But all you have to do is push the module into the case

That's a lot of effort.

#

But I guess that just means Amazon have to pay customers for Motherboard replacements, and have some internal procedure changes.

#

I've said it before and I'll say it again - They are being far too lazy and lax with just assuming returns are ready for immediate resale, and it hurts customers thinking they're buying something factory new (and paying the price)

i have to agree on that nyaTired

I've felt this way for a long time, but for the past month I've kept a journal where I put an "X" next to every date where a GitHub outage has negatively impacted my ability to work. Almost every day has an X. On the day I am writing this post, I've been unable to do any PR review for ~2 hours because there is a GitHub Actions outage. This is no longer a place for serious work if it just blocks you out for hours per day, every day.

until I removed the earphone and heard the ventirad turning like crazy and the heat coming from the case

I thought it was the gpu first but no it is the cpu

I just dont like doing the paste thing again but after almost 5 years guess it is time

heady hazel

what are the idle temps?

lapis plaza

wait

between 59 and 65

heady hazel

thats not outrageous depending on if you use wallpaperengine etc

lapis plaza

well I dont it is just dowloading a game on steam at the same time

steady sail
lapis plaza

oh wait if I stop downloading

steady sail

If you stop the download your temps should go down

lapis plaza

yeah I relaunched pragmata while I stopped dowloading

heady hazel

i see 55 at "idle" on my 5900x so 60s on a 5600x is a bit high

steady sail

You can say its the paste but you could just clean the pc as well

Im idle at 45-50c with a 5800x3d

ashen spindle

whatever the thermal limit set in bios is

probably 95

lapis plaza

steady sail

I could undervolt my 5800x3d but i don’t think its matter that much

ashen spindle
#

the only difference is, it's harder kill a cpu with lower voltage vs higher voltage compared to stock

heady hazel
#

pretty much yes , i wonder if someone fried his cpu undervolting

ashen spindle
#

but you can get instability and damage on the cpu by undervolting too because you change the voltage spikes and behavior on load/idle

heady hazel

i guess it depends on the motherboard aswell , asrock used to melt cpus on stock settings

My issue with premium peripherals is that input APIs haven't caught up. Back buttons on a controller, for example, should give you additional binds directly usable in-game instead of needing to use system-level utilities to map an existing bind to them. Same for gaming mice with thumb buttons, anything more than two thumb buttons is useless without that bind mapping out-of-game. SwitchySippy

But there were parts available during support period, and 3rd parties had access to original parts they could copy, and not figure out on their own
But for example take iPhone, where Apple doesn't provide replacement screens for customers, only for authorized repair shops, so I wouldn't count that as repairable

sullen bear
lapis plaza

ashen spindle

its not different from just going to any bank or online brooker with a deposit that gets you 3% or more and then just change to keep the higher %

misty bronze
#

knuckles aren't the most reputable for durability, and it doesn't help that it'll be difficult to get proper support on them now

crystal orbit
#

If I get a usb c adapter to lightning can I then connect it to my iPhone and it would work sorry for asking here I didn’t know where to ask (wooting uwu)

misty bronze
#

my knuckles are horribly drifting and it's really a matter of time for it to drift with those joycon joysticks

mild dome
ashen spindle
#

wait for the frame imo

misty bronze
#

they specifically asked for a lighthouse controller so i just assumed they already have a different headset

#

and already have base stations

mild dome
#

I've already got the lighthouses, so waiting for the frame is a bit silly

#

Would you recommend the flipvr or gripvr? I suppose it depends on the games you play, but might as well ask

crystal orbit
misty bronze
#

i haven't used either of them for extended time, only really tried it at demoes before

#

that being said, i think flipvr is the more versatile one for social vr, and also just using your keyboard and stuff for example

#

can't speak for if it's good for intense sessions in boneworks or something

#

another consideration is just using vive or tundra trackers on some other solution

#

i'm personally going to get the frame and probably never use my index and base stations again

ashen spindle
#

my recommendation is still waiting for the frame even if someone has base stations, can always just sell them

misty bronze
mild dome
#

Why should I wait for the Steam Frame? For the inside out tracking?

misty bronze
#

imo just a more seamless and convenient experience

#

convenience is really significant to how often you'll end up actually getting in vr in my experience

ashen spindle
#

better all around experience unless you have like one of the tethered super expensive things like the pimax crystal for racing sims or such

worn marlin
#

i do think most controllers are made with men in mind though

mild dome
#

I have purchased the Pimax.

