He is gorgeous
Fr
|| still a youngster! Just wait ||
thats cute
Watched first episode of The Continental and it wasn't as good as I had hoped but better than what the critics are saying. The action is quite good, plot is straightforward, newer interesting characters are introduced along with young Winston and Charon. The show does lag a bit at the middle.
Overall, enjoyed watching the show.
https://x.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1705701489807597623?s=20 and thank God for that choice
‘ONE PIECE’ director Marc Jobst was “very much against” using The Volume to film the live-action series.
“He really felt like it was important for the actors to be in a real environment.”

wtf is the volume
Apparently a room filled with LED screens where they film, some sort of fancy green screen but it’s a room instead
They use it for stars wars
the reason why star wars shows look bad
🚶♂️ 🚶♂️ 🚶♂️ 🚶♂️
wb jesus
@scenic terrace have you seen cruel intentions
Nope
Volumes a really cool piece of tech but almost no one can use it correctly
Steven spielberg is like one of 2 people who can use it right
@fickle ember @modern lichen do either of you know what the very last image is referencing with the guy with the bandana mask
the hairstyle is reminding me of something but I can't think of the damn name
Archies maybe?
Not really tho
Idk
nah not archie
i cant recall tbh
atla
Bro wants them to film in space
previous star wars films were not filmed in space either lmfao
but andor and ahsoka look genuinely incredible
Yes they do
I never knew I'd be so excited for a mandoverse show
But Dave is pulling all stops with this show

GOAT
does scp count as "western series"?
i have been a fan since 2014. since the hayday of creepypasta. and i think i can confidently say that it all fell of 3 years ago.
the release of the 096 shortfilm marked the biggest turning point in the entire thing
no bigger project has been done and i doubt anything bigger will ever be done
Ooh nice but I think the video itself goes into #promote-yourself
We could talk more SCP tho
That's fine
I assumed it was your own video but if it was something you're sharing as an illustration of SCP then go for it
the absolute hubris that would be haha. "i made this short film, with movie production quality, 3 years ago and i think nothing will ever even come close to it, everything is worse"
#SCP #Scifi #Horror

At first Daniels uses the interview to critique and insult the powerful and mysterious 0-5 Council. However, as Arlia shares the horrif...

8mile ||was watching 8mile for the first time and I didn't expect a sex scene, let alone one that long lol||
Of course my roommate came home right as that scene started lmfao
Funny how people always show up at the worst scene in a movie/show
As soon as I heard the keys and the door open I said "of course"
I have finished campaign two of critical role, it was a wonderful journey
we wonnnn
depends what kind of deal the writers got
and now the actors gotta get a good deal too
oh yeah still gotta wait on actors
They agreed on all fronts it seems like
Gotta shill Joe Kubert more
Season 2 is a go!!
The Flash #142
Speaking of the flash, been reading his new 52 run. It's pretty fun
Art is amazing for first half of 52

Nice
The new voices for ‘RICK & MORTY’ have been revealed.

I dont know if thats praise for the new VA's or shows how fucking one note Roilands VA range was that its this easy to replace him
The latter
||Bro keeps doing this 😭 || Asterix and Cleopatra
Asterix and Cleopatra

I haven't been paying attention
spoiler tags for asterbix and obelix is the most glorious thing ive ever seen
Do we know if Rick and morty share the same new va
Or we got a new Rick and a new morty va
Kill me
Maybe writers should strike more
Nah man leave it as it is
Oh no

Asterix comics were the best
oh shit they replaced VAs? what happened?

Lol
Dr who s3 ep9 || “We wanted to live forever. So the Doctor made sure that we did” what an ending to an incredible 2 parter, might be my favourite in the series || @brave orbit
I’m excited
I’ve watched 8 eps today so far
Might finish the whole season before i go to bed
The last 3 episodes are a 3 parter
My condolences

I fucking love how everyone knows he is writing on S14 and he just has to lie about it

