- all their nfts projects werre shit financially
so they won't pull a konami
Yeah it slaps even without having the one big standout like devil may cry has, it’s just great all around
And we almost didn’t get this OST if soken hadn’t won against his cancer few years ago
Nice
Acronis? Isn't that software?
So they just give you a subscription or something?
Motherclucker, elaborate@pale sigil
Licenses keys they have stocked up and need to sell most likely
ig?
So it’s just a deal that makes the sad cheaper and you can just ignore the software
so you prob get a year of a backup software
you won't use
realistically
even if you want backup software
please don't use acronis
Yeah but it’s cheaper than without lol
they have proprietary formats
yes
macrium at least lets you use their free tool to recover backups etc
Buy two, 2TB instead.
But I'm trying to keep it for a bed
Would cost more ATM
But also I already have a 1tb nvme
Would last you longer.
Do you actually need more or do you just wish you had it because it’s so cheap now
Not really worried about longevity
I'm maxed out on 3tb rn
It's frustrating
But no I don't need
Hence me saying I would if I didn't have to spend it elsewhere
Sister: "them headphones you gave me were good but I've seen better"
No fucking shit they are ATH m50xs

Then she argued saying about vinyl sounding better and that's why people get it... I said well yes but it's heavily overrated on how it "sounds better"
And most people buy because cool
And then she said to mum you could get a Bluetooth one
yooo mansen sup?

All I was trying to say is I always wanted a vinyl player but now I feel cringe getting one because it's become cool again and I don't wanna be labeled
make sure its one that can support the weight you need
might cost more but better to pay up and have it not wobble and also include safety features so you cant break anything when you make it go down
Any cheap one will handle having a desktop PC (a heavy one) and monitors.
SITTING on it while adjusting the height however...
to get the same aesthetic an vinyl just lay a tortilla over a hamster powered lazy Susan
handle yes, but the cheaper ones that only have one metal bar instead of two will wobble so much more
or be ready to sent it back after assembly and put it back xD
Oh yeah sure - Unscrewing a table sized anything and sending it back. As if anyone, least of all Pleasant would do that 😄
of course xD
why cant native package managers give this option too?
this is flatpak app from Discover
pacman should only leave leftovers in home, as intended
pacman won't delete your home config files
i guess there's a switch, but use it with caution
uhu that now it
wait no thats not files
sounds very dangerous
don't do -c
there is -n for removing .config files for the app
-c will remove all deps including the ones that are still used
yeah...
does -s just remove shit thats not used once that app is gone?
ive used that flag a few times and it seemed to want to remove X session for Firefox....
so I said no to that
as i said, i don't think pacman is ever meant to touch your home folder, it just wouldn't make sense
hmm, dont completely agree, but its dangerous
waka waka
Im looking for any leftover files from EasyEffects but found this instead....
wtf I install using EAC?
Apex.... ooooohhh right xd
so strange to see this lol

Do they all show up in explorer individually or as one drive with all their capacity combined?
You would generally not access all of them all at once at full throttle. But yes.
oooohh
Hava
This is amazing
(it jiggles your mouse so your PC doesn't go to sleep)
Truly revolutionary
Can also be used to be sure you're not marked as being idle when you have monitoring software
🤔
just use an ahk script instead of paying for a weird gadget lol
Unless you can't install software
I guess
Dosent work if they can see what you are running
I mean if they have that much control they likely also see if you dont do anything and only jiggle the mouse
It's not there to just leave all day
Some shitty company's will literally penalize you every time your system idles
if they do that as awell as stop giving you rights to install AHK it's either a job where you should not be encouraged to idle because lives depend on you
or you should quit
-c sounds like it removes upwards deps... so the package and whatever used the package u removed
Lol

ah a good dunk on the terrible marketing slides is fun
Should be downright illegal.
yeah.. that was the entire take of that vid.
its a good product though
.. for an apple product..
oh yeah, good product, costs a lot, illegal level marketing
no replacable storage is still bonkers imho
yeah that is what leads to pointless discussion where some friend tells me how much better sth apple sth is and when i ask what part or for what use case nothing comes back aside from a 3 times as good in general
summary: good performance, expensive, insanely low powerdraw
not to mention stupid things like never letting the fans run as good as they can just to make it quiet...
its a pro device not a iphone, it doesnt need to be silent...
but no, gotta keep it silent instead of stopping throttling lol
that is a bit strange indeed
Interesting
Starfield wasn't a bad IEM
Moondrop got to Starfield and Starfield 2 faster than Bethesda released their first
and it works on release
Ah come on
Not even a chance
I firmly believe Starfield could have been launched last year to typical status of Bethesda games
But they got told off and now it'll work well out of the box
If I'm wrong then whatever, just Bethesda doing bethesda things again
if the delay would have come after redfall release I would maybe even believe that
as a "hey guys we know this launch sucked, we are making sure the other titles are what we want"
not if the dealy came and then they still let redfall launch how it was
Let's see how it is when reviews come out and what the release looks like
I have many gripes with the game, and performance/stability isn't really one of them
I am rather scared it'll be boring as hell
Is there a price announced ?
Why does SteamOS still load this process?
its not needed at all after the first system boot
the OOBE one anyway
idk what the grub one does
just disable it in systemd if it bothers you
it doesnt, im just curious why it needs to load
I would assume on the steam or arch discord or similar someone might be able to tell you
Didn't see any
*Write that down, cat5e" -sister
it's like she hasn't been living with me my entire life.
bruh we changing channels every time
It was just posted there so it’s easier to not have the same conversation twice
Hahahah
well apple is better at running apps they make that they dont make pc versions of
and its also better at rendering prores (because non apple devices are banned from using it)
NothingOS is doing something really cool
You can turn any quick toggle into a home screen widget
Can someone please provide a solution for this issue? I'm feeling extremely frustrated and desperate. I really need help with this problem.

