I think the damsel in distress criticism can only be valid if the character is solely defined by their consistent need to be rescued and protected by the male hero, like a heroine from those classic male centric films. Shakky isn't that, she is simply someone who was captured and rescued ONCE while otherwise being the competent member and leader of a dangerous pirate crew, who had fended off attacks against her (like from Roger and Garp) successfully. A lot of people have been captured and rescued in the series, she isnt anything new here.
