#doom-2016
1 messages · Page 48 of 1
Hey! I know servers are dead but if you got any buddies or even want to play alone, I made a survival snap map SABAYAMP is the ID, it should also be the newest map posted! Tell me what yall think!
Sup guys I am on PC i am trying to prestige up for the achievements if anybody is available to just play or help
I love doom and I was looking for this server because I somehow managed to play doom, on a literal printer
What
h iguys
Yes
Hi
Hell yeah
how much paper did you spend 😭
do people still play doom 2016 mp?
Once in a blue moon
Yesnt
why yesnt
Because it's mostly dead
The exact opposite
Idk
so its not dead?
Yes
damn, i gotta buy doom eternal some day
I wish 2016’s wasn’t dead tho, I prefer just a plain old deathmatch
cant run dark ages bc of shitty optimization
me too
I tried coop legacyofrust on nightmare that's the only multi-player history I have with doom
I never touch multiplayer
why not
I got the collectors edition, waited 3 months to download it, only thing I got was that my pc can't run it
Damn
the thing i do is wait for benchmarks, if its bad results, i dont buy
Yeah I heard pc players are not having a good time
i hate the pre order thing
forced ray tracing is horrible for a budget gamer like me
Forced ray tracing and shit
2016 and eternal doesnt break a sweat
Real
but dark ages makes my pc explode if i try to play it
I don't blame you, I just pre ordered the collectors edition because of the statue and keycard, plus rn it's been sold out since pre order
Luckily I'm on a white ice cream sandwich console with reversed colour's and vertical
1200 sheets 🤙
damn
Aka my ps5 I think I did an ass explanation
does ps5 run dark ages good
Excellent
lucky
It runs excellent
Idk haven't tried it
if its on console it prob means it runs really good
You didn't, somehow I just get every reference so somehow I understood what you were talking about
since ps5 only has specific components
For some reason devs can optimize the game for console ports but not for pc
I knew my gtx 1060 laptop would explode me into hell if I tried to run it from the start
They need to remove forced ray tracing
the problem is pc has lots of different gpus and shit like that while console is 1 componnent
yeah dude
wait i think i saw a video on how to play it without ray tracing
I heard you gotta mess with it's files or something
Wouldn’t the anti cheat throw a fit?
lemme see on google
If you wanna dodge ray tracing
Does a single player game even require anti cheat
I've been worried about this since the issue started becoming more relevant, if they remove it then lower powered pc's can be able to run it
It’s bullshit but it is there
if mods are supported they might have a remove ray tracing mod
I think tda will have the same official mod support as eternal idk tho
but dark ages was built with ray tracing in mind so without ray tracing its all black 😞
The thing is tho, the game has a message that pops up when you try to play it on lower powered pc's that'll say it won't work on the pc
Not even kidding, my dad runs Linux and he was locked out of the game multiple times for 24 hours. The anti cheat ruins Linux support, pissed my dad off and made him get a refund.
u can run the game file with administrator to play without ray tracing
but its very dark
i think il stick w doom 2016 and eternal since i have a 2050 with 4gb vram
this is the problem with the gaming industry, they want us to buy better components to buy expensive games
if u have a bad pc, you gotta upgrade for tda
I could try, I just haven't used my pc in a few months so I'll probably have to update it
oh alright
what specs do you have
teach your dad how to be a pirate
Work laptop
tda isnt running on a work laptop
He’s a Linux guy of course he knows how to pirate, he just wanted to support his favorite company
its gonna explode lol
if u can tell me the company i can see if theres a donation site or smth
2016 anticheat??
I play on linux just fine
Ik, I wanna upgrade to an alienware or something
damn
We are talking about TDA
oh
i got confused since this is the 2016 channel
Idk how this came about but we are essentially glazing 2016 and eternal for better optimization
wow lol
@foggy salmon cant ur dad buy the game and not install and then pirate it for no anticheat?
He would rather not spend the money
He isn’t supporting a game that’s dumb enough to have anti cheat on a single player
He was crashing out so hard about it
damn
im on pc
nop
yeah ik
Idk why the multiplayer has to be so limited bro
its sad
Sad indeed, I was hoping I could assemble a group to try out my survival map, I made it with the intention of more than one player.
BRO THEY SHOULD if they did that the multiplayer would get revived
Yee @yousuck12212332
how rude
It's late rn maybe tomorrow
Hello everyone, I would like 3 people to connect AFK to the Doom 2016 servers so that I can make 2 trophies. You are not obligated to do so, but if you want to participate, reply to this message.
Sadly it’s not cross platform bro, what you on?
Ps4
Xbox, sorry
is snapmap not on the switch version
cause I can't find it
Switch does suck like that, I wouldn’t be suprised if they did
Same man im looking to get the trophies
Im on PlayStation as well
Update: there is a match on PlayStation
Someone tell me for one of the challenges how I kill 8 ENEMIES IN ONE SHOT?!
what level
Hello, I'm searching for teammates to doing the playstation trophies of doom 2016 pls 👉👈
Are u playing right now?
My PSN is screennik btw if someone wanna add me
(pls)
Dawg
BFG
Btw, we had discussion some time ago about corner tactic and I guess, I agree now that it's more effecient in some cases at least for master levels on Nightmare. I played them and most effecient tactic for most arenas for me was to find good spot to camp and control and go through whole encounter standing there.
As Katsu said - BFG.
If I remember right, it' Lararus Labs, so you can do it right at the start of the level, when you drop in shaft of elevator after siphon greande. There are a lot of fodder enemies, which can be killed easily.
although you were correct in that the siphon grenade especially with equipment power lets you get away with waaay more aggressive play than you otherwise could
doom 2016 does become way more fun when you have the tools to actually recover health properly and not just make every combat encounter into a race between the demons and your health bar to see which runs out first
it's a big part of why I enjoy the mid- to endgame of 2016 so much
sure you have a bunch of busted stuff like free bfg and instant siege mode but if you play the game without purposefully cheesing, it's really really good
the last room of vega core is still the most difficult fight in modern doom to clear without superweapons
I mean, in vanilla D16 there are a lot of strong or even OP stuff, which let player to be more aggressive and care less about downsides of such approach, but in vanilla Nightmare/UN without health upgrades main system of GK is indeed not very rewarding in terms of drops and potentially dangerous, since fodder provides a lot of damage and there is no damage mitingation on low health, like in Eternal (plus enemy may continue attack during and after GK, wihch has no i-frames after GK).
100%. My mod for example, not only has 2 drops per normal situation with 3+3 value on Nightmare, but also has other tools: same Siphon restores armor by default (but it's weaker), vanilla Armor Rune (but it's weaker) and then damage mitingation or increase for Runes, damage increase on low health, Holo on low health with Saving Throw, Vacuum provides way more health from kills, when health is low, new grenades, which provide health and armor drops. I think more tools in this case give way more variety for approaches even with nerfed overpowered stuff.
Agree. Same.
Yeah, Vega last fight is my favorite for sure. I like it with no upgrade/no rune/no BFG run so much on Nightmare - probably my favoirte in terms of feeling for Nightmare for end game, but must admit, when I'm lazy I corner camp there too sometimes. 😅
Can’t help but agree. I lost my Ultra-Nightmare run after the second big arena in Kadingir Sanctum (although, that’s because I got careless), so I don’t even want to think about that arena in VEGA Central.
yeah, just so many enemies in such a difficult-to-traverse area
cyber mancs are ridiculously tanky, and they just throw like half a dozen of them at you it feels like
along with a ton of barons, pinkies, cacos, just absolute insanity
and obviously you've got imps who just snipe tf out of you from across the entire arena
Still searching for players to do the ps multiplayer trophies pls 👉👈
Anyone want to help with Eternal trophies?
Need 1
this is why i maxed out siege, ssg and rich get richer
gauss cannon can do a LOT since the bottom ofthe train tracksis basically two longcorridors
Imagine DOOM 2016 but cheese 🧀
Yeah if you camp in the corner of a corridor and use hologram/siphon grenade and all the cheese strats it’s not a hard room, nothing in 2016 is after a certain point
They gave a bunch of cool shit to the player but seemingly didn’t realize the potential for abuse those systems had
Hello, searching for teammates on playstation to do the multiplayer trophies plssssss 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Same
We're too then, how many needed to start a game ?
4
We need more 2
Do you plan to do only the base game trophies or the dlc's too?