I have also backed the Fluxpose, but that (hopefully) will arrive later in the year. I presume I could maybe use the Fluxpose to entirely replace the lighthouses later on.

misty bronze
#

unfortunately that's the more common demogrpahic for these products so yeah

misty bronze
#

eventually using fluxpose tracked controllers could be a very nice option too

#

i think index controller might make sense if it's as a temporary solution until fluxpose or frame or whatever arrives

mild dome
#

Can the fluxpose replace the lighthouses for tracking, or would it still need it for the VR goggles to act as a reference point?

misty bronze
#

the headset needs to track itself somehow

#

so if the headset can only track off of lighthouse you'll need lighthouse still

#

if the headset is self tracking via cameras, then fluxpose can replace all other tracking

#

fluxpose tracks off of the beacon which is suppose to act as your hip tracker, so the beacon needs a reference point to base all other tracking off which'll be your headset, so with fluxpose you put one tracker on the headset

tribal dirge
#

but the lighthouse knows where it is relative to your body

#

because it has its own tracking via gyro and IMU

#

and then the sensors around your body track themselves relative to the beacon on your hip

misty bronze
#

the beacon doesn't track itself

tribal dirge
#

all fluxpose needs to know is your body XY pose and your individual tracker XY pose in the coordinate space of the beacon

misty bronze
#

yes i explained how it works above, your statement on beacon tracking via gyro and imu is inaccurate

tribal dirge
#

strange, so if its all realtive to beacon for the smaller trackers, how does it do whole body XY translation?

#

or XYZ for that matter plus pitch yaw and roll

misty bronze
#

i explained just above

tribal dirge
misty bronze
#

yes

tribal dirge
#

using the coordinate space of the headset and transforms it into its own coordinate space?

misty bronze
#

something like that, the fluxpose trackers only knows its position relative to the beacon, and therefore relative to each other

mild dome
#

Maybe I should've bought the Pimax SLAM version, but then again they seem to be having some delays with that model

AnyhooI I think, I've got a spot where I can just leave the base stations

tribal dirge
#

using a transformation matrx?

tribal dirge
#

which is all relative to headset

misty bronze
#

yes it works very well

#

but the headset still does need to be tracked, so if the headset can't track itself, you'll still need lighthouses

mild dome
#

So if I am getting the Fluxpose, should I still consider the flip/gripvr or aim for something else?

misty bronze
#

if you're keeping around the lighthouse regardless due to the headset, there isn't that much reason to rush to have your controllers tracked by fluxpose

tribal dirge
misty bronze
tribal dirge
#

Because it's genuinely an interesting problem that they solved here

misty bronze
#

you just put a tracker on the headset

tribal dirge
mild dome
#

Suppose I just gotta decide if I want the Grip or Flip from shiftfall

tribal dirge
#

In order to create the transformation matrix

misty bronze
#

the beacon knows where the headset is relative to itself because of a tracker on the headset

#

that means the beacon also knows where itself is relative to the headset

#

and if it knows where the headset is it can figure out the rest

tribal dirge
#

Let's imagine a hypothetical scenario where you only moved your hips but your head stayed absolutely still

#

The only way that you can create a new transformation matrix is to get positional data from the beacon itself

#

Relative to the still movement of the headset

misty bronze
#

i'm not exactly sure which part you're confused about, the beacon just knows it moved relative to the headset

#

and if the headset, which is tracked separately, isn't moving

#

that means the beacon is the one that's moving

misty bronze
#

??

tribal dirge
# misty bronze ??

