Finished watching Dallas Buyer's Club ||I completely did not expect the movie to end in a hopeful way when the story started the protagonist as a shitty drug-invested person that looking like he was at his down-spiral. This turned out to actually be a story of how a shitty man slowly changed his ways and fought against the health administration to provide helpful drugs to AIDS patients that needed it. The execution of its insane premise works and the actor performances were great, but I just feel morally conflicted and discomfort towards a terrible person like Ron Woodroof having an redemption arc to rate it higher than 2 and a half stars, even knowing that it's based on a true story. I found most of Ron's actions throughout the film too reprehensible to find his good deeds worthy of redemption. ||

dallas buyer's club ||the film strips away much of the ugly bits of the epidemic and frames it more as like... a hollywood movie. there's a trend with these. in order to do this it made it a redemption story of a wholesome straight dude ||

Arcane S2 ending ||yeah I guess my tldr thoughts on it are that the plot went in a very generic and one note direction that kinda made the setting less interesting, and Vi and Caitlyn treating their respective spirals into being war criminals as a rocky patch in their happy relationship was kinda whatever I was bored with those characters pretty early on

But the resolutions with Mel, Viktor and Jayce, and Ekkos arc throughout the season were all perfect. The show got so stylistically ambitious that it felt like it was on the verge of letting the story slip through its fingers in the process, and if a magical doomsday scenario and big evil army were a necessary playground to bring those characters to their endings then I think it was worth it. 8/10, interested in what this studio makes without Riot Games||

Finished Donnie Darko ||This film is so meticulously directed and written in a way that completely appeals to me. I loved the cheesy & contemplative discussions characters have with one another about the purpose of life & staying true to yourself even in amidst of the shitty things life throws at people. These conversations really helped me get to know and empathize with each character Donnie talks to. And yeah, Donnie's arc is the most interesting with his internal conflict with Frank. The premise of the limited tangent universe Donnie lives in pushes his character in interesting ways that makes him get out of isolation. He makes the most out of his remaining life by talking to those around him and positively changing them for the better. It's through those actions that he comes to figure out time travel and stop the deathly fates of the people he cares for by sacrificing himself and letting the jet engine take his life. It's a sad ending, yet powerful storytelling. This movie has everything I love about stories comprised in a 2 hour movie.||

Words of Radiance, chapter 11 ||Jasnah....she's really dead, isn't she? I thought it might have been Brandon messing with the reader as Shallan came to shore, but alas no. I get that she's the wise mentor trope, but holy shit I loved her interactions with Shallan and it felt like they weren't done, that they would make a great duo together. Seeing the wise mentor die so pathetically at seas hurts really bad. I might not forgive Brandon for this one. When I was reading Navani's paragraphs at the beginning of each chapter since the ship sank I kept thinking "maybe this is just there to mislead me and she'll show up later," but now I'm finally accepting that maybe this is the price Jasnah must pay for when she murdered the men in that alleyway last book. I guess now Shallan has to fend for herself and finish what Jasnah started. Whatever. Fuck you, Brandon. Also, funny side note: it's pretty hilarious how Brandon Sanderson, a devout Mormon, took the only named atheist character and killed them.||

The most middle of the road film in this series

For all the good and bad it implies

Kaiju movie 101. But unlike Vs. Megalon where it feels wafer thin and creatively bankrupt here all the gears are actually turning and doing their job. It does it's job, does it memorably, doesn't rise above franchise slop for toddlers but at least its confident in what it is

This feels like a great "flipping through cable and catching the film halfway into its air time" film lmao

Gonna take a shower and make some tea and wrap up the Showa era of this franchise

Terror of Mecha Godzilla however was a hell of a way to send off the era, one of my favorites in the series

I understand how people who like the the WrestleMania insanity of Fukuda's works found this one boring and played out but for me his stuff always feels like superhero media. The Kaiju might as well be literal guys in suits in the film itself, the scale is never there. That's partly because his human stories are so throwaway but also because the miniature sets are empty battle arenas and the monsters talk and ninja kick each other. It's silly and fun, but I don't think it sells what makes these characters cool and terrifying

Honda does. He elevates everything from that last movie in this one with one of the best humanistic stories in the series and a lot of well placed call backs that make this feel like something of a full circle. This feels like an earth shattering battle, even with the monster designs and superpowers reeled back so hard from the last couple of films

Return of Godzilla ||doesn't rise to the heights of the Original or Minus One but it's a really good reintroduction to the series.

