Dang i was that tired i said it in this chat..
Mb
Just watched Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991)
Godzilla franchise ||I love that
No matter the country it was produced by
No matter the decade it was filmed in
No matter the form and new powers they give him
No matter how much hype and build up there is behind him in the story
Whether or not he's a rival, good guy, or the ultimate arch nemesis
Ghidorah ALWAYS jobs. Eternal bum.||
NEW GoT tomorrow
At least 3 seasons should be fairly peak
WoT 13 end || I can now say it was worth it||
Worth what
reading 13 books id guess
Matt Damon explains Netflix films have to “reiterate the plot 3-4x in the dialogue because people are on their phones”
︀︀
︀︀“A standard way to make an action movie, you usually have 3 set pieces and they kinda ramp up to the big one with all the explosions…. Now, they're like, ‘Can we get a big one in the first 5 minutes? We want people to stay tuned in.’”
︀︀
︀︀(Source: @joerogan)
Washed
Bleak
yeah thats crazy lol. I pray that doesn't end up being a requirement for WB
Isn't this what pausing is for
I get storytelling needs to suit the medium but this feels like overthinking
Though I guess it's also indicative of how little value people have in most Netflix originals, which y'know what? Valid.
the dumbing down of dialogue has been a tactic for years now
jameela jamil talks about this as well

If 6ix 7evennn isn't proof of this then idk what is
6 7 is a meme, not a movie or a TV show
Dat was not the point
My eyes
dude Mask of the Phantasm sountrack is soooo good
great movie
|| Really amazing way of sprinkling in the flashback of Bruce and Andrea. Really added the punch to the tragedy that are these two people and their relationship. Plus the last sequence of Batman returning, despite of everything. Ye it's a general thing for the character but has the impact nonetheless.
Man Heath made his own Joker but like the sheer uneasiness Mark Hamill's Joker brings in. You can never be certain what he's gonna pull out, his lunacy really makes him unpredictable and so uncomfortable to just be around. It's just so amazing to see this again||
Beyond the Black Rainbow or Possessor next
Incredible film
Wait I just realized you skipped out on 100m wtf 😭
It was downloaded : )
Progress…
I was planning to watch Posessor and then that
but then Windows stopped making video playback possible for some reason
and I had way too many important shit open to boot to Linux
fucking wild time where an important fundamental thing doesn't work on Windows but does in Linux
Fair enough lol. Enjoy whatever you decide to watch then
. I should finally watch one battle after another tbh
super man 2025 || i did not expect the harem twist||
my conclusion of the john d rockefeller bio is that he did barely anything wrong and is a better person than me and most of the people ive known
imo the worst shit he did was a well intentioned supporting of prohibition

Lmao what
😭 fuck, i was watching the game and saw this in my periphery
nvm forget it

Now this is good news
Can't afford to not make it look good
‘HEATED RIVALRY’ star Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova says she would love to play Starfire in the DCU.
(Via: https://t.co/v1x9e35iWS)
I get it’s a way for actors to secure their livelihood but I hate comic book roles being the end game 😭
All actors started as theater kids
Theater kids are nerds
Gen X and Millennial theater kids are more likely than not anime and superhero nerds
If that were true then comic books as a medium wouldn’t be constantly at death’s door
People like Marvel and DCs characters what they hate is the format of the big name western comics
Part of the reason licensed comics and manga are significantly bigger over here is that they're not stuck with a 20th century comic book shop mentality
They just watch the movies and cartoons
Floppies are a dead medium
about to watch AKOTSK ep1
WHO
Just say seven kingdom lol
everyone is aware the novels the series is based on isn't finished yet right
yall know what this means right
everyone knows how it ends though
and martin has apparently fleshed that out with the showrunners
I also heard that one before lmfaooo
seven kingdoms ep 1 || WHY IS THERE A SCENE OF THIS NIGGA TAKING A FUCKING SHIT ||
Condal deviating the source material drastically was a deviation Martin didn’t foresee and is outright denouncing
We literally know where this ends
Lmao
Same with house of the dragon
Both of these series we've seen the end
People keep bringing the "ran out of material" thing
I think george said he wants to knock these out before winter
Start small or whatever
Saying we dont know how house ends
Tells me people din't read fire and blood
We know what happens to every single king since aegon the conqueror to modern day
just because we know how it ends it doesnt mean its gonna be well written for tv
hell you literally have hotd which actually has the source and they still managed to fumble it
Goal post moving
Classic
You don't even read what you say
How do you expect people to agree with anything you say
If you can't keep track of your own points
The stuff with knight is all well known
You can get 3 seasons
And end it with no issue
There is no issue here
what part of "just because we know how it ends it doesnt mean its gonna be well written for tv" is that hard to understand
Harder to understand
Why you parrot the same point over and over
Anytime something got comes up
Like repeating it isn't gonna make anyone see the light
Anyone watched the train dreams movie?
