The Pixel 7 Pro have 5x zoom, right?

astral haven
#

yep

sharp badger
#

The upcoming iPhone will probably have better lenses overall

astral haven
#

yep rumored real telephoto

#

currently the most zoomed in iphone is around 50 mil equiv, which is technically considered the exact center point between zoomed in and wide

frozen ingot
#

might finally be time to upgrade in a year or two then

astral haven
#

for the most zoomed in,
xiaomi and pixel are around 120
but samsung is at 240

#

but samsung is throwing a 10mp sensor on there and by default upscales it to 12mp just to meet bare minimum

#

Heres some samples with the pixel and the samsung
see which you like

#

both photos were taken at the same time
both at 10x zoom
||s23 left pixel right||

fickle ore
#

Same? just other pic is raining, goddamn

sharp badger
#

Liked the pic on the left

astral haven
#

you can tell that the pictures were taken within minutes of each other purely from the positions of the people...
its a pretty poor showing for ||google || on this shot

#

spoilers if you want to see which is which ofc

#

the interesting part is how xiaomi looks pretty fantastic from first impressions

#

and it should be pretty interesting in the future to see what sort of success people can have from using the same sensors as much as possible

sharp badger
#

Yeah just dislike the bloat that comes with some of the phones but still I've been eyeing the S23 Ultra but will wait until October when most of the phones have released to see if Google or Apple will release anything good

astral haven
#

ive got an s21 and the s23 has the exact same camera system besides the main sensor so its completly pointless for me to switch

sharp badger
#

Yeah is the battery life still good?

astral haven
#

yep, plenty tho it was starting to not quite last a day 6 months ago so i dropped from 1440p to 1080p and its back to lasting the day

sharp badger
#

Ok my 1+ 8 is starting to show it's age on the battery but feels like it's usually around 3 years these phones last

astral haven
#

yea
im definetly in the market for a new phone

sharp badger
#

But it isn't that bad honestly and it helps with the quick charging (90Hz always on)

gusty kiln
#

waiting to see how SD 7 Gen 1 does with a 5000mah battery

astral haven
#

very disappointed that the xperia 1 v uses the same zoom lens as the iv
im probably not going to get xiaomi simply because i dont want to have reception problems, so im stuck waiting until s24 if i want a new samsung
iphone is gonna be a tough sell unless they add real telephoto, sideloading, usbc with video out, and a desktop mode all in 1 go, and im highly doubtful

gusty kiln
#

apple's version of dex will simply be stage manager

#

on ios

sharp badger
#

The Xperia has nice specs too

astral haven
gusty kiln
#

motorola has ready for dogekek

#

but their camera is not even top 10

astral haven
#

yea i aint downgrading from what ive got...

#

im willing to take a tiny hit on the max zoom as long as its still better than my vision

sharp badger
#

Huawei would have such good phones but the ban stopped that from happening when they can't have Android

astral haven
#

the xiaomis look better on paper even tho imo

sharp badger
#

Haven't looked at the newest Huawei phone need to check that then 👀

astral haven
#

basically an entire gen behind on all fronts despite being less than a month earlier

#

oh my god and they dont even have the 7680fps slo mo any more
only 960
the xiaomi has 1920fps...

#

pain

sharp badger
#

Seems like it 😅

cursive summit

astral haven

canon ef 300mm f4 + 2x teleconverter is crazy awesome for astro

#

and if you want to zoom in more, you can just keep adding more teleconverters

astral haven

astral haven

a54 lookin better and better...

pale sigil
#

woke up (10:30 but did not touch my phone till 11am as its something im working on) to 77% and today i used youtube for 30 min and checked a few messages, left the house around 12pm with 63% and just checked messages... arrived at 12:30 and im at 48% and while its on silent in the cinema after the film its 38%!

#

I dont use it much!!!

#

even so it looks like i can only get a few hours screen time

#

its horrid

astral haven

thats actually awful

pale sigil

it is

im fedup

my last phone was a pita but at least it made sense why the battery sucked! lol

My iPhone SE about the same but a little better

idk why no one is talking about the issues with the 7A

pale sigil
old gulch

It loses life rapidly <50%

btw

astral haven

Before that it was about an hour 10%

pale sigil

this was with battery saver @astral haven!