https://twitter.com/ToriesAreNazis/status/1706649655176540337 bro is living in 2020
@BBCNewsnight Hope so. Only thing that would get me back watching it after the car crash of Chibnall’s era.
Tonight 🫡
scorseses mean streets. pretty good
are you going through his filmography
somewhat, wanna watch all of them eventually but i guess im trying to do a bit of an abridged version prior to killers of the flower moon
rewatched taxi driver last night
yea its pretty perfect
i rewatched half of jaws today before being interrupted by my mom but perfect blockbuster
saw your iruvar review, really wanna watch that sometime
super interested in him
mani ratnam is perhaps the greatest cinematic image maker in modern indian cinema
i rewatched another one of his movies, which is also great that i'll be writing a review for soon as well
that and mayabazar i have huge reviews formenting in my brain
🫡
i watched some cool shit lately, feeling good about being back in the movie mood
thats whats up
strays recently is the only bad movie
which one?
kannathil muttamithal
its a story set during the sri lankan civil war
havent logged it on letterboxd yet because i am still keeping it in mind
dope
yeah, i really liked your tree of life review
btw
i still havent watched a hidden life
probably will do that sometime this week
it was just kind of a thoughts-dump, but that film is very important to me
A hidden life is great too
lmk what you think
i will, i think you'll see my detailed thoughts soon on letterboxd
so far i'm really liking the platform
very great for discovering new films
@mild seal DID SEE IT?
i watched talk to me and bottoms back to back day before
shit was a tonal whiplash if any
No my internet is still fucked up and I can't stream anything
DANGIT
i really liked both talk to me and bottoms but goddamn, both movies are fucking crazy
@sage sleet i watched blue beetle btw, very enjoyable
gonna see stop making sense tonight
ooh been hearing great things about it
yea only heard high praise of the new release
never seen one of his surprisinly
silence of the lambs?
i'm surprised
you'll like it
its one of the best films ever made in my humble opinion
philadelphia, the manchurian candidate
fs need to get into him
one of my friends who frequently has great opinions fav director
heard all his concert films are more than just that
so good
true cinema
the mecca sequence made me tear up
denzel's best
iruvar and malcolm x would make a great double feature now that i think about it
period epics telling stories of politics and the rise of men
though iruvar is fictional, its based on real people and events
just making a note about movies i need to write a detailed review for:
- kannathil muthamittal
- malcolm x
- mayabazar
- jaws
||glad to hear that man. was a very fun time and the fights were crisp af. was a lot more family/kid esque than i thought, but at the same time it would out the mf blue get dark lmao. villains most part didn't matter same as love interest but ion care tbh i just like how it really showed jaime and the scarab|| blue beetle
blue beetle ||the reyes family sold it, man, they were the emotional anchors||
blue beetle ||the dad's death got me, it was well set up for him and the way it was executed was really nice as well||
blue beetle ||also i must add, xolo as jaime was so fun as a protagonist, just so charming and witty||
I haven't finished the episode yet
Fantastic Four #24
I'll explain after
Oh I was at the end
Murders in the building s3ep9 ||I think Donna did poison Ben but I don't think she pushed him at the Arconia. I think there's 2 killers||
OMITB 3x09 ||HUZZAH! Just like I foretold
||
Murders in the building s3ep9 ||I still think it's Tobert lol||

Murders in the building s3ep9 ||or it's a family special and the son pushed him||
OMITB 3X09 ||honestly it mightve been even an accident, I'm so sad for those hankies tho. Nobody gave a shit and he made them by hand, with his besties, and everyone shat on them 😭😭😭😭||
Yeah
Murders in the building s3ep9 ||honestly seeing that side of Ben was really nice||
OMITB 3X09 ||very humanising. Up until now he was a dick head. I seldom forget that people thst are ass holes many times have emotions and are people as well, this escamotage (idk how to say it) always gets me ||

Oppenheimer was weird
I guess like a 7.5/10
Last hour saved it
The sex scenes were cringe
@white smelt what did you think
I haven’t watched it but I heard about those scenes and they sounded dumb lmao
Harsh will disagree of course
Oppenheimer ||
Bomb explodes
Callback to a quote he said while having sex||
||Damn...|| Amazing Spider-Man #10

How's spiderman so far?
Top tier along FF
Those were probably copypastas
based on my similar expectations, followed by the actual experience
Anyway, at least this eliminates 7.5 as a possible rating for Oppenheimer
From now on it can only be above or below that.
On a sidenote:
God, Saga is so good.

@brave orbit dr who s3 ep 11 || peak holy shit, that reveal
||
This series is disgusting so far and I’m ashamed I even agreed to write about it
The live action that is

Just realised apparently nobody’s ever mistaken western series for the the (live action one piece)
Probably because it’s barely a month old
#live-action if you wanna continue about the live action
@brave orbit finished season 3, now on to season 4
Shit
Dr who s3 finale || thought the end was pretty good, loved having jack around again, master was a great villain and I’m gonna miss Martha
||
|| though family of blood is still probably my favourite story in the season, might be my favourite from the whole show so far ||
Guess I dont know
||Oh shit, they are already here|| Doctor Who OG show Season 1 Serial 2
Ahead of their time
Might check out old dr who after i catch up to the current series
||Damn, are they that ugly inside? lol|| Doctor Who OG show Season 1 Serial 2
There are like 4 people inside of each dalek lol
hmmm not this time it feels
No I mean behind the scenes
||They took something out and the dude got inside to pretend to be one so they can escape|| Doctor Who OG show Season 1 Serial 2
Oh lollll
indian series arent western right
they are