at leasting I'm addressing the point instead of attacking the other person
Already addressed it
Don't make it personal
Yeah
I want to watch it but its not in theaters near me and i cant find it online am i just cucked ot
Or
Oh sbit
Of course now it is
Now when i check
Gonna watch this with a buddy soon
Start 2026 movies with park chan wook
Is the next target
I need to go through his movies
I just gotta rewatch oldboy so its my first movie of the year again
Bone temple has me hyped
Bunch of people i know that are hard to please
Gave good reviews
Plus loved years
Alex Garland redemption arc
I can't believe people thought years was bad
Did they
I can get it for men, civil war and warfare
I should lowkey rewatch opprnheimer
Even Juba likes it
It seems to have hit the right spot
For a lot of people
Some just complained it wasnt the type of zombie movie they expected
That’s not but it’s just funny
I just thought years came from a place that actually wanted to stellar a real story
If Juba likes something we’ve really gotten somewhere
Instead of just milking 28 years later
I don’t consider him a bar on anything tbh
He has very specific tastes
Back to back Great movies is nice
Also they switched director for bone temple
And it worked
A miracle
Wtf
He wants to play doffy
Lmao
great first episode so far
way of kings up to part 2 || this is shaping up to be pretty good. especially as a first book in a series. The only thing I dislike is sanderson's overly expository/remindery writing in some sections. Also I think the inclusion of spirits that indicate pride/shame/fear etc is kinda a lazy mechanic they dont feel necessary its like he didnt trust you enough to recognize that a character would feel proud or whatever in this moment ||
Finished Baptism of Fire, great book, I just wish Witcher books were paced a little faster
Gonna take a break and read something else. Idk Inheritance Cycle maybe
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms E1 ||Pretty good so far. Haven't read the Dunk and Egg books but I just might. I like Dunk and Lyonel Baratheon. Characters are likable and the writing is good.||
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms E1 ||Yeah that caught me off-guard. Expected though from a George R. R. Martin series. Gross and gritty and down-to-earth.||
Seven Kingdoms ||Expecting to see a lot of bare man ass in this series lol||
this post is stupid obivously but isnt sapiens like actively known to be
whats the word im looking for
dogshit i guess
its not but its not a great book either
I literally never read self help books but a colleague really liked essentialism and lended it to me at one point, one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read
basically a parody of a self help book
motion
Way of kings ||Nah sprens are goated||
I think its fine to feel that way at that point
that was a pretty good first episode
Stormlight all || It really feels necessary after knowing about Cognitive realm ||
Lady Snowblood & Love Song of Vengeance ||Two films of the same peak, although I much prefer Yuki’s character arc in the first film than I do the second film’s multi-perspectivity. And with that being said, there’s a lot of stuff I loved about the first film that didn’t particularly carry over to the second. However, both are equally as visceral and tragic. Two beautiful films too btw.
Shout out Tarantino for ripping the hell out of this for Kill Bill||
Lady Snowblood ||Toshiya Fujita’s violence is beauty||
What I’ve got coming in the mail. Particularly excited for Seijun Suzuki’s stuff
knight of 7 kingdoms ep 1 || ngl i thought dunk was like this auraful person (he did have pages upon pages written about his accomplishment in the kings guard book), but he kinda just a normal dude. Also, this kid is THE EGG? how did he end up being homeless
||
Knight of 7 Kingdoms ep 1 || yeah this is the story of how Dunk became this legendary knight ||
how's this for people who don't have reference of got or hotd
idk just asking
I know I was just saying
I have watched both but just checking if I could recommend it to someone
I mean they could watch it as a show
Don't think things would click as well without some intro to atleast a bit og got though
Eyes Without a Face time
the secret agent is a really good film
KOTSK episode 1 ||What an amazing start tbh. Captivated every single minute throughout that premiere episode.||
Mistborn book 1 and all of Stormlight ||I'm slowly making my way through Mistborn's first book, right at the beginning of part 2 where Vin just got a haircut and is prepping to be a proper lady amongst high society. However, I have this weird nagging feeling Kelsier is going to become evil, or replace the Lord Ruler, or something plot twisty. Two things give me this notion: I think there were references to Kelsier in a position of power in one of the later Stormlight books. Also, I think Brandon himself spoiled the ending of Mistborn book 1 for me years ago in his online lecture series, but it's a fleeting memory now. Also, question: is the Lord Ruler one of the shards of Adonalsium?||
RAFO
how are you feeling about other aspects of the book tho
Way of kings || the ones for wind and rot and some other stuff like that are fine I guess but the ones for emotions haven't been used in a good/clever way once. They're just bashing the reader over the head with something they shoulda knew anyway ||
||I find its purpose be less as that and more as making the image of the world feel more real || twok
Twok || feel like it has the opposite effect for me, it makes it feel like a story with a convenient mechanism ||
Hope that changes for you
It's one of the element that made the world more alve for me
That's one of two complaints in otherwise pretty great I'm at like 4.5/5 rn
Still nice
Way of kings ||It's something unique to Stormlight, I feel it has a nice "Show don't tell" feel when something pops up and the character notices their own feelings||
I don't really think it works that way for me
Eyes Without a Face ||Love me a good gothic horror. Eyes Without a Face checks all the atmospheric boxes that make it an aesthetically satisfying horror flick. The face transplant surgery is absolutely visceral in the most effectively amazing way. And the dogs collectively mauling Génessier at the end while Christiane finds freedom from her austere, lab rat lifestyle is a satisfying conclusion to a brief but proper narrative. The ideation here is impressive, however I can’t help but feel I’d love it even more had those ideas been given time to breathe||
Except a couple of times in 5 books
Twok || to me it's the opposite of that. Just because it manifests in world doesn't mean it's not functionally the author telling not showing. Showing in this case is would be telling me about the characters expression/behavior/thoughts in a way that lets me conclude they're proud. Having pride spirits emerge out of the ground is the same as just telling me they're proud ||
Either gonna attempt my first ever rewatch of Tarkovsky’s Mirror, or dive into the Hitchcock classics I haven’t seen yet
It’s decided
knight of 7 kingdoms ep 1 || https://x.com/_allyriadayne/status/2013093470676639985||
based
I’m looking for a good ER show, something like 911 but not Greys Anatomy. Also I’ve seen House. Lmk thanks!
