#western-series

mickey 17 is unironically very low effort
Think I'm gonna roll with ET I haven't seen it since I was like 4
Most iconic Nickelodeon movie
the biggest fumble was them not doing a Batman Beyond movie like the Spider-Verse films
Why's DC so afraid to use Batman Beyond that shits had staying power
We should have had an Arkham style game about it 10 years ago
These puppets are such weird little freaks I already dig this movie
Very good bit that the only thing I’ve seen you praise for the last few years is arcane
And that fumbled in the second season with its politics
i did not praise arcane's politics lol
also i feel like people have confirmation bias with my negativity lol i really do like a lot of stuff
??? Lies
i watched all we imagine as light recently and liked it a lot
i liked 28 years later
i wrote very positively about lady bird in here
yeah that was basically it this year in #western-series but i wrote negatively about the same amount of titles
Ngl I've never seen you like anything
😭
not my fault you guys talk about superhero stuff in here 90% of the time
and if not that it's fantasy novels
i didnt see it, scrolled up a bit and saw harsh send something
Ngl I don't have much hype for anemone
Also yeah dceu exists
Its out now for me and everyone
I think
Idk if its out in the uk
They like 3 weeks behind
im not in the uk LMAO
UK people get everything late
ok looks like it's out oct 3rd? if you're not in nyc
I didn’t say you praised its politics. You had some criticisms but seemingly enjoyed it over all? The way you wrote about it, I could see some genuine excitement over it which I rarely see from you over in other series for example. I just think it’s cute that you had some glee and wonder over a franchise you enjoy while always going meh to things harsh likes hahahaha
Don’t even get me started
to be sure i would rate arcane like the same thing i rated this film
It’s crazy that I didn’t even like Arcane season 2 much
That’s why I didn’t even discuss it because I just didn’t care
I’ve had my fair share of good discussions about One Battle in another server, so I’m good off discussing that here as well, 90% this channel is just Sanderson and superhero shit
I think I read the good absolutes so I’m over it. I don’t think I’ll bother with flash and green arrow
Pretty much
Thats up to you I enjoy those too
Green Lantern? Yeah those are the worse books in the line compared to the stellar Big 3 and Manhunter books
Everyone always dead set on a good absolute
They are all good
Specially since absolute evil kinda bitch smacked everyone
Absolute evil 1 ||need to see what mirror master and brainiac are cooking up with the info.||
The wager ||Its so crazy that back in the day they could just force you to work on a shift if they found you walking around the pier. You could just be ending a 2 year voyage ready to see your family and then get scooped up. The British have been truly evil since the dawn of time||
Already checked out with Giuseppe on art. I am a hater. I might have enjoyed superior spider-man if not for the art
This is the only issue coming out
Lmao
😭
Fucking absolute hater
Its a one shot
"I'm not gonna read this is don't like the art"
Is that not the big crossover
Complain later when this is important
No dingus
This is for absolute
Holy shit
😭
He shat on it
Immediately
I can react accordingly
But absolute evil is important
Ok? He doesn’t know, if he doesn’t like the art then just ignore him and continue enjoying, it’s not a personal slight towards you that he doesn’t want to read it lol
Who said it was
Why does everyone assume I take this shit personally
React in any energetic way and I get told I'm being aggressive
Like settle down with the analysis
No one is analysing you lol
ET the Extraterrestrial ||This ugly lil bastard wandering around the kitchen drunk in a children's bath robe is fucking awesome||
Et the extraterrestrial || i love the little bastard but I'll always be salty he ruined how aliens were depicted for a couple of years. I remember when I found out the thing dint do as well and got slammed for showing scary aliens after ET happened. But this is a classic still.||
Every studio chasing the popularity of Star wars definitely caused a huge burnout on sci-fi films in the early 80s among audiences the same way we're seeing a lull in superhero interest rn
ET kinda reignited it by being so different, down to earth and family friendly
You had it, Blade Runner, Wrath of Khan and The Thing all simultaneously release in theaters the same month
And the switch up was nasty
They nominated the soundtrack for a razzy
Which is insane
John Carpenter's first big studio film came with a big studio composer in the legendary form of Ennio Morricone.
Giving this a razzy is legit demented
That was all the same month ?
😭
Tf was that month
Just a lot of studios pumping out their attempts to cash in on the wave and directors who made hit 70s films following up with their next project at the same time
I only found our recently big trouble in little china was a flop
Which I found so interesting
I think with all the competition, and with The Thing being scrutinized heavily as a remake of a classic, and by critics who were generally against the gorey slasher film transition that hotto was going through, it totally fell through the cracks
It has so much that makes it a classic
I have a scifi film encyclopedia from the time calling it carpenters worst film
Yeah I think in general film critics were behind the curve at the time cuz film was changing so much in the early 80s
Bon what do you think of big trouble in little china
And audiences were overloaded with options since shit ran in theaters for ages
Just curious
Suprising
It's been there for a while I just don't wanna give Amazon 3 bucks for the rental
But its a great movie
Ngl
Thats a steal
For how great of a time it is
Like 3 bucks for that is worth more than a ticket to most films these days
Making an effort to finally knock out that oldest page of my letterboxd watch list and it's on there
But I do agree that 70s,80s and 90s people were spoiled
Ngl
In hindsight idk if most knew how much gold there was
It feels like a lot of they time they din't rewatch later when they were on vhs or dvd
I got to watch come and see
Thats on my list for a while
Besides that this is on the list
I like wizards
It's weird and messy but interesting
But also I'm a bakshi apologist and like most of his films
I mean i feel they really tried to go apeshit back in the day
We still get that nowadays ar times
But it feels more like they dont want to let them off the reserve
Also I gotta rewatch solaris
Also idk if anyone has been looking at set photos of doomsday
But them posting green screens
Gotta be the most atrocious thing I've seen
I hate green screens
Something like golum or the apes seems OK. Basically Andy serkis
Its just not very conducive
"Here you go green screens. You guys ever see these ?"
