I'm still nowhere near where i want to be with my art and still need to improve, but I can say one thing for sure:
along with all these things, the main thing you need to remember is that you should enjoy what you're drawing
Be confident and realistic in your thoughts on it, and have fun doing it gosh dang it
this is also why regular breaks are a good idea because if you draw and draw with no breaks you start to lose your motivation and enjoyment for it, which just increases the length of your break and prevents you from progressing for a while

and yeah, free time helps a lot

sometimes forcing yourself to draw helps you get your motivation back if you're not feeling it, but again, slow and steady wins the race
i've been drawing seriously to improve for a little over a year now, and I still see barely any improvement myself
but people around me disagree, so I keep working at it :3
a real long-winded way of saying just have fun it's a hobby and way to express yourself, none of us can be perfect but we can be where we want to be if we work at it