you mean something outside of the Pitt
wok || one of the weirdest nitpicks I have seen lol ||
What’s the Pitt? I’ll watch that lol
The Pitt is basically what you are looking for
KOTSK Ep 1 - || lol idk why but this show feels like it was written by marvel writers 😭 why is everyone so quirky ||
|| lool thats true, also it feels a bit slice of lifey, like i am watching frieren ||
Mirror ||Memories are the nucleus of our lives’ tapestries from which Tarkovsky conjures fascination with such a pathos that, as the screen fades to black, I once again find myself speechless and lachrymose. There are no words to elucidate my experience with and feelings towards this film. Just that I close my eyes and think of my mother. I immerse myself in my memories with her, so that I may visit, once more, a happier and simpler time||
Perhaps the most important movie ever made
And with that the curtain has closed. finished The Way of Kings.

Im on Warbreaker rn
Needed a break
What did you think
Peak
finished the wheel of time
yes
don't make me feel more OLD

lol i use to love this show
Mistborn book 1 ||The more I read it, the more I realize how well written Vin is. I know Brandon says he does serious research if he ever has to write about things like trauma or being wheelchair-bound and so on and so forth, but you can really feel it with her. The little details he puts into how Kelsier reacts to how she behaves is way too specific not to be well thought out.||
mistborn ||my issue is in how methodical he is with characters who struggle with stuff like that, feels like he's marking a checklist sometimes when situations contrive to highlight disability||
Mistborn book 1 ||If you've ever taken his online courses, this makes perfect sense with the way he talks about how he both writes books and researches for them. he's very checklisty in the way he outlines his plots, for example.||
he tries too hard to be respectful
its not perfect but better than the alternative
we have all seen the kinds of representation authors come up with
I wouldn’t exactly agree with this
Evil Brando diserspect arc
Time to change that
@foggy mirage
Dark Tower Book 1 - || got a little in today, they just saw the man in black, he was like mountain hopping or hill climbing lol idk, but now i think they just landed in a swamp ||
i think the rights got bought but it hasnt really been making progress
oh apparently it completely fell apart and sanderson reclaimed the rights in 2024
Heated rivalry ending ||Needed more of Scott Hunter and Kip. They basically just made them as a plot device for the main couple 😭||
Brothers Karamazov random page
Someone fucking highlighted the pages
And put it back on the shelf
At Barnes and noble
Should have known a bookstore near a college campus is gonna have shit like this
What a bunch of dickheads
i think its kinda interesting to see what others highlighted in a used book
but new... wtf even happened? What kind of savagery anti social behavior is that
Was ir a used book store
Ou wait
BnN
Thats crazy
Wtf is closed umbrella supposed to mean
Fuck you
it's the only emote that shows up when you search dumb without nitro
Dark tower book 1 ||ok so he's got jake and you're about to hit one if the lore drops.||
Wombat, Evan mentioned Barnes and Noble lol
Yes bro i fucking noticed dude
Dont worry
It just took my a second
Barnes and Noble
Was it a used bookstore
you'rea fucking moron
Thanks guys
I’m glad everyone read every single message with perfect accuracy except me
And no one skimmed
If it makes you feel better i laughed out loud at 'fuck you' in response to the umbrella thing
I actaully had no idea if Barnes and Nobles was a used bookstore or not waht you said didn't seem that stupid to me but I wanted to make fun of you like everyone else
way of kings 36 || killing 4 people to do an ethics lesson is wild. Pretty effective though, cant deny her that ||
My goat
We just didn't have such catastrophic mistakes
oh that hasn't happened yet
Dark tower book 1 ||he doesn't have Jake yet ?||
Dark Tower Book 1 - || i think they just got to the swamp, Roland is starting to like Jake and they been giggling and shit lol thats all that has happened so far || 😭
Dark tower book 1 ||ok I know where you're at know so you definitely getting lore.||
@white smelt
@foggy mirage
is this a bad thing

Are there any movies out now that yall would recommend I go watch in theaters
Marty Supreme is still there in theaters right
28 years later bone temple
I haven’t seen any of them
My physics teacher said he thought Marty Supreme was one of the worst movies he’s seen in ages lol
how's that chris pratt/rebecca ferguson movie
if you check early reviews and shit
its bad
damn
well hope I enjoy it. gonna see it friday
don't have any other movies that I feel like watching

The new masters of the universe movie looks like ass bro
Duuuuuuuuuude
so is this the guy that made Shogun
Nah. Kiyoshi is one of the masters of Japanese psychological horror and this will be his first period piece, which is exciting
Most known for the movie “Cure” (one of the best films of all time btw)
interesting
is that movie the one with jared leto as skeletor
Dude the DCU Batman news is so funny
what happened
apparently the director and writer are responsible for some of the worst movies ever
Director and writer of the flash at the helm
This doesn't mean anything writer wise@main lion
Flash had like 40 writers
And a horrendous production
||https://x.com/DiscussingFilm/status/2014044197330760117|| welcome to derry season 2 @frank rivet @limber urchin
Goda
andy already confirmed that they are good for 3 seasons remember
they basically pitched 3 seasons to the studio when they started the show
Its confirming they are moving
||we avoiding the casting known actors, outside bill.|| welcome to derry s2.
