so you just type the romanization and the IME lets you output the correct symbols

the non-IME way is to use the straight kana input (and probably together with a JIS board so you have the useful additional keys to toggle between kana and roman input), but I think it's more common among people that speak japanese as a first language

The gasket mounting on the 80HE does make it a bit softer to type on then the 60HE. But it is still by no means bouncy or anything.

Zinc does have a paint job on it. So durability that wise, is going to be less as it is easier to scratch it. With PCR cases you don't have this as much, or atleast it doesn't show it all that well if it has a scratch.
I prefer zinc as it has a more full sound.

All metals exposed to air will change color. Natural unavoidable processs. A protective layer will help but only to an extend…
My MacBook Pro of 7 years is slightly darker than when I got it for example. Only noticeable in the part that was not exposed to air due to a sticker.

We have plastic samples from the 60HE that still look clean as the day they were made.

Of course UV light can do things to anything - Having it sit in direct sunlight day after day can cause discolouring over the course of months and years.
