My theory on the eyes is similar to yours. I will describe it briefly. First of all, this is my list of people with the eyes:

Mihawk
A couple of the special Seakings Shirahoshi controls
Cavendish
BM
Pudding
Luffy
Zunesha

In my eyes, BM, Luffy, Pudding and Cavendish point towards the idea that multiple wills is the cause of the eyes. It is possible that this is the will of a devil, but it is not entirely clear.

The fact that Cavendish does not have a devil fruit and still has this dynamic makes it think it is not devil fruit related.

Pudding has been shown to have somewhat of a split personality with Sanji, where she will be like "ALL YOUR FRIENDS WILL DIE...Sanji-san". Whenever she goes into her grim state, her eyes are weird.

Cavendish turns into Hakuba when he sleeps and not only is he stronger, his overall fighting style is different. I think this is further indication that multiple wills are present rather than just some kinda power up

BM gets the crazy eyes when she goes into her berserk mode, which I see as her losing herself and becoming a different person. The O-lin dynamic also points to the idea that BM is fundamentally 2 different people: A evil berserker and a protective, kind person.

Zunesha is under the influence of someone's will in a way that we don't fully understand. The eyes of Zunesha could be caused by the will that is making Zunesha walk.

Seaking: I have no idea

Mihawk: I have no idea. Inheriting the will of the world's strongest swordsman, and becoming that? Ehhh, maybe.

Luffy: Super clear here. When the a human zoan of a specific person is awakened, it is basically letting that person's will exist with your own. Luffy is clearly influenced by Nika in his awakened state, but he is still Luffy. In my eyes, Luffy's awakening gives the best evidence of multiple wills being tied to the fruit, since he has never had those eyes until his awakening.

Theory: Chopper got a mythical zoan!

This is really short but he is the only zoan that does not have a model, every single zoan got a model, yes even kaku's who is a giraffe, for some reason it's the Ox-Ox Fruit Giraffe Model. And have you ever seen a zoan use more forms than the full transformation and the hybrid, at least I can't remember any case of that except chopper who got many forms, some people think that monster point is the awakening but it's not because when luffy got awakened, his power grew stronger, his rubber was more powerful and his op ability to make imagination reality grew much stronger. Monster point was one of his many or even unlimited forms who knows but his awakening will increase his zoan powers. I also predict that he will get his poweup soon and probably when a fellow straw hat is in danger and the doctor he is will help that straw hat, also note that he has not gotten a power up in a while.

I think the new color spread is a foreshadowing to the falling of onigashima. Chopper and usopp are falling, luffy is still smiling while pretty much falling as well (probably still in gear 5) and momos face sorta looks like hes panicked. could be foreshadowing to a last minute effort to stabilize onigashima after it starts to plummet

my thoughts on choppers awakening is that he is not awakened, but tapped into his power early with a rumble ball. He was not able to fully harness the power of monster point (awakening) when he uses it. His awakening will be using monster point without any rumble balls

Theory - 1047 Spoilers - Luffy will be knocked out again! Let me explain. Oda stated “Probably my audience will not be satisfied if the reason for defeating Kaidou is just because Luffy's punch is so strong.” With the end of 1047, Luffy ends off with saying that he’ll end this with… a big punch. Because we haven’t seen Awakening yet, I think Kaido will Awaken and beat Luffy into the Flower Capital. Here’s where I think it’ll get interesting, and I’m adding a bit of HeadCanon here. One of Wano’s major themes is “Redemption”; Momo’s redemption, the Scappards redemption, Kaido’s redemption etc. One redemption I would like to see is the people of Wano’s redemption for Oden. Oden gave his all to protect the people of Wano, and they really didn’t do anything to help him. Here we find a Knocked out Luffy in the fire Capital, and a Awakened Kaido demanding to finish Luffy. The people of Okobore Town, thankful of the Treasure Ship, defend Luffy from Kaido. This would parallel Luffy’s debt to Tama’s food. Even though they are “Slaves” to Kaido, they rebel. And this is where I think the Warrior of Liberation would be able to do some Liberating.

