Can anyone here help me troubleshoot an issue with my GPU?

#

Turned it on and monitor wouldnt turn on, not getting any signal. Boots fine if I plug the monitor into the MOBO instead of the GPU. The GPU is on though, the lights are on and the fans are moving, but the computer says the GPU is not detected. I tried to update the Nvidia drivers thinking maybe its a driver issue but I can't do that because it doesnt detect the GPU.

#

I'm gonna open the PC now and make sure it's slotted in properly, other than that, not really sure what else to try.

#

Yeah I tried all of them

#

HDMI and DP

#

on 2 monitors

#

ill give that a shot

#

weird, it literally was working fine yesterday when i shut it down and everything

#

It seems like it may have been a physical thing, its detecteed now and am trying to see if it completes this driver update

#

I just opened the PC and pushed down on the GPU to make sure it was slotted in properly

#

Really strange because I don't move my GPU and I have a sag bracket so behooves me how it got disconnected

#

We are back in business. Strange, unsure on if I should be concerned or not yet so well see if it happens again lmao

7800XT being popular makes no sense, GRE is just better

ashen spindle

cheaper, in stock, more models, one retailer

Price difference in mindfactory is 50 euros, that's more than worth it for better performance

There's half as much GRE models than XT it seems, but still a good selection

lyric hatch

what's steams total monthly average users 120 million?

cursive summit
#

Wasn't it like 40

#

Or was that concurrent

#

Ah that was concurrent

ashen spindle
#

it's also known it has issues counting some amd gpus accurately, as you can see theres almost no rdna3 on the list yet that sells way better than rdna2

#

and I doubt those are cards that go into non steam machines a lot lol

lyric hatch
#

sells way better according to who

ashen spindle

amd's earnings reports

cursive summit

Do those include Mi accelerators?

ashen spindle
#

...

#

take a guess if they put hyperscalers sales into client numbers

cursive summit
#

I have doubts RDNA3 sells well, better than RDNA2 especially

#

Not with all the negative stuff around RDNA3

ashen spindle
#

DIY isnt leading sales and ODMs dont matter much for low idle power or whatever

cursive summit
#

I fail to see where Radeon is selling

rough patrol
#

My case is kinda small and i have no clearance for all those new giant gpus fuck

lyric hatch
#

"AMD says that gaming revenue dropped by 17% in 2023 versus 2022. But that's entirely down to slowing sales of games consoles, primarily the Sony PS5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X and S, all of which are powered by AMD chips and are now beginning to age.

According to AMD's CEO Lisa Su (via Motley Fool), that declining console business, "was partially offset by increased sales of Radeon GPUs. In Gaming Graphics, revenue grew both year over year and sequentially, driven by strong demand in the channel for both our Radeon 6000 and Radeon 7000 series GPUs."

But she didn't say by how much. Without being overly cynical, we suspect that's because growth was modest. AMD would surely show off about the specifics, otherwise. Indeed, were the growth in Radeon sales fairly spectacular, you might expect it to entirely offset the dip in console silicon sales. But it hasn't. So it very likely isn't."

cursive summit
#

Prebuilts are very Nvidia

#

DIY is heavily Nvidia, like 80/20 ratio market split

#

Where on earth is AMD selling better

rough patrol
#

Why are all the new gpus hotter than the sun and need a cooler accordingly

cursive summit
#

We need a new Nano

#

Strix Halo could honestly be the reincarnation of Nano lol

#

If RDNA4 doesn't give us a new Nano

lyric hatch
#

but the 4070 super which just came out is already nearly beating it

ashen spindle
#

yeah but I dont see any other rdna3 card on the list

lyric hatch
#

probably because they ain't selling that well

cursive summit
#

Which is sad cause mid-range was always the one that sells most

#

And Nvidias mid-range is godawful ass

lyric hatch
#

honestly I think if you really wanted a bang for your buck card one of the RDNA 2 cards second hand is a better option than mid range RDNA 3

cursive summit
#

RDNA2 hasn't fallen in price that much

#

And there are some good software features that RDNA3 offers that are hard to skimp on

#

GRE is looking great, though I have to contain myself until Computex lol

I doubt the price of the company (even in its current state) is worth whatever R&D they have on producing blocks. Corsair already has their own, and are clearly cutting corners on them as is. No premium product line.