#

My phone is impossible to use without battery saver on

#

And 5g disabled

#

A lot of people are blaming the tensor as its exynos

astral haven
#

and my work iphone se goes into my backpack full at 5 on friday and i can pull it out on monday at 8 and itll have 5-10% still available
and it has location tracking or whatever

astral haven
pale sigil
#

Either way, im gonna ask for a replacement and hope it fixes it lol

astral haven
#

yea it could very well be a physical battery issue

pale sigil
#

my return window is closing

old gulch
pale sigil

My last phone actually had an issue with the battery sensor

old gulch

I left it for 2 months and it remained alive with 20% to boot

astral haven
#

I wouldnt be too torn up if i had to get an iphone if it had usbc and sideloading

pale sigil
#

i just hate ios

#

phone wise

astral haven
#

🤷 wouldnt be a problem if you had sideloading

pale sigil
#

i had to jailbreak to enjoy it

astral haven
#

and if you had sideloading natively, you wouldnt need to

pale sigil
#

I love this 7a so much

#

i really do

#

People suggest resetting but i dont think that will do anything

astral haven
#

again it could physically be a defect in the battery

pale sigil
#

ye

fading ore
astral haven
#

no it doesnt lol

fading ore
#

Works for me 🤷‍♂️

#

Haven't had an issue using the intended way to load apps onto iPhones (using xcode)

#

There's also third party apps on windows and linux to sideload apps.

astral haven
#

yea and how long do those apps work...

fading ore
#

Works as long as you keep the signing server up on your local system.
If not, 1 week without dev account, 1 year with.

astral haven
#

so it works for zero seconds unless you have a computer...

latent mural
fading ore
#

I personally do not. I keep a signing server running on my desktop
Although if you don't want to do that, then yes.

astral haven
#

during lunch today, my phone recompiled an app and installed it without using a computer

#

and i did that while i was taking a walk in the park

pale sigil
#

@fading oreSideloading on IOS is ass

latent mural
pale sigil
#

I shouldn't have to use a jailbreak to consitently sideload

#

altserver does not auto resign every week afaik

#

and altstore does indeed suck

fading ore
#

I don't use altstore

pale sigil
#

either way

fading ore
#

that shit sucks

pale sigil
#

having to use third party software and having to resign every week is just horrid

#

i gave up with my IPad doing all that shit

astral haven
#

what apple cope addicts call sideloading is only a tiny subset of what sideloading actually is...
if you need external devices, its hackery not sideloading support

fading ore
#

I agree there should be an option in the phone to allow unsigned packages.

astral haven
#

not even

#

there is no way to install a package to a phone

#

unless you perform external hackery

fading ore
#

If it's signed it just works

#

you can try to open the IPA and it will install

#

They just need an option like they have in MacOS to allow unsigned apps.

astral haven
#

show me vids

fading ore
#

Sure, 1 moment

woven laurel
astral haven
#

found some videos but they are omega sketchy and wow is it a long series of steps, seems like its a form of bug that they are taking advantage of

#

is this like a thing that apple is aware of and is letting exist?

fading ore
#

If the IPA package is signed, the phone will have no problems opening and installing it.

#

That's how many developers distribute their apps for beta testing prior to placing it on the appstore

#

for instance, osu! lazer distributed signed ipas that can be installed on iOS devices.

astral haven
fading ore
#

xcode handles it automatically

astral haven
#

dont see how a phone can build its own apps unless xcode for ios exists?

fading ore
#

It can't build apps, it can install precompiled binaries

astral haven
#

what makes it impossible to compile the binaries on the phone itself?

fading ore
#

Lack of clang and the SDK/other prereqs in iOS. You can install it but it's not really needed. Pretty much all devs distributed precompiled binaries.

#

Android has the same issue. Most manufs do not ship androids with compilers or dev tools.
(same with windows, macos, most linux distros)

astral haven
fading ore
#

You don't need to recompile the app to remove ads.

#

iOS has the same thing (flex3) that can remove ads from apps

astral haven
#

but only with jailbreak

fading ore
#

I agree with you iOS sucks. But not being able to sideload apps is not a problem I've encountered.

astral haven
#

🤷 the top 2 most used apps on my phone both require features that ios simply doesnt have

#

you dont run into the problem because theres no option to even have the problem...

fading ore
#

Hmm?

gusty kiln
#

welp another BSOD, gunna return this ram kit

fading ore
#

What ram kit is it?

gusty kiln
#

uhhhh leme see

#

pretty popular kit

fading ore
#

Ah okay, those are dual rank Hynix DJR. If you're using a ryzen, I'd recommend looking for single rank configurations.