This would also fit Kaido’s line in 1047, of “It is Haki that’s needed to conquer the seas” (paraphrased), where Luffy uses friends or people. That’s my theory.

He has the “Fish” fruit, but it’s model is Azure Dragon. If this is an awakened state, than wouldn’t something like X-Drake’s Dragon Dragon fruit Model Allosaurus be awakened? From a Dragon to a Allosaurus, with the Fish Fish Fruit Model Azure Dragon goin from Fish to Dragon?

Do we know for a fact that the Kaido we see now is in his Awakened State? Yes, he is the Fish Fish Fruit, but it’s model is Azure Dragon, as in the Azure Dragon is the fish. Similar to the Inu Inu no Mi model Dachshund, Lasoo turns into a Dachshund. Not because he’s awakened, but because that’s the model of his fruit. Similar, Kaido’s original devil fruit state has no implication of being a fish, following the rest of the Zoan naming scheme. It’s possible that this dragon form is his awakened state, but Oda hasn’t made a big deal out of it like he did with Katakuri and Doffy which would be odd.

Also, we see in this chapter that the moment Kaido threw another Thunder Bagua, Luffy ‘caught/grabbed’ a piece of a lightning strike, which I’ve interpreted as something that originated from Kaido’s attack. Long story short: I don’t think the Sun God should be producing lightning attacks, his df is already plenty broken with both fire and rubber abilities

Imu sama is the devil queen. Even before the void century there was a war between the heavens and underworld and the victor were the devils and now ruling the earth. The people in the void century knew about the govt.'s truth and hence was destroyed completely. The devil fruits are the creation of the devil king/queen and the zoan fruits are living fruits that have spirits of the animals. When gods were defeated their souls/spirits were trapped in the devil fruits creating the god fruits like sun god:nika. I believe there are more god fruits like luffy's devil fruit and one of them is Senguko's.

The fact that the lightning looks “comedic” when he throws it in the beginning of the chapter makes me believe that he has used “toon force” to edit it. Tbf it’s unclear if he’s “rubberized” it or not, the only supporting arguments is 1. The way he’s “gripping/squeezing” the lightning and 2. The bottom right panel, which is inconclusive tbh. So it can go either way right now. Holding lightning is obv possible because of his rubber-trait; it’s not like he can rubberize fire/poison and hold it without getting hurt, his rubberizing doesn’t help. Imo, I’ll bet on him rubberizing the lightning to get a good hold on it, but we’ll see what happens

Well he probably just did something similar to gear 4th where he built up elastic force and propelled himself back, plus it kinda looked like he build up some heat as well, so it could have also been like a rocket.

I believe that Roger's blade (ace) had a will equal to a mythical zoan. And on top of that I belive that the more battles a sword has been through the stronger the blade gets. So, if Zoro keeps on fighting with enma, not only will his skills improve, his sword is require more haki and will produce "stronger attacks". And Roger probably had Ace from the day he set to sea, or somewhere early in his journey. So he trusted his blade and perhaps made it as strong as it is now. Which kind of links into zoro and in the end Wado (his sword) will equal a supreme grade sword.

Devil fruits and God fruits.
If we assume that Yami Yami no mi is a fruit simmilar to luffy's with a OP ZOAN hidden inside it, it could mean that God Fruit users can absorb as many devil fruits as they want, but they can never absorb another God fruit. So if this is true, this could be a fair reason on why BB can eat quake quake no mi.

What makes you think that haki was 'developed' at all? It seems to be an innate ability that every sentient creature in OP is capable of (except COC), hence its naming after willpower. Sure, people can practice with it, learn that there are several applications of it, etc. But i dont think somebody sat down and thought
'ok, there must be other things i can do to become a strong fighter than just physical strength, skills, experience and so on. I should develop a system that allows me to use my ambition as a weapon, not just my body.'

