What you don't see is the countless hours I've put into the craft behind the scenes. A lot of it, besides referencing what I need such as Magellan's height and proportions, is an innate knowledge/muscle memory I have of anatomy, perspective, composition, lighting, and color. I know how I want the perspective grid set-up to guide the eye, and I'm very careful with my line weight between the foreground and background. I also draw and redraw and recolor when necessary. There is a lot of fine-tuning that happens during the creation process. I also have a LOT of reference (probably over 100 images of cities, artists, anime like Akira, even a 3D model I found of Senor Pink). Basically, I have a large knowledge of art, a lot of reference, and do a lot of prep work while being willing to adjust the image as need be (Luffy was added at the last second based on a gut feeling).

This one took me hours but it's done it's semi dark souls inspired and is a DND campaign I'm running heres the little bit of lore I wrote to complement the art

The tree-sick

Side note. If any of you ever want to learn painting in depth, get a hold of Richard Schmid's "Alla Prima" - that's how me and a few others I know learned. Also, the books "Color and Light" and "Imaginative Realism" both by James Gurney. Even if you paint in a more anime style, you will still learn.