Tag me if you find the others left 😅
I'd like to get 100% trophies 😅
Same
I’ll never understand what the obsession with 100%ing a game is
95% of the people here don’t even enjoy multiplayer
I'm a perfectionist I guess 🤷♂️
Yeah me too
Idk i never played this
Maybe because its dead
Idk what the point of playing a game is if it just becomes a chore
I wouldn't be trying to get the trophies if i hadn't liked the game
Same I have a lot of games I didn't finished
i lowk enjoy it
its just the grind is boring asl
having multiplayer gamemodes with doom movement and weapons/abilities is fun most of the time
Every time I see 2016 multiplayer footage it just lulls me to sleep. It may feel good to play but my god it's so slow. Moreover I don't get how anyone can call it 'classic multiplayer' with enforced loadouts, equipment, boosters and abilities instead of dodging projectiles and controlling the map. Maybe if you were born in 2004 and Halo was your only frame of reference for 'oldschool'.
Also the hit sounds are louder than the gun SFX lol.
It's classic in a certain way. But I do agree it's not the quake experience you'd expect it to be. Still fun to play none the less.
Still searching for teammates to do the multiplayer trophies on playstation 🙏🙏🙏
that happened to me once
Is there a mod that increases footstep audio and you can hear your footsteps even when the character walks?
My little sister is strangely in love with the pinky’s, what do I do bro 😭
Tell her it'll eat her family
So tell her to choose the fam or the fictional shaved gorilla
SHE DOESNT CARE, SHE WOULD ALWAYS INTERUPT MY GAMEPLAY WHEN A PINKY SHOWS UP, PRAYING ON IT TO KILL ME
🤣🤣🤣
Let’s see

Brb
Alr
Thx bruh
anyone here playing on pc?
for some reason i can run eternal and dark ages in 165 fps butterly smooth but whenever im in an interface ( in DOOM 2016 ) my game start running at 13 fps how can this happen
i have rejoined this amazing server
me
Is there a mod that adds/increases footstep audio when walking
Try to change API: OpenGL or Vulkan.
Not aware. I tried to, but failed.
What's your favorite secret from doom 2016 mine is th3 one where you shoot the icon of sin head and then you get a lil toy:)
Still searching for teammates do to the multiplayer trophies on playstation
Yeah
Thanks
Would a mod like that be possible to make?
Probably, but I tried to increase sound of footsteps in 2020 and it didn't work for some reason. You can try with DoomExtract - maybe you have better luck.
Does the multiplayer have crossplay?
No, as far as I know.
🥀
Is multiplayer even available???
Multiplayer doom sounds awesome
Yeah
Guys I'm playing DOOM and this defibrillator is talking to me and I can't find anything online
Has anyone heard about this?
Olivia pierce really fell for a Nigerian prince email scam didn’t she
If you are on pc the saves and profile folder dont get deleted when you uninstall the game
oh ok thx
But I would recommend enabling cloud save if you are on steam
so i can ?
yeah but its not active
Still searching for guys to do the multiplayer trophies on playstation
i trid and it work so fucking well thx
are servers still active
Yes, wanna help me with the trophies ?
;_;
Rip and tear until it's done⛓️🪚
Anyone on?
I'm here!
Still searching for players to do the multiplayer trophies
Pleeease 🙏🙏🙏
Im down to boost
im making a comback guys
Anyone on now?
I can play on PC or switch
I can play on 𝕏box
I can play on PS
I'm replacing this on ultra violence
Thanks
Platinum ones are extremely easy: win a match, reach rank 5. That's it. If you want the expansion pack ones, you'll have to grind like a maniac for the "Computing in style" and "Beauty is pain"
I'd recommend sticking to base game only, unless you just happen to LOVE the multiplayer and want to grind it out (beauty is pain is like level 400 minimum, I think, I DO(O) Mean GRIND)
((sorry not sorry))
Hi
W name from W games
Demons demons demoms
W people for w games
Y’all, I got fuckin’ merked by the first Baron at Kadingir Sanctum on Ultra-Nughtmare. Furthest I’ve gotten in 8 years since I got the game.
Barons barons barons... The demon that Scared the s### out of me 12 times...
But he is still my fav demon.
when will framegen and dlss come to 2016
Yo guys, I have an idea for a debate: Do you think a biological female is required to resurrect the Spider Mastermind or would a trans female also count?
Just thought about it, and in my opinion it's a question that will never be answered by official sources
w-what
The codex entry for the Spider Mastermind contains the following:
"The tome (...) spoke cryptically of the Aranea Imperatrix as being the union between the master of the fourth age of Hell and the "key holder", referred to only as being a female with no further clarification."
Olivia was used to revive the OG Mastermind, but, was that because she is a biological female, or because she is identified as one?
I know, it's something crazy to think about, but in my opinion it has the potential to become the next "shambler fur vs no fur"
I don't think it really should, though
But yeah, just a shower thought. I'm not expecting any of you to ask id Software for the answer to this dilemma. Now, back to our scheduled program, where everyone asks if someone can help them with the multiplayer achievements!
So funny
I don’t think it matters probably
The demon itself is female but given the craziness of the transformation I imagine it doesn’t matter who you use
Honestly, fair enough
Actually on reread
I think the idea is probably more in that instance it was specifically a female but like in a prophecy way
So like It Was Going To Be Olivia
My interpretation was that anyone would work for the resurrection, but the Mastermind just likes it better to have a female vessel, since she is also a girl. But I also like your interpretation, that Olivia specifically was going to be the vessel, since she is also just a brain that needs technology in order to do anything or go anywhere
But it wasn't mentioned because it was dumb, I guess, and sounds way too specific to be taken seriously
Either that or there's no further clarification because the page containing said information was torn apart. I've just thought about that
Anyone on?
@astral rain @candid warren thanks, just wanted to
Do base game
I BEAT DOOM 2016 ON HURT ME PLENTY DIFFICULTY WITH EVERY COLLECTIBLE AND SECRET
Congrats
Nice job!
First time?
W
Great job 👏🏻…..
Now do UN
Yes
Abso-fucking-lutely
NOT
I still remember my first time beating the game after being tossed around by barons. If I had played the previous games before, I'm sure my brains would explode due to the amount of respect that those original titles get
Like, so many references I didn't get
Yeah, but also easter eggs, like some doors having the OG sound when opening or closing, the Icon of Sin in a Hell level I can't remember (and the figure collectible tied to it), the Spider Mastermind's codex entry making a reference to Tower of Babel by naming a piece of data codenamed E2M8...
Also, many tracks contain melodies heard in the previous games, there's a whole video dedicated to that
Good point
when is eternal and 2016 getting reflex and framegen like dark ages
Your rage baits are awful
Is that really a ragebait? I actually didn't even think about it
Guys can someone help me with the multiplayer trophy on PS4 pls
Bro pick a game to hate on lmao
Im on ps5, sorry
Aren't the PS5 and PS4 servers the same?
where in that sentence was i hating
where in that sentance was i hating
How bro feels:
But in reality
Just jokin around, if 2016 had a dlc, what would it be?
And how would it differ from the base game
Y'alls thoughts
Anyone playing multiplayer these days? I'm looking for a couple games. Hit me up if interested.
It did have dlc actually! But it's integrated into the base game now. Just MP content tho, lame
i feel like the only dlc that could realistically be made is a tag styled level pack detailing where the slayer ended up at the end of 2016
and how he escaped to the fortress of doom at the start of eternal
make doom eternal and 2016 combinded in 1 game
That's a good pick
The fact a DLC covering that gap didn't happen is still baffling to me. I love the new multiplayer content (when it became free, lol) but story DLC... Come on, man
But don't get me wrong, I'm forever grateful for the Harvester being a thing. He's my favorite demon
2016 argent d'nur was so well portrayed.
I don't even know how to describe it. It's just so cool.
isn't 2016 argent d'nur just the hell environment but tweaked
Anyway a group of people want to run some games of multiplayer on Doom 2016, I’m trying to platinum the game but need to level up to 5. 🙂
Hi, not now but I am available,I play on ps4
Add me ItalianMadness93
I am also here to complete the multiplayer trophies of the free expansion.
Sick! Okay
if it was cheaper then sure lol. the mechanics and whatnot are very different tho
him escaping whatever prison Samuel put him in and how he got the fortress of doom probably
But what demons would he fight?
ig whatever else the uac was experimenting on
But there couldnt be enough for a full dlc of levels
Do u know how she looks like?
Didn't get that far in the game to tell you
Does she have white hair?
I don't know
she teleports
and when I chainsaw her it goes trough the middle off her head
A robotic looking body ig?
I don't remember
she screams like "AHAHAHEHI0OAEOHIEAHIOAEHIAEOZHIA"
More like screeching
Might encounter her bcus i'm at level 4
I have a hunch that she might be olivia pierce
Nope
Also you will probably get stuck at lvl 4
I got stuck for 4 days until I figured out what I needed to do from watching like 8 tutorials
Thx for telling me all of that=))
Oh you're thinking of the summoner
She teleports
Yes that is the one
Romero, Carmack, a couple other guys
nevermind
Uh okie dokie
Fun fact, romero had a romanian wife for 7 years
Raluca Alexandra was her name
Normally many games don’t have story spoiler in their Credits rolls. but in 2016 DOOM it has a warning dialog about it. why’s that?