ET was a very good movie which I guess is the least surprising takeaway for one of the most iconic movies ever made
haters exist..
Yeah I've seen Juba's score
Honestly it's a perfect movie at what it's the trying to achieve and Spielberg's the king of writing family dynamics (and the animatronic work holds up)
But I think both Lilo & Stitch and The Iron Giant are able to take everything ET achieved and raised the bar a bit higher
Saying something isn't 5 stars because knock offs released a decade later are more polished feels mean but also the strength of ET is being a children's fairy tale and I think both those films would retain the attention of a child in 2025 way fuckin better and also speak a little more to the modern childhood experience, parts of ET feel a little too antiquated to still be relatable. The ravages of time are beginning to affect it
what did i rate et lmao
2 stars
yeah that's about right
Man with no whimsy 😔
Yeah that seems about right for a juba review
Even thinking of the score can make me emotional there’s some magic in it
😭
Also rewatched raiders of the lost ark
Really do end up enjoying it more than ET personally
ET ||tfw a single divorced mother working a part time job with a toddler and two young boys can afford a home like this in 1982||
This is what I mean by aspects of the film feeling like a fuckin time capsule lol
damn
I respect the honesty
I have some childhood movies people love that I dislike
so I get it
Trying to think of a childhood iconic film I have disdain for
Matilda but that's cuz my sister had me watch it a dozen times on family car trips its not the films fault
I got back by playing the Sonic OVA
Ngl I think you and me disagree on most things
Outside of the reeves batman movie i think, Nolan and maybe supes
Most of everyone here got wildly different tastes
True and that's fun
But even more fun is joking that Juba hates everything
I respect Juba
He and I look for completely different things in film and art in general but I trust him on everything that's not videogames
Bro talks about League too much it's alarming
I have accepted I wouldn't ever dig deep in media in areas that Juba would
I am happy that way
This is true
this is real
Idk man there's nolan's tdk and it's not close
8/10 movie
The Batman 10/10 movie
there are 0 mediocre or bad elements of The Batman
there are a plethora in TDK
don't let the joker's performance carrying it blind you
Theres a w conclusion too
And the dynamic bw joker n batman was insane so im not sure
there was no dynamic
There is some dumb stuff in the Batman
the joker carried their "dynamic"
The Batman || what? Maybe the romance? I thought it got the right amount of focus for what it was, and how quick it is felt purposeful. But I see that complaint a lot||
Played a strong antag
Another w
Also the highs in tdk are way higher than in the batman
I don't disagree it to be 8/10
But the batman isn't 10/10 either
The Dark Knight ||I'll never care about Rachel and I think the decision Gordon and Bruce make in the final scene, while a memorable quote, is also fuckin stupid
Also just not a fan of "one man militarized police" Batman||
this is a negative
The best on screen joker dynamic is btas and arkham tbh
real...
How is that stupid 😭
Well nvm
The Dark Knight Rises ||this film literally confirms all the concerns about that decision||
I'm happy that Gunn is not using that type of batman
He already told us what his batman will be like
TDK ||for how much batman as an entity focuses on the relentless nature of gotham's underworld, it sure did conveniently solve every problem just because of some plot device bill being passed as a result of harvey's death. ||
I think Gunn might lean into the more supernatural aspects of Batman that have kinda gone away
He literally told us what
The kinda version of him who can just fight Manbat or Mad Monk without justification
Oh did he
I don't keep up with his daily trivia
Or maybe I forgot
Denny o'neil
So Gothic fantastic type beat
His run is peak batman its what inspired btas
The Batman ||the whole Spanish thing was kinda silly. I’d have to rewatch it since covid has kinda destroyed my memory retention but I remember feeling like he didn’t solve anything really, he was always trailing behind and late to stuff. He didn’t seem like the world greatest detective. Again I haven’t seen it in a few years and I did like it a lot but I remember saying that to myself lol||
We havent had fantastic Gothic batman ever
Idk if 1989 even counts
Or returns
Ngl I dont think dcu batman gonna be campy
😭
Its gonna be closer to actual batman
‘89 and Returns absolutely counts as Gothic Batman
the dark knight rises has a bunch of weird defenders because of zizek lol
They're definitely gothic
The Batman ||this was the only thing he didn't solve. And it was simply because he was a sheltered lad unfamiliar with spanish, which was fitting.
He solved the carpet cutter as an example. He was definitely a step behind, but that is because the riddler trusted in batman's capability and planned for him to be a step ahead. So he kept his plans up to speed with those expectations. This is literally the only live action batman that actually deduces literally anything without being carried by some tech bullshit||
Idk about fantastical
I better see robin in his silly little outfit and Batman calling him chum
Returns is but in a way that's kinda separate from how the comics are since it's so Tim Burton coded
89 is pretending to be grounded in the rules of reality
Not fantastic enough for me
I want like 8 shots of Nightwings ass filling the camera
Played it pretty safe in that regard
I think Mike Flanagan was in death stranding 2 as an npc
Kojima collecting directors like the avengers
I almost watched the '04 Catwoman movie instead of ET tonight
Meow
The directors initiative
Bullet dodged
Might be good
Robin is confirmed to be damian
So not likely
😭
Gonna run headfirst into that bullet
damn you missed out
Gonna watch that and the Lego Batman movie before ever seeing Begins
I don't think I've seen Batman Forever either
Seems like the most forgotten theatrical batman
Batman & Robins at least an ironic meme machine
Do u guys like dune
Batman better be Dick
And Timothee's performance
With Bruce in the chair
Imagine if they had the fuckin balls to do Dickbats and Stephanie Brown batgirl
Dick and Damian was actually so good
Movies yes
Books, the first 4
Batman is gonna be bruce
We getting nightwing and red hood
Tim erasure
Who cares about Bruce give us el gaucho and knight and squire
I’m actually very confident Tim will be in BATB

@foggy mirage ten days
Finally something
Boomers legit just love ai images lmfao
started reapers gale finally but damn this shit is boring tf out of me
Malazan bad bad fr fr
I honestly think i shouldnt have picked it up
But now i am in too deep
I need to see it finish
ooh i like this concept
malazan is good
youre almost at the peak
the end of toll the hounds is so fuckin good
and the cripplied god is nonstop gas
yea i mean i will finish it. spent too much time not to plus like if i finished wot i can probably slog towards the end in malazan as well
i shouldve probably done elderlings instead tbh, it seems more my jam.