rocky already replied to you in that thread...
I love how Carl Pei has said he's inspired by old Apple
Not the current one
The one from his childhood where they innovated and had new ideas
Seemed to be choosing his words carefully :')
- 7 years of continuous slowdown of your device to make you buy the next model
just don't update then lol
3 years of updates is nice though so long as the phone is not too low end
the reality is “we’ve put a 7yo soc in our new phone, it already barely works so 2-3 years is all you get”
Yeah I feel the slowdown even after 3 years of updates
My Poco is nowhere near as nimble as it was
And that's a relatively good SoC
Also battery
also storage
Ehhh
That should be not a problem anymore for too long
Depends on the person
EU enforcing replaceable batteries will be a very interesting development
Because a lot of people use cloud stprage
Though I haven't looked at what that bill looks like
Gonna be difficult though to do so, and if done I bet prices will rise
I assume they are just wanting to go back to the era of easily openable backpanels
Maybe 3.5mm will also come back
Apple does have nice pull tabs
not nice enough from my experience
You would be surprised how the lithium based batteries can be abused
Before they give in
But yeah it is best to avoid bending them
Oof
my s21 is on its 3rd major os version and it feels snappier than it did originally lol
took like an entire year of replacing batteries on the 678 series to get a good procedure for them, and it involved minor heat and removing the vibrator thingey below the battery so you could pull straight
and obviously we also refused to do anything with the iphones that were bent
we even had an iphone 8 that got bent
was hard to tell because the back glass was straight, but the frame was definetly bent
wonder if anyone had managed to bend the stainless steel chassis ones?
i mean yes but if jerry rig everything cant bend it by hand, its not a phone issue, its a "you stuck your phone in a press brake" issue
i’ve seen things at repair centers, unfortunately
12 pro bent because somebody has thrown it into a wall, lol
turns out wives can throw something really hard in process of trying to hide something
aint gonna blame the phone for that esp when its not a particularly weak phone

smallish camera sensors, no zoom yea, not sensor matched, no 1tb option, no card slot, no 3.5 jack, no wifi 6e, usb 2, last gen cpu
and its not even cheap
its just not crazy
Yeah
https://m.dpreview.com/articles/7965305413/samsung-unveils-galaxy-s4-zoom-camera-phone-hybrid
When do we get this again
Samsung has officially unveiled the Galazy S4 Zoom - the nearest thing yet to a true camera / phone hybrid. The 'camera side' features a 24-240mm equivalent F3.1-6.3 lens with a zoom ring around the barrel, in front of a 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor. It includes optical image stabilisation, a built-in xenon flash, ISO 100-3200, 4 fps continuous shoo...
tbh my phone has alot longer zoom range with a larger sensor on the main
mine is .6x, 1x, 3x, 10x optical vs the 1x-10x that the s4 is
the xperia 1 v is .7x, 1x, 3.5x-5x
Is there any other phones with 10x lenses other than Samsung Ultra series?
s21u lol
Ah that one too
and the s20u 🤣
with the same goddamn lens in all 4
except on the s22 they slightly decreased the size of the sensor
p40 pro+ seems to have one as well
the f4.9 240mm equivalent lens
Well seems like the S22U/S23U have the same and the S21U has the 240mm
they switched from a 1/3.24" sensor on the 20 and 21 to a 1/3.52" on the 22 and 23
the "change" in focal length is purely equivalent
the equivalent focal length depends on the sensor size too
the sensor is physically like a 40mm focal length or something