#

Ryzen memory controllers have much better stability with single rank kits.

gusty kiln
#

how common are single rank 16gb sticks?

fading ore
#

Pretty common

ashen spindle
#

I mean you do kinda want dual rank for max performance

astral haven
#

^

gusty kiln
#

5800X3D though

latent mural
ashen spindle
#

doesnt matter, cache is nice but its not catching all cases still, just means the improvement is lower

astral haven
#

rev e dual rank kits should be super available

latent mural
#

Dual Ranks are always better

astral haven
#

but like it shouldnt matter

#

because the ram should just work

latent mural
#

yep

latent mural
astral haven
#

more ranks = less stable always

fading ore
pale sigil
#

This launcher is cool

ashen spindle
#

yeah as an example

fading ore
#

For Zen:

ashen spindle
#

hence why you should always make sure your kit is in the QVL of the board

#

doesnt guarantee it still but allows you to complain if it doesnt work

fading ore
#

What is the problem with your current set? @gusty kiln

#

can you not just run one of the supported configurations

#

You have 2x2R which should be fine at 3200mhz

#

If you really want to run 3600mhz then look up a guide on overclocking your memory controller.
The XMP profile only sets RAM timings and voltages, you still need to configure the memory controller to be stable.

astral haven
#

Yeah and throw way 20% the perf of the CPU lel

ashen spindle
#

if the QVL lists the kit you shouldn't need any manual tweaks

astral haven
#

^

ashen spindle
#

and 3600 is something even the worst bins should do

gusty kiln
ashen spindle
#

whats the board, does the QVL include that ram kit?

gusty kiln
#

nah

#

mentioned it before

#

x570 steel legend

fading ore
# gusty kiln not much of a tinkerer, rather just plug and play

AMD lists the max memory speed of your CPU's IMC as DDR4-3200.
Most users indicated they did not need to alter the default settings on the IMC to have stable DDR4-3600 configurations, although some have reported needing to raise voltage to 1.1-1.15V to get stable overclocks.

#

Like quin said it depends on the silicon quality of your particular chip. Exceptionally low quality chips may have trouble running even slightly above AMD's listed specifications, some will handle running well above the listed specs without problems.

pale sigil

#

I'm not a fan of anime wallpapers but since it's my own it's nice

ashen spindle
#

the specific kit isnt on but similar ones so it should just work though if you are unlucky it might just need a tug more voltage or something, but if you dont want to try that best to just use another kit then

gusty kiln
#

I already bump the voltage to 1.375 from the 1.35 XMP

#

and still bsod

#

could lower frequency, but meh

#

want to use the speed I paid for

fading ore
#

The settings you'd need to change are the CPU's integrated memory controller. I believe AMD calls it "SoC voltage"

ashen spindle
#

have you tried reducing the voltage? sometimes the Ic likes a lower not higher number

gusty kiln
#

nah but I've already swapped back to my old 16 gb kit

pale sigil
#

@golden girder basically Ignore it

#

Your artical answered my question

#

I installed graphene os 😄

golden girder
#

@pale sigil There are basically three things with Ryzen.

  1. Ryzen had a problem with USB device in general which was fixed in the AGESA 1.2.0.2 version. These caused communication drop outs resulting in crackling sound for USB sound cards and speed drops for mass storage devices.

  2. The second problem was that if the RAM clock was to high and so the infinity clock was also to high that the interrupt timings were off. This can causes issues with devices which rely on specifics timings, like PCIe sound cards.

  3. The issues of the ARM models with Ryzen were related how the system handles the communication when the device isn't ready to reply to a request. This was caused by a bug due to a race condition in the Advanced Software Framework (ASF) former Atmel now Microchip code Wooting uses as the USB stack. When the host requests data from a device the device responses with a not ready token if that isn't ready to handle that and so can't provide the data for now. The host will then try it a bit later. A typical system retries it in the next frame, meaning one millisecond later. But Ryzen basically retries it immediately, often multiple times in the same frame. If the device don't expect this and has issues with this it can cause problems.