No kids looking 26

Lmao
||also going backwards so impossible|| welcome to derry s2
WTD S2 - || the hard part is to capture the audience with new cast members every season but i think they will find some good actors. They are just gonna need a richie replacement every time
||
-go to #western-series
-everyone commenting on Stranger Things
-the few, the elite, are commenting on WTD
-classic
we are better lucy, don't let the others forget that
i'm trying to think of something witty, but my brain is broken
nobody talks about stranger things anymore
spice watch welcome to derry
no
Wtd s2 ||I think its absolutely possible to pull off, and whatever new plot element happens in s2 to move the plot along.||
WTD S2 - || my assumption is that after S3 we will get a new movie with an alteration of the timeline, the ymight bring back all the kid actors as they are at their current age who knows would be interesting ||
Wtd s2 ||they really got a lot of mileage out of the brand randomly lmao. If the third movie happens I'm sure it'll do well. It's kind of a shoe in at this point.||
WTD S1/S2 ||Since it seems that season 2 will be in the 30s and will involve that shoot out they were talking about in S1 I wonder if whatever gang that was gunned down are gonna be the ones who found out about Pennywise and tried to stop him but die as tragic heroes?||
Wtd s1/s2 ||the Bradley gang are a bunch of violent criminals. So I don't think that'll be the case but they'll for sure be tied to the central issue that season. They're a caralyst to focus the violence, hate and horror that year. Pennywise loves to eat a big meal before taking its nap. Plus events will likely change due to new plans it puts into place.||
Wtd s2
interesting
it would be ideal to keep him on WTD, but would be interesting to see how they replace him
lol it was 1 movie
there was a lot of things wrong with flash
I mean literally a lot of things, even some out of the studios control
fair
Flash movie was doomed regardless
40 writers and multiple directors
Also wb leadership back then was stupid
Only got interest in the left

seeing him crash out is fun
Harsh has been a doomer about it since day 1
Don't put much stock in it
Only on the one on the right for me
Want to see bruce with the gang
Not solo verse
Seen enough solo year one bats
I think the batman 2 is gonna be amazing
cuz of how amazing first one was
easily the best batman movie
it's a proper batman movie
Year one batman
|| greatest detective did detective things || the batman
Thats not the only thing I like batman for
I can read several detective comic runs for that
you can also read several different comic runs for other type of batman stories
for all the movies based on year one /long halloween or w/e
I feel like this movie captures it well while others didnt
so I dont think its an issue for it to also be another one
There's like two whole films that do it and I like Pattinson Batman between than Nolan Batman
I'm talking Long Halloween
89 does that is
Which is Dark Knight and The Batman
Its cool
But I just dont care about grounded batman
Remotely as much as the fantastical one
Best balance was the arkham one
Don't care for him boxing white collar criminals
Grounded Batman is fine, but I feel it is limiting to have one type of Batman
hes known for a lot of stuff
Also doesn't he have grounded comics
not like its a 100 episode series
where did blud get that from
Which villains would you like explore
Clayface, croc, mr freeze, mad hatter anyone who isnt dent
Christ
3 different dents
Nolan villains outside one were mid to bad imo
I still haven't forgiven him for Scarecrow
Nolan crow was ass
Makes me sad. Scarecrow has a ton of potential that I feel has been wasted in a lot depictions
But anyway, grounded batman is cool. Fantastical batman is cool.
There doesn't have to be one definite batman
I am aware, I am not responding to what you were saying. I was saying essentially there is room for both to exist
And I know some people don't think so
scarecrow and two face were both done dirty by nolan. Like idk with all due respect I dont consider those at attempts at the character proper if theyre dogshit attempts. Casting was great for scarecrow though
Most villains in that Nolan verse were imo the worst versions
Ras al Ghul was made wayyyy worse imo
real
The casting never was bad
But Nolan's direction with the villains left a ton to be desired
I think if he woulda messed up the Joker, I think the Nolan movies are remembered a lot differently
And we would have a metric fuck ton less Joker material
With no comic reference, I really liked Ras al Ghul
Ras al Ghul did nothing for me
I think I literally only liked Joker's story/role, and Scarecrows acting
literally nothing else was good
I dont like the casting for dent either
That was not the demon's head
Aaron I wanna say lockheart?