Sister is looking at them micro PCs on Amazon
rip nuc
I suggested a micro dell refurb
Because most of the micro PCs on Amazon are shite or fake
what level of perf are they looking for bc the n300 and n305 units are pretty crazy low power
@astral haven basic things
Maybe I should stay out of it
She's looking at a Celeron
Yeah do that
She never learns
Yeah those Apple numbers are super misleading.
The Nvidia memory lawsuit was really stupid.
The 3.5GB VRAM thing or?
nvidia made sense that was literal false specs not just marketing
and technically nvidia was not explicitly stating incorrect information, just omitting a major caviat
and bulldozer wasnt explicitly lying at the time, afterwards however a formal definition for cpu core was legalized to prevent that from happening again lmao
It was a pretty big fucking one - That customers couldn't workaround if memory serves. Couldn't tell games to NOT access that last 512mb of VRAM that utterly sucked, which tanked performance in newer games more than a card with 3½GB of GENUINE VRAM.
🤷 the perf loss in 2022 was not substantial vs the 980 with 4gb
neither can run games at high enough settings or resolutions to care about that .5gb
Brain is running on old data here. I specifically remember there being articles showing that anything that tried to access that last 512mb of VRAM (which was noticeably slower) would tank performance ,specifically because of that. Games didn't know it was a thing, and to avoid it.
it could in theory, but gotta remember the 970 also had cores cut off vs the 980
if you extrapolated core counts + lower clock, it was already supposed to be 20+% slower, and in reality games that didnt hit all 4gb were only 10% ish slower, and the games that did hit all 4 were the ones that ended up 20% slower than the 980
but it cost 60% of the 980
and then that went down to under 50% with the rebate
like the lack of disclosure was awful, but the perf at least was as advertised
Aight. If you say so 😄
Never had one, so I can only rely on my shotty memory and all the drama.
me neither, but i lanned with a friend who had one, and he was very happy
and nowdays they are the only gpu worth buying under $50
Tempted to sell mine but not sure if worth especially the shipping
well if you were playing on triple monitor 1440p the 970 would have bottlenecked hardcore
but anything would
Battlefield 1 is where i learned 4 nonhyperthreaded cores is not enough anymore
oh my god
the 970 is only barely faster than the ally igpu
Kek

In 1979 it was one of the first companies to introduce a hard disk drive form factor compatible with a floppy disk drive, ...

This drive doesnt wanna work today, its being very SASI

Did they make the bubbles larger on NothingOS 2??!!!???!!!\
Id love the device without the light gimmick
This is the only Android phone with even width bezels on all sides of the display and that MAKES ME SO HAPPY
every other Android phone has a thicker bottom bezel compared to the other sides
🤤
so symmetrical
it bothers me
id rather have even bezels than one of them being bigger than the rest
even if they are all large by todays standards
drilled hole in screen though
Yeah my phone has the teardrop notch
and those take up even more screen space :/
I dont either
me either, or notches
mmmh other characteristics
Got to love how there are knockoff Apple Polishing Cloth
When you say supports AAC/SBC your are really saying we actually don't support good codecs.
aac is only alright for iphon
I consider aptx the minimum and ldac as a nice to have
yeah...miss me with the curved edge shit
I wish nothing would start selling in the US
(I say that but my phone has curved edges AND I HATE IT WHNE USING THE CAMERA)
They are
Nothing Phone 2 is in US now
Nice
Nothing phone and the Fair phone are my 2 options now
Since the fair phone wi be coming to the us
Probably won't upgrade for at least 2 years, my a14 still is running strong
I used my note 9 for almost 5 years
In fact I still use it, just not as a daily driver
Probably just would need a battery replacement to get it running again
Easily the best phone Samsung has released period, after the note 9 they stopped doing all the good features like the SD card slot and headphones jack
Headphone jack j can live without, but I do use the hell out of the micro sd
Yea
I don't stream my music, only local files, SD card is a must have if I want to save money
I'm not paying for the 512 or 1tb options of phones when I can get a 1tb micro SD for under 100
I have the snapdragon
🥹
i want it so bad
but i'm dead broke
it was a wooting or skypad, and i got the wooting lol
its gonna be another couple years and a firstborn son before i can afford a skypad
yea
Skypads designs have always looked sick
but there non exclusive drops are so drab

