You also don't need to upgrade the runes to make them viable. And there's not as many because the ones from 2016 that weren't optimal were rebalanced and turned into unlockable perks.

Although I wished you could equip the chainsaw and rev it like you could in this game. It does nothing but looks cool.

this gaem gets way better once you get the double jump and rocket launcher, just i would have only preferred to have a weapon that can one-shoot minimos, the shotgun feels so ass even with the mod of the grenade because you have to wait to charge, really slow me down

The shotgun really does suck. I'm replaying the early levels right now and the effective range, shot speed, (centered viewmodel) animation and even the sound are just so underwhelming.

Of course damage wise it's a fart in the wind but I don't need to mention that.

yeah the normal shot of the shotgun is ass in eternal too, but stickies can one-shot minions, you can shoot 3 of them in a row and i think they last less time to reload than the shotgun of d16 with the grenade laucnher mod, you can only shot one with it, atleast from the beginning

What we got is a lot better than what we could have gotten. If Doom 4 ever saw the light of day I'd assume it'd have the same reception as RAGE when it released. It was cool and looked pretty, but was very.. flat in terms of gameplay and general enjoyability of the game. Especially with flipped / reversed levels.

While I think Doom 4 is an interesting part of Doom's history, that being there's not that much known about it outside of I think like 12 mins total of gameplay footage(?), it's an anomaly that's best left to speculation rather than an interactive outcome.

I personally like to think that when he's pursuing Olivia Pierce and his system objective says he needs to kill her, he doesn't really want to because his moral compass is really only comfortable killing demons. He had a few opportunities to snipe her with the heavy cannon or something but chose not to.

Idk about Mayo’s rules here so I made my own, based on his rules from Eternal

For weapons, every weapon can be used except for the BFG (but I still allow myself that one shot in the room after you fall down the shaft because it’s fun, and you’re not missing out on a combat encounter because of it)
As for weapon mods, Explosive Shot, Tactical Scope, Stun Bomb, Lock-On Rockets, Precision Bolt and Siege Mode, as we all as the charged pistol shot are all banned. For Micro Missiles, ammo efficiency is banned and so is expanded threshold for Heat Blast, since a maxed out Heat Blast is akin to a mini-BFG. Neither mod on the Gauss Cannon is allowed since Precision Bolt doesn’t fit the “in-your face” challenge that is Brawler Mode, and Siege Mode breaks the game overs its knee. Lock-On Rockets are also banned.

Also, the Fast Reload for the SSG is banned, meaning the Mastery isn’t an option

As for Runes, Ammo Boost, Equipment Boost and Rich Get Richer are banned, while every other Rune is fair game. Also, every Praetor Suit point is fair game, but the only Equipment you can use is Frag Grenades. Holograms and Siphon Grenades are banned.

And lastly for Argent Cells, this would depend on the difficulty. If you’re playing on anything lower than Ultra-Nightmare, Health will cap out at 150, while Armor caps out at 100. Ammo is not allowed to be increased, meaning the Chainsaw will not be able to kill anything stronger than a Hell Knight instantly.

If you’re playing on UN, and god rest your soul if you are, Health and Armor, is allowed to be maxed out via Argent Cells

How do these rules sound? Fair enough, or too lenient? Idk much about making challenge runs so, let me know

It’s a challenge run of Doom 2016 based on someone else’s challenge run of Doom Eternal, where the goal is to encourage more close Quarters engagements and tighten the combat loop a bit

Anyone who’s played 2016 for long enough can tell you that the game can be broken easily with the right combo of runes and masteries

Legit, once you get the setup, you can spam BFG, Siege Mode and SSG through the rest of the game

This challenge ruleset is made to discourage that sort of mindset, encourage more weapon swapping and staying mobile

Since SSG Mastery is banned, you can’t double blast the gun into a demon, but you can fire it, then swap to the Mastered Charged Burst Combat Shotgun, and pump the enemy with five shells worth of ammo in rapid succession. Or use the basic Gauss Cannon, since there’s no Weakpoint system like in Eternal

I think any challenge rules fit as long as you like them. 🤷‍♂️ I personally played with different restrictions, including no upgrades, no mods, no runes. The only one I still didn't do from what I wanted is Pistol only run, but I got bored when I tried it, so not sure I want it.