Literally never heard from that dude again after dark knight
Well I didnt
also I just noticed this "3 different dents" are you including the 89 batman and batman returns where || he has like 3 pieces of dialogue and is a bumbling idiot that just makes city announcements occasionally||
I feel like Ive seen him in stuff. He just didnt fit the vibe for me
The best Dent was, shocker, BTAS
Batman Begins || Neeson's acting and Ras al Ghul's motivation of maintaining a balance of society. The action that he does and says to do while the way Neeson acts giving off a honorable and virtuous for lack of a better word aura; that juxtaposition is really cool ||
|| Plus just a foil to batman as both intend to clean Gotham's corruption and have entirely opposite approach, tho this is just a thing for every Batman antag||
Yeah agreed
Interesting take. I am glad it worked so well for you man
I just was interested in why it worked for you. I didn't get much of that from the role but
Batman Begins || honestly theres something about ras in nolan's movie where its like... Hes literally just the stereotypical mentor vibe that you see in a lot of movies/shows down to the cadence he speaks in. Theres just something so lacking in him as a character that makes him stand out in a role like that to me||
||the honorable and virtuous is actually a good way to put it, but thats why I find it BAD||
I got this feeling too
Batman begins ||and then the training montage doesnt help
||
Batman Begins ||it felt like taking an interesting villain and making him fit a generic villain box that coulda applied to anyone||
I liked inception when I watched it but I watched it so young
dark knight is a good movie teetering on great but I cant use the word fantastic
it has too many elements I dislike
dark knight || ending with dent is just so booty||
I watched All That Jazz not long ago and I really didnt enjoy my time. Every other critic praises it
Batman begins || I think the fact that we audience knows how wrong it is and how convinced and borderline god complex/savior complex he has makes it interesting ||
batman begins ||thats just a trope in media I dont think that changes my criticism||
I mean Batman Begins ||I feel like that has happened a lot man in movies||
What Red said
It's more common in anime but not in movies I think
|| It's also just so carried by Neeson || Batman Begins
maybe this is just an "I like this actor" thing I guess. I thought the performance was boring
uninspired
Batman Begins ||using it for Ras, who admittedly does have a bit of that wanting to purge shit in him, really waters down the other complexities of the demon head. I think the relationship Bruce has with the al Ghuls was miserably watered down and ruined||
something that only actually bothered me this much on rewatch this past year tho
I used to like batman begins
now I think its almost outright bad
I watched it like late last year
It definitely was better than Dark Knight Rises imo
But it had flaws
Rises is a bad movie yes
There is a lot of just
Man tbh I think the worst thing about that movie is I felt so bored
🤐
The last time I watched these movies
~~The Dark Knight was my least fav movie of the trilogy ~~
Dark Knight Rises ||Bane is also probably the worst take on any villain in the series. Catwoman also was just. Idk man just felt like a bad characterization. I didn't buy Hathaway as Selina||
which was still GREAT
I guess we don't watch movies the same way
Or something
That's totally cool to have the opinion. I just don't see how that all works
Give em another watch
that makes so much more sense
See what you think
Maybe
Though I remember watching these years ago and I always thought the Dark Knight was the best of the trio so maybe not
the only movie I am planning to rewatch anytime soon is Dead Poets Society
I also have it in like top
Not top 4 exactly
tho I don't have an exact list
my letterboxd one has
Fury Road
Coherence
Robocop
Night is short walk on girl
Robocop that high? Damn
It's just very effective for its length, and has immaculate vibe. || The way it did gore is very very unique || robocop
Smh you dont have the "northernlion opp" list?
if you have spiderverse on your letterboxd top 4 please stop commenting on his reviews youre just making it worse
What's that
If I had to pick 4 or 5 rn, probably would go, in no particular order
Hellboy
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Princess Mononoke
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
But there's so many that I love
mine would be weeb shit and the batman
The Batman is high up there
Though my favorite batman movie ever is Mask of the Phantasm
I rewarched it last week
Really amazing
BTAS is like the Batman bible in a lot of ways to me, so it just was like
The culmination of everything that made btas so good
Nice list
Haven't watched Scott Pilgrim
I have a lot of nostalgia for BTAS and Batman Beyond but I dont think itd be my vibe these days. Mask of Phantasm is good though
Thank you, I am used to someone getting bent out of shape about Hellboy so that's a nice change of pace
Understandable
my top 4 hasn't changed
- Inglorious Basterds
- Akira
- The Dark Knight
- Jurassic Park
i am but a simple man
hellboy is cool idr enough about it to say anything
I have a btas artbook, a noce figure so it's just my deal
I didn't even know Scott Pilgrimage was that popular until it got anime
Aurocorrect but cba to edit
Inglorious Basterds is a good film but I hate Tarintino so out of spite I put it at like 30 lmao
you might have the most basic list of anyone Ive ever seen in this server and I respect you for that
lol i can't pretend to like some obscure foreign movie i never watched more than once 😭
I got into it when the movie came out then I read the comics
Which went way hard
Also if you want a foreign movie that's good, always Umbrellas of Cherbourg
I have Drive My Car on my TBW
scott pilgrim is a cultural touchstone in the US
just speaking from experience as an american
Americans...