Greatness

EXU Calamity ep 1 || Brennan sure as shit knows how to introduce a campaign and characters, good god ||
|| "Could you describe to me what your husband looked like in life"
||
|| The Dawnfather, thats fucking awesome ||
Amazing spiderman issue 60
EXU C ep 1 || "As the archmages always say, knowledge is power, so pack a punch with The People's Paper!"
A changeling newsreporter and advertiser broadcasted on a giant waterfall is sooooo Sam Riegel || @modern lichen

Amazing spiderman 63
Amazing spiderman 64 || they fucking killed her || @fickle ember
Spiderman 64 || they really want everyone to be team gwen dont they ||
Spiderman issue 65 || is this bob dylan theyre on about? I was wondering if they would ever mention him since he was so huge during the same time as early spiderman ||
Amazing spiderman 65 || love these blue pages we got ||
Duuuuude
Exu C is so doooope
I fucking love it
My god everyone is so amazing on it
Exu C e1 || Sam does the Loquatius Seelie voice so well I can literally see it as if it were an anime ||
Exu C e1 || the character art being so detailed also helps of course ||
Exu C e1 || also Marisha by the god she is gorgeous in her role as the snobby, elite, high society wizard ||
Exu C e1 || everyone is excellent but I feel these two were definitely the best to start off ||
Exu c/Cr in general (Sam's characters) || I really find it hard to wrap my head around how Sam can go from Shrek donkey face to scared little goblin girl to J Jonah Jameson at the drop of a hat ||
Exu C/CR || dude's range is ridiculous ||
To be fair that's true for the entire cast but I think it's the most noticeable with Sam because of how frequently he's swinging around
Barring Matt obviously
Thoughts on the goose?
The goose?
I can't tell if I enjoyed him because of how cheesy Ryan Gosling being cheesy was, or because he was genuinely good lol
No
Cringe take
The choreography was great and Ncuti was fucking hilarious
Margot robbie was my favourite part
He has like 4 lines and I literally couldn't take my eyes away off what he was doing
He is so fucking expressive
like it blew my mind
Margot Robbie had incredible acting but her scenes were bad, except 1 towards the end
Cook🔥 🔥
Let them know 🔥
They should make a ken movie fr
Micheal Cera was fun too, he had like 1-2 scene but it was memorable