By mechanism I mean what is it doing between the headset and beacon? Is it cameras? IMUs? Or SLAM?

misty bronze
#

with the same mechanism as all the other trackers

#

like i said like 3 times now, you place one of the tracker on the headset

tribal dirge
#

😭

misty bronze
tribal dirge
#

Mb bro

misty bronze
#

imu trackers are nowhere near accurate enough

#

standalone headsets are all slam tracked as far as i know

tribal dirge
#

Ok I see how it works now

#

Makes a lot more sense

here are examples of how it'd be mounted

distant tapir
tribal dirge
#

Heck 44.1k is the standard

#

For 95% of content out there on the internet

#

And actually if you ran the dongle at a diff sampling rate than the source then it has to be re-sampled by the audio API which introduces loss of detail.

misty bronze
#

games and stuff are usually 48 iirc

#

anyways it doesn't matter

tribal dirge
vivid wigeon
misty bronze

if you got more than 44.1k you shouldn't be worrying

vivid wigeon

for some professional applications you'd use 96khz

distant tapir

That's for mixing

misty bronze

higher can makes sense if it's source audio meant for mixing

tribal dirge
vivid wigeon
#

idk i have mine set to 48khz because games yes but i'm not sure if the apple dongle has both that and 44.1khz as options

misty bronze

i believe with phones they just output whatever the source is

distant tapir
#

96 kHz is very pointless for playback. Higher can even potentially be harmful

tribal dirge
#

Lighting version is 48K only

vivid wigeon

i mean in general the cs31993 dongles are just higher build quality than the apple one (at least the one i have) and cost the same + support more bit rates and sample rates so it's kind of a no brainer imo

craggy harness
lapis plaza
#

Honestly peace in the world will never happen when you see people going tribal for a controller 😭

misty bronze
#

i find symmetrical to be more versatile for conventionally non controller games

#

as in, when i play soundvoltex on controller

#

the joysticks becomes the knob and doesn't really make sense being asym

lapis plaza
#

There is a reason for the asymetrical design you want the button on the right side at the same level as the left stick

misty bronze
#

for games that is played like that sure it might be considered better, but there are also games where you play mainly with both joysticks or dpad and face buttons

craggy harness
#

symmetrical allows you to operate everything without releasing any of the 2 sticks, while on an asymmetrical one you'll always have to let go of one of the 2 sticks to operate the D-pad, so it's quite simple which is superior per design 😄

misty bronze
#

how do you use the dpad without releasing sticks on either

craggy harness
misty bronze
#

#

right i've seen some people do that

vagrant pagoda

misty bronze

don't know arma enough to know the significance of that and foot pedals

vagrant pagoda

misty bronze

intriguing

vagrant pagoda

use it in arma and tarkov

misty bronze

how does it handle that api wise?

vagrant pagoda

you set it in controls like any other control

misty bronze

xinput doesn't have enough axis assuming the rest is used for the usual right

i see

vagrant pagoda

why would you use xinput for something that isnt a xbox controller?

#

xinput literally emulates a xbox controller

misty bronze
#

you're right, not familiar enough with racing rigs

vagrant pagoda
#

it isnt a racing game

misty bronze
#

i assumed you use pedals from one though?

vagrant pagoda
#

no

misty bronze

are there readily available analog foot pedals out there?

vagrant pagoda
#

i use flight sim rudder pedals

misty bronze
#

oh

#

i'm just not familiar enough with the sim hardware game i guess

vagrant pagoda
#

you want symmetrical pedals, driving pedals arent

#

xinput is only for making a device work with a console port game that dosent have actual joystick support

#

any good pc game will support directinput

misty bronze
#

is analog leaning actually significant in that game?

#

my experience with leaning was when pubg was good(or less bad) and the meta was to just spam them to make head shots harder lol

vagrant pagoda
#

i mean you have to lean in steps or lean+mouse wheel

#

arma is realism not arcade shooter

misty bronze
#

oh so you just don't get a choice in that sense

vagrant pagoda
#

you cant just wiggle lean, there is aceleration and decel on movment

misty bronze
#

i don't think pubg is typically considered an arcade shooter too, but maybe comparatively it is

vagrant pagoda
#

pubg is closer to arcade than realism

nimble arch

vagrant pagoda

misty bronze

so cs2 got closer to realism with that logic

misty bronze

actually not the shoulder swapping part, so do you switch which side you hold the gun on
