I guess in this case you could make it your headcanon that the UAC naming their own project cyberdemon forced them to have to rename the pre-existing Cyberdemons from the classic dooms into Tyrants after they re-emerged in doom eternal

I mean it’s pretty clear there supposed to be the same demon and it’s a fun thing to think about that Tyrant survived for so long

Far as evolutionary progression goes, the Hell Razer was basically a fully converted version of the Possessed Soldier. Maybe the parasites used to make Hell Razers have been wiped out?

Or they have a much longer gestation period now to fully convert a host and we just don’t find anymore Possessed Soldiers that have completed the conversion process.

Might also explain the push towards more cybernetic augmentation, as the Hell Priests wanted to push out new troops faster and faster than what Hell was naturally producing.

Hell's always been toying with cybernetic augmentation, but their own grasp on it is primitive.

We see two different kinds of this - "native" cyborgs, and UAC-made cyborgs.

The original Spiderdemon from Doom 1993 is an example of this. Fuckin' thing's got metal Lincoln Logs for legs, and all it can really do is fire a normal chaingun.

But when Hell starts using UAC tech, and having UAC staff lead development, we get far more advanced cyborg demons like Carcasses and Dread Knights.

You can combine both. Use BFG direct hit to staggger and other weapons to apply more damage during stagger. I saw long ago there was a cheese tactic to shoot BFG projectile near target and then use weapon wheel to slow down time, which drains enemy health and kills Cyberdemon with 1 shot, but I don't know, if it still works.

You can basically restore to nearly full health and armor in Eternal at most/nearly any given time

Also the CHAINGUN ENERGY SHIELD. Which is basically God mode, and dashing with the Shield active has a really busted shield bash that hard falters any demon type.

2016 Nightmare imp fireballs are ridiculous.

2016 Nightmare Baron fireballs, ground slams, and melees are also very hard to avoid and are really good at leading their attacks and reading your movement

And Barons will basically one shot you with any of their attacks. Same for imps.

Basically, while the fire button is held, have a repeater rapidly signal Save Player Restore Point then Load Player Restore Point, in that order. By doing this, you are able to constantly reset the player's weapon while preserving your ammo usage. The fastest interval you can run the repeater depends on the weapon's swap animation time.

Usually for Summoner Rocket Launcher with Lock On. Revenants are mid-tier enemies so any weapon of you choice for specific situation (stronger/faster better). Mancubus - stronger and faster, since high-tier.

In vanilla? Yeah, I used it to kill strong enemies only. In my mod it's a bit more needed on higher difficulties, so I use it periodically, but still there are not many enemies to run out of ammo. Currently working on maps mod to change that.

Their fireballs are even more deadly.

I like 2016's lack of survivability. It creates a lot more tension and dramatic and "oh shit" moments.

A lot more "how TF did I survive that?", and a lot more memorable close call moments.

Eternal's overpowered survivability and mobility options makes it so it feels kinda auto pilot and you feel kinda invincible when you keep doing the combat loop well

You don't really get that in Eternal. You just get a "oh, I'm low on health and armor? I'll just press a button or two and I'll get most of it back, no big deal".

It gets kinda boring.

Guys I have a technical issue. I installed Doom for the first time and it run very welll. Then I somehow enabled HDR and on the launch the screen is dark (but the sounds are there). Then I turned off HDR and it didn't help. In fact, when I call the task manager, the game appears on the background with normal picture, but when I go back to it again it is all dark. I suppose my dedicated GPU (rts 4070 laptop) somehow messed up the brightness?

It just said the shield explodes if you shoot it with the plasma rifle enough, which is true and useful and is what i did because the heat blast on the plasma rifle is even better at taking care of shield guys but the remote detonation thing was news to me. And on my current playthrough of Doom Eternal, i found out by accident that you can kill shield guys by shooting a sticky bomb on the floor to their side

You can make weaknesses more intuitive through better visual coding, or through a catered encounter that naturally guides you into trying it out. A linear campaign structure specifically allows for that kind of thing.

For example, you could have your first encounter with a cybermancubus be in a small arena with blood punch recharge pickups.

I agree with the tutorial criticism. I liked that you had to figure out the Pinky’s weakness for yourself in 2016. Alerting the player of the weakpoint system is fine, but Eternal did kind of hold the player’s hand through it all. Figuring it out is half the fun imo.

Got it! I just wanted to point out that they are still present in 2016, but in more humble form and amounts. I have no strong position on that as long as tutorials can be switched off, since after 1st playthrough they may become annoying.

Though, customizable tutorials, where you can control how much infol will be covered seems like a good approach.

I mean, you can turn those popups off in DE, but its not like they designed the gameplay and levels to teach you without them. For a first playthrough experience, some are made more necessary than others depending on how intuitive the weaknesses just happen to be, and how worse of an experience you will have if you don't take advantage of it. Gauss, BFG, ssg, heavy assault, and rockets worked best for me. Bigger ones first. Shoot her brain or it won't do any damage. Jump up on the ledges when the floor gets crazy, jump back down and skirt the edges when the spikes come up. Stay mid-range.

Hey guys. I've been struggling to get Doom 2016 to launch. I've seen where a console window pops up before launch but that doesn't happen for me. It just goes to a blackscreen and task manager says it's not responding. I've tried all of the launch option commands and none of them have worked. My drivers and PC are up to date. I've restarted my PC, reinstalled the game. Everything. I'm at my wits end. There is no reason this game won't run. I know for a fact that my PC can run it, but here are my specs anyway:
