Ughh... the Companion AI in NWN is... not great. You could fit their entire logic into a tweet. They will happily run straight through traps you clearly spotted.

And you can't tell them to go around, only lead them by carefully going slowly through, zig zagging.

And then you hear the unmistakable sound of a trap going off in the room you just left, cause the companion had a meltdown and decided to run in circles into a minefield.