i started reading the poppy war which kinda reminds me of mistborn but i like it more
Entirely different type of story, characters, themes, and world
I don't understand how poppy War is reminiscent of era 1
young outcast protag learns magical powers that enables her to fight back against oppression?
ooh sounds interesting
I cannot stop thinking about the two films I watched yesterday and today, One Battle After Another (yesterday) and an Indian film (today)
It’s called Kantara: Chapter 1
mistborn || kind of abandons the whole revolution theme after book 1 which is unfortuenate. i would have liked to see that explored more instead of the dictatorship vs democracy shit ||
I’m not current on WW or Supes
Fair
I think the approach and execution differs so much and its a very common trope that it didn't serve as being remunscuent od the other
WW = MM > Bats > Supes > Flash > Green Lantern
yeah i guess thats what im getting at the differences in where that they take that concept is what has me preferring it over mistborn
Absolute Green Arrow latest ||This feels like a 100% setup for Roy to become the actual Absolute Green Arrow to me. Darkseid probably doesn’t give a shit about Roy at all, like he initially didn’t with Oliver. Oliver just started fucking with the EPSTEIN ISLAND LEAGUE OF VILLIANS 😭||
mistborn 1 || none of the high society ballroom type scenes worked for me at all ||
Ah that's a bummer
i liked the rest
But well, RAFO
I’ll give it a shot for sure
but it just felt.. ingenuine? I guess? It felt like a middle aged man writing a teenage girl I could see sanderson behind the curtain

I have big issues with this book in my reread that it went from like my top series to "Do I even want to continue this reread"
TFE || I found them very genuine. But I did have issue of Valette and Vin part being very disjoint in the story ||
But still I look at this series fondly cuz latter of her books have become a medium to write her academia opinion pieces
same
Which could be fun at start, but when half of her career and her last 3 continuous works have been that, it got super stale for me
anytime he writes anything with a lil spice, his mormonism becomes apparent
Very true lol
I can’t shake it with any of his characters now
this is why dalinar is his best character work
not saying i dislike him as a whole i think he did such a good job in the end of wheel of time.
He just needs to write an author self-insert power fantasy
and era 1 is pretty solid as a whole for me probably like a B
its just not like.. peak excellence
Same for me ig
I like TFE and WoA decent bit
HoA has good story beats but I had a lot of issues with writing
And is my least fav reading experience in a long while
Its just surprising to me that u can dislike a book because of the epigraphs lol
More than that
I ranted way less about other stuff here lol
Didn't want to convert this channel into my Mistborn rant spam
WoA however went from one of my fav books to just okay with just one decision tho
Yea i remember. Even that is a critique i dont think i have heard before lol
The reason why most ppl including me dislike the book, u seem to think is a good plotpoint
I didn't even discuss that book before finishing or knew anything so it lol. Idk what the popular criticisms and etc are
WoA is flawless to me up until that point
You were needed above in the convo Muk
What convo
Just scroll some dozens of messages up
I see it now
Gonna take a break before era 2 and read
- Space Opera by a longass name author
- Tchaikovsky's what looks like Dr Who fanfic
- first entry in Elric
I will see about this
Agree with what
The message you replied to
I’m gonna get my head out my ass with Stormlight very soon
I’ve had a chaotic schedule
Absolute evil ||it's bait the omega symbol in the back and the hair. Brainiac wanted this guy to join their squad. So very likely just a rich guy living in the country side. And he's gonna end up being a menace.||
where are u at
Wor
oh ok
Words of radiance ||dalinar is very good so far for sure. Kaladin was my favorite character progression in the series so far.||
Good
Words of radiance ||shallan is dope too. Adolin has potential he just has to have it realized.||
|| Szeth, Shallan, Kaladin were my 3 favs by that point || WoR
Words of radiance ||szeth as a character I’m not completely sold on yet given how little we’ve seen of him but as an entity or story telling device or whatever he’s really good||
row spoilers|| in theory i should love kaladin but the way his character arc is structured is just odd. his character revelations always having to coincide with sanderlanches is a detriment and ends up feeling contrived imo. feels like sanderson keeps him in his cycle of misery and drags it on until the end of the book. Wok doesnt do this at all which is why i think its the 2nd best entry in tsa ||
Weird thing is that words of radiance has already hooked me. My work schedule has just been so hellish
Row || Its more so that his character realization causes Sanderlanche tho in this one ||
Even in TWOK || Its cuz of Kaladin's decision, that the sannderlanche begins ||
Words of radiance part 2 end ||still don’t think jasnah is dead. There’s simply no way||
Closest might be WoR end || but even in here, its the circumstances created for Kaladin to have the opposite effect and its due to who he is and the support he has had, he reaches that point ||
OB || and in this, he fails to take that decision ||
twok || wouldnt u consider the scene at the chasm the revelation ? even than i think that kaladin's progress in that book is pretty natural imo||
|| but its not that the realization occurred due to Sanderlanche, but the events of it started cuz of his realization.