Because the credits are animated and showcase several parts of the campaign
More like… RIP AND TEAR 2016!!!! Ha!1
Never
lol
Framegen?
thats so trash
Whats framegen?
So are your ragebaits
Shh
no?
doom 2016 is capped at eye torture 200fps
so framegen would fix that
200fps? Dawg the human eye can only see a max of 90fps lmfao
Plus, most games run at 120fps, pls get better at ragebaiting
Both of you 🤫
Yeah they legit should just
bro did not tell me to get better at rage baiting after saying humans can see max of 90fps
Its a fact lol look it up
youre not understanding that info, its talking about when an image it on screen the 1/90th of a second
humans wouldnt be able to notice if an image is flashed for 1/200th of a second
fuck im falling for your rage bait
you got me and pissed me off
More like…. PARKOUR 2016!! HAH!1
stop doing this
: (
but someone gotta throw oil into the flame
who the fuck ghost pinged me
I don't know but you need to chill out with the anger at everyone this week
???
Blast that soundtrack this Sunday, that marks 9 years since its release.
I just beat the game earlier
I should’ve played doom eternal first
I played in the wrong order
Dw, 2016 comes first, then eternal
I just looked at the player list, and it says there is a bot in the server named Vega
Yeah, and there's also a channel dedicated to it
Dang
Doom 2016 is the best doom game
I don’t know how anyone could disagree
Ultra knightmare was a grind
But I did it
The whole game resets
It took me 17 days
You get one extra life btw with the saving throw rune
Hmmmmm
I JUST FINISHED THE GAME(2AM btw and i have hw left but its fineee)
The ending boss fight was slightly dissapointing, i liked the first one with the big guy who brought you to hell a lot better, but the cinematics for the credits were great
I need to buy eternal but ill wait till it goes on sale for 10(every major steam sale)
nicee
Don’t buy eternal
You can go with him, maybe you'll meet two more people as irrationally butthurt about Eternal as you are over there.
Why are you in this channel?
I expected to read genuine interesting discussion about 2016 and I walked into two people shitting on another game to make theirs look better.
Okay I can go into detail on why I don’t like eternal
Quite lame.
But first I want to know what you like about eternal so we can have a discussion
Two things: I would disagree with all of them, and this is the 2016 channel, so you could simply invest that time in talking about 2016 instead of going 'no don't buy game, game bad' to someone completely unprompted.
You also seem very confrontational and I'm not interested in talking to someone with your tone.
So? Does that just automatically trigger you into saying 'don't buy it it sucks'?
Along with that other dude with the mispelled name?
Someone says they plan on buying a bad game and I recommend them not to buy said bad game I don’t see the problem here
You say this and then brazenly say 'tell me what you like about Eternal so we can have a discussion'.
I can just imagine how one of those with you would go.
Okay don’t have one then
Yeah and I also imagine very few will.
I’ve had discussions with people about the game before
You are taking this too seriously
It’s made for people with low attention spans, why do you think there is colours flying everywhere and shit
I'm just saying, if you preface your opinion with 'game bad so I'm telling them it's bad' and say things like this when it's as been as critically and financially successful as we both know, I think it's fair to entertain the hilarity.
I get you might be upset 2016 isn't as popular as DE is but you don't have to make it so obvious.
Why would I be upset? Real doom fans still play 2016
Real Doom fans hold stick measuring discussions about what their favorite game is and get upset about That Other Game.
Get it right.
You can’t even tell me what you like about the game
You don't realize I'm taking the piss?
Why is it on me to tell you what I like about a game you've made up your mind about, what do you want? An internet win?
LOL.
Why even start an argument with me if you can’t even make it productive
You just wanted to say I’m wrong and not say how
Because I'm not arguing? I'm just poking fun at your demeanor.
What other game
No harm in that, I'm not insulting you or 2016, I'm just having fun. What's the matter?
Because you bore me
Et*rnal, that other game I don't like because my eyes are too sensitive.
Too much color and fast movement, I feel old.
Play the game I like.

Oh no. I better pack it up, Discord user Vonlenska isn't having fun :(.
Thank you
They just said heh let’s make a game that’s more fast and more colourful that equals good
I wrote this dialogue between these two actors, enjoy it.
Screw good combat and map design just make things faster
They also turned Samuel Hayden into a joke
Mind you this is the discussion that would've happened. 10 things about 'muh tone' and 'muh ruined the other game by having better combat' and nothing about why 2016 is actually better in any real capacity. Just lame bullet points and 'this game too coloful, too fast, not griddy like the first'.
you realize 2016 used the same somewhat bland hell map design like 3-4 times?
and to boot half of the levels before mid-game were the same industrial setting?
I love 2016, don't get me wrong but this "bad map design" is incredibly subjective
What?
Each hell location was different in design
Watch now he's going to pretend to act confused.
Like he doesn't understand your points.
You want one to happen and you're not getting one.
Your not capable of having one
kadingir sanctum and argent d'nur are in damn near indistinguishable environments, except one is slightly darker than the other
and if you asked me to tell you the difference between titan's realm and necropolis I legitimately could not do it
all the industrial levels kinda blend together as well, though laz labs is still my favorite level in the game just because of enemy composition
No, just no? Did you play blind folded ?
I can tell every level apart
The difference is in the color of the rocks used. It's like telling apart a desert under two slightly different lighting conditions.
Doom 2016 only had one bad level, doom eternal only had a few good levels
well, so can I, but only because I've semi-memorized the shapes of the arenas
not because the environments are incredibly distinct
really good level
last arena is still the hardest combat in all of modern doom
assuming no superweapons of course
2016's hell is easily the worst hell in the series purely from a design standpoint. Nothing in it feels deliberate and that's by design since it's all ruins in lore. The tech levels peak with Foundry and Argent Facility if I'm honest, the rest of the game is a lot more linear and the more enemies the game tosses at you ironically I find the game gets easier because there's less fodder.
And as we all know imps and soldiers suck in 2016. Actual dogshit.
The hardest arena is the first gore nest in recourse operations
I would agree that 2016 has the worst hell designs of modern doom, though I wouldn't say it's bad per se, just a bit bland
pfffff
just go ham with the rocket launcher
wait that's foundry
It’s level 2 there is no rocket launcher
yeah mb
but the last gore nest in res ops isn't that bad either
You only have combat shotgun
Oh yeah no it's not shit, just really unmemorable. I like how Eternal and TDA have actual architecture and actual you know, hell vistas. 2016 said 'let's tint it red that way it feels more evil' and it's still just a bunch of rocks. A bit lame.
on the contrary, I fkin hate foundry
true
I like foundry
Only level I don’t like is argent tower
hell knights freaked me tf out the first time I played foundry but on repeat playthroughs they aren't that bad
eternal and tda 100% did the early game better than 2016 in terms of enemies
I do like the 'nonlinear' aspect of it in that you can tackle each gore nest individually. But that's about it really. Keys are completely unnecessary, secret hunting feels very basic since it's early on in the game and it feels less open than it appears at first glance. Argent Facility does a better job at nonlinear design.
2016 did the early game better than 2016?
you saw nothing
🤫
Keys are very necessary
2016's early game is really strong in design and visuals, the fodder balance kinda ruins it though.
yes
Eternal was also before Microsoft
But yet you have to pay 20 dollars for 3 more levels 🥀
soldiers and imps just two-shot you and you have no ability to regain resources
Honestly 2016 feels like they gave a shit in the first 5 levels up to Kadingir, then slacked for the rest of the game. The industrial vibe is mostly absent, hell just isn't very interesting and the combat flatlines because you become simply too strong for the enemies to handle.
If the game had kept its highs from those first 6 levels I would love it. But as it is, I'd rather have 2016's first 6 levels ported to Eternal.
for me the game only really takes off after foundry
yeah you've got a bunch of OP stuff but if you don't abuse the shit out of it then the mid game is awesome
obviously it does start to peter out at the end because the enemy variety isn't that great
although vega core is an exception
who knew cyber manc and baron spam was the answer
2016 had snapmap so it's automatically a bazillion times better than Eternal in my eyes, sorry eternalbros but I'm out here playing slop and LOVING it
slopmap
Problem is you want to. The game incentivizes you into unlocking the hard hitting stuff to dispatch fodder which is EVERYWHERE, almost as if they knew imps and soldiers were the hardest enemies by far. Enemy variety is also a big downside yeah. I honestly don't know why Revenants are as lame as they are in 2016, in Eternalthey can fuck you up if you're not careful. Especially TDA's revenants.
