#

I'm baffled these are still used wtf

wheat plume
#

even my HP Omen needs it

#

.-.

#

and it's PSU has the worst coil whine ever :/

pale sigil
#

I haven't had a monitor that uses these since like 2011

crimson wigeon
#

It's so they can cheap out on some certification thing

pale sigil
#

Oh

wheat plume
#

I need to use headphones when using this monitor otherwise the coil whine from its PSU brick gives me a headache

pale sigil
#

You're a strange one.

steep creek
#

O wow

umbral heron
#

Aren't we all? duck_bopping

steep creek
#

My monitor also has an external psu but I havenโ€™t noticed any coil whine from it

#

Itโ€™s kinda annoying for cable management however

wheat plume
#

Yeh....the brick for mine is almost falling off the back of my desk cause the cable from the brick to the monitor isn't long enough to rest the brick on the ground instead and I don't want the brick hanging halfway to the ground and pulling on the monitor connection

steep creek
#

Aha yea I need an extension cord for mine to avoid it pulling

wheat plume
#

Mine is on an extension cable already .-.

steep creek
#

lol I see

wheat plume
#

Only two plugs in the room and they are at the opposite wall to my desk

#

Which fucking sucks

MSI Claw is a great advertisement for the ROG Ally :')

#

Cause the Ally is better and cheaper

umbral heron
#

MSI Claw is a perfect allegory of what state MSI is in nowadays

wheat plume
#

True...

#

At least it doesnt melt SD cards like the Ally, well AFAIK so far

#

no one bought it so the sample space is small

wheat plume
#

Apparently you need to Dock the MSI Claw and use a 100W or higher charger in order to update the Claw BIOS

#

Which means, you cant use the charger it comes with to update the BIOS

balmy vector
#

Truly the most amazing designed product

Steam Deck gets better FPS in Cyberpunk than the Claw apparently

crimson wigeon
#

Damn deck got some consistent framerates there

vagrant pagoda
#

Wonder if that's Linux or just deck hardware

wheat plume
#

Id say its GameScope

#

GameScope + Wayland

#

cause playing games in desktop mode on the Deck IMO so far is not smooth feeling, it gets over 60FPS but it doesnt feel smooth

#

and desktop mode uses KWIN and X11

frozen ingot
#

I haven't seen a monitor with a proper 3-pin in a long time

ashen spindle
#

its absolutely the hardware has nothign to do with gamescope

#

if MTLs LPE-cores just fuck up lows

wheat plume
#

the lows are good on the Deck, its shit on the Claw though

balmy vector
#

Id cry if i had to play that on the claw

vagrant pagoda
#

But the lows are massively different

ashen spindle
#

sure but the reason claw has such super bad lows is because of meteor lakes tiles

#

then the deck has van gogh which has much better scaling at low power which is where most of the other parts come from

#

better uncore compared to phoenix

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah but the deck vs the other amd is the big deal

ashen spindle
#

yeah and thats still 90% because of hardware I would say

vagrant pagoda
#

But even with 30w ally isn't competing

#

That isnt really low power

Can someone help me. Iโ€™ve had this issue way before getting a wooting. Basically, if I unplug my keyboard and then plug it back in, it doesnโ€™t work. Iโ€™ve tried different cables, usb ports, bought new keyboards, Iโ€™ve tried doing the power management stuff, everything. Iโ€™m getting annoying and need help

Ok buy why are you unplugging your keyboard mid usage

umbral heron

So problem with keyboard HID driver most likely
Uninstalling keyboards in Device Manager and reboot to force Windows to reinstall should help
For Linux that may be a problem with udev

#

I just uninstalled the root hub, going to restart the pc then leave my keyboard u plugged for 10 mins or so and see if it works when I plug it back in

It really does seem like the only thing it's useful for on the mass market is filling in missing information, cleaning up noise, plagiarism, or spouting insane misinformation

if they are angled its curled

wheat plume

idk how to type these ones

steep creek

pretty sure even my professor mixes between those

ashen spindle

doesn that text snipped even say the non curly ones are the correct ones?

wheat plume

they arent the correct ones .-.