He got the story to go to that direction ||
Twok
I have a early flight tomorrow morning. Can't be up discussing lol.
Later 👋
ima have a lot of travel time over holidays ima try to pick up stomlight then
but i think i can fit in the poppy war trilogy and maybe one other before that
How far are u
Pt 2 still?
Its okay I’ve taken a tiny break from OB
But I’m finally starting to get back to reading
Holy shit fellas @mild seal @unkempt agate it’s C4 day
1960s/1970s clickbait covers remain undefeated (this one drawn by Neal Adams lol)
Ah fuck i'll be in class lmao
Have fun man!
ITS THURSDAY NIGHT
I’ll be going out of town tomorrow but I’ll be able to catch the first 3 hours of the broadcast tomorrow
Should be fun
I'm gonna be a VOD watcher this campaign
AIB S3 all ep ||I don't get why people hate this season, (just because Chisiya isn't in it the whole time? Lol). I like the new characters and they even gave us a good ending. 🖤.||
Nah this is cracked
And he wants to work with raimi
How old is Tobey? Like 50 something
Teenage/college Spidey is better though
Nah
Ya
Fuck that
If i can get a great 4th raimi movie
I'm taking it
Even raimi is interested
I say let them do it
No shot amazing 3 happens tho ngl thats cooked
still looks the same as he did with a few extra wrinkles tbh lol
Unless he ages drastically
But he seems to have taken care of himself
More suprised the batman writer is interested
@foggy mirage @south hatch
Batman - || https://vxtwitter.com/IzzybnArt/status/1973373939410686161this ||
edit is crazy 🔥
The reeves batman writer is writing sm 4 too?
Have you read 3 Body Problem?
It'd prose is clunky, cuz of maybe being serialized Chinese physical novel and then being translated but the scifi stuff is amazing
yeah i did
first 3 pretty good, 4th is literally a fan fiction and reads like it. Its that kind of thing that answers questions that would have better been left as mysteries
Yea
If you want a longer series but of shorter fun character oriented scifi stories, try Murderbot
ill add it to my wishlist. Im mostly done poppy war gona finish the other 2. The other thing on my radar is like jade city or something like that. Some trilogy with names like jade
like you dont like things set in cities? Or im not sure exactly what that means
Poppy War || Liked the tonal shift and pacing in second half? ||
i think im only at the beginning of that, || war just broke out || maybe almsot done was an overstatement
Magic set in urban times never reflect the world's tech/magic+tech progression thau should have existed if the magic existed since like 1600s
oh like it doesnt feel true like its not realy grappling with all the implications/results of the availability of hte magic?
Most deal with it in like surface level
Which is still immersion breaking
Some do a cop out. Like Dresden || saying "Magic doesn't mesh well with tech" ||
havent read feel like i shouldnt click
but thats one ive heard high praise for, would you not reccomend?
I wouldn't recommend 99% of urban fantasy in general
But even then, it suffers from mc being so misogynistic and sexist
i guess thats not inherently a dealbreaker for me in that mcs can be flawed. As long as its not like.. glorifying those flaws
Till the point I read, the book doesn't addresses it
Makes sense cuz his older book series literally had || Women crying any time they were faced with a intense battle or scene/etc and it wasn't that bad for men || Codex Alera
GBS is dubbed as best Urban fantasy so maybe it excelled at that
The vibe of the setting is 80s gangster movies
He really wants to it seems
Soon in the dcu
did you see this by the way

we COOKING 🧑🍳
oh no, that means metropolis will be canon in the marvel comics
Watching The Corpse Bride
This feels like I'm watching a playlist of all the cutscenes in a Tim Schafer game
Finally
Been a while
bruh Gunn and Feige about to bring out of the greatest collab events ever
Everyone liked that announcement
hbo site done crashed or what 😭
cloudflare 😡
Peacemaker S02E07 - || 32 Minute Episode LOL You gotta be fucking kidding me James ! 😭 ||
The GOATs
Corpse Bride is such a visually imaginative movie and the story is genuinely kinda novel but I kinda think it doesn't work at all?
The whole movie is stiff
Pacing isn't tight, characters feel shallow, songs suck, humor isn't landing
Bad directing really brought this down
Is this like a horror version of Princess Bride
This was the best peacemaker episode omg
Pacemaker S02E07 - || holy shit WTF was that episode ||
Peacemaker S02E07 ||that was so hype!! I lowkey was scared Harcourt was going to kill other Adrien, or that Lee was going to die.||
Tim Burton post-90s
I think there's a nostalgia wave for it now but im not vibing
Peacemaker S02E07 - || lol he wasn't a nazi this entire time 😭 , i legit thought Vig was about to die this episode||
Peacemaker S02EO7 ||no fr! Also wtf I guess the brother was the problem in this universe. I really would of liked to see how the Blue Dragon was, he def seemed normal but it does seem the Chris hate is universal||
Peacemaker S02E07 - || lol the start of the episode felt like a skit fr 😭 when they showed the office mural, i was like oh we moving fast then all the sudden so much shit happened in like 15 mins. From the trailer it seemed like they were about to fight their family. Now i have no idea wtf about to happen||
Is there any news about Peacemaker season 3?
