Finished Minecraft movie. ||I can recognize that there's definitely love and care for the source material and its community put into this movie. I could get on board with this being unserious fun. The problem is that the general comedy (especially the comedy coming from Jack Black) sucked that it became unbearably cringe for me. There were a few funny moments like Steve offering help to the villain in the climax with the villain betraying in a goofy way, but I did not enjoy this overall.||

||At the least, there's a semblance of a decent story here for a video game movie, with the emphasis on the conflict of creativity with the cast. It's not executed great and it's predictable as hell, but at least it's cohesive and tries to say something meaningful with the character developments that happen, unlike the Mario movie. ||

The children in my theater room seemed to enjoy it a lot. They laughed and screamed frequently throughout. Good for them, but not me. 😔

Making Apes wasn't quite what I expected but I really liked it

Rare to see a documentary on genre fiction special effects artists unless it's utterly massive like Universal Horror, Godzilla or Star Wars or something. It's such an unsung and deeply important part of cinema history and some of the most interesting work that goes into these films, kinda wish they got way deeper into the intricacies of the process but I get that I'm more wired into this than most people

It's funny how they try to acknowledge the later sequels but then completely blitz through em cuz there's no real interesting stories to tell from their productions but I appreciate that they gave em a nod at least lmao