carried so hard
They should do like a 30 minutes thing where he just does random stuff
Yeah michael cera was fun too
thatd be so much fun lmao
I dont really care about plot with Gosling, he could do whatever it'd be funny
Cuz that's what he did, he just did whatever and it was funny
But yeah else than that Barbie had 10/10 acting like I actually believed looking at a doll with emotions, but everything surrounding her was horrible
This movie was so sad 10/10 acting and directing, but writing 👎
I thought i was gonna be more interesting in the barbies but i didnt feel so intrigued by them as i thought id from the trailers and stuff, they werent that much fun sadly
theyre pretty boring to me
agreed
Yes exactly, they gave no character direction to anyone but Robbie and Gosling
Even Cera had a bit of an arc
But the rest of the characters were just... here
Even the humans
Anyway glad to meet someone on Discord I agree with
my irl friends have the same opinion too
Like they couldve done so much more
It writes itself, but somehow they butchered it by trying to please everyone
Barbie movie ||Yup, also im not really a fan of the whole message of the movie, I watched it with some friends that enjoyed some didnt, I wasnt satisfied with how they made it seem like the kens have "no value" On top of the real world men being massively mischaracterised. If they portaled into 1960 then it might have run more true. But in today’s society not all men are idiotic catcaller sexists||
Barbie movie ||Its silly. Couldve been so easily fixed by just saying “the men (representing women) have value too”||
did leave sorta a bad taste for me
|| Honestly I was fine with most of what they did with Ken because I almost felt targeted in lots of scenes
the Ken fight though was stupid (but funny) || Barbie movie
|| or you mean the LA beach scenes || Barbie movie
|| Yeah, honestly it's sad cuz I'm not even sure in what direction they wanted to go for the WHOLE movie. I rather them being anti-men then trying to satisfy everyone, you see what I mean ? Like it's a Barbie movie || Barbie movie
Barbie movie ||The ken fight was fun and amazing I had a ton of laughs and enjoyed it
I was just hoping for more of fun like that in the movie ig||
Yeah
|| What I mean is that the message behind the Ken fight was stupid, but the execution was great || Barbie movie
Barbie movie ||Its in a bit of a strange position for me tbh idk
yeah you definitely hit the nail with the message being stupid but executed great||
|| Yeah same that's the thing, idk wtf the movie was trying to tell me
that's why I ended up not liking the movie || Barbie movie
But yeah they should've made it a silly Barbie movie
But instead they made a serious but badly executed Barbie movie with a silly Ken
The movie started really well for example
Definitely i agree 100% if it wasnt for ryan gosling as ken i can confidently say i wouldnt have watched the movie
|| With her using toys as if it was reality
|| Barbie movie
Barbie movie ||It all started going downhill when they went to the irl world||
Yes
|| Except when Ken discovers what men do in the world
that was hilarious || Barbie movie
|| Mattel was useless, only there for the marketing push at the end || Barbie movie
Barbie movie ||It was all the "patriarchy" this and that shit for me lmao||
|| Yeah but it was like genuinely funny and I saw myself here and there
like the fact that Ken is genuinely happy to have some sort of attention
or the scene where they make a montage of everything and everyone "masculine" with the horses etc.
that was really funny || Barbie movie
|| it had no depth whatsoever but Gosling made it work by being even more stupid, which is great || Barbie movie
Barbie movie ||I get that the Barbie Land is kind of a reversed mirrored image of our world. Kens will progress the same way our society will. So as long as there are opportunities for women, there'll be for Kens in Barbie Land. But i just feel like there wasn't any need for this plot at all like cmon,II was trynna see a cool goofy adventure with kens and barbies here just fooling around (exploring the real world couldve been a funny goofy arc), not all this patriarchy shit man 😭 like the beach war and the kens fight||
Barbie movie ||Ryan gosling and the other kens just their whole dynamic and interaction was fun and hilarious
||
|| For me I was fine with the overall idea you described, until they made the Barbies go distract the Kens to turn them against each other... just why
|| Barbie movie
I really dont wanna think too deep about this movie but whatever man, they really dropped the ball on it imo. But cool for the people that enjoyed the movie
Had ryan gosling going in overtime to carry the movie 🥶
literally 😭
And again, I didn't know what direction they wanted to go throughout the movie, for me you either go a way or another, you can't just drop bunch of random messages with 0 subtility and expect me to buy into it lmao
Yeah I mean honestly I didn't know what to expect but they just wrote it weird
❗ ❗
def a weird movie, had fun moments tho
|| Remember the scene when Ken slid on the car
|| Barbie movie @little hull
|| Also, I bursted out of laughter when they showed John Cena, that scene is engraved in my memory || Barbie movie
|| https://youtu.be/r2ZYENxK1j8?si=3wWTO0pXfb9qGXh6 || Barbie movie
That was hilarious

Watch it, its pretty obvious anyway
Is it really really obvious?
Because it is called a plottwist for a reason
Uhh no but you'll get a feeling probably
Ok then
If the twist was the only thing good about the movie i'd say don't watch it
but its just a good movie so
Someone said that you get a hint in the beginning anyway
The twist of fight club doesn't really change the movie dw
Ok then,I will still watch it
Get filtered nubs
exandria unlimited calamity ep 1 || lowkey spoiled myself by reading up on Exandria lore, now recognizing the names Ghor Dranas and Vespin Chloras but it's only exciting me more for whats about to happen
Travis' character is cool as hell too || @modern lichen