You know you said Lucy had a basic list
But
This is ACTUALLY the first time Ive seen someone put Jurassic Park
Every video I see of this guy makes him feel like kinda an asshole
I thought that movie was just like "oh yeah everyone likes Jurassic Park why would I put it in my top 5"
i want people to know , i'm that guy
hes jokingly pretentious (but actually pretentious) but hes a good guy that talks about funny stories about his daughter being the goat and stuff so you cant hate him
I respect it Lucy
Jurassic Park was fine for me but I dont even own it on blu ray, so it's something Id probably only watch if someone was like already watching it
I think I might replace robocop with Naam Mera Joker or 3 Idiots for some Indian movie rep
But my list is probably that
Jurassic Park isn't in my top 5 but itd crack a top 10 or something
I grew up with that film to a degree I'm not sure I actually appreciate how much it changed the industry and public perception of dinosaurs I kinda just take it for granted
I know the context now but it's still sorta my baseline
What's your favorite like objectively bad movie?
its not even bad, but Benchwarmers
The Flying Luna Clipper
I think in that I would need a movie to do at least 1 thing really good
So Moonfall probably?
this shit is a Masterpiece IDGAF
The Independence day's creator's movie
It has that got actor and that Aquaman actor
|| his brother || aquaman
Gotcha
I am thinking of movies Ive seen in theaters. Forgot I watched Kung Fu Panda 4
That was a let down
Flying Luna Clipper is a whole film made in 1987 on 8bit MSX computers bringing to life random illustrations the director made for a PC magazine with a loose plot to connect the skits
It does like || Moon is an artificial megastructure which is protecting the Earth from an AI swarm|| Moonfall
Which is like so cool
Bon you might enjoy Moonfall
there's an anime with similar premise you like
Holy hell it's art but like in the worst way possible. I love it
My favorite kind of movie
I have to watch Del Toro's Frankenstein
I gotta wait until February tho
Nausicaa very good
Red does dole out the cred here
i haven't watched Nuasicaa yet
It's a great film yeh
It might actually be my favorite movie of all time but I list alien first because the posters look better in that order
Though most of Ghibli I am a huge fan of like most anyone
if a ghibli movie ever made my top 4 it would probably be
Princess Mononoke or Porco Rosso
Mononoke is goated I love it
Porco Rosso
The movie I am still trying to crack is Boy and the Heron
I watched it once in theaters and I was like tf
Because half the things I log are like 3-7 minutes long
I forget to log shit all the time
I regularly log special effects tests and shorts I watch
have you watched
House of Small Cubes
if not go watch it
Yeah
Big fan
If I don't give something a number rating it's probably not an actual film
But I log this stuff kinda like an influence folder to reference
No Country for Old Men, that's another film I would put in my top 5, maybe over something like Scott Pilgrim. Or Her and Coraline
thought so
I do see probably like
4 "normal" films a week?
But that's cuz my body is so fucked up
take care bon
But yeah going through artist portfolios and watching their lil short films and experiments is kinda what I do during my breaks at work if I'd rather hang in my car than actually go to the break room
Opens me to new ideas
Even though I still only post anime and videogame fanart online and none of my creative writing or formal artwork
manifesting a Bon animated movie or graphic novel or comic
I kinda subscribe to the idea that if you just watch a good thing and want to make something like it its hard to make anything more than a facsimile of it
You're seeing a peak without the surrounding landscape
You need to dive
I agree
Im nuturing a stupid dinosaur idea so I'm watching tons of stuff surrounding how dinosaurs have been depicted in film and the art of the people who assisted on and then had careers following Jurassic Park, King Kong, etc while also reading books on the waves of paleontology and depictions of dinosaurs throughout the last century
this guy i knew from work was into short films, a lot stuff he would make was very Conjuring inspired
It gives me the context to get why the things I thought were sick as a kid were so special
And I can pull from the works I think have good ideas but suck ass
💯
All the best man
🙏
So yeah I guess I see myself as a wannabe sfx and animation historian in my hobby more than I do a film snob
Which is wanky and probably sounds obnoxious but that's how I enjoy things lmao
Sometimes
I stopped watching them since they went super pro Gen AI
otherwise their breakdown of stuff used to be super fun to watch
Pretty sure it's a phase they'll get over but yeah I barely touch their videos rn
Yeah counting 3
Frankenstein ch 5 ||okay its starting to get good||
Oscar nominations out
F1 nominated for best picture lol
OBAA sweep tho
As long as Sean Penn wins best supporting that's fine with me. I think Leo should win best actor again too but it'll probably go to Jordan imo
@modern lichen which one is your favorite of these out of curiosity
Best Picture:
Bugonia
F1
Frankenstein
Hamnet
Marty Supreme
One Battle After Another
The Secret Agent
Sentimental Value
Sinners
Train Dreams
One Battle After Another for sure
ye
It’s my favorite film of 2025
F1 would win cuz Apple Money
and saudi money
if F1 wins I'd actually laugh so hard
Damn I haven't watched any movie of this year other than F1 and Frankenstein
Arguably the two worst films on that list lol
I liked F1 enough
well I enjoyed it really
It's a fun movie and Brad Pitt's charismatic and gives a good performance
I think it's fun sure
I'm such a OBAA glazer I honestly think Leo, Penn, and PTA should win their categories
And I am not a movie buff like yall
should watch it one of these days
You should!
wait goro
what was the name of that book series you recommended me again
the fantasy murder mystery thing
Shadow of the Leviathon
First book is The Tainted Cup
nice ty
Anime snubbed again…
100m time then..
