seems they dont have any 7840hs alone benchmarks so i substituted the z1e which is a 7840hs with the ai accelerator cut off

all of their 7840hs have dgpus

also remember the m2 is a drastically larger chip, which means swapping their production they reserved at tsmc from 7840hs to m2 would have decreased the size of the chip, tho potentially if they swapped in their own gpu (for that sweet sweet prores acceleration) it might have ended up the same size

Like Intel decided to destroy ice lake by making it only a quad core
Tiger lake was just an ice lake refresh
And Intel's p cores are really really not good anymore (at least efficiency wise) and they hadn't properly figured how to make hybrid work
AMD just came in like how about we just do everything all at once
The only problem with AMD is that they just have so many bugs with all their stuff but AMD doesn't write the software for Macs...

And they are already using an rdna GPU and they have metal drivers for it

Apple just didn't want to do another transition and so they decided that instead of going for the better choice they would just do some really good marketing and it worked

And of course they did have some good ideas
Put actual usable amounts of cache on a CPU like Intel and AMD have been doing for years
And actually use the simd extensions
But AMD and Intel have been doing this for 10 years now
Apple just capitalized on Intel throwing their entire everything at getting 10nm and AMD having really atrociously awful marketing at least in the consumer space

Like I don't blame people for buying the Apple stuff
As long as you buy all of the Apple accessories, the iCloud backups and the iPhone it's a good product

It's not substantially faster than anything else you can get

i have a bluetooth to toslink adapter going to a second ultramatch (a lower spec one) for my phone
then i have a toslink running directly to my pc to skip the resamplers
i have all 3 of these toslinks going into a motu lp32 where they all get mixed together so i can listen to my phone and whatever is on my screen at the same time

and all of it is pure digital mixing

It's the same "bug" as Nvidia. 2 monitors triggers a higher power state. You can force it back to lowest power state. Nvidia had the same issue on the 3000 series.

The only additional component that have to be powered on for a second monitor is a DSP, which should be <5W.

The huge increase in power is from an overcompensation in the GPU power state management system.

Nvidia took 4 months to patch it, you could fix it by using third party utils to manually set power states.

If I drop the refresh rate on one of my monitors by a bit, it drops back down to idle states.