I remember Snapmap every now and again, I remember liking custom geo maps when they first came out until I realized how jank they were and how much TRASH got uploaded to farm snap points. Honestly a lot of 2016 hasn't aged very well.
Particularly the multiplayer.
I like the multiplayer and I like snapmap as a concept. In execution it's not fantastic but that's because of the user generated maps being lacking; actually making stuff yourself is really cool
once I get remote det, fodder gets knocked down quite a few pegs
imps are obviously always gonna be dicks but the rest can just be mostly written off
feels nice to have remote det that actually does damage
but yeah revs are just sad in 2016
It is until you fall into account just how limiting everything is. Plus a lot of maps are simply arena combat focused stuff made with prefabs because that's easy to do. After a while it starts running together.
It's not like Eternal where you can have truly custom maps with idStudio, Snapmap won't let you place doors manually and is missing enemies.
I had the opposite feeling with the Revenants, aside from the TDA part, haven't played the game yet. I think in 2016 they looked awesome and were nice opponents, while in Eternal I can snipe their cannons off and they are instantly no longer an issue, plus they just look weird
even on nightmare 2016 revs kinda just scream at me and don't do much
Limits aren't a problem for me because I'm too stupid to use the editor well enough to need to remove them 😎
eternal revs aren't so bad after you get the ssg but at least they do keep you on your toes
HC sniping is just a waste of ammo, they go down in one SSG blast at pointblank. Also I wasn't talking about how easy they are to take out (and even then that's not really a negative, more ways to take down enemies are always welcome) my point is how deadly they can be if you don't focus them.
2016's rev rockets barely connect. They're slow, the hitbox is minuscule, and are easily dodged. Whereas in Eternal they can home in, they travel faster, they hit harder, and they have AOE so they actually hit.
I mean you did say in 2016 they are "lame" so I responded with why I think they're cooler. Maybe Eternal ones are more dangerous if you don't focus on them, but for me that almost never happens because I just snipe their cannons and it's incredibly hard to lose focus at that point
2016 revs have a cooler design, no question
but they're fairly pathetic
Actually same goes for every enemy in Eternal. 2016's enemies feel like they're on slow motion most of the time. The Mancubus in particular is pretty depressing to fight, Eternal's manc will fuck you up 7 ways to Sunday.
2016 enemies feel slow but most of them deal comically high damage to compensate
Easily my favorite incarnation of the enemy just in terms of how fucking high its raw DPS is.
80 damage spammed fireballs
but they're more the exception in eternal as far as dangerous heavy enemies
cacos can mess you up if you're sleeping, but other than them, mancs, and pain elementals, heavy demons in eternal are really not that bad
In NM yeah, no death threshold and unpredictable patterns, you can't strafe at a consistent pace since sprint speed in any direction but forwards is slower, on top of the stupid amounts of damage because the game wasn't playtested very thoroughly on that diff.
Honestly 80 damage on stray imp fireballs is some horseshit. 2016's balancing is all over the place but personally I hate the way damage is calculated.
it does not feel like 2016 was balanced on nightmare
regular fireballs deal 45 damage iirc
although charged fireballs deal 75
which is still ridiculous
although it often feels like a lot more because most of the time before the midway point of the game you're rarely at full health
combat arenas are basically a race between the demon spawns and your health bar to see which will run out faster
I rarely bother with the later levels in this game for reason cited above, but one of those is that the game doesn't feel any different than how it starts out. With Eternal and TDA you absolutely feel the escalation in difficulty, 2016 sorta stays in one spot and the only thing that escalates is the amount of fodder that spawns to deal stupid amounts of damage meanwhile you become more and more broken to the point heavies are just there to look pretty.
I mostly regret the fact the game does away with the industrial vibes from its early levels though. Foundry and Argent are cool, I don't like the hi-tech pristine lab setting. Doesn't scream 'DOOM' to me.
eternal's difficulty is all over the place tbh
tda is the only one of the 3 that has a consistently increasing difficulty curve
Progression wise from ITYTD to NM? Yeah absolutely, but I was talking about the difficulties themselves.
I mean from level to level
cultist base and the first arena of doom hunter are bonkers, and the game kinda goes to sleep until sentinel prime (arc complex can be kinda tricky but still not that bad)
then taras nabad is probably the hardest level in the game, nekravol is a joke, then urdak and final sin are both pretty hard
I think that's intentional, you don't want to keep the game at an 11 at all times. That's what the MLs are for. I'll give you that the early levels are pretty hard, but then again if you're on NM with no upgrades everything will be bonkers anyways.
right I don't want the game to be really hard all the time
not even necessarily complaining about the difficulty curve in eternal, but just pointing out that TDA kinda nailed the difficulty ramp-up after update 2's reworks
Also I'm not sure TN is the hardest in the game. The ML is probably the highest peak in difficulty in the entire new trilogy but vanilla TN just has the Archvile and the final arena with a buncha crucible ammo pickups.
without the bfg/crucible it's on par with cultist base and sometimes harder imo
and that's not even really counting the meme last encounter where you're supposed to slice things up
That encounter seemed super tough at first. Then I just realized it's barons, DHs, an Archie and a Marauder I think?
the last encounter doesn't have a marauder nah
Definitely not that hard once you figure out what to take out first.
although honorable mention goes towards the second marauder who always glitches out on the stairs
Okay then yeah all smiles.
the last arena isn't even a problem
the areas with the odd geometry and the big threatening enemies are the ones that tend to get me
Yeah honestly DE's technical inconsistencies are shitty but you get used to them. You sorta learn to avoid certain enemy and terrain combos because the game breaks easily.
Reason I had to cap my FPS to 120. Anything higher and enemy lunge makes them slide across the floor and stick to me.
what, don't you like carcasses with infinite melee range?
Enemy melee in Eternal is devastating. Getting close to an enemy without pre-stunning them is a death sentence.
yep
Which makes sense all things considered. People complain about melee doing 0 damage which, have you even played the game. Standing up close to an enemy in this game is asking to get bitched.
You'd only really be punching zombies anyways, might as well be gunfire.
yeah no matter how big your weapons get you can still get bitch slapped by anything
i mean
once you uhhh
stun gun the plasma rifle
the revs become a MUCH lesser problem
esp since you SSG the same level you meet the revenant
neither 2016 revs nor eternal revs are very threatening
Except eternal revs at least have a small presence because they attack more frequently and their missiles are homing
true
I mean when it goes on sale for 10 bucks why would i not pick that up? Thats less than a chipotle bowl
tbh i dont really care for lore if gameplay is fun enough.
i mean lore helps a ton, like fortnite glory days, lore was amazing, now its trash. but if the game's story mode is still good then ill take it
I do agree with this tho, this is why doom's graphics still feel good even tho its almost 10 years old
🙄
I don't know what it is with Eternal haters acting so unhinged.
Like are you okay? Can you show us on the doll where the game said bad words to you?
I have so many words that I can't muster up any of them
1000%
"fine diners" literally are just people who pay obscene amounts of money for what is actually mediocre food presented as holy grails of cuisine so they can feel special about themselves
i would not call myself a fine diner and then hate on the dish i paid pretty penny for
no they're usually not
I don't really hate it, I just don't like the style they used for it
Eternal being all over the place hurt it a bit tbh
like exultia in between the earth levels why lol
random ass setting change
hell on earth levels my beloved
…complaining about someone acting “unhinged” because they said ‘fine diner’ and then saying this is… yikes…
Why did you even get that mad at them they just joked about preferring the UAC setting 😭
First level of Eternal is definitely one of my favourites of the franchise as a whole, I loved seeing an actual city in Doom
Doom II’s aren’t bad but they’re definitely less.. uh.. recognisably on Earth
I definitely prefer 2016’s cohesive level order even though it got a liiitle same-y at some points

Don't understand regarding fine diner part discussion (nor I understand why people upset about it), since not a native English speaker, but I assume it's about consistency and connection of Doom 2016 level design more, compared to "all over the place" Eternal one and here I agree. But I like some levels in Eternal too or parts of the levels. so I wouldn't say I dislike Eternal approach and visual design can be great in Eternal. And even in 2016 there are some levels, which are too short for me or I don't like visual design or approach of them. And as @ UAC File; said feels same-y a bit. But I still think that 2016 is better in this and I like it more.
In 2016:
- UAC - I like it, because it's nice and free for roaming. Like that it's outdoors level. Quite skippable. Don't like regular start (due to good, but still long cutscenes), enemy variety and level being too short, even with all encounters.
- Res Ops - is fine level with fine arenas, secrets etc, even though first "corridor->arena" level. Fine with being mostly "indoors" level. Don't like enemy variety and long dialogue in the end.
