my main issue with magical animes is that they focus heavily on the """story""" with complete disregard of the rules it initially tried to establish, the whole reason i love dr stone so far is that they're using exaggerated, yes, but overall very real science to progress the story - not to spoil stuff but they actually go step by step from the fundamentals and build up, instead of pulling stuff out of their ass

im starving so bad for more stuff like this, give me another Toaru Majutsu no Index but without the fanservice and im paying for collector's edition

And there's like a ton of those isekai things

Like Mashle could be made into isekai pretty easily, but I'm really glad it was not, because it's a great comedy, which doesn't need isekai tag to get people interested in it

the only two shows i remember doing it well is

• sword art online which is basically based on the idea of an urgency for surviving and going back home in a tangible, realistic way
• solo leveling which did pull the system out of its ass in the beginning, but it's part of the story to figure out what exactly the system is, and the system is actually used for a broad range of things in a believable way

oh yeah solo leveling is absolutely generic, but its appeal to me is that it's really well executed

like, the whole thing.

• portals appearing in the world - generic, but the actions the city is taking around it, a divide between govt and hunter agencies, an actual reason for exploring them outside of "saving the world", a whole microcosm of businesses and ventures related to items and materials found inside, well defined laws and not just "random hero combatants" but excavation groups, rescue groups, with gear, scaffolding, etc.

• player menu appears for one person - generic, but is well defined, and extensively used as a major part of the story instead of the player just being inexplicably strong, dont get me wrong it's still an asspull relative to the original skill, but it didnt start off as random omnipotence, sung still had to do some work and planning around it

every element i can grab from that thing (ive only watched the anime so far though), no matter how generic, seems to be really well established instead of just being an afterthought