F1 will not win it but we never know with the Oscars
OBAA is the clear front runner
Probably Saturday
I have a competition I am grinding for in that day
gonna win it and watch 100m to celebrate 😎
thought I could finish it today and watch Mercy tomorrow to celebrate but gotta postpone it
Good luck on the competition 🙂
I think Sinners will win
It’s the most nominated film EVER
My preferred quartet is
Supporting Actress: Wenmi Mosaku -Sinners
Supporting Actor - Jacob Elordi - Frankenstein
Best Actor - Timothee Chalamete
Best Actress - Jesse Buckley - Hamnet
Then for Best Picture I personally want Marty Supreme but I think it’ll be Sinners
thanks red
More voters are based on previous awards will vote for OBAA
Being most nominated doesn't really factor here
Unless you actually win
Oscar voters follow trends and also established directors works more, PTA is simply a bigger name than Coogler
OBAA spoilers ||how tf did Tenya Taylor get nominated and not Chase Infiniti, I like Tenya Taylor but this might be the glaze of a century||
this is true
Odessa was snubbed also.
Animated Feature
“Arco”
“Elio”
“KPop Demon Hunters”
“Little Amélie or the Character of Rain”
“Zootopia 2”
A joke 😭
I’ll be shocked if KPDH doesn’t win
KPDH minor spoilers ||I don’t know how Golden is getting nominated, Free and What It Sounds Like are wayyy better||
what else were you expecting?
zootopia 2 and kpdh are super big
100 meters 😔
bro no one has probably heard of that
even among like
anime fandom
I haven't seen it be talked anywhere except here
Well I was kinda shocked Demon Slayer or even Chainsaw Man didn’t get nominated
Maybe ill watch arco seems interesting
Remember seeing it a long time ago
In a trailer
Wicked 2 not nominated for anything, I’m elated
“Arco”
“Elio”
“KPop Demon Hunters”
“Little Amélie or the Character of Rain”
“Zootopia 2”
DS didn't make it
its probably KPop Demon Hunters
No CSM or Hyakuemu but, sure, let’s nominate Zootopia
lol the Oscars are so racist its crazy
🙂↔️
"we don't do sequels or franchises, except when we get paid a lot of money from Disney"
Zootopia is the highest grossing Disney film ever made, did you guys think it would not get nominated
Also it’s possible CSM and 100 meters was not sent for consideration
Lucy you’re so ignorant it’s funny, why do you think that’s cap
I’m gonna be completely honest I don’t know shit about the film except that it’s a sequel to a film that’s already won an Oscar
Walt Disney Animated Studios has the money and means to run a for your consideration campaign and then some
Zootopia 2 not being there would have been the snub
That woulda been nuts
Not saying it's a cinematic masterpiece, it's a cute movie, but Zootopia does numbers and people love it
I forgot Elio even existed
I don't really care much about Oscars or Emmys or Grammys so I rarely check these lists
I'll go see what else is nominated
Nezha 2 probably should be the movie in its place but its absence is the least surprising thing in the world
i only check when something new is there, but it's 😴
yeah real snub more than kny or other anime movie is nezha 2
Demon Slayer has no business being anywhere near the Oscars tbqh lol
Most anime movies from franchises Ive seen I'd give the same sentiment
Like my favorite OP movie is strong world and it's not close to Oscar worthy imo
If Oscar worthy is like the definition of quality here
I love Strong World but I wouldn't award it anything
I feel like Baron Omaturi has artistic merit separate from the existing OP continuity and fandom
That's the only one tho
I can agree with that
I haven't seen the new Demon Slayer movie or the CSM movie. I plan to but Ive read both series manga chapters covering those arcs
So my interest is fairly limited
F1 was the only movie i watched out of Oscar nominations this year
So it’s the best one
Let’s fucking goooooo f1
All my eggs in the f1 basket
For me it's sinners
I watched half of sinners andnthen didn’t finish it because it was too late
You know what i did finish
F1 baby
The better movie is clear
This sounds like a personal problem
Same
I'm waiting for streaming for the latter and I'm just dragging my feet on the prior
marty supreme doesn't seem interesting
Obaa or marty will win best picture me thinks
OBAA also doesn't but I am just planning to watch it cuz folks here like it
Oh shit
he doesn't do thta
love you too bro

you got this reputation by your own hard work
Idk why thats not the first time I’ve gotten those movies mixed up
I am very much a critical thinker bro i just am open and honest
With myself and others
What do u prefer between sinners and obaa
OBAA
Oh thats ur pick for best picture too ?
No his pick is f1
SO TRUE
someone gets me
We were playing a trivia game and i got cooked by calvin and hobbes 😭
Wombat, I think you think openly and express your opinions freely and engage with conversation about those opinions pretty well
Also surprised marty supreme is nominated so much. My friend watched it and the way they described it, it was the worst movie released in the past decade
Whether or not those opinions you have are good tho

Marty Supreme seems to be talked up a lot about the performances
But Idk much about it
I'd probably give it to Sinners
Only movies ive watched that are on the list this year are KPDH, Sinners, and Avatar. I think they are all good enough to be winners, but it's not like I know their competition.