Ok, wow, apparently i touched a nerve there.... There are of course differences between the innate 'energy' of haki, and people using it in combat. And of course, different cultures in OP would have utilized that innate ability to different degrees, with wano being one example of a culture that has its usage as a fighting tool deeply ingrained. Of course, the techniques and applications for that would have been developed/discovered, we are not disagreeing on that. Your initial claim (that i responded to) was that

The thing is, Luffy's entire journey was because of him, Shanks was his inspiration, gave him the hat and a promise, Shanks was wary of BB and was concerned for Ace, even going to WB to tell him to come back, he came to Marineford to stop the war, when he could have easily let it continue.

Even in the first arc we easily got a good idea of his character. He's willing to let petty things go, risk an arm for a kid, take action seriously when someone he cares about is in danger.

Plus, he clearly did care for his captain cause Luffy said the same words roger did, and he was willing to pass on that will.

Sure, you're right, we haven't seen an immense amount of him, but making him evil and using Luffy for a secret corrupt plan or something, makes it come off as a huge disappointment, a big let down, and again, instead on an interesting twist, it's just a reveal for the sake of a reveal

I think a Luffy vs Shanks fight would be a good idea.

I personally think shanks won’t fight luffy, despite luffy saying he wants to beat all the emperors. Barto did take over one of shanks’ territories, however knowing it is now under the straw hat pirates control shanks will probably let it slide because it’s luffy and as we all know they both have absolutely zero negative vibes towards each other.

How I think the luffy and shanks meetup will play out is that in elbaf we get the straw hats arriving, exploring and doing what they need to do in the island. We then get more information on shanks and his character which leads to Blackbeard coming to elbaf for the last road poneglyph. Shanks being aware of this, he decides to challenge BB for it and that would lead to the red hair pirates vs the Blackbeard pirates.

Shanks would eventually lose because narratively it makes sense for Blackbeard to somehow win for him to progress and get to laugh tale before luffy. Luffy then finally meets shanks, but the shanks he meets is absolutely beaten up and on the brink of death. Luffy then tries to return the strawhat as promised but is told by shanks to keep it because luffy is worthy of becoming the pirate king after sensing his strong will, determination and strength.

This is from a comment on Sakazuki and his agenda going forward that I made. I have some theories regarding his original belief in Thorough Justice but with how little we know about it they all come up to headcanonish fanfiction. But my estimation is that the origins of his view of Thorough Justice is him showing mercy to a pirate at some point in his life and having it backfire hard. Therefore Sakazuki closes off any sense of his humanity towards those like pirates and seeks their total extermination from the world.

looking at the conflict Sakazuki seems to have with the 5 elders in the Dressrosa as well as his unbending sense of JUSTICE, I think we may instead see a different conflict erupt, one that pits the Marines against the Celestial Dragons(perhaps in a response to the 'Great Cleansing' they want to instigate upon the world). Leading this will either be Sakazuki if his sense of JUSTICE compels him to side against the Celestial Dragons for the first time in his life. It would also make sense that he fights with Kuzan or Issho regarding the choice the Marines must make.

I find it more narratively compelling in that sense for Sakazuki to be defeated by a fellow marine ideologically and see that the sense of JUSTICE that has guided him for so long may not be 100% correct in all situations. This fight would also be the best way to show off the Sakazuki flashback which would be great to see, especially all we know of his past is that he was born and raised in the North Blue( the most criminally infested part of the world) and has had a grim upbringing given his childhood illustration. It would make sense therefore that post final-war he would retire ,handing the fleet admiral position to a man like Fujitora or Kuzan. Post -retirement he'd probably end up like Sengoku, becoming Inspector General for the Marines. But instead of letting loose like Sengoku, Sakazuki would probably remain a hardass.```