Hey I got a Wooting TwoHE a week ago and the keyboard sometimes disconnects randomly for no reason, and when I move the cable with my hand it goes back working and another move with my hand it disconnects and it stabilizes after some time but happens again next day for example.

When I got the keyboard and connected the cable to it, it didnt go fully in, in the picture attached, this is as far as I can push the USB-C cable. Is that normal? Could it be the cause of this issue?

misty saffron

terse walrus
#

alright

#

i got an idea and i dont really know the feasability of it because i don't really have specs of the wooting PCB to know what i can and can not cut out

#

but basically

ashen spindle
#

github has 3d files for the wootings if you need sizes

terse walrus
#

we're going further beyond that

#

alright so

#

dark evil plan

#

i have the misfortune of being really into ergo keyboards, specifically this ergo keyboard

#

this, unfortunately, is a membrane, and other ergo mech keyboards kind of suck because they're too ergo or have a weird spacebar that I dont really fuck with

#

so; the plan

#

design a PCB for this to lay underneath to drop the hall effect switches in

#

connect that PCB to the wooting chipset that was cut out

#

???

#

and then profit

analog sinew
terse walrus
#

also probably have the arrow keys and numpad become detachable or something but thats definitely a whole other can of worms

#

but yeah

#

i dont know enough about how wootings board is laid out in order to pull this BS off

ashen spindle
#

im not sure you can just copy and move it around tbh

terse walrus
#

well i'm almost certain that the hall switches are a must

#

because that's "wired" to the chipset and all of that

#

but i'm trying to figure out what else is necessary per key

analog sinew
#

i imagine the repositioning would mess with noise and the multiplexers

terse walrus
#

repositioning?

analog sinew
#

cant imagine this to work without a major overhaul

terse walrus
#

well yeah'

ashen spindle
#

the switch is just a magnet the sensors are on the board

analog sinew
#

that is to say

#

you are building a he keyboard more or less from scratch

terse walrus
#

so i'd have to remove the sensors from the pcb and place them on the new one

#

oh yeah

#

definitely from scratch

#

question then becomes how much of a pain it is to get them off the PCB

#

if even possible

ashen spindle
#

I'm more concerned if different layout would even work if the firmware expects a certain pattern

terse walrus
#

i'd have to emulate the wiring of the wooting on the new pcb

#

basically everything but the chips

#

the new PCB is shaped to fit the ergo keyboard thats being gutted

analog sinew
#

the assembly is probably less of a problem than the electronic and software

terse walrus
#

hrm

#

well

#

thats why im somewhat curious as to where the chips are on the PCB

#

ideally it'd be just carving those out and then wiring the custom PCB to it

#

but if those chips are in like the worst possible position im probably going to suffer greatly

wheat plume
cursive summit

It's just arm

steep creek
#

I’m fine with arm macs because the os and lots of apps are already well optimized for it but yea

wheat plume
cursive summit

steep creek
#

For now I’ll steer away from arm computers except macs

cursive summit
#

I see no reason why Microsoft wants to bother making Windows optimized for ARM

wheat plume
#

Fair enough

They are more focused on pushing ads and other bloat no one wants onto the OS while doing fuck all to make the core experience better

cursive summit
#

Like, fair, Windows on ARM is supposedly running natively

#

But I bet a lot of functions are still optimized for x86

#

And apps are too, mostly x86

#

ARM cannot compete with native x86 apps by emulating them for ARM, you lose a lot of perf there

#

Like the Apple emu toolkit they released, everyone thought it'd be amazing, gaming on apple is finally a thing

#

3000$ M2 Ultra or whatever can barely run games at 1440p while emulating them via the rosetta toolkit lol havo

steep creek
cursive summit
#

It's not even funny how ARM NEEDS native apps

Idk why you'd even want to bother as a developer to even do native apps for ARM though

steep creek
#

Is possible when companies use your computer and you discontinue the intel macs dogekek

cursive summit
#

Snapdragon on Windows will be like 0.1% of marketshare lol, nobody's going to care outside of big developers like Blender who just do it cause why not

steep creek
#

But ms won’t drop support for x86 so yea

cursive summit
#

Didn't they already do that

#

Ah it was Intel

#

Which makes sense I suppose?