So basically all three problems are somehow related how the CPU handles the timings for specific buses.

pale sigil
#

Ty

#

Beautiful

golden girder
#

So about the Wooting related issues with Ryzen, the CPU was technical still operating within the specification. But because it didn't wait as long as other systems the bug occurred much more frequently on Ryzen than on other systems. After fixing the bug the previous issues with the USB hub were gone and also the problem that the Wooting can reserve a Xbox slot while not using it and so even occupy all available slots.

#

I am currently encountering an issue with my USB that could be related to that

#

My USB devices randomly disconnect every couple seconds to minutes

#

For milliseconds to seconds

#

Ever since I upgraded to a 3070

#

I read that amd has lots of issues with usb

#

Got a 5600x and tuf b550 plus

#

First I thought it's because my PSU can't handle the voltage spikes of the 3070 but that usually shouldn't be the issue

turbid tiger
#

It does seem like I need to update the bios

reef patrol
#

Ayup.

ashen spindle
#

That bios update fix should be out for more than two years, so yes should update anyway if it’s that old xD

golden girder
#

@turbid tiger In the case you have a BIOS version which has an older AGESA version than 1.2.0.2 than it's likely... Graphics cards causes a lot of interrupts on PCIe. I guess a faster one which can do more FPS would cause more interrupts which than may throws off the timings of others tings like USB.

The AMD system I got was after that AGESA update so I wasn't able to check how the signaling on USB was look like before that update, otherwise I may could had told more.

By the way, PCIe devices either use line based interrupts or message signaled interrupts. The last one is the better one and should be preferred if supported.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/interrupt-problems-read-message-signaled-interrupts-msi/

If the sound card drops out or cracks, USB devices do not work or only work sporadically or the performance drops, then interrupt conflicts are usually the cause. This is something that Windows users…

Updated BIOS

Updated chipset driver

#

Disabled CPU usb ports

#

Switched to PCI 3

#

Everything people said that fixed it for them

#

A lot of people also said disabling C-States helped but that option is not available for me in the BIOS

reef patrol
#

What is the issue you're having exactly?

#

Oh random USB disconnects.

turbid tiger
#

Every seconds to minutes they occur for milliseconds to multiple seconds

#

Mostly it seems on my mouse

#

somehow never on my graphics tablet, although I did have that problem on my graphics tablet some days ago

#

yesterday no issues at all

turbid tiger
#

okay right now it seems to work, I am using my brothers mouse rn

#

which means its a mouse issue?

#

OR

#

its because its a wireless mouse

#

OR

#

its because the receiver usb is in the case front port

#

If this works I'll try my mouse on the front port

golden girder
#

Have you tried limiting the RAM speed to the official supported speed limit for your CPU?
If the infinity fabric is to high this can cause communication issues where data needs to be resend and so reducing the bandwidth which can result in timing issues.

Have you tried the MSI tool from the linked Igors lab article yet which shows the interrupt method for your devices and let you change them if the driver support it?

reef patrol
#

Can it be cabled? Always a way to troubleshoot if wireless is having issues specifically.

turbid tiger
#

so it's basically the sweetspot

golden girder
#

That should be fine.

ashen spindle
#

technically the offically max supported ram clock is 3200

#

so if you got really unlucky with the bin it could be it, but unlikely, I would first check the interrupt mode

golden girder
ashen spindle
#

3600 is the sweetspot and almost nobody has issues with it, 3800 and 4000MT is what people usually run when its causing issues

turbid tiger
#

I doubt its ram relating considering the massive amount of reddit threads with this issue

#

AMD officially acknowledged the USB disconnect problem in may 2021

golden girder
#

Yeah, only 200 MHz overclock should may not cause issues. A bandwidth test should may reveal if there are ones or not.

Actual Hardware Overclocking made a video about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft7ss7EXr4s

turbid tiger
#

And said fixes until a BIOS update is available are disabling global C-states and switching to PCI 3

#

both of which did not help

#

On my front port it seems like I don't have any issues

golden girder
turbid tiger
#

lemme try my wired mouse on it

turbid tiger
golden girder
#

You don't have a logic analyzer, or have you?

reef patrol
#

I wonder what could be causing your issues. I have a very similar setup (in fact pushing it all harder than you with a 5600X, 3080 on B550 with 4x16GB 3600Mhz running overclocked)

ashen spindle
#

I'm still betting on the interrupt mode

golden girder
#

Would be interesting to see a screenshot of the MSI tool for his system.

ashen spindle
# turbid tiger Ever since I upgraded to a 3070

actually since you mentioned that, I'm even more convinced it's the interrupt mode or rather the DPC latency which seem to be an issue on some nvidia cards, try changing the interrupt mode if its not on MSI and then run latencymon while you do stuff (the tools are both linked in the article from igors site)

golden girder
#

It was linked in the article.