Theory: Haki strength/willpower correlates to awakenings

This is gonna be scattershot as hell

So awakenings are said to be a rare stage of a devil fruit's power set. However something interesting is that aside from the Jailer Beasts, the characters that awaken either have the Will of D, COC, or both. Luffy, Law, Kidd, Katakuri, Doflamingo, all have either COC or will of D. Now why is it that the ones to awaken have one or both of those two things? Well because both D and COC means you have a strong will. Going off that it's fair to say that having a strong will correlates to your awakening. I'll get back to them but the Jailer Beasts are an outlier here, they're mindless with no will of their own and awakened. But that's the thing, no will of their own...no more like an animalistic will thanks to Sadie. The Jailer Beasts are awakened but don't have strong wills, meaning they're not like Luffy or Kidd or etc. They're not the baseline for zoan awakenings, cause Luffy. Luffy has a strong will at that, which means his awakened form he can control and therefore his own will triumphs over the will of his fruit, the gorusei said zoans have wills of their own, so therefore animals like cows and koalas wills would be more simple if the human's will loses out. Let’s say when Buggy first joined the Roger pirates, he was saved by Roger and owes him a huge favour.

I really loved how oda handled gear 5th and it's implications on Luffy's character by each chapter giving us a new bit of relevant info. about the new power.
First in chapter 1043 we get luffy starting to transform as zunesha says "Joy boy has returned" this raises many many questions as it comes out of the blue.
On chapter 1044 we get to see the forms effects on luffy's psyche, he seems to have forgotten all stakes and is just having fun, this is worrying and makes people ask, "is this really still luffy?".
In chapter 1045 we get a scene of luffy de-transforming temporarily, here he's tired and "remembers" all of what's at stake, as he transforms back we understand more how this form affects luffy. you could conclude that it makes luffy more joyful, but no more, the catch is that gear fifth makes luffy have so much fun, as indicated by his last line of the chapter that he forgets all the bad feelings such as fatigue and pressure from the stakes, the same for pain, as he repeats it again and again through the chapter when hit but the fun he feels makes him forget it shortly after, only when he goes back to base form do all the bad feelings and thoughts flood back in. The new warrior of liberation, starting by himself, will bring deliver people from anguish like WW said in chapter 1018 and bring smiles to faces like the gorosei said in chapter 1044. His reach to other people could be represented by the goofy expression they make when around him, like googly eyes and funny poses/expressions. This, in turn reaching the reader her/himself in making him/her laugh, or smile, and making them forget their anguish.

This is further developed on chapter 1046 when luffy replies to kaido's question about his identity, saying "I'm Monkey D. Luffy, the man who'll surpass you and become pirate king", kaido himself points out that he's relieved to hear luffy's usual sassiness, probably a way for oda to represent the reader and to make this point more obvious if someone didn't quite catch it.
finally in chapter 1047 kaido says that fruits aren't necessary to win or conquer, as "haki transcends all", this relieves the reades because it makes clear that luffy's fruit awakening isn't an automatic win button. In the final page of this chapter we also see luffy addressing momo, saying he believes in him, this is while fully transformed and again shows the reader that luffy is still luffy in gear fifth even if it was dubious or confusing at first. And I may still be missing some points.

Blackbeards top commanders. The ones that won the FFA were the ones recruited by blackbeard, so they are presumably some of the strongest people held there outside of the known warlords i named. We already know that the warlord system has been a thing for many decades. Therefore, what if vasco shot/devon/wolf/pizarro were all ex warlords that got their name erased and sent to impel down? This makes sense because all warlords up to this point have been sent there and clearly those people are the some of the strongest inmates.

Benefits of this theory: It would add a lot of uniqueness to blackbeards crew and overall to the entire concept of warlords. It would give a lot of credence to the theory that the thing that blackbeard is trying to "Reap" is the other warlords (although i dont support this theory, it would make sense/add up)

I have a theory that luffy will have a final gear --- gear 6. I think that the gear 6 will be named as sun wukong , a monkey god or a monkey king. So First at the chapter 1039 cover, there is a pink red monkey pointing a direction to Luffy , and if u look closely ,u can see that the pink red monkey have a crown on its head , which resemble itself as the monkey king , which same as Luffy , who want to become the priate king ,beside his full name is Monke . D . Luffy, the word Monke was same like monkey, which mean Luffy and the pink red monkey are same .
Aslo , according to the Sun WuKong Legend , Su Wukong was once a monkey king , he stormed the heaven and challenge to god , similar to One Piece , World Nobles , aslo known as the Clestrial Dragon(Heavenly dragon folks), they are known as the creator of the world , which simply means they are god .So if Luffy challenge the Celestrial Dragon or the Im , then it same as Sun wukong who challenge the god.

