I would like to say I don't think the approach of "no wrong answer" is good. I think you should always lean towards control, even if you're getting something relatively fast. What qualifies as "control" is the problem. Hard pads are rated as "fast" because they're hard.. so relative to cloth they are of course fast.. but they started making hard control oriented pads that aren't just super slick... like the cerapad kin, which takfrog hates but I like a lot. Just research mouse feet if you're going over to a hard pad.. and be prepared to spend more $$. Decent cheaper cloth options: GS-R HLTV (I don't think they make it anymoar), GS-R, GTF-X (a little faster for cloth), QcK Heavy (little faster than GS-R and HLTV variant but not as much as GTF-X). I also have an X-raypad Aqua Control+ and Artisan Zero soft XL. little slower than goliathus control and gtf-x. I didn't end up using the Artisan long because it developed a ripple, and the aquapad I can't remember why I stopped using it.

Cerapad is nice because it's slick but allows for good stopping control and you just clean with rubbing alcohol. Cloth pads have an issue where they wear and you can either clean them or not but they won't ever be the same when they wear. Technically the hard pads are wearing too, but they're hard so the wear is not so bad. These attributes probably apply to some other modern hard pads.

Some of these cloth pads also slide around on the desk really bad. Any pad that won't stay I like to put doublesided 3M tape under at the edges/corners 😌.

imo the last decent f2p shooter was dirty bomb but the people behind it failed miserably. it didn't have as much distinction between chars to the point it was super unfair and u could just get rekt because someone else chose another char. there were some specific circumstances where this could happen but overall it wasn't bad. it rwas a good way to bridge the newer players or worse players with the better ones.... it was easy enough to be used as a jumping pad for worse players to improve a bit but fun enough for experienced players to not be turned away by dumb mechanics like stunlocks. there was phantom which had some issues for a bit but they resolved that for the most part. also fletcher was a bit stupid but overall you can't have everything how you want, and it did a good job appealing to a broad playerbase.

one example of fails is there was a bug where if u have the obj and drop it, it drops, but another copy of it exists in your hands. you aren't really holding it, it just means that it throws you off and forces you to manually switch weapons when you should have wep out already.

they claimed on multiple occassions to have fixed the bug, over a span of years.. but it was never fixed.

it happened just enough that you forgot that it happens and carried on with gameplay.. and then BOOM! you're screwed by this weird bug.

https://youtu.be/yYEq6gCQveI?t=3357 and this is actually a rare time where staying inside to defend at the obj is the best option.. due to the nature of the map design and the fact the enemy has to go in, grab obj, run out and bring it to a delivery spot.. and where the enemy comes from because of their spawn point. it's a free choke point as long as you can do it properly. because there are only a few ways into the room. but technically it's not the "end" because the end is the dropoff point after the enemy picks this obj up.

we had a teammate with mental issues lol. it resulted in us struggling to get through the first 2 parts of the map on offense and then finally getting both objectives before the timer is up.. then on defense we actually failed again early but then did a 7+ min hold on a part of the map displayed, which is kinda unheard of because even though it's "free choke points" it's hard to sustain this long without running out of health and ammo.

another fail from these ppl.. you bring down 2 players and groot walls you from finishing them. and in general we are outdamaging them fine but he is just blocking them whenever there are walls, effectively causing multiple "misses" on opponents for no reason.. just letting them build ult off his walls. you ask him to stop blocking off people that way and he says "but we're winning aren't we?"

that has nothing to do with him doing something stupid, and the current match status isn't down to whether or not someone does or doesn't wall off their team from finishing opponents. then his next excuse was "play away from me". I shouldn't have to go out of my way to avoid a teammate who is blocking me with walls, and being even closer to the opponent but in a way that doesn't have his walls block me would mean playing behind them the entire time and would result in fast deaths.

"play away from me" is like people telling others "pick up a pack, you're a dps 🤡 "

no matter how good i am, the common sense is obvious. if the whole enemy team is dead, there's no reason for 5 people to sit on the payload and do NOTHING

you're giving away free ground to the opponent. there's a reason they have to run to the payload. the spawns are placed a certain distance and the spawntimes are a certain length for a reason

in hero shooters the maps are so small and lack actual alternative paths so there's no reason not to push all the way

there's less options than in moba maps if you think about it. look at a league map vs a hero shooter map. you get 1-3 actual routes. and the map is relatively small compared to your character/speed

and u can hear people going alternate routes when you can't see them, because again the map is small

this was basically the turning point that destroyed the entire push.. and then the payload never moved from this stop. because the team allowed them to stop the payload there and kill them, as they didn't come with me to push like they should

i almost killed 2 people alone and they just stood there doing nothing

there's many reasons this is kinda silly but one major one is that it depends on where you are in the journey.. and me specifically as someone who doesn't rly care abt ranked .. i haven't played it until a few days ago.. so while im currently silver i already knew from the start i'd go higher than that and perform better than that in terms of % vs other players. so when they guess and it isn't silver it's gonna be a shock to them but they don't have the information that i only just started playing ranked.. and it being near the end of season and seeing as people seem to care a lot about ranked, they probably assume i've been playing a while in ranked.

i've been intentionally making risky moves to try to cause a change in the stalemates because the team isn't doing anything so the deaths are a little higher than they should be

i don't want to sit around making no progress on the map. i want to influence wins so i can go through ranks 🤣

these people are terrified to push

i've seen them all wait in spawn because there's a tiny bit of fire from torch there. they could just walk to the side of it or take a minimal amount of damage and get healed.. but they're so afraid

i've warned them about bombs outside the door and they run out and step on them immediately

they give up perfect choke point opportunities when we have all the advantage to let the enemy just run freely to the point.. blows my mind

so how i see it is i can either sit around being passive and not die as much and not get anywhere, or i can make the aggressive push and wipe a bunch of enemies then we can move along in the map some

imo the best way to play shooters (but it depends on not having bad players on most the team) is to be aggressive.. in general. just scare the shit out of the opponents and overwhelm them. i've noticed when playing with good players who are willing to committ to aggressive plays and stick in it with you, you can get a ton done. but i have also noticed it's extremely rare to find players who are willing to do it and who can execute it properly

it ruins their morale and they may start complaining at each other, pointing fingers, etc

sometimes they change up things when they didn't need to really

because they're stuck in spawn and feel defeated already

yea that's why i'm saying in general, because at times u just can't safely be aggressive

i also had some chick obsessed with me in OW who would pocket me and overall it wasn't a good move because she would take super risky dives with me, and i knew my dives were risky but it was fun.. and she basically went in for nothing because she'd die on mercy. but most of the time she was just pocketing me and i was destroying people