Peacemaker So2 Ep7 ||no fr!!! I got caught up this morning so I was excited and that episode went from a 0 to a 10 in seconds||
Peacemaker S02E07 - || i feel like after what happened, chris about to be locked up and they gonna move the 11th street kids into the Waller show||
Peacemaker S02 Ep7 ||oh is that a confirmed thing?||
its on the roadmap
Oh we have one of those? Sweet
its changed a bit but my guess is as good as yours on whats next
I’m very new to DC lol had never seen anything dc besides Suicide Squad 2016 but went and saw Superman got me hooked lol watched the new Suicide Squad and now Peacemaker
Is that the animated one?
yep
I’ll write it down for sure
its technically a prequel to Superman, being the first DCU project
what about Batman the animated series
Peacemaker S02E07 - || this shit had me rolling ||
I thought it was that happy happy happy song when it began ngl
Brandon Sanderson explains the changes in his publishing cycle during his career and tells us why he will finish writing the Ghostbloods trilogy before releasing the first book.

this man is finally slowing down thankfully
Peacemaker s2 ep7 ||Auggie Smith not being a racist is by far the most surprising twist of this show so far||
This episode was way better than the last one idk why Gunn was hyping 6 more
Apparently the last episode is almost an hour long thankfully
The trailer looks crazy
Peacemaker s2 ep7 ||I bursted out laughing when Vigilante came in and started stabbing him while he was giving his not a nazi speech||
Peacemaker Season 1 - || he remembered 😭 ||
10/10 episode
Peacemaker s2 ep 7 ||auggie being good legit hurt me ngl.||
Peacemaker S2E07 - || i remember watching an interview where the actor said he had a big speech in Ep 7, but this is not what i was expecting 😭 ||
Peacemaker s2ep7 ||he just cant catch a break in any world at this point.||
is someone gonna play erika now or smth
Peacemaker S2E07 - || not to get too philosophical, but i thought the scene with AD / Judomaster playing scrobble was actually really interesting social commentary from Gunn. How its not much different than the world they are from ||
we just had Stephen Sommers at my work
Thats an interesting take
I like it
The actor praises the Dardenne brothers’ compassionate approach to filmmaking, talks about Michael Haneke’s use of long takes in CODE UNKNOWN, and gets excited to explore THE WES ANDERSON ARCHIVE.
Set up a pull list at my comic shop, feels cool
Finally set up

you've influenced me to go and see this movie
perhaps monday
I was gonna see it tomorrow but now my friend can't cause of DnD obligations
smfh fuck DnD
You should, its my favorite film of the year
patiently waiting for Welcome to Derry
waiting for Blade, kang dynasty, doomsday, brand new day
Damn i thought this was like related to derry girls and got excited
Its the stupid fucking clown
I know

Kang dynasty ??
He knows
That was the plan before it turned out that Jonathan majors is a piece of shit human being
Yea ik i am just confused whys he waiting for something thats not coming
Well, it kinda seems like Hollywood is doing the same for Majors. Since he avoided jail time for the criminal charges and has only civil court cases pending, it appears they're waiting to see if public perception will change for any new announcements. His shelved movie Magazine Dreams released earlier this year and it hit decent reception given the scope of the project before and public backlash hit after. He's an actor with a past, and how many have those similar situations played out to success later in Hollywood
NOOOOOOOO
I mean, they pulled out from the official release schedule/date, went through multiple directors/scripts with no publicly named one atm, and only have the Ali actor for Blade still as official. Hell this group is so dated that Jared Leto is still being in talks about being involved
@unkempt agate @mild seal incredible first episode for Campaign 4
im waiting for the youtube drop
You can get one month beacon free with a coupon code OVERTURE
schedule wise it works better for me too
cant wait till im unemployed and that shit dont matter anymore
I’m not unemployed anymore I’ve founded a startup company with my dad so this works better because there’s not much work in the weekend
Batman never beating the alegations
Top Bat 💀
Also another chance to mention how much I love Batgirl's OG fit
Kevin Fiege had the announcement for Blade with Ali, Writers that we know of - Gene Colan Michael Green Stacy Osei-Kuffour Stars Mia Goth and obviously Ali that were announced. Maybe it's slated for good who knows.
Third October creature feature is Beetlejuice
whats gene the dean colan doing writing a blade movie
his ass needs to get back to drawing daredevil
I know I've seen this movie before but I literally don't remember a fuckin second of any of it so far and I'm an hour in lmao
I think I saw more of the cartoon
Beetlejuice ||Can't believe this ends with a dance party like it's an Illumination movie||
Are these your fav of each year
Was gonna do this but almost the entire 90s ended up being anime movies or Disney movies and I was like yeah nevermind I'm feeling too basic
Watch so much old shit I've barely broadened my horizons from the years I was alive as a kid lol
Eh who cares it's for fun
Isn't Batman #2 out next week
poppy war like 70% || Interesting effect where the reader knows how serious the trouble the people are in when invaders doing gas attack. Cause even a handful of magic people isnt gonna stand up to the tech based weps||
|| another interesting thing is i been with the mc so I wanna be on her side but I also know this is an army and armies dont really work by every single person putting their 2c in and deciding if they want to follow the orders or pursue their own plans ||
I think so. Mad tho my comic shop apparently had a messed up order so I aint getting it until next week
Sorry not next week
The week after
Same for Absolute Batman 13
Batman 2
Is out already
Lmao
😭
Favorite dc issue was absolute evil issue
Had me talking like this to people that doubted al ewing would cook
Thats what it was. Gdi
It was great btw
If you're wondering
So definitely worth picking up
Pull list not starting hot
Worst for me
Is still the hiatus for martian
No
You will enjoy them producing mid slop
And no peak
Love them walking through a Disney Land ride promotion with none of the earnestness or wit that makes em work
And Matt Vogel as the worst Kermit I've ever heard
not going to watch but im gonna guess #1 is "The only thing he knows about is Snacks"
😭
😭 wow not even top 5
Better get to it
Im suprised ngl
Disney keeps doing power of friendship shit with the Muppets when the premise of the whole franchise is that these guys are coworkers who barely tolerate each other
Smh
LOL
with the muppets
wait i thought bert and ernie were gay
they are definitely more than friends
Was on the fence between a 1.5 and 2 for this but then remembered Geoff Keighley was in it and settled on 1.5
LOL
it's infuriating lol
only way to justify it is to say the movies are part of the keyfabe
Not a comic person so batman 2 had me thinking bout the movie for a sec lol
@foggy mirage @south hatch
Peacemaker S02E07

So is final peacemaker s2 episode next week? I’ve been waiting for it to end so I can binge
Yes
Think so
bouta mute peacemaker words ion wanna get spoiled
opened twitter like 50 times while at work on thursday after telling myself not to
luckily none of the tweets were spoilery
finally done with book 1 @tawny parcel
thoughts?