Why Yamato, Momo and Kiku will all be on the Thousand Sunny when it leaves Wano and how Kiku will be a permanent member and Yamato/Momo will be temporary members.

First I'll start with Momo. Momo is a controversial pick because most people think he'll stay as the Shogun of Wano. And I agree, he will be the Shogun of Wano, but he will leave Wano to fulfill his role that only he can do.

But Adam, who will rule Wano if he leaves?

Glad you asked. The person who will rule Wano in his stead will be Hitetsukiyaki, AKA Momo's grandpa and Oden's father. He is clearly qualified to rule as he did so previously. He is apart of the Kozuki line so the citizens will still love him.

But Adam, everyone has been working to make Momo Shogun and have rallied behind him specifically.

Glad you brought that up, kind discord member. Momo really, really, really wants to stay as Shogun, however, he will be faced with a similar dilemma as Oden. Oden turned his back on his struggling country to fulfill his purpose in helping Roger find Laughtale. Momo will parallel this by turning his back on a recovering country to fulfill his purpose, whatever that may be.

What purpose?

In Chapter 1014, Momo is reading Oden's logbook, and he states, "It would seem that I truly must not die!!" In Chapter 1041 (haha numbers), it's brought up again. Him having the ability to talk to Zunesha has Yamato state, "It's just as Oden anticipated!! You are the one who will guide the world to the Dawn." Momo replies, "AFter reading father's journal, I learn why it is so important I must not die."

But Adam, isn't he just talking about how he cannot die because he needs to be Shogun and open the borders?

No, that would not make any sense whatsoever. He was already placing this whole rebellion on the line for him to be Shogun anyway. What is so important that he needs to live and be Shogun that someone like Hiyori wouldn't be able to do? Hiyori could open the borders. The scabbards could open the borders. Literally any leader could open the borders. So what's so important that Momo needs to leave? Honestly I'm not quite sure, but it's pointed towards being a power he has that's related to being able to control Zunesha.

Another factor that points to Momo joining the crew is that he was aged up by Shinobu.

But Adam, Momo was aged up so that he could be more powerful.

Well, while technically true, Oda could have easily written him to be able to pull Onigashima while being small, and everyone would have accepted it anyway. Now what other roles has being an adult played? It allowed everyone to see Luffy as they flew through Onigashima, it brought up law's crew, and he got to have his moment with Kaido. Bringing up Law's crew was not that important, Luffy could have slingshotted himself back up and announced himself being back somehow, and having a moment with kaido would have probably been even cooler while he was small. The point is, being an adult for all of this isn't totally necessary in the grand scheme of things, but what it is necessary for is....

Joining the strawhats. I do not think Oda wanted anyone as "useless" as an 8 year old child to join at the current time. Momo in dragon form is pretty formidable. But there's something else...

Momo has also been practicing his sword swings, and this has currently not been resolved yet in the story. I've thought of a few ways for it to be resolved, one even bringing up his special role, so I will now lay them out.

1. He will cut off Kaido's head as an execution.

I don't find this likely, even ignoring Big Mom Kills Kaido theory. Unless Ame no habakiri has some amazing power to cut Kaido (Which to be fair, it could), I don't see Momo being able to do this. It's also too graphic and not really something I'd condone where a person with the mind of an 8 year old has to directly execute someone. If Kaido is getting executed, I imagine it would be with oil so he gets to suffer the same fate as his father, so this will not resolve the sword swinging plotline.