#

Windows 10 though doesn't run on 32bit CPUs

steep creek
#

X86-s just drops support for anything other than 64bit and 32bit apps afaik

#

So it will still support windows just fine

cursive summit
#

Yeah and the rest is like emulated or something?

#

It's not that they are dropping compatibility, just instruction set support or something

steep creek
#

Yea I think you can emulate but support is dropped

ashen spindle
#

x86-s is not going to change anything for users aside from old dos users and custom os devs, also no performance chanages it just cuts down validation time mostly

#

enduser relevance likely not there

#

and MS has a boner for making windows on arms for whatever reason

#

but arm still isn't better or worse than x86, the snapdragon laptops are not better or worse just because they are arm based

distant tapir
distant tapir

I use a 360hz TN panel and it honestly beats any CRT for motion clarity, especially since phosphor afterglow is a factor that people conveniently like to not mention with CRTs

distant tapir

You use strobing I assume?

smoky frigate
#

naw, sample and hold is good enough at this hz

distant tapir
#

Otherwise it's not even close.

smoky frigate
#

if you say so. I used them not too long ago and this is definitely better. not to mention it's quite a bit better in all its features except viewing angles

#

you get better colors, sharpness, VRR, equal or better motion clarity, and it's not old shit that will die unless maintained

trust me, you are not missing much

ignoring those Trinitron wires 1/3rd into the vertical image is also an effort when looking at a bright image tbh

i mean im glad i put crts behind me long ago

aint ever gonna lug 2 crts to a lan party ever again

smoky frigate

they were better than LCDs for quite a long time actually, but those times are gone

#

also you know what happens if you run them at high pixel clocks? they fucking die in a few months

distant tapir
fair gull
#

cant really say upgrading from whatever lcd i had to oled was all that much worth it

smoky frigate
distant tapir
smoky frigate
#

don't get me wrong, I love the technology, but PC monitors in particular are destined for landfills imo

distant tapir
#

And the ability to run at different resolutions without pixel layout fuckery will always be a nice thing.

smoky frigate
#

moving bright elements left a very obvious afterglow in my units. maybe it's due to the age of the phosphor, I don't know. playing with resolutions is nice, but high front and back porch will make them die sooner. and if playing it safe is better, then that advantage evaporates

#

they definitely felt worse than I remembered them feeling from the early 2000s. but since none are made anymore, it's not like that can be restored.

#

using them is still fun, but I would be hard-pressed to find objective metrics where they're better

#

and fun is a good enough reason ofc

If I had a bunch of retro game consoles I could justify getting one

why not?

My power supply 4070 z790m has sound

ashen spindle

latent mural

#

I thought the B760M would have no sound

ashen spindle
#

why did you think that

latent mural
#

The Z790M AORUS ELITE AX is cheaper than the other Z790, probably because it saves materials

#

This is machine translation. I hope you understand

ashen spindle
#

yes translation is fine

#

coil whine can happen on any component though

latent mural
#

My chassis is matx, I don't need much expansion

ashen spindle
#

it just depends, some are more noticeable than others, sometimes you can fix it by just lowering max fps, or glue down the moving parts and make sure its screwed in well

latent mural
#

I didn't have a lot of problems installing computers four years ago, probably because I didn't install them myself

#

The Z790M AORUS ELITE AX has a sound There are a lot of entries on the Internet, probably the problem of things

vagrant pagoda
#

higher switching freqencys reduce cap/coil size, but decrease vrm efficiency due to swtiching losses

#

so there is sadly a sweet spot right at 10-20khz so that caps/coil are small enough to package for smt, and the vrm is efficient

Defrauding implies a malicious intent, where this appears to be a case of negligence and poor planning (and failing to ensure you have a wallet capable of handling the lack of liquidity for a longer period)