I can compare my enjoyment
No you can't
???
What the hell you on about
exu c ep 1 || ggaahhhhh the whole detective scene of the disenchanted weapons and the once bound beings now being released because of the summoning circles
||
It's not this entertaining blockbuster where it's enjoyable to watch something, Barbie is more of a lighthearted enjoyable romp
Enjoyment doesn't just come from lightheartedness are you serious
Comparing those two films in terms of enjoyment is always gonna have Barbie up top because Barbie was meant to be enjoyable for a wide range of audiences irrespective of age
Dr who s4 ep 3 || loved the ood ep, happy they’re free now and hopefully it stays that way ||
Creed 1 is a good movie
That's all i wanna say
I'm not saying that, you moron, I'm just saying that Oppenheimer is a serious study of a person's life and his choices on a large scale and that is largely not meant to be something that is compared to a lighthearted satire of the patriarchal structures in place using Barbie dolls as a structure
if you mean enjoyment as a synonym for how much fun you had
It's like saying "wow my neighbor totoro was soooo much more enjoyable than grave of the fireflies", of course it is, even if the quality of the two movies is up for relative extrapolation
Oppenheimer was just a mess for the first two hours apart from a few scenes where the visuals were creative and interesting, and the dialogue really was not that interesting overall. I enjoyed the last hour way more because of how well it was edited and structured for that act, but again there wasn't much interesting in that
I value enjoyment not just on how much I laughed, harsh
that's a really bad opinion I must say fed
I'm just talking about the comparison
I enjoy shiki-jitsu more than barbie, is it now a fun movie about patriarchy now?
I don't give a shit about your own feelings on it, Fed, you can have whatever opinion on it that you want based on half baked critical skills that you seem to flaunt, I'm just talking about the futile task of comparing enjoyment as a metric of film criticism
People can enjoy trash and defend it, that is not my point
There are no half baked critical skills here, I just enjoy media on that level so of course I mention that
It was not targeted towards you either, it was a general statement, it was a bit because you made a point of comparing those two movies but I'm making a general statement about the stupidity involved in comparing the two films
There is no stupidity involved here, I just compared enjoyment
Your objective critical assessments matter not
My critical assessments are not objective
Seems like you want to push that
Considering comparisons about enjoyment aren't allowed when comparing movies
Is this another Fed moment? When did I push the "objective critical assessment" here, I'm just saying it's stupid to compare it in terms of enjoyment due to the difference in intention told with each of these stories
You don't need to be a filmbro to compare movies
You are implying I can't point at intentions for movies and thus am not capable to enjoy both on the same level
Did you not read what I just said? Comparing enjoyment between two polar opposite intentional experiences is an exercise in futility is what I said lmfao
I was not making it specifically about you, my guy lmao, I just think you're a specific extreme example as such but it was a general statement
I disagree with your general statement as well considering I am part of it also - hence why it's general
Haven't seen a direct comparison based on enjoyment here on this server except for you tbh lol, everyone who has seen these two films either compares it as a matter of trolling or they don't do it at all because once again, it's an exercise in futility
Anywho, not my point
harsh i am not enjoying the sam riegel asmr in the break
im whispering from reeaally faarr awaayyy~
What standards and metrics you have on evaluation of media is not what I was talking about, its entirely irrelevant to the major point here, being that enjoyment as a subjective measure is not enough to compare and contrast movies because of the tone, intentionality and nature of the films made, you evaluate films based on the context of what those movies are intending with their messaging and how they're telling their stories
Lmao
I wanna start rewatching adventure time but i also wanna finish who first

Hazbin Hotel ||https://youtu.be/rYTVBSeTLUQ?si=msLoRYRmKHf1WQcn||
Soon, we'll all be in hell. No, seriously!! Season 1 of Hazbin Hotel, from Vivienne Medrano, is coming January 2024. And guess what, Season 2 is confirmed too!
Don’t really care much for this but its pretty cool
That a YouTube project has come this far
Nobody watching castlevaina 🥺
dude are they really putting it on prime? that's awesome

@modern lichen should I watch Love Exposure?
The Japanese movie?
It's weird as fuck but I liked it
Go for it
The director unfortunately is a weirdo
Have to watch Rear Window for film class
Lets hope its good
never watched a Hitchcock movie

I have to take notes while watching it though
It's a film worth studying
Just for the way it was shot and edited
You'll have fun too
you could always watch it twice, first time for yourself and the second time you can take notes
since I really like cinematography I subconsciously started to notice film angles and when a cut happens
Hitchcock is the best
Rear Window was pretty good
A little slow imo
Rear Window ||Not the ending I thought it would be though. I was expecting there to be a subversion where he didn't kill his wife at all and i thought it would go to show like how the one girl mentioned in the beginning that no need to stare into other peoples lives when you could look at yourself or something to that effect. It was good though||

ASM 68 || what an insane shot ||
oh damn he co-created MJ
Amazing spiderman 69
Mj is weird because she was mentioned alot during the stan lee / ditko run but never revealed till after ditko left
he could of had a design for her but its never been revealed and we only know romitas design
Amazing spiderman || Ditko drew her here but without a face, she appeared like this once or twice more in his run ||
Amazing spiderman 70 || shits about to get real ||

every other chapter of spiderman theres a panel that you see and cant help but think might be the one of the best pieces of spiderman art ever
estern?
like the Americas, Canada, the Caribbean’s, & the lost city of Atlantis
none of those locations are in the Estern part of the world
i thought he meant western
in that case, tuvalu, cambodia, & emerald city
One of them isn’t even real
What’s emerald city?
Been on a rocky watch for the first time
I’ve watched the first 3
I would rate it 2, 1, then 3