#

the manager is dumb

the code wont work in the database, clearly

but he dont know that yet

fair gull

i mean we dont have the rest of the text so we only know some parts use the curly ones

#

not if that should be the case or not

ashen spindle
#

it says these are correct unless there is a part missing that curly ones are supposed to be used for something else

fair gull
#

the thing is the sentence is a but sentence and we dont have the end of it

#

all we know is that " is correct BUT some parts use โ€œ smth smth smth smth

#

also typing curly quotes depends on OS and keymap

ashen spindle

theres no universal way to type them

so

ashen spindle

so you press ctrl f or whatever the key is in your texteditor and do a replace all

fair gull

โ€œ โ€ this is opening and closing curly

wheat plume
#

The issue is that the manager wants us to use the curled ones

#

.-.

fair gull
#

what

#

it says to not use them right there

wheat plume
#

I sent the file with the code through phind to see what the issue was when trying to import it .-.

and it told me this about the code having the curled qoutes

rough patrol

Your manager wants you to use quotes that wont work?

steep creek
fair gull
#

not beta anymore?

#

despite the bugs?

#

oh boi

steep creek
#

i got the 1.0 update couple hours ago

#

i notice some bugs but at least now it lets me install extensions ,,

fair gull
#

also url bar still only allowed to be in the top

#

no little arc

#

extensions like bitwarden still dont work properly with hotkeys

steep creek
#

yea mac arc vs windows arc is so different rn

fair gull
#

random crashes when opening new tabs

#

like the win version imo is still far from release ready

steep creek
#

my ublock refused to work in my study profile up until today lol

#

yea agree its not 1.0 worthy yet

fair gull
#

extensions trying to open a window for settings or such also still sometimes open in fullscreen no matter how you previously resized them

#

pip sometimes resizes to minimum size cause why not

#

multi window doesnt start properly with the previous spaces but all in the first available space

steep creek
#

yeah and also the way extensions open is a bit weird imo, the x to close them was invisible for me

#

also downloads list remains and i cant find any way to clear it, despite doing so in file explorer

fair gull
#

you have to hide it in arc

#

by clicking the 3 dots and say hide from arc

#

oh on the topic of download... sad arc on windows doesnt have the archive icon bottom left where downloads are on macos... and starting a download forces ALL arc windows to the front

steep creek
#

yea i miss archive button after using the macos version

fair gull
#

also context menu still isnt populated with options for me

#

like new window

#

a very complex option

#

and a new bug i just noticed... closing a multi window process and restarting it sometimes only opens 1 window at a random location of the previous ones

steep creek
#

yea and stuff is just a bit messy, like to change the downloads directory you have to go to arc chrome settings cant remember the link, should just be in the browser settings

steep creek
fair gull
#

its arc://settings

steep creek
#

yep that was it

#

one small thing is when i enter fullscreen on a youtube video, the cursor does not disappear

fair gull
#

ah great i just figured out that the shortcuts work if you set them to global instead of in chromium

cant see this going wrong at all

astral haven

how do you not make an account?

steep creek

you cant

fair gull

needs an arc account

astral haven
#

fantastic

fair gull
#

also dont think thisll change since its the same on macos since forever

steep creek
#

yea they seem pretty fixed on that

#

despite the bugs i still prefer to use arc on windows tbh

fair gull
#

yeah its also my prefered browser despite having used firefox for ages

#

and waterfox at some point

steep creek
#

yeah i used firefox at some point, switched to brave and now arc

fair gull
#

i never made the switch to another chromium browser

#

mainly cause chrome never worked on my pc

astral haven
#

except arc

fair gull
#

first tab didnt load until i opened a second tab

fair gull
steep creek
#

i just did because of oryx configurator, requires chromium, and had some weird hiccups with firefox at times

#

yea on macos its my favorite, stopped using safari because of arc

fair gull
#

also love the default sidebar tabs and how pinning and folders work

#

no fiddling with settings or such to get it to work this way

steep creek
#

yeah thats really nice

fair gull
#

but its also why i hate arc on win cause the url bar at the top is space wasted imo

astral haven
#

how does it work with multimonitor?

steep creek
#

i think they will fix / change it at some point for windows

fair gull
#

sure hope so

steep creek
fair gull
#

also only got my 32:9

astral haven
fair gull
#

no

#

each window has a sidebar

#

and windows can have the same space or different spaces open

#

basically allows stuff like this

#

ofc the tabs sync between the windows if i open a new one in one of them

#

since its the same space

#

(those videos played separately)

