and played Urdak like a semi competent person

everything just went surprisingly well

It's called ballista boosting and it's quite simple
Go forward, jump, turn around, shoot your ballista and turn back to go flying

If you're using air control you'll need to let go of W from when you turn back to a bit after the ballista shot

My best time on E1M1: HANGAR is 10.37, and the craziest thing is, is when I started speedrunning this map i got under 11 seconds in just two days.

Demo recording isnt possible on the unity port, and on kex i think you can but those demos will only play back on kex and not on vanilla
To record demos you'd have to install a source port like dsda-doom or crispy doom

I generally play for fun but, I think you would need to do timed quests and one tip: don’t spam. The combat shotgun’s sticky bombs will def help against the arachnatrons cacojacksons and revenants. Know what weapon is best for every demon

When using mod swap to animation cancel a collectible pickup it's pretty common for people to have their weapon go missing; leaving the slayer with empty hands. Now I know how to fix it when it occurs, but issue is that it happens majority of the time and constantly fixing it really takes away from the enjoyment. Is there some kind of trick to pull off this cancel off more reliably? Like do I just need to time it better or...? I don't ever see 100% speedrunners having this issue so I must be doing something wrong

FPS limiters are heavily used in DE

Frame dependent physics, some things work better with lower framerate

Most common application of this is edge boosts, which is cool on a technical level because walking backwards is bound to scroll for it, and because it’s an input that’s impossible to hold down, it’s only for a single frame, so instead of moving backwards for 1/250th of a frame you limit it to 32FPS or something and move backwards for 1/32nd of a frame

Also, gonna preface this by saying yes absolutemassive is very skilled but even if I thought a no hit of DE were possible, I don’t feel as if those skills translate like that. In speedrunning your goals to get stuff done ASAP, you tank what you can within reason because it’s quicker to play less cautiously. I know Devo is a speedrunner as well but he put a lot of effort into gaining this one facet of skill to boot, which is him being able to play super cautiously

Can someone explain to me the timing for my inputs when trying to animation cancel sentinel battery pickups (During second half of Exultia). I've only successfully done it a handful of times via switching weapons but I can't get it to occur consistently. My inputs/timing are nearly identical when I fail vs succeed so it's too hard for me to tell what's going wrong/right. What I've been attempting to do right now is press my quickswap key and immediately after that I press my interact key to pickup the battery, and I press those as close together as I can without them being simultaneous. Am I doing it wrong / is there a better way? Or do I simply need more reps to get it down consistent

@thorn cape if I remember correctly the current meta is to do the thing glide ( I forgot what it’s called) off of one of the first monsters but I was thinking why not perfectly hit both to get a double boost and then hit the last monster to get an extra triple boost

You could even get a boost off the monster in the end door

couple things:

1. yeah you basically wallrun off of a zombie (when its off a monster or a "thing" like a barrel its called a thingrun), saves a couple tics

2. thingruns and wallruns only happen in certain directions and can only build up to certain speeds dpeending on the direction or kind etc. Perfectly going between 2 things would mean its a squeeze glide, but still you can only wallrun off of one of the walls or things in that case

3. you actually can thingrun the imp in the exit room but this is a way worse strat for the ending than a doorboost and him moving out of the way. and if youre going for the doorboost idk youre just not gaining that frame

for all intents and purpsoes final room is frame perfect and realistically should be for 4

the time can go down to like 4.91 fathomably without extra wallrun fuckery so you can justify a frame or 2 lost but yeah its rough

So basically the only thing now is to just improve movement. I was also saying if you got good RNG you could boost off the door and imp but it would have to be a lucky run. Idk if it’s worth it though

There’s multiple techs that include the weapon wheel in doom eternal, but I assume you mean the slope boost, which allows you to gain massive height, it’s been patched out, and has been since 1.1, when it was in the game, it worked cuz jump extensions didn’t have a limit for some reason, so spamming jump with a macro while in a jump extension spot, and using the weapon wheel to cram more inputs in while still in the extension zone would send you flying, if you’re really dedicated on doing it you can always downpatch your game, and if you’re referring to something else, I’d be glad to elaborate on that as well

You can press buttons through walls, and because doom isn't true 3D, then it doesn't matter how high or low a button is, as long as it is a certain horizontal distance away from you, you can press it. So behind that wall is the button to activating the bridge