#

How it looks for me on my laptop.

turbid tiger
#

So what do I do now?

golden girder
#

It's a driver thing if a device actually uses MSI over LBI when supported. This tool messes with the Registry entries for that.

#

You can mark every row which support MSI and than click on apply in the upper right corner. If then all IRQs for devices which support MSI are negative after a reboot it was applied correctly.

turbid tiger
#

The only devices that don't use MSI are my audio controllers

golden girder
#

Still worth to enable MSI for these.

turbid tiger
#

isn't it already enabled?

golden girder
#

No, the IRQs are positive, meaning it don't uses MSI.

turbid tiger
#

wait what

reef patrol
#

IRQ

I suddenly got MS DOS flashbacks. Genuinely didn't know we still used these 😄

turbid tiger
#

so I do this?

#

I don't really get what you mean at all

golden girder
#

The second row shows the IRQ numbers for the device. If that is a positive number it means the device uses LBI.

#

If the device uses MSI this number is negative.

turbid tiger
#

yeah so all devices except for the audio controllers use MSI

golden girder
#

You need to check all entries in the column MSI and then click on apply and reboot.

turbid tiger
#

but will enabling MSI on the audio contorllers make a difference?

#

Audio isn't my problem after all

golden girder
#

It should improve the sound handling. If it also addresses your issue maybe not.

turbid tiger
#

I don't have any sound issues here

golden girder
#

Please still try it. There is the possibility that it still can throw off the IRQ handling if you are unlucky.

turbid tiger
#

for some reason my mouse works without any problems rn

#

btw. the problem seems to occur more often when my PC is under heavy load

golden girder
#

So far I can only recommend lowering the RAM to 3200 MHz, enabling MSI for all devices which supports that and update the BIOS and chipset driver to the newest version.

turbid tiger
golden girder
#

Besides that I would need more data, like a capture of the USB communication from a logic analyzer to tell more.

turbid tiger
#

ironically a CPU usb port

#

Some people fixed this problem by disabling all CPU usb ports

#

and uninstalling the AMD extensible usb controller

golden girder
#

Back in the day before the AVR Wooting got the fix it helped if the Wootings were connected as the sole USB device on a different USB controller than the mouse.

#

For that it doesn't matter if it was a port from the CPU or chipset as long as a high polling mouse wasn't connected to the same. But even if no mouse was connected but many other USB devices were it can also caused issues. Due to this the recommendation was that the Wooting should be the solde device on a USB controller if possible.

turbid tiger
#

welp mouse just disconnected again

turbid tiger
#

uhhh

#

I just browsed through Discord and it spiked like this without my mouse disconnecting

ashen spindle
#

if it didnt actually spike at the moment something hapepnd you can likely ignore that

#

sadly there are some known issues of the reported DPC latency being higher than it actually is which makes it harder to actually use it to troublehsoot things

turbid tiger
#

I would try uninstalling the AMD usb controllers but idk how to get them back

golden girder
turbid tiger
#

people said when uninstalling them via the device manager it fixed the issue

golden girder
#

As mentioned that is part of the Win system. Yeah, you can uninstall the applied device information but you can't really uninstall the driver data.

turbid tiger
#

Do you think this issue might be related to my power supply? I'm running on 600W and the power supply is pretty old. Might explain why it happens more often when doing lots of stuff. My theory was that it's due to the voltage spikes but not sure.

golden girder
#

If you uninstall the device and reboot (or refresh) Win would just reapply the old driver again.

golden girder
ashen spindle
#

600w is more than enough for that system

golden girder
#

It's not about the overall power but how well the PSU can handle short but huge power spikes.

ashen spindle
#

yeah the power spikes at max are still within the max powerdraw so that isn't a concern, quality idk but the rating is fine at least

golden girder
#

Yes, typically if the overall provided power is high enough it should have enough capabilities to also handle short high loads. That's why I wrote that I think it's unlikely caused by the PSU.

#

@turbid tiger Can you provide any data related when the issues occur asnd for how long? Like did it happen more often with a high CPU or GPU load or when both have a high load, like gaming.

latent mural
golden girder
#

Maybe around 700 mA and so maybe 3,5 W.

