It may not be simple but it sure as hell would be a better solution than whatever abomination the Creation engine has become.
We have also seen id tech being adapted to an open world game and to games with vehicles. Machine Games also have their own fork of the engines which does some things very differentely compared to id's fork of it. Especially now with the Indiana Johnes game coming soon.
I very highly doubt that it would be near impossible to adapt id tech for a Bethesda game.

Wolfenstein has the absolute worst story ever written and I will die on that hill. The story in that game is so bad that it makes a game where story doesn't matter worse. But despite that, especially Wolfenstein 2 is very fun to play due to how smooth and well balanced it is.
Better tools can result in better... result.

I remember Joshua Sawyer said that when your game has skill locked dialogue options that say [persuade], [charisma] etc. it will often lead to people picking those over anything else whether they are what you want or not and that made me think about how I'd do it. I would either simply not mark when an option is based on a skill or stat or just not include them at all. For example imagine instead of persuasion just being 'click on thr [persuade] one' you instead have to pick the correct regular dialogue options and actually just convince the person by making a good point (or lying).

I really don't like when singleplayer RPGs have 'quest failed' states. It should just say 'quest complete' no matter the ending you get.