2. He will cut off Orochi's head as an execution.

As previously explained, someone with the mind of an 8 year old really shouldn't be carrying out executions himself. Also, I see Orochi being made to dance as retribution for his crimes, just as Oden did. So this will not resolve the sword plotline.

3. His special role being wano related.

Alright, this point involves his special role but it's so hyperspecific that I can't really support it hence why I support the next option. His role is to be a Kozuki, that can wield Ame no Habikiri, and can then swing his sword at something poneglyph related, like maybe a Poneglyph-seal placed on the road poneglyph or something, thus using his Kozuki bloodline poneglyph writing ability to unlock the road poneglyph, and it'll be revealed that Kaido technically never had real access to it this whole time. This shit sounds way too crazy but maybe????

4. Joining the strawhats.

The sword swings will be resolved by Momo taking up Ame no Habakiri and joining the strawhats. He will eventually fight someone and resolve his sword swinging. Pretty simple but effective.

TLDR: Momo has a special role that requires leaving Wano to fulfill, and will temporarily relieve his Shogun duties to do so just like Oden did.

Next, Yamato. Yamato is definitely touted as the one with the greatest chance of joining, and it's clear why. Yamato has outright stated she wants to set sail, but not only that. She specifically states to Kaido that she wants to set sail with Luffy. Well, where's the problem?

Yamato has not had many interactions with the strawhats in the raid, really only Luffy and a tiny bit Franky. Yamato has spent most of her time with Momo and has been nurturing his growth. Opinions have shifted that Yamato will stay with Momo in Wano. Her fruit is also known as the guardian deity of Wano, so people think she cannot leave.

I agree that she'll stay by Momo, but as previously stated, Momo will join the strawhats, so she will as well, joining as Momo's bodyguard. She is the guardian deity of Wano and is defending its leader.

But Adam, won't Wano be under attack and need protection from either the World Government or pirates?

Yes, that is certainly something to consider. But then you have to think that we will have a mink army, a samurai army, a gifter army, the scabbards, and Momo can order Zunesha to be on Standby to attack any major threats. She was able to completely take out a yonko commander level threat on her own. Wano will likely (imo) declare themselves as Luffy's territory, thus pirates will not cause trouble there just like how FMI was BM's territory for protection. I think we all agree the World Government will be reformed in some way by the end of the series, and after that reformation, they will no longer try to antagonize Wano. That's probably what, 1-2 months of in story time. The world will honestly be in too much chaos for someone to make a huge move against Wano.

After that, Yamato and Momo can both return to Wano.

Now lastly, Kiku, the most controversial nakama candidate. You all may be laughing at me, but this is a serious matter.

Well, we need short hair Nami back. That's the most important thing. Secondly, it's because Oda has mentioned who does the hair in not just one SBS, but 2 SBs, in both SBS 70, before he created Kiku, and SBS 99, after he created Kiku. Oda has foreshadowed Kiku as the stylist after she cut off Urashima's manbun thing. He has also hinted at Kiku being infatuated with Kinemon, but we learn later that he has his wife, Otsuru. To keep Kiku away from Kinemon and to save his marriage, Kiku has to leave, and what better place than to join the Strawhats?

But Adam, we need to have the 9 scabbards still exist.

Well you see, Kanjuro will be officially out of the scabbards and Kiku will leave as a scabbard representative to also bodyguard Momo, their leader. To keep 9 scabbards on Wano, we will have Izo and Shinobu fill out the rest of the scabbard count.

Now that I've fully proven that Momo, Yamato, and Kiku will join, time to talk about some parallels. Momo of course is paralleling Oden. He is fulfilling a role that only he can do as Oden once did. Yamato is playing the role of Neko/Inu. Mostly along for the ride. Kiku is playing the role of her brother, Izo. She will be the permament member while Momo/Yamato are temporary as Oden and Neko/Inu were.