#

For this reason there is also an info now to cap the brightness when Tachyon is enabled.

latent mural
#

A USB 3.0 provides 900 mA 4.5 watts

#

but the keyboard runs on usb 2.0 , right?

golden girder
#

Yeah, 4,5 W for USB 3.X devices. The Wooting as a Full-Speed device should be still limited to the USB 2.0 specification.

#

USB 3.X is designed to provide handle power. Meaning the cables and connectors are rated differently.

#

A USB 2.0 device is only allowed to draw more power if that supports USB-BC (the battery charging protocol) and if the port supports that too (like on a rated high power port).

turbid tiger
#

For some reason the issue is gone for like 30 minutes now.

golden girder

Hmm, maybe worth to reinstall the OS. 😝

turbid tiger

The infinity clock handles the communication between CPU, RAM and PCIe devices. So also the communication with the PCH. More load on the PCIe lanes due to the better graphics card can likely increases the throughput over that. In the case it isn't stable the data needs to be retransmission which can throw off timing and the overall communication. USB host controller are still only PCIe devices after all.

#

It don't hurt to test for this and check if it may helps even the chances are maybe not that high. But I don't know, your problem is weird after all so the cause may is too.

After a search I found a similar problem but the result was open. Possible that CPU has some issues. Your new graphics cars should be PCIe 4. Together with the RAM clock it can be that your CPU has issues.

So please lower the memory clock to 3200 MHz and also limit the PCIe generation to 3 and try this combination. Otherwise I can only recommend to swap out different parts to check when it's ok.

X570 is affected by it tho

turbid tiger
#

so is the b550

ashen spindle
hasty thunder
#

and even there you can circumvent it by disabling C states

turbid tiger
#

for some people it helps

#

But a lot of people reported disabling global C states does not help

#

Also for my motherboard disabling them isn't even available

reef patrol
#

I can't believe that.

hasty thunder
#

neither can i

turbid tiger
#

It's supposed to be on AMD CBS in the BIOS

#

But it literally wasn't there

hasty thunder
turbid tiger
#

you sure? asus website said its on amd cbs

hasty thunder
#

it's definitely under Advanced CPU settings tho

ashen spindle
turbid tiger
#

as I said

ashen spindle
#

also f9 should be search key, did that not show anything?

turbid tiger
#

nope

#

nothing when looking for "c-state"

#

and that option is literally missing

reef patrol
#

I'd love to see a photo of your CBS menu 😄

turbid tiger
#

only the cpb and idle control there

turbid tiger
hasty thunder
ashen spindle
#

I mean wouldn't be the weirdest if some bios they forgot to add some option

hasty thunder
#

my Dark Hero has it under Advanced CPU Settings

ashen spindle
#

dark hero should be a bit higher up the price stack so I wouldn't assume things are in the same places

hasty thunder
#

well, it launched with a price tag of 600€

#

but then again, i'm dailying an X570 Aorus Master Rev 1.2 with a 5800X3D and a Royal Elite Kit at 3800 14-14-14-34

gusty kiln
#

damn, how much tweaking was needed to get that ram to work?

hasty thunder
#

not a lot since Elite Kits are pre-binned B-Die's

gusty kiln
#

hmmm

#

cuz even a cheap 3600cl16-19-19 kit was BSOD on my 5800x3d

#

though the mobo was a cheaper one

reef patrol
#

laughs in TridentZ 3600

gusty kiln
#

hard to find 32GB kit of those now

reef patrol
#

I mixed two 2x8GB ones.

#

One silver, one gold.

hasty thunder
#

i just bought a 4x8 Kit for 500€ and called it a day

gusty kiln
#

goddamn

#

500 for memory

hasty thunder
#

these heat spreaders are delicate tho... a single touch with the naked finger and they're immediately dirty

gusty kiln
#

I'm a cheap-ass, think 3600cl18 will be plug and play?

hasty thunder
#

depends on your boards topology and RAM Die

gusty kiln
#

cuz at this point I don't really care about the last few percentages of performance

#

just want something stable and easy for my 5800X3d

hasty thunder
#

just buy a 3200 14-14-14-34 Trident Z kit, these usually end up with a 10B at the end of the 420 Code line, which are guaranteed B-Die

#

those can easily run 3600 12-14-14-34 @1.45-1.5V

#

or just look on Craigslist, ebay, etc. and keep on eye on 10B at the end. That's a cheaper way to get a guaranteed B-Die Kit

turbid tiger
#

how much tho

hasty thunder
#

how much what?