Stock Android is super slick since Material You theme
and the fairfone is painfully slow with awful cameras on top of that
get a phone with overkill battery
im working on year 3 now ending the day with 50%
interesting
seems theres 2 frames
everyone else has structural screens which im not sure is better lol
B-b-but if you could replace the bettery, then the investor's dividends would be 5% smaller
Won't anyone think of the poor multi-billionaires?
the super dumb part is it helps the billionaires too...
the manufacturer is most often the one repairing the devices
and cheaper to repair is also often cheaper to manufacture besides glue
well apple is special
they are not actually using ssds on their machines
they are using the built in ssd controller on their cpu paired with offboard flash
the things that they solder on or add on a card are not ssds
at least starting with m1
Conceivably if people could replace their own batteries they could use a phone for maybe 4-8 years.
The dying battery however forces a 2-4 year life cycle, effectively doubling profits
thats also not true
its also possible to just not overvolt the battery so that it lasts forever
buuuut that would decrease the number on the spec sheet that makes them look good
lithium ion battery backup systems can run for 10k-20k cycles on nmc chemistry but not from 4.2 to 3.5, they use 4.1 to 3.6 which is alot lower capacity
my phone goes up to 4.35
Heat is what kills these batteries isn't it?
It's also worth noting a lot of larger battery arrays lock a percentage of the true capacity away so that as cells begin dying it can start activating the unused cells to give the illusion of a tougher battery. Making it feel like it lasted longer to customers
Which isn't a bad thing, as customers would find consistency of larger batteries in cars and homes to be more critical then getting 100% of the capacity right away and losing that over time
the main killer of batteries is charging,
heat doesnt help when theres too much, but a moderate amount of heat helps decrease the wear on the battery
and the larger battery arrays mostly lock the percentage of capacity via voltage not by spare cells
they do use spare cells ofc because statistics are not on their side
Sequential Read/Write performance reaching up to 560/530 MB/s provides best in class performance via the SATA interface. Accelerated read performance up to 13% faster than 860 QVO for added benefits for everyday computing. 870 QVO provides adequate amount of TBW for daily use, equivalent to 3 bit...
8tb ssd for 320
Anyone here ever had to do an RMA for anything?
Well, 7 months after purchase, I had to RMA my monitor. A defect suddenly manifested.
This is what the defect looked like, for reference:
The photo doesn't truly capture how severe the defect was; the entire screen was a mess.
Anyway... long story short, this was my first ever RMA that I've ever had to do.
Got the ball rolling about 1.5 weeks ago, and have been stuck borrowing a subpar VA panel in the meantime...
I can't even play Planetside 2 right now... the ghosting and motion blur on this borrowed panel is awful.
The replacement monitor started shipping roughly 2 days ago. Current ETA is Thursday.
It's never soon enough; my PS2 addiction is practically screaming at me right now.
Like, the monitor I had was a ViewSonic XG2431 240Hz IPS panel. And during the 7 months I had it, it was a great monitor.
Its strobing backlight feature allowed me to use it for 60Hz console games with almost no motion blur at all, with the standard 240Hz mode being used for my PC games.
I only hope that the replacement lasts a good bit longer than a mere 7 months.
This is the official page for the monitor I had:
https://www.viewsonic.com/global/products/lcd/XG2431
The ViewSonic® XG2431 is a 24” IPS-panel gaming monitor with 1ms response time, a 240Hz refresh rate, and AMD FreeSync technology, providing the perfect blend of speed, hyper-responsive control, and vivid IPS colours. Engineered for hardcore and casual gamers alike, the XG2405's sleek, 3-side borderless, ergonomic design make it the ideal choice...
If I had more money, I might have gone for a 300Hz TN panel. Ah well.
And unfortunately for me, OLEDs are unlikely to be within my budget range in the foreseeable future. No one is building 1080p OLED models, at least. Only 2k or above.
There's apparently no mainstream market left for monitors with reduced resolution, in exchange for much higher refresh rates.
Then again, that sort of thing was something that multisync CRT monitors were known for.
at this point the monitor controller is becoming one of the larger costs in the monitor
as well as the power supply
where the panel really isnt mattering as much
and bigger number of ks looks alot better
It would just be nice if I could get the benefits of a CRT, without having to break the bank with an OLED.
I said the 'benefits.' Ergo, the superb contrast ratio, among other things.
crts have contrast ratios below 700:1
and their response times are not that fast if you include both rise and fall times
lcds just used to be 2-3 orders of magnitude worse than they currently are
Weren't CRTs still good at handling moving scenes in ways that LCDs often have trouble with?
yes, but oleds have the same trouble
unless you strobe
but lcds are better at strobing than oleds
Makes me sad that SED tech died before it could take off.
Specifically, this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface-conduction_electron-emitter_display?useskin=vector
A surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) is a display technology for flat panel displays developed by a number of companies. SEDs use nanoscopic-scale electron emitters to energize colored phosphors and produce an image. In a general sense, a SED consists of a matrix of tiny cathode-ray tubes, each "tube" forming a single sub-pixel on...
nah its good lmao
So utterly close to having a display tech that had a bunch of the strengths of CRTs, while being wayyyyy lighter.
people forget that the actual benefits of the crt were very limited
the true improvements in look from crt were mostly taking advantage of the drawbacks rather than being real benefits
the biggest being true optical anti dither
but thats also in other circles called being blurry
I liked the response times and motion clarity, personally.
the response times were only half good
Part of it was just the nature of how CRTs draw the image, wasn't it?
and the motion clarity gets absolutely slaughtered by tech like ulmb or elmb
Analog electron gun versus fixed-pixel LCDs?
A bit of both, honestly.
LCD response times are at least partly tied to how long it takes for any given pixel to change colour, correct?
the input latency was great, and its just getting to the point of being imperceptible just now
correct
and crts also have the same issue
Well, in any case, I still wouldn't mind a lesser resolution monitor that had kickass refresh rates as its main selling point.
yea but the problem is you dont save any money vs a higher res monitor with lower refresh rates
It's not about saving money. It's about the tradeoffs I'm willing to make; the games I play benefit more from higher refresh rates and better response times.
And better framerates, of course.
No one builds high performance monitors at 720p or lower.
That's what I'm saying here.
And I'd be okay with that, V.
My desk is kinda small anyhow.
yea it would be tiny, and it wouldnt be higher refresh rate or cheaper
...You realise that 720p describes a resolution of 1280×720, right?
practically it would be a 14 inch screen as the practical largest that wouldnt just cause it to cost more than 1080p
The resolution reduction would see some nice framerate gains in the games I play, though.
well [citation needed] on that
Planetside 2 being one of them.
isnt planetside 2 heavily cpu bound???
cause noone is stopping you from buying a 1440p monitor and running it with integer scaling
Yes, but GPU-bound events can still occur, especially if the particle quality is maxed out (tracers stop rendering at short ranges if you don't increase particle quality, and that's a problem if you're trying to walk your tank shots).
It's also hard to make an MMOFPS whose performance remains 'playable' at that scale.
and even if the particle system was on gpu, the shaders used for integer scaling would be sitting idle regardless
