

1x8tb Is used right now and there are 2x4tb drives spare

iron wave
#

You can make a one drive pool with ZFS, use the auto expand flag, move the data over, add a drive, move data over, add a drive, etc..

pale sigil
#

mergerfs I read is an option but I just don't know how it'll work for me

I want to get something like this.

pale sigil

But ye I'll probably do that nown

#

Merge the 2x4TB drives

#

Add new root library, move a ton of films etc to the new drives and so the default location is still the 8tb

#

Should on theory still be able to manage stuff

iron wave
#

Here I am with 2 drive fault tolerance and cold spares and you are just going to stripe two drives.

pale sigil
#

It's just media

I don't care

I agree with that we have rights in the eu, but there’s plenty of examples where getting your right takes a load of time

And unless you have a lawyer/insurance you’ll be going back and forth for days/weeks/months

sullen bear

Yeah and i have it, doesnt mean everyone can shell out another 30/month for a lawyer insurance

#

And without one, good luck

Well I'm currently using a Noctua U14S on a 5800x3d

Probably won't upgrade until AM6 X3D

I’m giving my friend my burner pc, all it needs is a new motherboard, should he just spend like the $80-110 on a motherboard or spend like $240 and get a new cpu and motherboard

#

it’s i7 7700k and I told him that he should consider getting a 5600 and a new motherboard but idk if that’s valid or not or if there’s better

gusty kiln
#

7700k is like the bare minimum nowadays

#

Depends on what games he plays

Don't get a 5600

They are also trying to stay on ddr4 so the only real upgrade would be a 5800x3d 10th anniversary or a used 12900k on a ddr4 mobo

entirely depends on budget and what the games are

mortal swallow
#

uhh mc Roblox random pc friend slop games

#

it has a 3070 so probably some story games? He plays 1080p

mortal swallow
#

either way he has to get a new motherboard, and it’s hard to find a cheap lga 1151 motherboard, so I was asking if it’s more worth it to just spend the extra hundred and get a better cpu and motherboard

#

I’m upgrading in a few months and I’d slide him my 5800x.

#

I mean then it depends on if he wants to spend more to have a better option the months later I suppose?

#

and if he wants to deal with selling the used board if he sticks to 1151

#

atm getting a 5500 is probably the only okay value for am4 new

surreal thorn
#

idk about val

#

but in 1080p it is a bit more cpu heavy