Amazing spiderman 79 || real good ending here, like this prowler alot ||
yk how after alabasta arv theres this season called tv original is it cannon to the story cus that season is boring
Watched the first 3 episodes of Gen V and loved it. The show feels like it is a part of the Boys universe. The characters are interesting, there's mystery element to the plot and just like the Boys, some really crazy stuff happens. It is also quite funny at times. I'm so glad that these show wasn't a downgrade or just a cheap spinoff.
i remember that!
it's not good, but there's some good stuff in it
Isn’t that just creed
The Wonderful Life of Henry Sugar was pretty wonderful, charming short
The Brave and the Bold #52
Did you finish New Frontier?
Yeah, long ago lol

I just watched The Whale
It actually made me cry
The Whale || it was a little difficult to watch almost because of how much I felt like I related to him. Food addiction is a real thing that I struggle with and it’s hard seeing someone struggling so much with it to the point that they don’t even want to seek help. Sorta helps put things into perspective and I do feel like hopefully it raises some awareness for some people on mental illness and the effect it has on people ||
||even though I know a lot of people will watch it and just judge the character for being obese and make awful comments on it, hopefully there are at least a few people who get some meaningful perspective on it though ||
wes anderson's new short films are really good
i have just one left to watch but i'm expecting that to be good too
Why does he hate it
Idk something i didnt agree with
@young compass why did you hate The Whale
I think he just took issue with the portrayal and message
#western-series message check from here
i have some thoughts about the whale but the bottom line is that i loved fraser's performance while having issues with the movie
fats
The whale ||Hmmm, I see. But the way I see it, the focus on him being “the disgusting fat guy” seems more like it stems from his own view of himself and the way people actually view people who struggle with obesity. People do judge us for being obese. They do say and think those things about them being disgusting. It’s hard not to feel that way about yourself when there are people who are constantly bombarding you with opinions like that and we get so insecure and self conscious that it makes it so much more difficult to stop using food for comfort||
finished the last of those new Wes Dahl/Wes Anderson shorts today
very interesting project/experiment
haven't seen it myself, but i'm glad if it touched on that topic at all tbh, even if some might find it misplaced or whatever
it's one of those forms of 'bigotry' for lack of a better word that generally is still acceptable among most people
which is shitty
Yeah
The whale ||It really hit home for me as someone who’s obese and struggles with food addiction||
Yea
i just have poison left
the rest of them were great
anderson has had a marvellous year so far
Poisons my favorite aside from Henry sugar
Yea
even the visual mise-en-scene is very sparse but the performance by rupert friend is just so fucking good
i didn't know he did a few short films, that's cool
yeah he adapted 4 roald dahl short stories
i like his stuff (who doesn't) so i'll probably give em a watch, especially if they're quick little things
they're all on netflix
Definitely a very interesting method of adaptation
his most experimental for sure
the whale ||I understand all of this, and I agree that it was important for the film to depict such matters, but it was more that the overtness of its messaging made that theme obvious to a ridiculous extent. I think it could have been more measured cause once again, rather than me asking for like... a less gross depiction or whatever, I'm asking for a more subtle one so I can take something like that away from the film that isn't jammed down my throat. ||
||Also, this isn't to deny your personal experience either as that's 100% your prerogative||
rewatched the french dispatch last night and adored it
I think this new Wes era is really for me
Sort of being self aware about his filmmaking and mimicking the structure of non-film mediums
Definitely the most experimental
Love Patel’s work in these ones
My favorites are still Grand Budapest and Fantastic Mr Fox but I can't really say this current era is not good, it's been wonderful
Official who twitter became a kate stan account lmao
It took me some time to acclimate to Asteroid City but the more I think of it the more I have things I'm fond of
Im on my way to see the new restoration of La Roue in the cinemas