Also, I still play the game, and I keep an eye on the performance metrics. There are definitely GPU-bound situations that occur at maximum particle quality in larger fights.
so you can just run integer scaling on the gpu no problemo
Integer scaling is messier, compared to native resolution.
gpu is hitting 99%?
somehow i dont believe that unless you have a potato
no, its significantly cleaner lmao
720p native vs 1440p integer scaled is no contest whatsoever
In heavy fight situations, it absolutely does. Using a Sapphire Pulse RX 6700 non-XT GPU.
uh
wouldnt worry about bleeding edge monitors with a midrange gpu
High refresh rates are still nice to have, even if the framerate doesn't always exceed it.
you should never spend $800 on the display and $300 on the gpu
The ViewSonic I described was on sale.
the viewsonic you described isnt pushing boundries
And for the record, this GPU cost me $587.81 Canadian Dollars (after taxes and shipping fees).
so about $300 of real money, got it /s
For some reason, Canada gets really awful markups for most of the better GPUs.
Like, more than the exchange rate alone would justify.
Don't get me wrong; I'd love to have something better than this particular GPU.
But I took what I could afford.
nothing on pcpp canada seems particularly out of line from what im used to
Anything that exceeds $400 to $500 CAD is very close to the absolute maximum limit of my hobby budget. And even then, it forces me to eat lean for the month.
well sure, but the same would be even more true for a monitor that costs a grand usd lol
spending most of 2k cad on a monitor isnt gonna happen if 500 cad on a gpu is hard
just wait a year for trickle up economics to take effect and the sub $400 us 1440p240hz will come to canada
Realistically speaking, my next upgrade is probably going to be on the CPU side.
that gets you a nice crisp 720p experience in game, and a nice and crisp 1440p experience out of game
not outside of the us lol
Like I said.
But yeah, that hefty 3D V-Cache actually has tangible gains in Planetside 2
People have playtested it, even.
less likely to see those gains the slower the gpu btw
As I said though, the GPU-bound situations occur in specific, heavy load situations.
And in fairness, the only time it really matters, is when I'm flying. For some weird reason, air controls have a tendency to briefly lock up during a GPU load spike.
gpu limited happens more often than gpu bound tho
Hence, why I mentioned the one time it tends to have any real impact.
PS2 flight controls are... weird.
Scroll up.
what i mean by that is that even if your gpu is sitting partially idle, it may still be limiting your performance
I'm referring to how they briefly lock up during load GPU load spikes; 95% to 99% load
And it's weird, because flight controls seem to be the only thing that actually locks up during a GPU load spike in that game. Tank controls don't lock up, infantry controls don't lock up.
And it's not a 'complete' lock up, but more like brief moments where inputs are not read until the load spike resolves.
Which makes for awkward aiming with an ESF (the main VTOL fighter in that game).
you sure its not imc load that is causing you to get hit by iodie bugs?
it will not make the usb disconnect noise when the usb controller reboots
Pretty sure. I had metrics enabled in-game, and consistently observed air controls would be interrupted when the GPU load spiked to 95% to 99%
yea but those numbers can be completely wrong
the only useful metric of actual gpu load is tdp%
The problem goes away if I cap the framerate to a value where 95% to 99% GPU load situations no longer occur.
I'm referring to the 'GPU usage' metric.
yes but gpu usage can be a symptom of the problem, not the causee
It's a known issue for more than just me, though.
remember, a gpu can hit 100% gpu usage while running idle 99.9% of the time
and gpu usage can be under 50% while being by far and away the bottleneck, tho thats significantly harder to do
And again, the utilization spikes occur only in those heavy particle load situations that I've described, where particle quality is maxed, and the fighting is heavy.
I even ran a multitude of loading and stability tests, just to make sure there weren't memory errors taking place.
the game could for example be trying to load an asset from storage, but while its doing that, the gpu pipeline is in a loop waiting, your usage would slam to 99, your power usage would drop to nothing while it stalls, and the bottleneck would be your ssd or your ram
Yes, even the 'torture tests'
The SSD I'm using will definitely be one of the other things I replace with an upgrade.
My current SSD is an Intel 660p series. Not the quickest SSD, but still an order of magnitude faster than the old HDD I used to own, ages ago.
weeeeeeeeeellllllll
thats not always true
the 6x0p series are known for bogging down to below hdd speeds under load
Hence, why I said it's not the quickest. And will definitely be one of the other components that get replaced.
has the cratering prices made it to yall yet
Shorter loading screens are always welcome.
$140 CAD is well within my budget range, thankfully.
not recommending it because its a samsung, but usually the samsung is the top of the price stack of the consumer drives
the sn850x looks sweeet
I try to aim for the best performance I can afford to have.
define best performance lol
Well, for an SSD? Quickest read and write speeds at 2TB capacity that I can afford.
cause the fastest ssd im aware of is only $80 on ebay right now
at least until cxl releases
it definetly isnt 2tb tho lol
That said, I've been considering having a 2nd SSD reserved solely for the OS.
few oses still fit in 16gb lol
unfortunately 16gb is all you get if you want an nvme ramdisk that doesnt lose data on power off
Mostly just thinking that it would be convenient to have the OS on a separate drive, so I don't have to reinstall the entire OS when swapping out the drive I use for 'everything else.'
actually dont its not fast
it does absolutely slaughter in benchmarks tho
Rather, the OS drive doesn't necessarily have to be as blisteringly fast as the drive used for game assets, right?
yea
the real reason to use this drive is its actually stable
aka it doesnt lose data if you leave it sitting on a counter
but its so insanely expensive that its not worth getting unless you are as crazy as me
Well, yes. But having to reinstall the OS every time I upgrade the drive strikes me as... tedious.
In regards to what V said, rather.
but for the price of this drive you could buy a pair of 1tb fast normal ssds tho lmao
which is why i bought 4 of them and raided them together
For some reason, a part of me smiles inside anytime I hear about people with RAID arrays.
did i post menchbarks here?
Just something about it feels... special. Old, but reliable, I guess?
old sure
reliable no chance lol
Rather, RAID was developed a relatively 'long' time ago, correct?
not as long as the wheel, not as recent as stable diffusion
its deprecated is what it is
Wasn't its main purpose to act as a self-redundant drive handler?
raid controllers did that, but we dont use those any more
Interesting.
In any case, any potential drive upgrades will have to wait until I get paid again.
quad optane raid boiz
highly enclosure bottlenecked
each drive can basically run half of that shown benchmark
single drive vs the main drive in my computer
did he buy optane or just nice dc drives?
Is Western Digital a viable brand for an SSD?
That was actually the exact model I was just looking at.
heres a more normal nand ssd for comparison
top 3 numbers higher is better
bottom number lower is better
oooooh dear
Gahhhh, that SN850X is 56% off right now, but I already maxed out my hobby budget for this month.
this is why raid was made irrelevant
a single one of these isnt faster than the fastest network connections, but it doesnt take many...
$154.97 CAD (regular price would be $359.97 CAD).
I'm looking via Newegg Canada directly.
And that price is 'before' taxes and shipping fees, but still!
maybe wd direct is in usd?
newegg has it more expensive
but i cant see the canadian version, i can only see pcpartpicker
PC Part Picker is listing the exact same sale price on my end.
Right down to the last cent.
uBlock Origin blocks the WD link.
yea its a tracking link
i can bypass ublock, but i have it blocked on a network level
I installed uBlock Origin deliberately, though.
🤷 up to you