- Foundry - among my favorite due to visual design and being partly free for roaming. Indoors, but doesn't feel like it. Like that mid tier enemy finally appears. Not skippable, unlike UAC. Don't like big area with deadly lava.
- Argent Facility - I like it, even though hated it on my first playthoughs and dropped games 2 times here. Like sort of free roaming part and length. Partly indoors/outdoors level. Hated it before because of length - thought it was too long with full level exploration. Not very impressive outside of "tornado" thing in visuals, but fine in general (like flying things, cold area, Summoner, secrets).
- Argent Tower - is a good level in terms of feeling progression and that Mancubus, Revenant appear. Partly outdoors. but mostly indoors level. "Corridor->arena" level, but fine one. Don't like too much of deadly platforming, though.
- Kadingir Sanctum - my favorite hell level and among my favorite in general. I like visual design, outside of red arena in the end. Like that Cacos, Lost Souls, Barons appear. Outdoors level. Only upset that there are no Pinkies. "Corridor->arena" level, but I'm totally fine with it.
- Argent Facility (Destroyed) - don't like that level reused, but otherwise like it way more than original. Optional fights, Pinkies, good balance between enemies - great. Mostly outdoors level. Visuals are ok.
- From Argent Facility (Destroyed) all levels are "Corridor->arena" levels.
- ARC - is mostly good. BFG finally. Like arena fights. Don't like long dialogue, platforming area, being indoors level and last arena being a bit small.
- Lazarus Labs - fine, I guess. Long enough, which I like, but not too long. Like last arena and boss fights. Some fights are remarkable, some are not. Indoors level with fine design.
- Titan's Realm - fine, I guess. Not very remarkable for me outside of start. Indoors level with okayish design. Dark and feels squarish in terms of surroundings.
- Necropolis - meeeh. I like second fight, fights vs Barons and boss fight. Indoors level with okayish design. Dark and feels squarish in terms of surroundings. Very short.
- Vega - I like it. Last fight is probably among, if not the most favorite. Bright after 2 dark levels. A bit new visual approach. Indoors level with good remarkable design.
- Argent D'nur - I like it and all the fights. Oudoors level. A bit short for final battle, but boss fight sort of compensates for it. Feels too focused on arenas (few more corridors would be better).
======
In Eternal (which I barely remember):
- All levels are "Corridor->arena" levels. Mostly like visuals of surroundins (but often just ok with closer accessible for exploring/walking areas). Mosrly good mix of outdoors/indoors areas.
- Hell on Earth - my most replayed level, if I want to just chill or for reward system. Like it. Music is amazing. Oudoors level. Easy. Maybe a bit too little enemies and a bit too little harder enemies variety, but still better in this compared to 2016 starting levels.
- Exultia - like this level too and replay it often to chill and for rewards system. Like visuals of 1st part (2nd hell part is fine, I guess). More enemies. Oudoors mostly. Relatively easy. Platforming - is ok/don't like, but fine. Goo area is meh.
- Cultist Base - a bit mixed feelings. Sometimes replay it too. Mix of outdoors/indoors areas. Feels a bit long in some parts. Don't remember well.
- Doom Hunter Base - mixed feelings, but less likeable compared to previous one. Like boss figh. Mix of outdoors/indoors areas. Don't like length, platforming. Don't remember well.
- Super Gore Nest - favorite level in Eternal. Amazing balance of everything for me. Only issue is that feels a bit squarish for some reason and visuals are fine/good.
- ARC Complex - don't like it, but don't remember well too. Like Marauder fight in the end. Remember goo, remember boring buildings and fine arena fights there. Don't like length.
- Mars Core - I don't know. BFG finally. Probably should like, especially in destroyed Mars area (visually really cool), but don't remember well outside of some fights and platforming.
- Sentinel Prime - boss fight and that's it. Boss is fine.
- Taras Nabad - among my favorite, if I want harder fights. Like visuals. Like Marauder at the start (even though, don't like other monsters there). Like Archville and Crucible. Don't like that it's very long.
- Nekravol I/II - outside of starting area visuals don't remember well and not very remarkable for me. Like final battle in 2nd part and hell vibe. Remember that indoors feels squarish and there are too many indoors areas. Very long.
- Urdak - amazing visuals, especially outdoors. Good fights. Boss fight. Hate platforming.
- Final Sin - music from starting level. Boss fight. A lot of long fights vs heavy enemies in general. Mostly feels indoors and squarish there with boring buildings. A bit of mixed feeling overall, but I would say more good for me.
Interesing, 2016 to me is like grey gruel. Except it's sometimes orange, sometimes green, sometimes red. It's like food dye in a sense but the same meal at the end of the day. Eternal to me feels like a bowl of salad with no dressing. There's less protein and 'fat' and more veggies because the game wants you to forget all the window dressing from 2016 and embrace actually learning to read the enemies, plan out firefights and know when to go in and out of 1v1s. You have to learn the game and play to it and that's the fun of it.
2016's lack of rules and wacky balancing is what puts me off of it, along with the visuals which are nice for the first 5 levels but the game was really hurting for variation. It would've helped if hell felt designed in a way that felt purposeful and rich with details and depictions of suffering/torture like Eternal.
You missed the whole exchange from the day before and that's okay. You don't have to read if you don't want to.
Also I thought I had you ignored, funny.
Are they microwaving the poor cat
Don't post stupid shit
It was. Take it up in a modmail dm if you have a problem and not in here.
Wait, question- whats wrong with that?
Oh- its not Doom related lol nvm i forgot about that rule for a sec
Whered his messages go? Lol did he get banned or something?
Call a mod or admin a Nazi and yeah you get banned. No room for that here.
Oh, i didnt know he called you a Nazi lol sorry
No worries. Anyway, I'm going to start a new Nightmare run in 2016 next week and try to 100% it
Oh I’m sorry I only read the messages from today and I don’t dedicate my entire life to reading 2 weeks worth of messages in the doom 2016 channel
It was still a weird comment to reply like that to
Final Sin’s design is a little boring but the way the Icon smashes through the buildings more than makes up for it tbh
I’m actually not that big on Exultia at least on a replay
It just feels like it drags a LOT
Yeah VEGA Core is awesome
And the reason why I don’t get people saying the 3rd act of doom 2016 is boring
The blue look for everything is very nice
I know that the first act is The UAC to Argent Tower, and that the second act begins at Kadingir Sanctum, but where does it end? Does the third act begin at Lazarus Labs?
IMO Second act ends Lazarus Labs
Especially given the presence of the Cyberdemon there
Seems fair. First is 5 levels, and second and third are 4 each
Just checked the wiki
Does anyone play doom or external on switch at all anymore? I know thats crazy talk but I am limited for a bit.
I like part with Icon of SIn for sure, but still don't like most typical ruined buildings areas. Even as a fan of F.E.A.R., lol.
Exultia feels actually pretty short for me compared to other levels that's why I replay it periodically/often (at least, if we talk about mission select replay after finishing game). Only Hell on Earth feels shorter (and Sentinel Prime). But yeah, it's not that impressive in terms of same enemies variety compared to same Suoer Gore Nest, which feels longer, but at the same time well packed with action.
I agree. I think people may say that 3rd act is boring is because you can be very well upgraded at this point and use quite OP stuff, so not many issues would be on the way. I also like Argent D'nur fights, but design of Vega is way more remarkable and last fight is favorite.
Hell on Earth > Exultia tbh because HoE's presentation is immaculate
Yeah, Hell on Earth is higher for me too for sure.
Noooo fine dining guy is gone
FINE DINING, A FINE FUCKING MESS.
Good riddance. Let's move on
Exactly that
:p
hellwalker is fucking awesome yeah
If the menu music was a person, I'd either be their best friend forever, or marry them
Yes!
Its literally my username on xbox
But with two ii instead of LL because xbox wouldn't allow two LL
HeIIwalker5921 is my user
Does the 5921 mean something or is it just your favorite number?
Still someone to help me or..
Base game or expansion ones?
Its just the number the Xbox gave me
Also, it's extremely lame how you can't have "hell" on your username. I don't consider it profanity unless you tell someone to go on a road trip to it
Yea
i just beat Olivia pierce im going to eternal
got 3 DS in a teamplay on '16, just need 1 more...
Peak
Does anyone want to play online?
Hello, im looking for the online trophies.
Id psn: pedrlcamara
wouldnt it be funny if someone ported ts to the 3ds?
