And honestly what I would’ve wanted if this is truly how it’s going to continue

It’s been said a million times that post dressrosa, Usopp has had the least relevancy of any strawhat bar none

Whether or not ppl have a issue with that is its own discussion on what ppl expect from the story

But it gets to a point where I’ve genuinely asked myself if it’s even worth having screen time for him at all post dressrosa

Inactivity is one thing, lack of screen time is another thing

But having a LOT of screen time while accomplishing very little to progress the conflict and narrative further gets to the point where he’s functionally if a “arc side character” happened to tag along for.400 chapters

And chimes in for some comedic gag or just to let other people act in their stead

And I think I pretty much accepted Usopp wouldn’t get much in the series going forward as of egghead. Though I had a bit of hope when the arc started with luffy being disappointed in Usopps performance

And then the arc continued

It genuinely feels like oda just didn’t have any ideas for Usopp or didn’t want to in the first place

Like it’s one thing to be like egghead where most strawhats had a lesser role overall

Even Zoro mostly got sidelined

It’s another for nearly every single strawhat to actively contribute to the plot/conflict on elbaf

Except for Usopp

Usopp could get a crazy moment in the last few chapters of the arc and I couldn’t in good conscience call it the “Usopp arc” or even one of Usopps best arcs

Because it just ISNT a arc, he doesn’t go through a journey or allow the audience to see through his perspective for stretches of the story

We don’t get to see meaningful interactions with the other giants and correct me if I’m wrong but 3 chapters ago is the first time he’s mentioned his dream in elbaf

And there’s plenty of memes that compare it to leftovers from better arcs

And I honestly can’t say I disagree

Usopp isn’t just some random like pythagoras or a tobi roppo

Or a grand fleet member

He’s one of the most influential characters in shaping the identity of pre timeskip

He and Robin forced the crew to seriously consider their dynamics and relationships

A really common counter is that the use of a crew member has no bearing on if luffy wants them on the crew, and this is true

His arc is about finding self worth but also finding a reason to continue growing

Instead of stagnating out of fear or anxiety

His friends being there no matter what is only one side of the story

The other is usopps actual desire to grow stronger and be indispensable for his friends