heres the actual link after looking it up online lol
so yea 135 cad confirmed
1 month delay tho
I presume Newegg Canada lacks this delay.
I dunno.
Oh, hold on.
I just did a price check at the final checkout screen.
After applying taxes and shipping fees, the WD price actually winds up being slightly more expensive.
Ffs
Lovely
WD final price: $174.81 CAD
Newegg Canada final price: $173.57 CAD
That 1 month delay is probably the definitive dealbreaker, regardless.
Anyway, I put that SSD onto my Newegg wishlist. I suspect the sale will end long before I get paid again (next payment is July 19th), but eh.
At least I'll be prepared to grab one on the next sale.
These prices are insane for sure
So basically they just hide the option in the UI, I am pretty sure there will be addons in the browser to fix that
google ☕
It seems like they're trying hard to get users to bypass "paywalls"
Just generic big company stuff where they try to make you suffer for paying
Most people aren't going to use command line tools to download video...on a video STREAMING service.
It's like downloading a movie, instead of just loading up Netflix and hitting play.
Some people prefer their own video players
I guess
I think you can stream using youtube-dl
I use mpv and I can watch twitch streams using it
Yep
The keybinds are also pretty nice
it is working as intended
the high bitrate content works without premium on the ios api i believe
Dose anyone recommend good key caps for the 60he
Bc I am thinking of getting a wooting keybourd
Ours?
You'll have to be a lot more specific, if you want some solid suggestions.
- Where are you located in the world?
- ANSI or ISO layout?
- 60HE? 2HE?
- Any specific language on the keycaps?
- Colours? Style?
signature plastics makes like 3 or more keycap profiles
I think it is more about noy buying crap
I don't think they are asking for a set of keycaps that is ~100 USD or more
don't think it is hate
you can good keycaps for cheap
it's just that most keycaps at that price are not good
and they are certainly not the same
which is what a lot of people are claiming
I'm still salty about the past
Kept getting mocked for questions and when I struggled with my first keeb xd
Yup
Do we have any news on the alpha lol apex fans?
My fans are annoyingly loud even when they’re not fast
Yes
no don't think we do