No
That probably wouldn't even be possible
You could demake it I guess
Is the multiplayer still active ? Looking to get the platinum of the game
thats why it'd be funny
cuz its stupid to even port it
though, i guess you could make it possible, though hard, to play wiuth the touchscreen
MAYBE could be theoretically possible on PS Vita but then again it would be just heavily downscaled version like Switch. Earlier known screenshots of Doom 2016 suggest it was coming to PS3/X360 at one point before they switched over to next gen consoles
It did have a beta on ps3 and 360 so there was a possibility
I'm honestly down to seeing it in action but I'm yet to see anyone port id tech 5 to Vita, as for Nintendo 3DS - you'd probably have to recreate game in a different engine rather than having a direct port because it's just a bit better portable Wii performance wise
As for control scheme, i imagine it'd be identical to other consoles due to circle pad pro (or whatever it was called), without it it'd be similar to DS shooters - with touchscreen having weapons and etc as well as being able to move camera
I'm just very into handheld systems lol
After watching this video wanted to rant a bit regarding what I don't like about Eternal and why I like 2016 more, but then I understood I'm not sure what I want to rant about.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YzsL0di5gk
I know Eternal is better overall game (in at least semi-objectively graphics aspect), but I feel it's so overhyped that it just affects me in a negative way and that's my main issue, I guess.
Every time I return to it, it feels like a good game, which did some stuff better for me compared to 2016, but it's just not "omg game of the century, such a big improvement compared to 2016, can't play other shooters after it" game for me and I don't get why it can be for others.
Like compared to 2016, we have in Eternal:
- Better graphics.
- Skippable cutscenes (which to cons of 2016, than to pros of Eternal, since any game with idea of replayability should have it by default).
- Not so deadly deadly zones (teleportation and damage thing instead of insta death).
- Cooler backgrounds.
- Combat loop.
- Gore is cooler for me.
- Better enemy variety (really cool).
- More enemies in fights (cool).
- More agressive enemies and more heavy enemies (ok).
- Enemy weak spots (destructible or not) and improved idea of weakness to certain weapons.
- More bosses (2 become mini bosses).
- Dash, which is nice buff to movement (but I would prefer sprint).
- Meathook for SSG for movement and armor (I use it for armor mostly or to get closer to enemy).
- Flame belch for armor (yay), but no Holo or Siphon grenades.
- Better balance overall in my opinion with less OP stuff and more challenging progression.
- Horde Mode and Master levels. But no Arcade Mode.
- Official Modding support. But no Snapmap.
- Amount of content overall (including DLCs) and overall support for Eternal. Skins can also be added here.
And these are all cool improvements, it's a big list, but doesn't feel drastically big, especially with taking into account that 2016 has pros over Eternal too.
I Love Eternal! But if you don't, yea, I get it...
Intro - 00:00
Story - 03:07
Gameplay - 06:30
Weapons and Gear - 14:21
Progression - 18:11
Exploration - 19:04
Presentation - 22:39
Final Thoughts - 25:32
So I assume, every time I return to Eternal I become victim of that hype, because of my high expectations and get a bit dissapointed, since I get different feeling from it compared to other players.
Wonder, if someone else main issue is this, rather than other stuff in Eternal itself.
Now after this rant, I feel better and want to play Eternal a bit. 😅
at the moment, it’s not
Its kinda funny how the rocket launcher feels weak without remote detonation but still deals a shitton of self damage especially on nightmare
Can someone explain to me why I don't have the 'Closed Circle' achievement but I have IDDQD (I have all runes at the maximum level)?
You probably used level select for it. That invalidates it for some reason
Thanks
I'd say it depends on day and time
There's a bug that basically prevents two achievements on Advanced Research Complex
so you'd have to make a whole new campaign to 100% prob
and dont use level select
i hate doom eternal too so i'll check out all of these points of what's "better" about DE. I have not watched the video, I'm just going based off of your bullet points. I like ranting too ❤️
- Better Graphics | I personally would NOT say Eternal has better graphics. Eternal was an eyesore for me the whole time that I played it. In my opinion, I'd say 2016 looks way better in almost every aspect. But it's really subjective which one a person believes looks better.
- Skippable Cutscenes | DOOM 2016 didn't really need skippable cutscenes, since most cutscenes were pretty short. It would have been convenient to have skippable cutscenes for some of the slightly longer ones though.
- Not-So-Deadly Deadly Zones | Yeah the teleportation instead of instant death when falling into the void or other was a bit more convenient. I'll give that to Eternal, but it's nothing major.
- Backgrounds | Customizable menu backgrounds? Yeah that's pretty cool to have, but not really a necessity since I'm typically not staring at the menu for very long. Still I'll give that to Eternal just as a fun feature.
- Combat Loop | Combat loop in Eternal is NOT objectively better. They're both very good in 2016 and Eternal, and it all comes down to personal preference. I prefer 2016's.
- Gore | I think Eternal had slightly more dynamic on-body gore, but besides that I don't recall much of a difference between Eternal and 2016 when it came to demon gore.
- Enemy Variety | Yeah there's more enemies in Eternal. I think it's only fair that a sequel reuses enemies from the first game, then adds on with more. Eternal does good with adding more enemies, but I don't like how sometimes people act as if 2016 had a lack of enemies. The enemy roster was pretty well rounded and worked great for the game.
Giant Text Wall Alert!!!!!! 🚨 🤓
The Official Mod support was soooo late to be added. The idStudio for DOOM Eternal is quite literally I think hundreds of gigabytes. It's not what I would consider accessible for people who want to make Mods.
SnapMap was very user accessible and surprisingly easy to learn, despite all of its flaws. I mean if it continued to get updates, it'd be a masterpiece for sure. It's already relatively good.
Battlemode wasn't really that great imo. I just didn't find it nearly as fun as 2016's MP. I never tried the Master Levels or Horde Mode, I didn't think I'd be into those either.
Thanks for detailed reply! 👍
I wouldn't say I hate Eternal - more like don't like some things.
Yeah, ratings are fun! 😄 🎉
- I mean, textures look better and more detailed, overall. Also there is new Ray Tracing feature with reflections. In visual style it's subjective for sure and I like both: cleaner huge and epic Eternal and more compact dark misty and atmospheric 2016.
- As someone who has almost 3000 hours due to modding I highly disagree, but I should've mentioned that I counted dialogues towards cutscenes too. Starting cutscenes are really long, Res Ops final dialogue is long, long dialogue in Research Complex and there are here and there dialogues/cutscenes in between. If to replay it, it takes a lot of time. I'm glad that Arcade mode has few shortcuts for that.
- Glad we agree regarding deadly zones.)
- I meant in-game backgrounds, my bad. Like all this bigger than life things where robots fight Titans, huge buildings, destroyed Earth. Non-playable area. But yeah, backgrounds for menu are nice too, same as skins for Slayer (would be cool, if skins for enemies would work in SP too).
- I wouldn't say anything outside of graphics is even semi-objectively better (most of the stuff I mention is either quality of life things or more content). I think that combat loop is better in Eternal because of better integration of chainsaw and new tools like flame belch, dash, meathook for SSG and balance of other tools. Sure, it's matter of preference, but for me both miss a bit, but both are good in their own way and I just find Eternal more closer to sweet spot for me.
- Yeah, enemies more destructible in Eternal and their wounds less hidden by blood like in 2016 + GKs with blade look more brutal. But same 2016 has own flavor and pros for me in this aspect: it's really bloody and GKs are more based on DoomSlayer physical force.
- Agree here too. 2016 indeed had well rounded roster, so Eternal improved it even more. Though my main issue with 2016 is lack of enemies in battle compared to Eternal. Eternal feels too crowded sometimes in small arenas, wihle 2016 feels lackluster sometimes in this especially with stronger tools in 2016. Also I'm a bit salty that 2016 had Harvester and Prowler only for MP (T0y0ta added Harvester for mods, thankfully).
- I mean it's still support and it feels still more handy than Notepad only + some tools to work with textures. Yeah, SnapMaps look cool, but also feel more niche for some reason. I mean you can't even upload to mods websites as far as I understand.
- Can't tell anything regarding MP since don't play it. I played 2016 with bots, though and it was fun. I liked Master Levels and Horde Mode in Eternal, since it grants second life to levels with new approach.
I'm currently crowned President of DEHC (doom eternal hate club) in another DOOM server as a joke, but there's some truth to it since I really dislike the game compared to 2016. It's a bit more of a personal vendetta against DE, so for the most part I don't mind if anyone prefers Eternal over 2016.
With that said though, I do do my best to convince people of why I prefer 2016 so much, so don't mind if I seem a little too extra when it comes to giving Eternal critique 😭
These points all seem pretty fair, though I'm gonna circle back on a few of them:
-
I haven't played Eternal in a very long time, but I could tell you I didn't find much of a notable difference between the detailing of the textures of the two games. If I ever play Eternal again, I'll try looking more closely at the textures. Overall though, it's one of those differences that seems so minor that it's not really significant enough to bring up as a key reason for Eternal to be considered better, if that makes sense. In my opinion, larger and more detailed textures get to a point where its unnecessary, and simply takes up more storage. Nonetheless DOOM 2016 looks absolutely gorgeous, and Doom Eternal looks rather good too, especially with how well optimized it is.