for sure, ive only grown fonder as ive sat on it
You've been watching some great stuff in the cinemas
gotta take advantage of that nyc film scene
Go for it, dude
have a buncha tickets to stuff at NYFF
I rewatched Spielberg's Munich yesterday, exquisite movie
The man really is a master of the visual medium
Masterful use of zooms in this one
The Fabelmans is my favorite atm
The Fabelmans is so good
He's been on a roll post RP1, West Side Story was a revelation
And the Fabelmans is his most personal film
Excited to see what's next for my favorite American filmmaker
WSS is fucking amazing, bought the 4K recently
ive seen some RP1 revisionism, havent seen the film but i wanna give it an honest shot
Minority report my most anticipated rn tho, need to see soon
Man, some of the shots and sequences in the film, I don't like western musicals but I was consumed by it
do not fall for it
The whale ||I get where you’re coming from, but I guess the way I see it, most people who watch it won’t take away that same message if it isn’t jammed down your throat so to speak. So many people have their inherent bias towards obese people that if the reality of the effect it has on someone isn’t made so obvious like that, they can choose to ignore it. I think about the scene where Charlie is crying and yelling about how disgusting he thinks he is to Thomas and Thomas eventually admits he thinks he’s disgusting and it really didn’t feel far off from reality. I think and feel a lot of the exact same emotions Charlie feels and people do think we are disgusting. And people thinking they can “save” us whether it be in a spiritual sense or otherwise, just end up causing more damage and making it worse. ||
people will do revisionism for any movie if it gets them a popular tweet
Spielberg's collaboration with Kaminsky from Schindler's List to the current day is imo the most iconic relationship between a filmmaker and cinematographer barring perhaps Deakins and the Coens
Me
Also yeah, RP1 isn't good
any spielberg at least worth seeing tho
It's just the fault of the source material and the screenplay
Awful book and medicore movie
Visually it's still good
Awaiting your Schindler's list review now
i see a lot of schindlers list hate, most of it seems performative and just kind of annoys me lol
I checked the reviews on LB, some of the lower reviews are downright awful
The whale ||I think I also feel extremely sad for Liz as she did all she could to save her friend, but in the end nothing she could have done could cure the mental anguish that Charlie was in. It’s a sad sad reality for a lot of people and the general population chose to ignore it and form their own opinions and thoughts on what people should or should not do to “fix” us. When in reality, no one can save us except ourselves. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink…||
I've watched a lot of good cinema, maybe I should watch some bad movies to balance it out, Gotti rewatch soon just to make me wanna appreciate good films
it feels unfair lmao
i have a list of stuff i wanna watch for the halloween season
but also i am trying to finish every scorsese dicaprio and de niro collaboration before KOTFM
that's.. quite a journey
amazing though
what are you looking forward to in that list though
the most
wow great film
rewatched raging bull yesterday too and its amazing
yeah raging bull is a masterwork, those boxing scenes are so dynamic and destroy the reality of the movie in such cool ways
the aviator has the best visual style for a scorsese movie
the aviator had me looking up if my tv was broken
Aviator || with the blue grass ||
The whale ||sad thing is that people will watch it and still say that we are just a lazy piece of shit who needs to go to the gym and eat salads instead of burgers. Rather than acknowledging the fact that our struggle with food addiction stems from a deep rooted mental health issue that other people don’t experience or even understand||
The whale ||im not fat because I don’t know I need to exercise. I’m not fat because I don’t know I need to eat less food. I’m not fat because I don’t know I need to eat healthier foods. I was pleased with how overt they made it because people don’t fucking get it. Mental illness is real and the general population choose to ignore it 🙏🏻||
@feral kettle poison was pretty fucking good, anderson on top
dev patel is just so good
@modern lichen what's your letterboxd
you commented on my oppenheimer review
yeah, i forgot your letterboxd name

Creed 3 maybe, the other two are real solid
You didn’t like creed 3 ??
Amazing spiderman 83 || some kingpin backsstory finally and a great page with peter lifting the truck ||
not as much as the other two, though I'm not crazy about 2
I love it so much. I prefer the first one but it’s still in my top ten movies released this year but I should rewatch it soon and see if it sticks lol
Spiderman 84 || great kingpin panel here ||
Finished Castlevania Nocturne and I really liked it. The animation style is amazing, the story is interesting as well and the newer characters are great also. Fantastic show.
La Roue is monumental

Banshees ||this movie understood that animal deaths in movies always hit harder and hurt more than human deaths||
Banshees ||that was certainly amplified when Jenny's death was more magnified than Dominics, poor fucking kid man||
Such a great character
And actor
It's a banger when McDonagh, Gleeson and Farrell come together for a movie
In Bruges is still my favorite of their collaboration but Banshees is such a great tragedy of a movie
evans said it before, but man
the comedy in Banshees was so well worked in and tongue in cheek
and i usually dislike comedy in films that are like, not inherently comedies
its subtlety in Banshees was fantastic and one of the best bits of the film
Banshees ||one of the funniest bits is when Padraic is walking with Siobhan back to his house and shes talking about leaving (this is ad libbed i dont recall the exacts)
"I'm talking about leaving, Padraic! And all you do is ask about yourself!"
"I didn't ask about myself, Siobhan!....I asked who would do the cooking!||