I actually like how weapons are given in 2016 compared to Eternal. Also I like that most of them are optional (with exception to Pistol, Shotgun and BFG?). Especially I like that some can be obtained earlier, if to search for secrets.
Main thing I didn't like about 2016 is low amount of enemies and compared to Eternal - deadly platforming areas. Also I wasn't sure about implementation of chainsaw in 2016 and Eternal - I prefer mixed version of both.
I also like 2016 map design a bit more, since some maps allow to choose, where to go at least in the beggining of a game, while Eternal feels like very long corridor made from arenas. But I'm 50/50 regarding natural ability to return to some areas in 2016, since it depends from level to level, while in Eternal we have way more handy ability to teleport to previous areas, when we finish level.

Sorry, I don't know what "mod in" means. You need to install latest DoomModLoader program and that's bassically it. Throw zip file with desired mod into mods folder and play.
Yes, you can keep your progression, since master levels are modded original levels, rather than separate levels.

Never played the mode, but given your options, MM, Turret Mode and the Plasma Rifle seem like your best choices. Shoot her face for better damage. Be careful during her plasma ground attacks. She’ll either throw a pillar at you, or spike the pillars you’re standing on towards the end of the attack. If either of those hit you, you’re as good as dead. Only real danger about her fight tbh.

Other than that, just like any normal UN run, practice the fight on a different save to get used to her patterns.

I practiced the Spider Mastermind fight with my Brawler Mode ruleset and I think I’ll be fine during the actual battle, so long as I play carefully

The real issue would be the final fight in the Vega Core

The fight is a doozy with the limited ammo and trying to pick priority targets always feels tough when it seems every demon is there

Two Barons, two Cacodemons, a Revenant and three Lost Souls to start

Then once you start whittling them down, Pinkies, Mancubi, and more Cacodemons roll in with a shit ton of Imps

The layout of the room doesn’t really lend itself well to Brawler Mode either, seems more built for long range engagements

2016's suit is a fine design, the only problem I find with it is the Slayer looks emaciated in it. His standing pose in the codex gives off 'mom said it's my turn on the Xbox' vibes lol.

Overall I found 2016 emphasized the grandiosity of the suit a little too much for my taste and made Doomguy feel less like a human who's just really strong and more like he depended on it for every minute task, like Master Chief.

VEGA going 'here I'll install a combat tracker for optional challenges' (kind of a goofy choice in a game that takes itself so seriously but okay, mind explaining why the chainsaw gives you ammo then?) and Hayden being able to take direct control of it and restrain you also made it feel more like a hindrance than anything. It didn't really feel like it belonged to you or was built to help in any way. Hell it would make more sense for it to be made by Hayden considering his true nature.

I much prefer how it is in Eternal where it's less sci-fi power armor and more of a tool strictly meant FOR the player, an extension/compliment of the Slayer's brute strength, and how understated and nonchalantly it's introduced despite its otherworldly nature. It's clearly Sentinel tech but Doomguy doesn't give a shit. He wears it because it grants him more freedom.

I feel like comparing 2016 and Eternal most of the time boils down to people not realising that both games are very different with different approaches to story exploration, the combat loop etc. When judging 2016 and Eternal a lot of people point out the things that are different in either of the games as flaws, when in actuality it's what makes the game stand on it's own, instead of being the kind of sequel that's just "Here's more of the exact same thing" which can be boring and repetitive. When Eternal came out many people tried playing it the same way they did DOOM 2016 and had a bad time with the game because of that. It's the same how now some people will play Eternal first and after that will find 2016's pace and approach to combat "too slow" because they're not used to it. I'm sure the same thing will happen when Dark Ages comes out - people will see it's slower and already dismiss the new mechanics, complaining that it's not an exact copy of Eternal. My point is that each entry in the series has it's own strengths and weaknesses. They're all different in their own way and that's what makes them special and sets them apart from one another.