-
Yes! I count those "real-time" cutscenes/dialogue as well. It definitely would've been helpful to have a built-in skip option, like in Eternal. I've personally replayed the campaign of 2016 a fair amount of times, and I guess I've only minded the longer unskippable cutscenes a little bit. Still, it'd be convenient to have.
- Ohhh yes the in-game "backgrounds." I think Eternal had some investing background events. It made it feel more alive. What's funny is that I think it's rather fitting that 2016's backgrounds aren't all as much so. Eternal's world was more chaotic and lively, but there was lots of emphasis on 2016's world being empty and dead. Only in those missions with emphasis on the lively environment was there a lively background
So world-building wise, both of the games background's actually worked very well. But I will give it to Eternal that those background events were very entertaining
- Most SnapMaps probably feel niche because of many reasons. Lots of maps were pretty half-assed and felt similar to hundreds of other maps, we call those SlapMaps. The reason for that goes back to what I said about how easy it is for anybody to try SnapMap, lots of people would try their hand at it and not invest as much time as is for some of the much better maps. Either that or they hadn't yet learned all of the tricks to make a SnapMap unique.
On top of that though, SnapMap got abandoned by updates after only a while. Kind of means that all of the features that could make SnapMap even better won't ever be added. At least with SnapHak--(a mod meant to open the full potential of SnapMap you could maybe say), a lot more is possible, and breakthroughs are still being made.
Yappathon 🔥
Anyway Eternal does have plenty of features and mechanics that could be considered better than what's in 2016.
All of which I couldn't care less only because my biggest problem with Eternal is the comically bad story, but that seems to be something nobody is really interested in hearing about anyway so I won't elaborate on that
But that's js me being closed-minded... 🥀

Given that I was in Mission Select, I have to start the mission over.
Its okay bud
FIRST MESSAGE IN DOOM 2016 OF OCTOBER!
For someone who has President status of DEHC you have very reasonable and acceptable opinions for DE, which is really cool. 😄
I do prefer 2016 way more too and it's probably among my favorite games, even with all the cons I see.
- It's not super noticable with objects or especially with monsters (I may even argue that monsters in 2016 look better with shiny, glowing and smoke effects), but with surfaces it can be quite noticeable, but generally I agree.
- Agree.)
- Agree mostly, but I would also like to see more chaos happening on Mars and Hell areas be more filled, be bigger and feel closer to something like start of Nekravol, lol. Argent D'nur and Kadingir feel like very compact areas due to them being all restricted in terms of view. Titan's Realm has cool start with that Titan skull, but othetwise it's just big dungeon made from small rooms and corridors and Necropolis is small short dungeon in general.
- Fair regarding SnapMaps, but also as said - it would be cool to upload them somewhere else, like we do with mods to have better ability for promotion/showcase. Also most of the maps look alike, since they are usually indoors maps with same assets, square small rooms and a lot of doors between. But I saw few quite impressive maps too.
Fair too regarding preferences - we all have them afterall. I stopped to care much about D16/Eternal story after I played both few times, but I found both interesting back then. D16 generally feels like sci-fi with mix of action and even horror, while DE more like action sci-fi fantasy or something. But I'm ok with both currently.
I don't think not liking something makes anyone closed-minded - we all have preferences in games and other types of art.
I also liked D16 and Eternal's stories at first but now I don't really care about them as much. They feel a bit convoluted. I think the best DOOM story we've had so far is the 2005 movie but that's a spicy take
I think 2016's story was pretty coherent and I still enjoy it but Eternal's is kinda naff
Yep, I found a bug that prevents progress on the Switch 2. Because the game crashed at the exact same spot on the second attempt.
On the part where the mandatory Argent Energy emerges (or doesn't if you already have it) at Resource Operations, the game crashes on Switch 2. Given that I was on Mission Select, I already have it. But a fix will be necessary for this issue or else progress is impossible.
People who think this game has the best enemy models ⬇️
Hay who wonts to grind Doom 2016 multiplayer PC.
Was this a good spot to report this? Or do I need to report the issue to someone?
I'm down
I'm looking for people to and get help from with the multiplayer achievements.
same
Try Bethesda Support maybe. I'm not sure they can do much since Id doesn't update the game anymore, but they might look into it if it's a Switch 2 problem
it 100% does wyem
- I loooooooove the surface in Titan's Realm. I really wish we got to see more of that, it was only one area. I agree Argent D'Nur feels rather compact, and most of Hell does as well. Kadingir Sanctum was the only primarily outdoor Hell mission, which I'd personally say did feel a little bit compact at times for being outdoors, but overall it was a good mix between open and enclosed. Either way, all of the Hell missions looked wonderful.
Dark ages is my fav
I love the Vagary design
Reminds me of the cyber demon
But 2016's is my sec fav when it comes to enemy designs
I think it has higher poly's than eternal's but not sure
Oh and the eddie hall imps
So metal
But then you have the 2016 hell knight
Horrifying
Zombies look real good in this game too
Unwilling are the best zombies
So ye it's an even mix
Yeah SnapMap had a very limited prop and FX selection, which made lots of it seem repetitive. The modules had a very good selection, but the issue is that they'd always feel the same after playing enough Maps. Unless the modules were wonderfully and uniquelly decorated and used, it'd seem the same as other maps that use the same modules.
There are good fixes for this though. SnapHak allows usage of campaign/MP props, FX, and sounds in SnapMap, which makes everything feel a lot less limited in terms of decoration and atmosphere. Custom geometry--building entire areas from scratch with Blocking Volumes and props/scaled props--helps make every section in a map feel unique. The issues are that of verticality since demons can (mostly) only navigate the floor, and that of time consumption.
Imagine if you could customize your own demon in snapmap
I thought the Eternal HellKnights just looked basic and strange compared to the 2016 ones
You can sort of
I've seen it possible on pc
But in console it's straight up impossible
Prob cuz they have eyes
Yeah mods like SnapHak aren't available for console, but that's a given
The eyes and the colour pallet were just 💔
But what I mean is that you can customize a demon's body, stats, color, head shape
Like imagine you have the option to change a baron's head to have no eyes, or be the classic varation
Have no horns, or a bunch of horns
Be really fast or really slow
You can already customize Health and Damage by default.
With SnapHak you can also customize size, texture, model (sort of), and attachments
And some other stats like animation speed
Like 2d Baron?
Oh the original Hell Knight species
Ye
You can try. I was making a Cyber-Knight
Wait so can you make a really big zombie
No it's old, but there aren't assets to make it look exactly like a classic Knight. Someone has probably tried to some extent, but you can't make it super accurate. You'd have to just take some creative liberties
Oof
They should have a go at making a full fledged creative mode like snap map again
But with more extensive options for customizability
They probably won't because of idStudio
Yeah
Lol is there a vid of this
I don't have any good screenshots of my Cyber-Knight so I'll have to send one later
Spiral of Amnesia uses a scaled Unwilling as the main enemy
Yeah I shouldn't call myself close-minded for not liking Eternal, especially considering I used to be a fan of the game until eventually I started to notice all of the issues I had with it. It took time, but I realized how much more I liked 2016.
Eternal's whole story just seems like a mix of unnecessary powerscaling and writing with no real focus.
I couldn't even tell who was meant to be the main villain in Eternal. The Cultists? The Maykrs? The Icon of Sin?
The Maykers
It was hard to tell. I guess the Cultists were working for the Maykrs
The Maykrs are who release the Icon, and aid the cultists
They have more presence than the cultists too
Reported the issue to both Bethesda Support and Nintendo Support.
One of them will hopefully do something. Maybe Nintendo
I can't even remember what mission the Maykrs were first introduced in. Did the first Cultist say something about them when you kill him?