More importantly, which is better for playing ...
slight performance improvement
it's literally the same keyboard as the new arm based laptops
no? they dont have much space between the keys, right?
looks the same to me, the older keycaps just look a bit taller
same scissor switch
mechanism rather
I used to run Compiz with a shit tone of animations and blur and whatnot on my old laptop with 3GB ram and an AMD Athlon CPU
and there was no lag
so cool
Nothing Phone 2 Durability Test.
Nothing Phone 2 Durability Test.
Oh, more shit phones
Releases in a few days and it has a 8+ gen 1?
Major upgrade of an SoC over what was basically already DoA ewaste nothing 1
Yet they still couldn't cram an 8 gen 2, which is available?
Seems like a far more usable phone over the previous one
Price doesn't seem terrible
Has some lacklustre parts, lack of future-proof WiFi, battery is meh, charging is meh
But I guess it's still comparable to current top-end which is fine
But next gen will launch really soon so, it'll be obsolete in a few weeks
Oh damn 8 gen 2 is really damn on-par with A16 Bionic
Pretty damn cool
... and yet Genshin Impact still doesn't run 120Hz on Android, Apple only
seethe
I personally just wish smartphone makers would capitalize on the lower nand prices and make 512gb the new 256gb at the very least. Especially now that the micro slot has mostly been deleted.
It's kind of stupid that between cheap phones and paying a lot of money there is only unsuitable phones for me.
That being said my poco x3 pro can bridge the gap for a year or two at least.
Those are rather small and expensive
Price actually went down compared to last version
But Sony is the no-compromise phone, packs all the features that are cut off on competitors
+1 on more storage with ''base'' phones 😅
I honestly never understood what on earth is dual IP rating
Sony is the only phone maker that has that from what I found
And I tried looking up and found no information on it
IP65/IP68
Like, that's a big difference
IP68 I'd literally scroll on my phone while taking a shower
65, I would not risk that
So which one is it?
except for touch screens not working well with water
or rather capacitive touch screens
As for my storage usage:
But then the micro sd
https://www.pocket-lint.com/why-does-sony-list-ip65-and-ip68-for-its-smartphones/
''What Sony is actually saying is that Xperia devices meet both those standards. Other manufacturers - Apple for example - only list IP68. This would mean it's dustproof, but in this situation, Apple is only saying it meets the submersion standard and you cannot assume that it is protected against water jets.
So while it might seem that Sony isn't sure what it's saying, it's actually providing more information, which should give you great peace of mind about its devices.''
Yeah I searched a long time before May of this year
I suppose this will be one of the first posts that actually explain what's up with the dual rating
So it's actually double protected?
Damn I didn't know that you can actually list both certifications
Sony designs really nice phones
How's their Android skin? Good/Bad? kinda like how 1+(Some bloat apps though) have it or Stock
Samsung skin is ok but there's unnecessary apps installed, really liked their ''Edge'' where one could store apps but 1+ have that now too
Sony is vanilla android
No proprietary custom OS
Which is prolly pretty good, battery might last for longer
Stock android is a bit bare bones tbh
I thought Sony was only vanilla in terms of the UI?
Don't they add extra features and whatnot?
They keep the UI as stock but add features stock doesn't have
Which is nice
Stock experience, no shit bloat on top
Just add the extras like camera and whatnot
That's how it should be done

I'd rather have a certified phone
I remember OnePlus did take a similar approach with water resistance at one point
So maybe so long as a company is honest and documents the process it matters very little
Also in regards to ingress protection certification basically every one does not understand warranty coverage water damage
so do billionaires with submersibles
The 2 years OS + 3 years security updates are kinda bad from Sony
so i won't become a professional manta ray scrubber when I'm grown up? :(
Oneplus & Samsung have 4 years OS + 5 years security updates, Google 3 years OS + 5 years security updates
Asus seem to have 2 years OS + 2 years security updates on their phones 🤦♂️
anyone manage to get the artemis discord integration to work? I have it setup and a layer listening to a notification event. but the event never comes, even when a notification happens in my client.
i assume all this populates once the first event triggers, but it never gets picked up by the bot
How do you know apple is on time?
probably best to ask in the artemis discord server
true. good idea.
Real good stuff

ASRock RX7900XTX Phantom Gaming GPU now retails at $799 The flagship RDNA3 graphics card, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, boasts a full Navi 31 GPU and 24GB of GDDR6 memory. 799??

ig at that price point yea
That's what is so exciting about a new Switch 2 launch
Well, you could say that Switch 2 would also be launching with an outdated SoC
Since better ones are available currently than the T239
239 is supposedly based on Orin, and Grace, a successor, is available
Oh apparently Thor will also launch soon
But Orin should be more than good enough for last gen console levels of perf, DLSS, 1080p resolution at high framerates and fidelity
Damn Orin's a 2018 architecture, why is Nintendo always so late to the party
Maybe because they dont want the price to be too high
Eh, could make sense since how cheap they always price their consoles
Also hardware does take a long time to develop
So considering the old rumours that they were working on the successor back in like 2020, canceled it and supposedly now picked it up again
Would have been a pretty modern SoC if it launched in 2021
i dont play the switch a lot so its maybe not worth for me to buy the new one
BUT
ill still get one and hope for a crack.. hahah
i cant on my oled ;(
I do pray they botch the launch and we get homebrew on Switch 2
I think it's these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005589875504.html
Just, if you do get one, be careful as fuck installing them
There used to be guides, dunno if they are still around
But the installation requires high degree of precision and care
yep i know that thanks :)
I thought these would b expensive af
If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, and your soldering iron doesn't have thin ends, it's not worth attempting
They used to actually
They used to go for 100+$
I dunno what happened, that they are so cheap now
Maybe the big factories got their hands on the schematics
So whereas a few years they used to be really rare and expensive, with mass production they are cheap af
can i somehow complety unbind a key in a mode? i want to unbinb the windows key when im gaming

You have two approaches.
One is locking the WinKey with a toggle.
The other is switching to one of the other profiles on your keyboard, and then permanently removing winKey from it.
cheaper than pokemon emerald and stores 125000x the amount of data

Trying to comprehend why is it so expensive
And what makes it any better than a 100$ CD player
I hate that 700 euro is considered midrange for phones now .-.
It is not
Only stupid ass journos and Samsung/Apple buyers call that "mid"
midrange
Oh
It's 600
Still high
8+ gen 1
mid-range
Right???
That's just an idiot of a journo writing shit they have no clue about
If that’s not mid range what are iPhone then? Halo products?
Flagships
Shit products cause they are valued like trash
Yeah
Flagships are a fine word, but even flagships don't go above 1000$
Just shit pricing cause they can get away with it
That doesn’t really change just because you dislike them
Folds go above a grand too etc.
Right
Cause just being 600$ automatically makes it mid-range
I sure would love you to list the features this phone lacks compared to S23 Ultra or 14 Pro Max
Come on, go, I'll wait
Good luck while at it too
I really don’t care
Price wise that is mid range compare to the other phones on the market
The reality check is that Nothing 2 encorporates top end hardware that current flagships have
For what, half price?
That's sure sounding very mid-range to me
Xiaomi and others do the same
If we allow Samsung and Apple to dictate what's top end and what's not, we'll be paying 2x for phones again before too long
So 600 gets you a flagship and 1500 also gets you a flagship? What’s the point if you can’t differentiate price points
You argue about features when it’s about the price
Wtf kind of argument is that
We are now segmenting phone tiers by price?
I sure would love to buy a 3310 for 1.5k and call it a top end flagship
Segmentation will always be features only
And these phones have comparable and equal features to your 1.5k "flagships"
This started it and it’s about price and nothing else
Well, it's not considered mid-range
If some idiot wrote that it is, I don't care what you say, it's not
It isn't, and it will not be
Just because that started the conversation doesn't mean that's all there is to this conversation though.
700$ is well into high-end
the phone is high end, but it has mid range prices
If some guy reviews S23s and 14s and thinks that 700$ is now mid-range, doesn't mean they literally are
If you have well selling devices for double the price I find it hard to say it’s not mid range
Brand value?
what is your definition for mid range?
If it’s half way from the still well selling top end isn’t that kinda perfect spot for mid range?
It's not half way in terms of features, it's comparable if not on-par with features
Price should not be considered a comparison factor to classify phone tiers
For phone prices I would consider 6 or 700 definitely mid range when you look at how many people spend much more
And that makes Pixels, high end Xiaomis, Asus, ROGs and others "mid-range"
When they pack best-in-class hardware in some cases
That makes virtually no sense
The very own S23 and A14 are mid-range if we take into account charging power
If not low-end
Chinese phones have 120W+, so that automatically makes them flagships
S23U is low end
Makes sense?
So if I sell you a 600$ phone you call the price mid range low end or flagship depending on what the phone is?
You can define it by features but it makes little sense to disagree with Lana’s point when that’s not what she complained about
I would not call the phone anything depending on price, depends on what the phone is
Lana complains about the fact that people like that guy, and you in this case, categorize phones by price
It makes no sense, since price does not represent the quality of the phone
Features, quality of life, service quality, etc are not to be gauged by price
Then I’m confused how you were able to disagree before the link was posted so it wasn’t known what the phone in question was
Good lord
Li-Fi finally becoming a thing?
Only problem with this would be transmission through solid objects
But a really good technology
I wonder if it would make sense to change the cellular grid to use Li-Fi for point-to-point bandwidth transfer into beacons, and 5G or such for local connect
Doubt that will become a standard honestly
This could be an interesting way of replacing cables
Making it a standard is easy
Making it widely used is the hard part
We must create a new standard to standardize all these standards
Where's my FTL Wi-Fi

Bit annoying with the trend in tech of the next gen being an upgrade to the original rather than the replacement
the difference, damn wtf
and Pixel arent even known to take good video
nothing 2 is worse video than Pixel