#

i should repaste my CPU...

hasty thunder
#

i hate the idea of a 4.5 slots cooler

#

even the 2.5 slot cooler i have on my 6800XT just feels wrong

#

my 4k60 Pro Mk II?

#

PCIe storage drive maybe?

#

yeah, niche use cases, i get it, but still

ashen spindle
#

niche and only for those in the niche who would want to use these cooler sizes

#

if you need the space AiO is an option, pcie risers etc.

hasty thunder
#

still, i feel like the GPU cooler size went out of control

fading ore
#

Then buy the founders. They have a pretty compact cooler

hasty thunder
#

and the worst PCB you can get

#

thanks but no thanks

ashen spindle
#

it did get a bit bigger because they all expected more powerdraw than we got, so we got lucky and have bigger coolers than needed sometimes

snow moon
#

Bruh I just want my system to sit under my desk

#

Them huge cards gonna make smaller cases history

fading ore
# hasty thunder and the worst PCB you can get

I wouldn't say they're a worse PCB. They use fewer layers than most of the competition but that doesn't really matter for end users or performance.
They had significantly lower failure rates than after market cards on Puget Systems' servers.

hasty thunder
#

the FE PCBs are just garbage

fading ore
#

If you're talking about out-of-spec stability then yeah. Their power stage is not really designed for overclocking.

ashen spindle
snow moon
#

Oh yeah but the current trend certainly doesn't help

hasty thunder
#

agree

#

the peak imo was the 1080 Ti. Insane performance for 2017 for a reasonable price, reasonable power consumption and reasonable size

snow moon
#

Full watercool is just a big time investment, on top of the extra cash, and a bit of risk

hasty thunder
#

well, the maintenance is also a thing

#

sff being a big time investment and requires extra cash? WHAT?

snow moon
#

Damn I'm just taking flak here KEKL

hasty thunder
#

honestly, flushing and filling a normal size system ain't that difficult either if you know what you're doing during the construction. Just plan a flushing and filling valve into it. But then again, you're totally missing his point, V

fading ore
#

The lower end market has been a bit rough though since Nvidia recently been holding releases of the xx60 series until well after the 3000/4000 series launch and also stopped releasing xx50s.

#

The 4090 is a really nice ML card. We started swapping over our Titan RTX system to aftermarket 4090s.

#

It would be nice if they released a new titan with 40+GB of VRAM though

hasty thunder
#

honestly? Fuck NV. The XX90's were always dual GPU cards. Reviving the SKU without a dual GPU card just feels wrong. All they did was advertising Titan cards suddenly as "casual consumer" cards while these are technically and physically halo products and disguised Titan GPU

#

and at a 2k price tag? Fuck no

ashen spindle
#

naming doesnt matter just price and performance for it, 3090 and 3090 ti are a joke, 4090 is expensive but a beast

fading ore
#

Some of the AI models we use on the fundamental nuclear physics beamlines need around 350GB of VRAM. But it's not that big of a problem since NVLink has implemented scalable VRAM for forward feeding nets in CUDNN now.

ashen spindle
#

also one thing people do forget

hasty thunder
#

NV means nVidia, but ok

ashen spindle
#

and vexx knows it hes just being edgy

fading ore
cursive summit
#

Just trolling I guess

fading ore
#

Although I think the 4070TI is even relative to its time much better than the 1080TI

hasty thunder
#

but i'm honest here, i've abandoned NoVideo and don't regret the switch to AMD

ashen spindle
#

yeah, I did that with rdna2 and then rdna3 was not able to compete where I needed it though sadly so no real option there

fading ore
#

I've thought about getting a cheap AMD GPU for providing display outputs, since Nvidia's vsync is still broken for Xorg.

#

Not that cheap :3

cursive summit
#

I don't trust Arc's drivers at all

#

Especially for old titles

fading ore
#

It still has to be able to drive 6x 4k displays.

cursive summit
#

Like, say I want to play a game like HoMM3, will it even launch?

#

What if I want to play a fan project like Pokemon Infinite Fusion?

reef patrol
cursive summit
#

Who guarantees that Arc just doesn't launch games at all