agot ending || i got spoiled that ned was gonna die 💔 . i thought he would refuse to submit to joffery and then would be killed tho. so it was still kinda surprising. the danerys chapters were also really crazy towards the end. its kinda sad that she trusted that maegi and than that ended up getting her husband and child killed. i feel like daenerys should be a bit older tho lol. shes like 13 which is kinda crazy. jon snow's story was ok ig. i like his development but plotwise he didnt do much yet. tyrion remains my favorite tho . his last chapter where he says hes gonna take the prostitute to kings landing made me laugh. the chapter where bran and rickon discover ned is dead was really well written. like its etched in my brain. ||
|| sorry for the stream of thoughts. i legit just binged the last hundred pages ||
Nah you good
Agot ||yeah, for being so isolated, I actually really enjoyed Dany’s chapters in tbis book, especially in the second half. Was interesting getting to learn about the culture even if its extremely brutal lol. Jon in book 1 just kinda getting accustomed to the wall, I get that. Its crazy that 99% people going in know ned dies but his story is still just that good anyways, like it really shines in the book ||
You have lots of good stuff coming
This was everything i wrote when i finished it lol
U plan to continue on?
Yea fosho tho idk when
It was rlly difficult reading this book during my sparse moments of free time from assignments and quizzes
Maybe during winter break
Oh interesting agot || i agree about dany, arya, ned tyrion and disagree about sansa, bran and jon even though i think all 3 are really well realised characters and i didnt find their povs boring at all, just less interesting. I think its a testament to his characterisation that all main povs are so well realised . Execpt caitelyn. She's definitely the odd one out||
agot ||catelyns scene tho where shes comforting bran and jon comes in is still one of the most brutal character moments in the book 😭 and tbh the whole series||
agot || oh i hated her so much for that||
Ago||t I think maybe on reread i might put Jons lower, but I really like Sansa, I know shes irritating but shes like supposed to be and i think its interesting getting to watch her world view shatter. She thinks shes living in little red riding hood or something but its so much worse lol||
agot|| yea her last chapter is really good||
is this your first time with got? book or tv show?
ya hes readinb books
yea first time
craxy I thought everyone watched the show
especially since ur big on fantasy already
The books are great and hearing plot points about the show just makes me laugh
i got into fantasy during covid. i think GOT popularity was alr on the decline by that point
well on hindsight sure but not when the show was the biggest shit ever
i was hesitant to pick up the series because of no ending
Agot show end ||for who has a better story then bran the broken, top 5 things tyrion would never ever say||
Georgie is at comic con this year
Surely
This week we will see winds of winter eelase date
nobody but the biggest nerds knew about the book before
not that it was bad but it was simply hard to make fantasy mainstream again after lotr movies
now everybody hates that piece of shit show and praises the book
crazy arc
Don’t people still like s1-4/6 depending who you ask
one of the biggest case of cultural rise and fall I've ever seen
in pop culture I mean
it's good television up to 4th season
Or maybe its a good thing
Because i went in blind to the books
And had a blast
And it got me to start reading again so

i dont think its getting finished tbh
I may be getting hopeful because I just caught up at the beginning of this year but like
atleast by martin
Hes nearlu headlining comic con this year
i can see his assistants or some other author picking it up
i think its just been too long atp.
Did you see that clip of that person asking who he would give the books to if he died 😭
Who asks that to the actual author
yea but it's an insane hard task
he actually said they should make brandon saderson finish it
which is crazy
Hes said he doesnt want anyone continuing it if he passes
That is diabolical
and makes me think the person hasnt read either author
grrm just can't finishe not because he doesn't want to
Do not let brandon get his grubby little hands on tbis
he wrote him self into a corner
Its because his football team is bad
The real reason
I don’t think the “corner” is as bad as people make it out to be
i think his assistants wrote the expanse ? seems like pretty good writers. i imagine if the publishing company offers a good amount of money, alot of writers would show interest
the expanse is much simpler tbh
best case scenario he left behind enough notes that a competent editor can piece the ending together
Man I’m excited for you to read the later books
2 is real good but 3 is like crazy
yea i have heard
4 is underrated and 5 is great too 🙏
my library has this crazy hard back edition with illustrations of storm of swords too
seeing the hate d&d got I can see other authors being scared of the fanbase it's gonna take a real crazy mf to take that task lol
btw wombat if u loved this, you would LOVE first law
it would be career suicide for some
abercrombie is i think the closest to martins style
I think imma read first law soon
my pc went to shit I need something else to do in my phone
Dude i still can’t believe some of the passages in got sometimes that dude locks the fuck in on his prose
George is a real good writer when he wants to write
abercrombie is martin with less worldbuilding, a bit less politics, better ability to conclude storylines, also much better battles and action. also less long winded though i dont think martin is too bad in that regard
the dialogue is really great as well
he was a screen writer apparently, which shows
There are some scenes that are vivid as can be to me in those later books
asoiaf || he truly describes explosive diarrhoea like no other || 🐐
Is there a scene of that???? 😭
Asoiaf ||Am i blanking? Or are you referring to tywin or smth 😭 ||
damn took me far too long
What book
true
a game of thrones
Oh
I’m gonna be on a mini vacation this week so I hope to make big progress in ob
Not to mention a 16 hour car drive
which part u on
reread dance
Oathbringer, Stormlight Archive book 3
Still 1 lol
You in for a treat. this is peak tsa
the three peat he hit with wok, wor and OB is wild
I have like 9 chapters till end of pt 1
I just took a bit of a long break cause the prose was starting to wear me down
I dont think it was a good idea to hop instantlg from wor to ob
Hello #fantasy-novels
u should check out piranesi if u want something very different and very well written
or a discworld book
U just rrad first law right
i think they are great palate cleansers and often end up being better than the book afterwards lol
Read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, the better Susanna Clarke book
asoiaf || what if said it's dany would that motivate you? ||
thousand pages
First Law trilogy end || fuck Bayaz, justice for Jezal ||
Alright
wait u finished ?