I'd also like to mention a common argument as to why we need 3 new members. It's clear to the readers that Oda is going to have a blackbeard vs strawhat stand off some time in the future, and there needs to be an equal amount of members to properly do so. The straw hats currently have 10 members. The current strawhats + Momo + Yamato + Kiku = 13. Blackbeard has his 10 titanic captains and himself, so that's 11. Add in Stronger for 12. So who will be #13? Aokiji. Guardian deity of Wano, the ice wolf thing vs the ice pheasant, a worthy opponent for the daughter of Kaido, the person who could hold off Kaido. Chopper + momo vs Doc Q + Stronger as we all know Stronger is going to have some BS ultra powerful mythical, and Momo's will be needed to match it. Kiku can fight whoever is left.

TLDR: Kiku is joining permamently as the hair stylist. Momo/Yamato are joining temporarily.

And I say Momo will stay, like Vivi, he has a strong love and duty to his country and his people and I don't see him leaving them after finally getting back to them. If anything, Momo will stay behind, and join Luffy later at a "destined" time or place in the future, but he won't Join them.

Especially since we don't need Momo to mirror Oden, when we have Oden 2.0 to do that for us.

Kaido's Devil Fruit was just able to turn into a fish before it was awakened to the Azure Dragon form and Big Mom gave it to him in an attempt to add Kaido to his collection of all races.

When we first learned that Kaido's fruit is a Fish Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon, that immediately reminded me of Longmen (Dragon Gate) - which in Chinese mythology is located at the top of a waterfall. If a carp is able to climb the waterfall upstream and make that final leap, it is transformed into a mighty dragon. This fable is still used in contemporary China to encourage students or children to achieve success through hard work and perseverance. Kaido has done the hard work and climbed on top of the world and gained the moniker of World’s Strongest Creature. But what was Kaido before all of that, what is his journey? I argue that Kaido’s personal journey is the same as that of the carp in the Chinese tale and through hard work, he is literally and metaphorically transformed into a dragon.

But first we have to analyse Big Mom and look further into her and Kaido’s relationship. For the purposes of this text, I’m going to talk about Charlotte Linlin and Big Mom separately as they are different sides of the same person, Linlin being the traumatised, insecure and lonely child inside Big Mom. Linlin was abandoned as a child, and Mother Carmel took her into the Sheep’s House project. Carmel claimed that it’s a safe place for everyone who is lost and has nowhere else to go. Everyone will be equal and this is the mission gods have given to her. In truth Carmel was a child trafficker who was running the place for her entirely selfish, material needs, she was selling the children for profit. I believe that to this day Linlin thinks Carmel had sincere goals which Linlin adopted and continued her work after devouring her and the other kids: To build a land where all the people from different races can coexist in harmony and without discrimination, the perfect utopia. Her personal weaponized homies and attacks are even named after various deities of different religions: Prometheus, Zeus, Hera, Indra, Tenjin and Fulgora. Linlin believes she has gods on her side and she’s on a righteous mission.

Big Mom has built her monarchy on demonstrations and threats of violence. When she offers someone to join under her rule, you will either agree or get destroyed. It’s ultimately a one sided deal, where the other party is forever indebted to her for the “protection” she gives. Living in Whole Cake Island or belonging to Big Mom Pirates has a cost, and the citizens of WCI are taxed through bits of their lifespans extracted and given to her. Big Mom's mission is as selfish and twisted as Carmels. While Carmel got material gains from her child trafficking, In parallel Linlin is getting immaterial gains and is able to feed the needs of the broken child she is and getting a twisted sense of family and belonging. Deep inside of her, she acknowledges this herself as well. She’s afraid people around her would leave so she keeps reminding everyone how much everyone owes her.

In chapter 999 this is shown when Big Mom tries to inquire about the location of Wano’s Road Poneglyph and Kaido clearly shows that she doesn’t trust Big Mom. Big Mom knows Kaido doesn’t want to be around her. Big Mom tries to save the moment by claiming she thinks of Kaido as her “little brother''. But referring to the authority of an older sibling, she gives away that this relationship is intact only because of the debt.