#

i think the main feature i like the most is the auto PIP mode for videos so i can watch while browsing other tabs

astral haven
#

I wish i could try it without an account

fair gull
#

i mean

#

just us ea 10min mail to make the account

#

nothing is stored in it unless you activate the sync

steep creek
#

yea was about to say use a throwaway or something

astral haven
#

I more meant convenience wise

fair gull
#

oh yeah but like i said dont think itll vanish any time soon

#

they use it for arc sync and easel (i dont think easel is available on arc on windows). other than that its for bug report feedback and informing about updates etc

astral haven
#

id happily have signed in with google SSO if they had it, but i just dont want to bother with creating an account and filling everything out

#

also passwords ๐Ÿคข

steep creek
#

yea it would be nice if it supported sign in with google / apple or passkeys tbh

#

here we go again...

fair gull

there is a difference

wheat plume

if we have to get a damn microscope to see the difference, thats a bad font

analog sinew
fair gull
#

the main issue is curled quotes are rarely used these days

wheat plume
#

LOL

astral haven
#

since they are mostly used interchangeably, its a miracle they are even different in the font to begin with

wheat plume
#

Yea, I had to copy them from your previous messages cause I have no idea how to even type them

fair gull
#

like curled quotes have a use in proper text writing as they denote where a quote starts and ends better than straight ones

#

since they curle toward the quoted text

wheat plume
#

yeah, ive seen them used as such before in books and shit

#

especially if the character is saying a quote, so the curly ones are used for what the character says

fair gull
#

but in programming and other normal communications these days they arent used at all

#

unless you use word

#

ms word will make em nice sub and sup curled quotes

hmmm... more reasonable would be a script to emulate the hid code

no

#

use f13 to f24 if you wanna map extra functions via macros or such

cold talon
#

you really think thats enough keys?

#

hold on i have an idea...

#

ok yeah no i actually tried with a different keyboard. If i send the hid code it doesn't know about to "press any key to bind" it just ignores that hid code instead of binding it... i guess it isn't just any key to bind that i can press, only supported keys can be bound.... ugh

i mean i suppose i could layer the fn13-24 with alt/ctrl/shift to get 6*12 extra keys.... But i only have 40 slots for combination sends...

#

i just want to bind hid code 237 (bluetooth key) to my keyboard and i can't.... sad

#

yes i know this is stupid but i still wish i could XD

fair gull
#

237 (0xed) is media volume up

cold talon

cold talon
#

115 is volume up

#

ah true, hid events aren't linux input events... huh so i guess i need to emulate a layer lower....

fair gull
#

pretty sure USB doesnt even define an HID scan code for bluetooth

#

unless its some custom usage page

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah it appears to be for laptops that have fancy fn keys

cold talon
#

Different question: Is keypad clear something that i can bind?

fair gull
#

yeah in those cases the driver usually does a translation

fair gull
cold talon
#

well yes but it does have valid hid codes

fair gull
#

correct but we dont implement them

#

pretty sure it would require another usage page and show up as yet another keyboard

cold talon
#

oh, at that point: why does consumer control show up twice, is that needed for the different layers or what is going on here?

fair gull
#

different consumer control pages

interesting how it registers multiple times for various functions. It makes sense but i didn't know USB supports that over the same device ID for effectively multiple inputs

fair gull
#

i mean thats sort of the magic of USB

#

also a downside

#

some people have so many usb devices that our keyboard pretenting to be multiple is too many

#

so 1 or more of their other USB devices dont work

#

until the unplug the keyboard

cold talon
#

i'd have expected multiple device IDs kinda like pci iommu stuff works: controller:device:component

#

(which itself is a pain if you do gpu passthrough)

Anything more than 8-bit color is unnecessary anyways, full 24-bit rgb gadgets don't represent the peak era of gaming when we didn't yet have microtransactions

Does discord void session tokens/cookies after you reset your password๐Ÿ’€

supple nest
#

Probably not, discord security is a joke

charred nexus
supple nest
#

Most of those aren't trying their hardest to have you store CC information on them.

#

Fair tho

charred nexus
#

But I agree that discord is a security nightmare for a service that have your cc details stored

fair gull
#

resetting the password automatically invalidates all previously valid tokens

#

also unsure how user tokens mean discord security is a joke

#

basically the same exploit worked (maybe still does) for steam

#

the only security flaw with login tokens sits infront of the computer

marsh pewter
#

these days most scam servers that steal your account use a fake verification bot that shows a login qr code

#

you have to be pretty dense to scan a login qr code

marsh glade
#

We ban 1-5 accounts per day of people who have fallen for precisely that

It's funny too because those verification bots are for the horny kind of guilds. So they self report themselves as being horny

At least now we automod those posts so nobody sees them other than mods