Yes I did
Adwd end|| “Sunset found her squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up she was shitting brown water. The more she drank, the more she shat, but the more she shat, the thirstier she grew, and her thirst sent her crawling to the stream to suck up more water. When she closed her eyes at last, Dany did not know whether she would be strong enough to open them again”||
Martin does it again
Flows like a river rapid when it gets going
Bravo
yup yup, last arguement of kings || did u predict the big twist||
Gonna check out some Robin Hobb for next year’s list
alot of ppl tell me they did and i feel dumb
Not really lol
I had an inkling
But I didn’t really justify it in my mind and read it as it went
same
u gonna continue with first law ?
i think the series gets even better
I’m gonna read some other novels
I’m rereading Between Two Fires which is a medieval horror fantasy set during the time of the Plague and reading Hamnet which is about Shakespeare and how he and his wife dealt with their son’s death
i am reading jade war rn and the prose is so terrible, its actively taking me out of the story.
Gonna check out RF Kuang’s Katabasis
I hear that name a lot too
oh i have this on my list
Rf kuang
shes very popular
Did you read it
My coworker was talking about fourth wing
Do you do the “performative male” routine
I aoways forget smut readers are real people
What does that mean
Im reading brandon sandserson
That is as unperformative as it gets
You can get performative with Brandon Sanderson books too
“I read it but skipped the male povs”
Yes
brandon's readerbase is probably mostly women tbh
just given how heavily reading skews towards women
Meh
I wonder what the graph is on fantasy
But that obviously becomes woman heavy if its romantasy/smut and stuff
More men read it (get it? Sanderson is Mormon haha, get it?)
Ur pushing it
I’m not ashamed
good one pal
i am interested too
perhaps
One Battle After Another || https://fixvx.com/alejandroxpadi/status/1974567251778167008?s=46 ||
Dude’s about to have the most stressful day of his life
QRT: ryanhasbadtaste
https://t.co/IAJ5X4otUd
@modern lichen man Kinokuniya has so many great stuff
Crazy
Goated movie
one of the last chapters hell ever release probably
I have hope
I was a big believer for a while, started losing faith around 2016, and have had less and less faith since then
poppy war 80% || oof not pulling any punches on Japanese ww2 atrocity inspiration ||
What are you doing with the Wall Street journal
swamp thing
moores swamp thing is so insane man
Its crazy we lived in a world once where moore would do runs on characters like swamp thing or fill in for a comic like vigilante
Stormlight Archive, TWOK - need help finding very specific fan art of ||the warcamps. i can't seem to find it through a simple google search. it was mildly eye level in perspective (not a worm's eye view or bird's eye view), with a somewhat prominent white building in the fan art, i think. maybe some mild purple in the overall color scheme too. been a while since I've seen it so it's super vague in my mind and I may even be describing it wrong. ||
Twok
sadly no. that's one I also saw via google.
it has a greater sense of dynamic lighting, almost as if in a film
or rather greater contrast in its lighting.
and don't worry too much if you can't find it, my memory could also be describing it wrong
@copper phoenix
AH NEVERMIND. I finally found it.
TWOK - yeah i probably could've described it better/more accurately lol
Where's purple!!!
watching wandavision this week
This is sick
@south hatch dexter ending || holy shit bruh i am rewatching dexter and this shit is intense bruh||
Hmmm never even watched ta
*ts
Is it any good
dexter ending || i can guarantee you the first 4 seasons are excellent, i think it falls off a bit after that ||
Dexter || The John lithgow season is pretty peak ||
agreed but you gotta spoiler tag this i think
I see so just like Prison Break huh
ngl on a second thought i am not sure if you gotta spoiler tag, but i would just in case
i think its as good as prison break, if not better imo
word, let me know if you get to it, curious to see how you like it
good show!!
Will tag u for it
Hopefully
Maybe i should start pm s2 en before some accident spoilers that will he unavoidable once the finale airs
Hello
What is that top 5 of yours 😭
Aot in between allat is crazy
I feel pb got downgraded after s2 itself not only the ending
nothing wrong with my top 5. aot is a masterpiece.
sup
Good wbu?
mutlitasking watching anime and coding lol
Same bruhh eating dinner and coding
||There's bits of purple in the bottom half of the mountains in the background. I overstated how much purple there actually was though, I'll admit. My memory was quite fuzzy.||
family guy recent seasons idk
true
The Bloody Lady (1980) ||Film was more of a dark spin on Disney fairy tales INSPIRED by the legend of Elizabeth Bathory than anything to do with the real life woman but I liked this.