We can affirm that Big Mom operates through unequal deals and contracts where she has more to gain than the other party. She forces other people to stay around. The needs of a traumatised, broken child are endless, they cannot be met, and she will never be satisfied. She’s doomed to chase the dragon for the rest of her life.

But let’s get back to Big Mom and Kaido:

During the times when Rocks’ crew was operating, it has been said that they didn’t get along, they were constantly on each other's throats, even killing each other. They were a menace of a crew, who were awful even towards each other

When Kaido joined Rocks’ crew as an apprentice, Big Mom spread gossip that he shouldn’t trust Rocks, but he could trust her. An adult would know that you shouldn’t trust a criminal in the first place, but especially don’t trust a criminal who at the first instance is trying to bid you on her own side. Kaido is 2/3 Oni, a rare breed of the giant race, and the perfect trophy to Big Mom’s personal collection. In addition Kaido was just a kid, who was out there for unknown reasons. It’s easy to mess with children. Don't board the ship that says Free Devil Fruits on its side kids.

We have been told that Big Mom gave the Devil Fruit to Kaido as a gift. The meeting of Kaido and Big Mom was something she had wished for, she saw the potential Kaido had in him and when Rocks Pirates were defeated and disbanded, she made her move. Kaido's Devil Fruit is the only known Zoan fruit of the Fish class. If it was just a Magikarp fruit, it would be completely useless in a world where the Devil Fruit users cannot swim, one that would actually be a setback to the user. We don’t know if Big Mom was aware of what the fruit is, if she knew of the awakening potential or not - it really doesn’t matter. By default Devil Fruits are powerful in the world of One Piece, and usually the positives outweigh the negatives for the user. By giving this fruit to Kaido, he would be in Big Mom’s debt, forever.

Both Kaido's character design and his Devil Fruit contain lots of references to Chinese mythology, and Beasts’ Pirates invasion to Wano is certainly a reference to Mongols invasion attempts of Japan in 1274-1281 A.D. The carp also has Japanese folk significance that is present in Kaido’s and Big Mom’s relationship. In Japan carps have been domesticated as koi and they are kept as pets entirely for decorative purposes, just like Big Mom is collecting people from all races to her personal collection. Kaido trusted Big Mom and because of that he was turned into a helpless koi, someone Big Mom thought she could force him to serve under her, but Kaido rejected this proposition and set out on his own. Big Mom likely allowed him to leave with a sense of superiority, believing Kaido would come back kneeling. He owed her after all. Clearly we know that she was wrong, but that even adds up to the debt she thinks she has over Kaido. What we know of Kaido’s backstory, Linlin would’ve been the first person to betray her, and from that point forward Kaido thought that he and only he should look out for himself. In chapter 1047 Kaido acknowledges that Haki transcends everything and implies he appreciates it more than Devil Fruit abilities. He didn’t care if he’s a carp or a dragon. Even being subjected to the usual Devil Fruit weaknesses, he started making a name for himself and started climbing to the top. King being his first recruit at Punk Hazard, he founded his own crew, gained the position of a Yonko and mastered his Haki, catching up to the hidden potential of the Devil Fruit. Against all the previous odds that were bet against him.

We don’t know what Vegapunk was trying to achieve with the experiments on Kaido. We do know that the scientific experiments of Punk Hazard were about recreating the Ancient Giants, the race Kaido partially belongs to. We can’t be sure if he was trying to replicate Kaido's devil fruit per sē or if he was trying to create an Oni Devil Fruit, they are only talking about his Lineage Factor. We don’t know why it was a failure in Vegapunk’s opinion and/or if something happened to the fruit during the decades while it was sitting on Punk Hazard before Momo ate it.

I would say that most likely yes, but it is possible some do not have awakenings.

I believe that awakening requires certain conditions to be met, and what those conditions are change based on the fruit and the devil power.

Some fruits anyone can awaken, others can only be awakened by someone that is "worthy".