A lot to like about this one, you can really feel the difference ten years makes in presentation and expectations, but it's juggling being a lot of different things at once and while they're all done very effectively that lack of focus hurts it just a bit compared to the other Godzilla 101 films.

Wish it could lean more into his disempowerment, being dwarfed by the new skyscrapers and nuclear energy being a known quantity. Or how the attacks being used as a stage for the cold war and Japan is facing diplomatic problems from international pressures regarding nuclear testing. If either of those things were pushed just a bit more into the forefront this would be a 4.5 star film.||

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring review

||Wow. What an experience again. I watched this movie years ago and showed it to my gf for the first time and we were both blown away. The way this film is structured makes it easy for a non-fan to understand the lore and details of Middle-earth. Everything in this movie is damn near perfect, from the acting, to the cinematography, to the pacing. Aragorn, Frodo and Boromir were easily the most interesting characters to me. Frodo having to bear the weight of responsibility on his tiny shoulders, Aragorn having to struggle being a King, and Boromir feeling corrupted by the Ring despite his best intentions. Sensational film and I haven't seen the next two, so I'm incredibly excited.||

Rating: EXCEPTIONAL-PERFECT/10 (9.5)

I took the time to watch Schindler's List the other day and watched it again today. I wanted to try that thing where one watches a movie twice thing to appreciate a work more. ||The noir-esque cinematography and directing made me feel like I was watching real footage of the cruel event that happened in WWII. Schindler's arc was pretty interesting. Although he selfishly took pleasure in the wealthy lifestyle he gained through the friendly relationships with the evil red group, slowly and naturally throughout the story, he becomes more caring about the workers in the factory and does what he can to protect them. ||

||He's a bit of a captivating character that I wanted to cheer on for throughout. I felt for his ongoing struggles and really felt for him twice in the last scenes where he said he wished he rescued more people. That last scene where the family gave their condolences on Schindler's grave is one that will be ingrained my brain forever. This movie was good. 🫰 ||

Finished Forrest Gump ||The story maintained my interest throughout, not with the amount of big feats the protagonist made, but the influences and friendships he made throughout his life that made him a positive influence. He's pretty straight-forward as a character and carries the legacy of his friends whom were left behind that makes him likable. The only thing I'm mixed on is Jenny's arc. She was on a clear downward spiral that not even Forrest could fix, and it only took her so many witnessing of Forrest's appearing in her life to get herself back to being mentally well and raising a kid. It felt like there was a big plot hole missing, but even then, I did feel sad towards Forrest losing a loved one. It's fine movie overall.||

I was also peeking into Gump analyses videos on my search in YouTube, and I'm surprised to see how controversial the movie is. Might watch those videos in full to see what the fuss is.

Shallan's chapter while using Lightweaving to meet with the underground Ghostbloods coupled with her intentionally staying with another Highprince intead of Dalinar has me very excited for where her chapters are going. The only thing I'm disappointed in was the reaction to Jasnah's death; in the context of the story, it makes sense that it wouldn't land as emotionally hard since everyone knew something had happened to the ship and braced themselves for the worse. Still, I'm hoping we get to see more of Navani's personal struggle in dealing with her daughter's death.||

Words of Radiance Chapter 51 ||I just read the chapter last night where Shallan and Adolin go on their first "date" to learn about each other and she prods him about pooping on the battlefiedl (lmaoooooo). However, what I'm most curious about is if it's going to go south whether through Adolin's death, his ability to stare at other woman consistently, or something else that will pull them apart. I say that because I got strong "will they/won't they romcom energy" from Kaladin and Shallan's first two encounters (the boot exchange and their heated confrontation when she first shows up to talk with Dalinar for the first time). Plus they both have the power of the Radiants. ||