Felt oddly restrained though, like once it starts to fully dip into the horror that's been slowly bubbling under the surface we shift perspectives AWAY from Bathory herself and the heights of her insanity are mostly left implied. Kinda walked away wanting more from the final act, because while I appreciate the poetic ending it was more horror tinged than straight up horror. Almost like it was still hoping to be approachable for children even though it's extremely NSFW
The fuckin Adventure Time ass artstyle used for something ""DARK AND TWISTED"" feels decades ahead of its time if I didn't know better I'd have assumed from the screenshots it was posted to Newgrounds||
@sturdy kayak what did you think of the new smiling friends
It's out?
Yeah I watched it on Twitter
It's time
The animation was really really good!
The Elvira movie is crap
I'm digging it
Flipped a coin for it vs the evil dead 1 tho and I can tell I made a bad call
Have been considering reading sun eater but apparently the author cited jordan peterson as one of his influences
hey i mean if the book is good, the book is good. dont let jordan peterson prevent you from reading a good story
i havent read it though so i cant speak to whether or not its good, but im sure there are plenty of good books written by people or people who were influenced by those who have ideas you strongly disagree with
I have just heard so many things which raise major red flags for me
About the series
And given how long the series is, i just dont really want to waste my time to end up disliking it
thats fine i just dont think dislike of the author as a person or their influences is a good reason. Youre not really making any difference. It might be conforting and empowering to think you can strike a blow against those you disagree with by withholding your 10 dollars but lets be real its making no difference
Why not just read book one
What does this have to do with him finding qualms in the morality of the story
nothing. But he didnt mention the morality of the story, he mentioned the author's influences
He’s saying there’s things about the story that raised red flags for him
he hasnt read the story how could he have qualms with its morality
What
You dont have to read something to know that that piece of art raises some flags that personally don’t appeal to you or spell wrong
That’s the process of screening what appeals or not to you
i never said you do you have to read it
i just said a story can still be good even if its written by people you dislike or people who were influenced by people you dislike
Yeah it can be good or bad to the perceived recipient of that piece of art, but the fact that the author is influenced by a piece of shit like Jordan Peterson does send off some signals
Eh i dont reslly care enough to do that. I would pirate it anyways. Its moreso me not wanting to waste my time than anything. Its a 7 book series and would likely take me months to finish. I dont want to end up regret reading it. Plus some minor sun eater spoilers i have heard || they literally have a statue of jordan peterson in the empire from where the protagonist is. In addition apparently the author became a practicing christian during writing the series and the far right regime he was earlier criticizing, he than proceeds to show isnt that bad and actually better than the commie empire. It just sounds really ridiculous at that point tbh ||
It just killed my interest is all
hey man you do you i was just saying my opinion that i dont think the morality of the author or their influences has much to do with the quality of a book
very moral people write very shit books and vice versa
Terry Goodkind begs to differ
Quality is subjective.
A piece of shit and a bad writer
yes that can happen too. Im saying these things are uncorrelated
being a good person doesnt make you a better writer
Ayn Rand - piece of shit and a shit writer
I dont think i said the author was a bad person. I just think the ideologies hes parroting in the series, make it unappealing to me
you do understand that spouting off individual examples of bad people who were bad writers has nothing to do with my point right?
Idk what ayn rand did but i read anthem in school and that shit was boring asf
Holy snooze fest
She wrote about objectivism
She founded objectivism
It's a bit interesting point Mirio in the book
Sun eater general || MC of the past from the current narration does give off the pseudo intellectual stuff of the likes of Peterson's grift, but its supposed to be the flawed, young one whose actions are termed as mistakes or failures or shortcomings immediately in the narration (as the narration style is kinda like present MC giving insights to his Past while narrating his past)
So if he's indeed a Peterson fan, then its very surprising lol ||
A failed philosophy hinging on self interest
I have friends who are caught up and say he leans more into that if anything as the series goes on.
Then it's a bummer
But idk i havent read it and probably wont
What other genres of fiction do you all enjoy
I am only 3 books in and it seemed to go in opposite direction lol
Hey man dont let me ruin your enjoyement i might be wrong and my friends might have misinterpreted the series
None I only consume fantasy slop
It shows
Btw i started clash of kings despite what i said

What did you say
Sab has also read suneater so let's ask what he thinks of it
I wouldnt continue asoaif for a while
Well that’s nice
id only do asoiaf if youre ok with a partial story, have no exepectation of twow
@spiral quest
Prob my least favorite book in the series but still good
it is ok as a partial story, pretty good even
Idk
I went to the library picked up a classic to read between asoaif books, read a few pages, put it back and picked my fantasy slop back up
Storm of Swords might be the best entry in the series
Yea i liked it alot
probably yeah storm and dance are both pretty good. storm better on the first go, dance better on reread
Dance is too unwieldy to me, I felt the narrative losing a bit of control
I kinda get that tbh
It juggles many things and not all pan out and contributes to the sum total that I would consider satisfactory
I like affc a lot, probably number 3 for me
i think the east stuff being difficult to grasp is supposed to mirror the difficulty faced by the relevant characters
Dance || the east stuff intrigues me the most ||
I don’t think I’ll ever understand the hate on this book i see
I dont mind at all tbh.
Dance|| I think the windblown stuff, I’m blanking on his name but the dude that gets capped by a dragon, quentyn i rembered it while writing, he did not need that many chapters||
More of a small thing tho
Reading contemporary fantasy lowkey fried my brain.
You should read “The Bright Sword”
Arthurian epic fantasy
Best book I read this year
i know a lot of people hate that idea but i love that || quentyn thread so much. The first line is "The adventure stank", its so perfect. His quest was so dumb all along and he thought because hes the main character in his own mind its all guaranteed to work out ||
I will add it to the list 🫡
I also enjoyed the First Law trilogy