I gotta be honest, I watched the first Avatar back when it came out in theaters against my will
And I think it has poisoned me on liking that franchise
i mean, i dont think anyone could be mad if Avatar wins "best visual effects". Best costuming yeah maybe not
dw we are all joking with Wombat about his antics in here and offtopic
Nah I wouldn't be mad. I haven't seen the movie so I can't comment
Lol I know I was setting up a "your opinions are bad" joke
oh didn't see tht
the F1 Movie is ruined when you are an F1 fan imho 😭
Timmy getting it
Even my friend who has no clue about anything f1 thought it was dumb
I think it’s just boring
honestly being an f1 fan probably makes it better because it just becomes absurd then
I haven’t seen Marty supreme tbf but idk. From what I’ve tangentially heard about, it sounds kind of overrated lol
honestly good point, i thought it was absurd 😭
kevin o leary being in marty supreme brings it down by a lot
how lol
Calvin Hobbes
||Which one of the following is not one of Calvin’s imaginary alter egos in the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes?
Spaceman Spiff
Stupendous Man
General Freedom
Tracer Bullet ||
Is it tracer bullet
That’s what I guessed lmao
Calvin and Hobbes ||I was like “no way they’d let the word bullet in.” And I know comics be doing propaganda so General freedom seems reasonable ||
calvin and hobbes is anything but propaganda
it's pretty good but it's kinda the same vibe as the other safdie bros movies. If you've seen uncut gems or good time and liked them you will like marty too
but Timmy was great
Started Words of Radiance
Words of peak
Words of Mid
Read the prologue last night
And I'm still early in Mistborn 1 ||Vin is now at the party undercover. Nothing exciting happening yet, but I bet something goes south very fast.||
||Isn’t that part 2|| mistborn 1
yes
Gonna try to read frankenstein at work
It took a little bit to get into the rhythm of this book
But I’m liking it

For some reason idk if it will stay, but I’ve only been able to read like two chapters or so at a time
Just something i haven’t been able to binge read
I’m ginna try though

Speaking of this did you see the scrapped ending lmfao
You might have sent it to me in DMs
ok after the wheel of time and before probably doing some rereads need some suggestions for peak epic fantasy books
chronicles of black company
The way of kings
It has to be fantasy?
malazan
ay YO GAS
Star Wars Maul Shadow Lord Trailer - || https://vxtwitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/2014384009917170024?s=20 ||
The first trailer for ‘MAUL - SHADOW LORD’ has been released.
Premiering April 6 on Disney+
Clone Wars / Maul Shadow Lord - ||Apparently this will take place one year after the clone wars
||
Always a jedi
There millions of jedi
Like Jesus
read
read the premise and seems a bit too loose
King Killer Chronicles?
I might do that, I think I read somehow only the second book of that
but also that's the one where it's obviously never getting finished so idk
im not trying to argue with your preferences necessarily but what do you mean by loose
doesn't seem like a cohesive enough plotline through the books from what I can see
yeah i guess that is true but thats kinda why i liked it after wheel of time
its like on the other end of that spectrum
it feels more like a epic trip through a living world than a stage play where everything needs to fall perfectly in line for this main plot
there is a main plot but its definitely less centered than something like wot
what I usually like the most about insanely long books is following characters throughout as long of a journey as possible which doesn't seem to be a thing there
man wheel of time must be really good, other than this server i never hear people talk about it 😭
some people do make it all the way through but your sense that its 'loose' is correct in that some people get picked up like halfway through or even later. And some people get left behind and dont get to participate in the final battle. But that made it feel more real to me. It didnt feel like everyone had to be funneled into this final battle if they didnt have their own motivations to be there.
wheel of time tricks you into thinking it's good by being so fucking long that you forget the bad parts
?????
mann
you really have a very less exposure to a lot of media 😭
it's like the biggest name in fantasy of 1990s
even before asoiaf
it just didn't get a tv show like asoiaf to boost its popularity into tv audience
like in wheel of time it felt like every single person we ever met needs to be taken along to do at least some small thing in this final battle. I think anime is typically like that too. Malazan was more comfortable with certain people having a limited role and not being swept up into everything if there wasnt good reason for them to be
until it did....
i mean most of my friends are more into scifi /cyberpunky type vibes
other than Witcher and GoT i don't really get down in fantasy like that
witcher and GoT boht got successful tv
it does still have the big important characters who go along the whole journey but its less the case that every single character needs to be incoporated somehow
Malazan is already epic in scope than most fantasy and I am only 50% into book one
and well even then it is kinda more tight than I wanted
in like adood's sense of loose-tight
just accept that most people don't read books compared to watch tv and this all makes sense. even i didn't know about the wheel of time til a few years ago (and that was before any tv announcement)
yeah i agree
that's like
the premise of my argument lol
that lucy's exposure to media is limited to mostly movie and tv
it's perfectly fine to not have heard of this stuff. better late than never. i'm still not reading WOT.
ye
😭
like I dropped JoJo's the moment I realized it's new characters every time lol that's just not for me
thats why audiobooks are good
i don't like audiobooks, they just don't click for me
I just can't do them qbz
I am doing one
uhh
arthur conan doyle's wonderful new world
it just like gives me 5x more time for 'reading' than i would have if it were only sit down reading
or smth
what i do with books, is use the hour i have before bed and read. sometimes it's only 30-45 min. but it helps
even when I am listening to it while walking
lol i mean are you reading at that point 😭 you're just listening
I have to go back 1 min like a couple of times
it's considered reading yes
theres so much bullshit in day to day life you have to do like chores, exercise, walks that can support audiobooks
i dont need my brain on when im like vacuuming
a lot of people skim over descriptions lol
