I'll start out with this @rustic ore
Good map of all the positions and I'll explain them all below
GK: goalkeeper, no further explanation needed. Only player who can touch ball with his hands, but that's only within that drawn box you see.
CB: centre back/centre half. These guys are your big, strong defenders. Also, tend to always be in either box for corners, either for defensive clearance, or to score headers. Covers the middle of the park.
LB/RB+LWB/RWB: left back/right back + left wingback/right wingback These guys are your quick, pacy defenders. They also tend to be set piece specialists (like for free kicks or corners, which I'll explain later), be good at crossing and passing, and tend to cover the far parts of the field.
CDM: central defensive midfield. Also tall, strong guys, but with more passing acumen than your CBs. Typically very agressive in play, and meant moreso for intercepting than tackling, but can do both. Not as aerially robust as a CB.
CM: centre mid. The heartbeat of your team. They get the ball from the back and tend to control your entire midfield play before making offensive plays. Some of the best passers on the team, also excel at holding the ball.
CAM: centre attacking mid. These guys tend to have the very best passing on the team and are offensively minded, but tend to be a bit lacking in strength. Have very deadly shots and passes that can cut through defenses. Tend to be technically gifted as well, with fancy dribbling and feints. The "brain" of the team if you will, some of the best players have occupied this position, like Zinedine Zidane and Johan Cruyff.
LM/RM + LW/RW: left mid/right mid and left wing/right wing. Technically the same position, but wingers play more up and offensively whereas mids play lower and moreso to extend the field of play than strictly to be offensive. Wingers and wide mids tend to be the most technically gifted players on the team with gorgeous skill moves, dribbles, feints, and other fun stuff. Very, very fun position to watch. Lack a bit in strength in comparison to other positions, but not always. Can bang in goals or assist, but traditionally meant to pull the ball side to send into the box.
ST/CF: striker and centre forward. Technically the same position, but the striker plays more up whereas the centre forward may play a bit more back. This tends to be your main goal machine. The guy you want to get the ball to whenever in the opponent's zone. Best shot, good strength, good speed, have good skills. Jump high too and can score headers, but there's a big dichotomy with striker play and it's rare that someone posseses all those skills. Typically, you're either a pacy tricky striker, or a strong shutdown striker.

Free kicks are given to the team that's been fouled outside of either box. They're a dead ball play and the team that's been fouled chooses what to do with the ball. The closer you are to the opposition's net, the higher chance for a shot/pass or cross straight to goal.
Penalties are given for fouls inside the box.
Yellow card is more or less your last warning before a red. Typically given for a really bad foul or when you keep fouling and don't stop. Reds can happen several ways:
Second yellow card
really, really, really bad, violent foul or a clear and apparent denial of a goalscoring chance (like fouling a player when you're 1 on 1 with them or handballing in the net when you're not the goalkeeper)
Corners are given when the defending team gets the last touch on the ball in their box before it goes behind. The opposition then whips the ball in from either corner, depending on what side of the net the ball ended up going out of.
It's alot to take in but it'll make slot more sense when and if you watch. If you want, I'll play and stream a game of FIFA the next time you're online and explain a few things there too.

Like the biggest problem Mitch Trubisky had and why he'll be considered a bust is not only because of his inability to throw the ball accurately or being afraid to run with the football. But it was his inability to process what he was seeing and quickly making decisions. Now, Fields isn't Mitch Trubisky but that should be noted regardless.