Usually it's best for the first villain/conflict to be introduced in any story to be the main villain/conflict, and not a third-party/side antagonist
The first mission
Khan Mayker reminds you that you were supposed to be the leader of her faction
Which is further enforced in Dark ages
As you see him being mind controlled
But that's further context so we don't count that rn
that happened? 😭 i might need to replay Eternal cause i can't remember anything
all i remembered was the corny cutscenes and eyesore color coding
Idk try playing it again
Read the lore, ask m0no some questions
It's interesting stuff
i wanted to a few months ago, but the 90gb install turrned me off
to play a game just to remember why i dislike it
Not gonna read the lore unless I like the main plot, which I don't seem to
But not from Midnight
Well you can ask m0no on what you don't understand
Maybe I could try watching a full gameplay. It wouldn't be as useful but I could try
I will when I refresh on the main plot
Whatever you deem necessary
Well I liked 2016's more too
But Eternal wasn't like a bunch of jargon to me
It has more interesting world building going on
But execution is uhhhh lacking
2016 had fantastic worldbuilding
such good stuff
perfect example of when i say "doom eternal and doom dark ages just felt like unnecessary power scaling"
Well ye they introduce a lot of powerful factions
So you fight really cool enemies
Lookin forward to fighting the high council in the dark ages dlc
Cuz that's really likely
"Today we're gonna turn previous characters into gods purely for shock value and power scaling"
Vega, well smt was clearly different abt Vega, and its arcane nature
Samuel Hayden? That was bad
Not meant to be the Seraphim at all
The Doom slayer is not really a god
That's all the character turned god I can think of really
Or "god-like"
Vega was definitely hiding something... but I don't know about being God. Could've done something else
Sammy being anything but a cyborg was just bad though. They literally retconned 2016 in several different ways for like no reason
Ye I can understand that
Doom Guy being a superhuman was already established, so yeah that's fine. Not sure I liked the whole "Divinity Machine" concept, but the Sentinels getting expanded lore was alright. I didn't play TAG so I don't know much, only some of what's important
What do you even do after fighting the creator of the universe? Not really any good way to write a villain after that, unless you do a prequel... [Dark Ages Title Card]
The Maykrs are still alive
So is Samuel
Yeah but realistically it's not a great decision to write the least grounded and existential villain/conflict possible, because fighting anything less than that afterwards is just uninteresting.
That's just what we can predict for now
I don't see them doing an eternal sequel
Just sequels to dark ages
Maybe a sequel to 2016 where not every detail from the game gets retconned, and we can see:
- How Doomguy got out of Hell
- How Vega got brought back
- And how like literally everything else happened
Before Eternal
From Hell, duh
We don't know where he went
Yes. Was that explained in lore?
Uh
We can assume with the evidence given he was sent back to Hell
Samuel put him in a tether, which means to Hell
Probably because Samuel didnt want him messing anything up
But he was already in Hell when he killed the Spider Mastermind, right?
He can retrieve the fortress of Doom
I was somewhat sarcastic about the 2016 sequel, they'll just mess it up more
Samuel brought him back to Mars (with the tether) then sent him back to Hell (with the tether)

Oh-
I didnt realise that tbh
y'all gonna crumble to bits when Expedition Black Delta is released. it's gonna be sooooooo tough for sure for sure
The what
it's a snapmap im making 🥰
hopefully some other people will record playing it cause im too lazy
yes all snapmaps are
Sweet
i think i can send a video link here maybe
Sure
Here is our first look at my upcoming custom level "Expedition: Black Delta"
Stay tuned for more sneak peaks, and perhaps development logs if I decide to make any.

literally the only public teaser of the map i have
i might send screenshots in #screenshots
That's like the intro room
i have to send 2 SS at a time so give me a sec
i'll just send four
I had more done before, but I decided to take it back a bit and revamp the entire scenery and layout, and I also ended up completely deleting an area that took me five or six hours to make
It's long since I make everything by hand, I don't use modules
I guess at some point you changed it up so much you had to rethink the entire thing
Five or six hours just to make the layout and scenery, didn't get to gameplay yet
I think gameplay should come first
You know those dev rooms
Where it's like all white
And has the general layout
Yeah sort of. I've been really thinking on what to make the next area look like. The first area I just revamped only ambience and scenery-wise, it still functions the same
I made a demo for the next area, but I'm gonna delete it and start from scratch with the same concept in mind. I guess I could show a screenshot of the demo area too
Ye sure
Can't really do that since I don't wanna make combat encounters in a blank room. The combat has to be built inside of an area, not the other way around, if you get what I mean
Ye I get it but there's the possibility you make an arena too cramped or janky to play in
But it looks real cool
And boom 5 hrs down the drain
But ye this is some cool stuff
Maybe three hours to make the area I just sent, but it's a different area than the one I took five or six before
Yeah support for imported assets would be interesting. There is such a concept as Custom Music in SnapMap, but I don't try it since it's lengthy and complicated
And again, would be awesome if that was more accessible
It's why classic doom never dies
Like ever
Does classic Doom have mods and modded maps for console?
Yes in the Doom 1 and 2 remaster
To clarify, you can't make your own maps on console
And Gzdoom isn't supported
Buuuuut there's a wide selection of really good wads
And I think most doomers like the more vanilla stuff anyway
What made SnapMap considerably accessible is that not only is it built into the game, but anybody on any console can make their own maps because of that.
I wonder if I can forward messages here
Ye not arguing that
I wanna show one of Surkea's custom music clips
But what you can make is kinda basic
You need SnapHak to even remotely make a unique experience from the base game
Which classic mods are night and day better than the base game
Custom enemies, music, textures, layouts, guns, slots
You can still make a fairly unique experience, SnapHak just opens up way more possibilities.
Campaign/MP assets are totally usable for console. That means sounds, props, and effects from the two can be used on console in SnapMap
Ye but they all bleed together really
Not to mention how it never gained the big following it should
I like SnapMap because I just never expected it to be some sort of hyper advanced level editor
I like it's accessibility yeah
I made like 7 maps myself
But you're fairly limited
It's a good concept that should've been expanded
It has its limitations, but it's still very good in many aspects. Shame it never got more updates, it literally could've been as good or better than classic Doom wads
It had potential for that... Id is never going to come back to it
Well ye
All id has done to doom was the April Patch which literally did nothing but break LegacyMod
And you can't really blame them considering the amt of ppl who actually played and invested lots of considerable time, which is not many compared to the whole fanbase
They don't have infinite resources
Same reason why multiplayer was axed
10 years of having your side modes called mid and being expected to improve on your campaign, your gonna have to choose one or the other
idStudio toooootally gonna have way more people using it (inaccessible to probably 50% or more of the fanbase)
But I do get what you mean
I mean tbh it's super hard to stand out as a multiplayer FPS game nowadays
Not talking abt idstudio
Don't care for it
They put resources into idStudio is what I mean though
Ye over like 5 years
You either need to have batshit insane mechanics, or be free. id Software has been doing almost the same exact multiplayer since 1993 so it was same old same old
And not many ppl play it either
Wolfenstein ET was new and free which is why it busted nuts. Very good game
So safe to assume they abandon future idstudio stuff
I just don't see dark ages being modded a ton
And future titles
True honestly. TBF the game is ten years old, so not sure if "nowadays" still counts but I can see the same issue with back then. The more popular MPFPS were vastly different
I think the most fun multiplayer is the co-op experience
If they had a co-op horde mode ppl would eat that up
Hop on with your boys and survive as long as you can
Needed a DOOM 2016 co-op experience really bad so I started making one in SnapMap... which failed pretty bad the first time, but I'm determined to try again
Ye you can do that in snapmap no?
But is it still up and running
Does anyone even play lol
Yes. Biggest issue is nobody plays SnapMap enough anymore for MP, but if you can convince a friend then youre all good
See this is what I mean
I really like co-op modes that have you running through the singleplayer campaign together but that is quite hard to do with modern campaigns I imagine
"I want multiplayer I want multiplayer!!!!!" But then they never play
The community is the issue(the wider community)
I was making a co-op campaign from scratch before. I'm doing basically the same again
literally
snapmap community is already pretty small rn, and even smaller in the discord community of snapmap, so communicating with people to play co-op can be tedious
js throwing that out there
They would have to rebalance the whole campaign tho, which is why I was thinking of a shorter horde mode
Plus no cutscenes
And no immersion broken
Tbh I am pretty sure the people who want DOOM MP are the louder minority. If you like id Software's franchises and you like MP experiences then there is pretty much no reason to look to DOOM over Quake
I need more games with co-op campaigns.
And I don't mean multiplayer compatibility with the singleplayer campaign... No I literally mean campaigns made from scratch specifically for co-op. Like Portal 2! However it takes a lot of resources to do that I bet
Ye they would be the minority
They wouldn't have to, look at Classic DOOM for example. Shit gets broken easily in MP but that's part of the fun
Ye but the gap between say classic doom and dark ages is really big
Much more gears are in play
Optimization and allat
How maps load, how demon ai work
Yeah its like comparing GMOD and CS2
It's just easier to focus on a smaller mode soly for combat
One's fun is based off of ragged chaos, the other is meant to be more uhhh... like well made
Yeah no I know these games are wildly different but I'm just saying broken stuff is still fun
But it should be hard aswell
Nooo not always.
And it takes a ton of resources
I wouldn't consider soft-locks or achievement preventions as fun.
Some broken stuff is fun
Maybe it's just me then but figuring out how to break stuff is a favorite of mine
Imagine doing allat and your game breaks instantly