I feel the opposite
About comedy in general or with Banshees?
In general
Usually movies that are inherently “comedies” are shit like the interview or hot tub Time Machine lol
So I find comedy in movies outside the scope of the genre of comedy are almost always better
I mean, those are extreme examples of inherent comedy, there are outright comedies out there that are pretty good at what they do
the cornetto trilogy by edgar wright for example
the GOAT
the longer i watch the more he gets hit but he never appears hurt
facisnating
Whos hyped for Killers of the flower moon?
Me
Ofc, harsh my man, our resident film connoisseur
Nope not yet, on netflix right?
yep!
Didn't see that
‼️
not out yet its at a festival
looks like mcqueen doing wiseman
in 20 days here
Amazing spiderman issue 90
Spiderman 91 || great JJ moment, supporting parker and robbie ||
the art and panelling is so good
Yeah every issue i see more and more of why romita is considered one of the best to ever do it
the definitive spiderman artist
@white smelt I found the perfect reddit post for you lmfao
he actually wrote a respectable superman story in an issue of hitman apparently
Amazing spiderman 99 || Romita no longer drawing spiderman, whats the point ||
Are you gonna stop
no
Im not stopping till spiderman turns dog shit for like, dozens of issues in a row
when that happens? who knows

Amazing spiderman issue 100 || Finally made it here ||
Amazing spiderman issue 101 || its morbin time ||
Spiderman issue 102 || Frankenstein vs Dracula ||
Futurama ||the dude goes back in time, kills his grandfather and then through actions you can deduce yourself became his own grandfather||

WATCH EM
Mixed feelings on the new Castlevania season after the first two episodes
I still quite like it but im getting more and more of a sense that the show isnt taking any criticisms about its approach to animation and dialogue, just writing em off as "its my style"
Seeing the issues carry over into a new series with a new cast is kinda exhausting even though im really interested in where it's going
Castlevania Nocturne ||Also this version of Annette is so annoying already||
When The Sopranos get good?
where u at?
sopranos is good from the very start
6th seasons
Never in my life time wasting as much as Sopranass
yeah, nevermind, this just feels like a shitpost
lmao no way they watched till season 6
Do you all have any recomendation of an actuall good American series which over 3 season?
American series so ass man, Wire supposedly on my next list, but after this Sopranos experience? #Nah
what makes you not like sopranos after 6 seasons
*The Wire
Is there any reason for why The Sopranos wasn't good or is it just "I don't like it"
This still feels to me like an elaborate shitpost, no fucking way this is happening right now
Crime series but action and thrill so so, Episodic Family situation but comedy so so.
Don't need to spend 6 x 13 hours of my life on this unfocus shit
Lmfaoooo
After Peaky and Narcos, this such a let down
Boston Legal
6 seasons of this supposedly compared to Godfather?? Gimme a break
Who compared it to the Godfather, no one does, you're basically strawmanning now lmao
Its a mob series? Of course its on the line you know.
Godfather, Breaking Bad, Peaky, Narcos, The Sopranos, The Wire, the talked about in the same category all the time
The Sopranos is a realistic look at the New Jersey mob scene, it's not heavy on action and thrills
The comedy comes from the daily life of seeing an Italian mobster and his family + his mob associates living life, they're inherently funny people
Yeah know, wish people refer this to telenovela more than those crime series i mention, because i never know drama and depression is the focus
What
Wasting my time to get excited and hype, only to feel sorry for my self and the characters, never in my life i experience shit like this than telenovela
If sitcoms like Friends i can laugh, i crime thriller i can get hype. But with the sopranos?
Forget about those 2, you'll never get it
*if crime
You have very rigid expectations of what a crime series is supposed to be
Bro i'm a One Piece fans.
I want either have fun or get hype, you should know the drill
Things can have serious themes and still have levity and comedy in them, if they strike the balance well it works perfectly
Most people here are one piece fans too, this is just a bad excuse lmao
One Piece also tackles serious themes in a meaningful way while having fun stuff in it
Yeah i know its not my cup of tea, and i wasting each season waiting for the hype moment to kick in and never happen.
You know, for example in Breaking Bad start at season 3 and so on
That's on you, the show never makes you expect it
I am Anime fan 😎
That's not the problem of the show, it's the viewer's perception of it, you went in with some bad expectations and without an open mind
Sopranos was never about the "hype" moments
It is a show about the decay of the mob in modern times through the eyes of a mob boss who has to deal with his own personal demons
Either you're not the target audience or you didn't understand the series at all
Yet, by the way you watched 6 seasons of it and still expected all the wrong things, I'm guessing you just didn't understand the intentions of the show and what the story actually was about
Don't let me start with that therapist thing, i blame it on David Chase.
If he himself never have that personal problem, he will never add that to the series
I understand it, ever since they spam the therapist session, but i can't accept it yet, because its 9.2 rating in IMDB and so i keep going, hoping something different happen.
Because mostly 9.0+ rating in IMDB never as mellow as The Sopranos

i was just about to start classic
