i lost all the progress on masteries and rune upgrades when i restarted the final mission cause i thought something was wrong

then when i tried to do some secret in Argent D'Nur it didnt count for some reason, so i restarted the mission
now all the masteries and upgrades are gone

reseting the mission resets the progress you made since that mission. Were all of your rune progress and masteries done within that single level?

I just realised that if you combine the super shotgun, rocket launcher and Gauss cannon with the explosive impact skill, you get a pretty op combo, and If you add a few shots from the bfg, you can kill || both stages of the cyberdemon|| in 30 secs.
Still trying to find better combos
There's a few things across the two games that I don't like, but I'd never say 2016 is better than Eternal
As a whole, at least. I still like the 2016 suit and plasma rifle more.
Passive blast charge is a lost luxury, but I don't miss the stun bomb
i just finished my first full playthrough of 2016 since the day before eternal released, and i gotta say it's even better than i remember!
the atmosphere is unmatched and the graphics are still even better than eternal's in a lot of areas, though i would still say eternal is the more fun game to play. 2016 combat gets old around the last four missions in my opinion.
though i would never say that either game is better than the other. they're both 10/10 masterpieces in different ways.
going back to eternal i'm missing a lot of the more open-ended level designs from 2016 like foundry and kadingr sanctum. every eternal level is very linear but that's not a bad thing. there's just a lot more exploration and openness in 2016's levels.
i'm still upset that eternal has such a large time skip between it and 2016. it's just bad writing to have so much stuff left unexplained like that. i love how over complicated and insane eternal's lore can get but it's always been a very poor decision to leave that unanswered.

It's easy to enjoy and love both games for what they provide as masterpiece doom games. I'm able to go back and forth between them with zero issues. For the most part those that can't have severe muscle memory issues
but newer Doom games are both arcade, can we agree on that? dunno why they implemented Arcade mod since everything abt the gameplay of both is pure arcade

if i did all masteries and runes before the final level, and then reached a checkpoint in that final level, and once i load that checkpoint, would that allow me to keep the masteries and runes? considrering i dont restart the mission entirely (knowing it will reset everything to before i did all masteries and runes)

i just adore snapmap. I've never seen such an under appreciated game mode. In fact it was overhated by a bunch of classic doom dudes like "wahh no mods" despite snapmap/snaphak making modding alot easier. Hope we figure out md6 soon..

In the home base you go to the slayers room with the toys and guns, go to the old computer and interact with it, you can only play doom1 if you have all the cheat codes

It is even ironic how some ppl would say get good and don't complain, since most of so-called "weapon upgrades" with the exception of a few who are interesting -I consider basically cheats
Although I am hardcore quake player since the 90s I want a slow paced action when I have to play a campaign in the Doom universe. I am working on a mod primarily to reduce the nr of monsters and make them 10x stronger, to compensate bc I want every fight to be more dramatic and go much longer; much less ammo, less weapon upgrades, grenades not magically reloading themselves, the pistol to slowly reload its energy and be the only one efficient versuys shields, and so on

I was always very passioned about doom games, but after doom2 to me with every iteration they just went worst and worst

or even q1; sp experience supposed to be unique experience but they completely lost the line on this one; anyway sorry for the rant; it is just that I found it very dissapointingly made; if I could not make the mod I would have been asking for refund. I will never play the SP campaign of D2016 in the way the devs designed it sorry for my rant once again 🙂
I modified moving speed to walkspeed by scaling option and increased walkspeed from var options since that option is nowhere to be found elsewehere

Am I the only one who prefers Doom 2016's atmosphere and setting to Doom Eternal?
The UAC Base was so immersive, the environments were incredibly well crafted, and it just seemed more...realistic. I guess it's because I'm a sucker for sci-fi. Idk, I feel like Eternal lost a lot of the appeal for me by going fully into the "fantasy" setting rather than sci-fi, as well as having more "video gamey" level design, with parkour, glowing pickups, etc.
Yeah eternal is more arcade-like. Probably a sacrifice for tuning the mechanics

That's quite a preference you have... but last I checked doom is not quake and quake is not objectively the pinnacle of how a single-player campaign should be designed, especially given that one of the main reasons the original quake had such a reduced enemy count in the first place was because 3d entities had a larger impact on performance than 2d sprites, rather than just to be a new approach to gameplay design.
If they rebooted Quake but made the gameplay like 2016/Eternal, that would be a different story, however.

I was talking abt q1 in the sense that I hop in and play any of these in DM when I want; nowhere did I made a parallel between games regarding SP gameplay regarding quake
I don't consider q1 the pinnacle of SP experience either, far from it; it was still better designed though than d2016, if you think even abt the fact that they did not copy other games ideas like "did you see the current trend with upgraded weapons and minigames for achievements? let's implement this as well"
to me it seems that devs came first with the idea of adding weapons upgrades and altfires and upgarades in general and only AFTER they realized that they have to work on the AI and the only way they were able to rapidly balance the gameplay -to some extend -was by throwing innumerable hordes of spawning all around enemies.

from what I seen on walkthroughs on D Eternal it seems to me that they adhered more to quake gothic themes -which was a big mistake in the past as well, lke John Romero observed about Quake 4 SP campaign -which apparently used mixed elements both from the doom universe and quake as well
when he complained abt q4 that you did not entirely knew if you were playing quake or doom -this is what he said, but I seen just a quote from a quote so can't say for sure
Eternal isn't like quake at all or a Gothic theme. Actually it has some of the brightest vibrant areas I've seen in a game with tons of outdoor open set peices

I love most the doom games for the things they individually being to the table. They all have faults but I feel what they do right outshines thoughs faults. I'm a giant doom fan and collector so I would be bias but I also have complaints.

See the thing is you're definitely wrong about the maps that's just facts. Not sure what you're rapidly looking at. Someone who's played the game would let you know you're way off. One thing I'd say I dislike eternal is the emphasis on pure fast motion combat where as 2016 was more grounded and I really enjoy that.
Personally not the biggest fan of super fast swaps. I play nightmare but my movement is definitely more precise and planned rather then this emphasis of twitch movement. It's okay if people like that though

I've got thousands of hours in both 2016 and eternal and you're just wrong. Doom eternals levels are all very unique and deep and one of its strongest things. If you want more “slow strategic” types of games. There are its just Doom or Quake wasnt really like that. It was more about Adapting to a situation on the fly and every encounter was unique cause you arnt always gonna die the same way. You will make mistakes or be killed by a different demon and build the knowledge to improve. Thats what your own “experience” is

you missed the point of where all started: I made the observation which John Romero said, that he was not satisfied with the artistic orientation of where idSowftware went with their newer games, and at that time it was mostly in regard to Quake4; he bragged abt the fact that newer franchises tend to become mish-mashes of both and he was probably right; although doom and quake borrowed elements from each other, hence their creators, the two still did stay pretty much on their lane; occasionally they had common assets, but were largely two completely themes; largely.
on the other hand in Doom2016 and later in Doom Eternal you also have runes, which were more pivotal to say so in Quake1, enemies using a combination of scifi and medieval weapons -like q4 had a bit and on top of it medieval/gothic elements regarding maps -not every map is that style of course but the tendency is more pronounced, this is the effect I observed; which blends further with what john romero said
and feel free to disagree than with the educated or not so history teacher who does not agree with you either -if you accept the fact that id uses gothic inspiration here and there -since I did not say that dEternal would ENTIRELY be based on this aspects

I still find artistic direction in d2016 very nice and levels monsters design -with the exception of zombies which are worst looking and acting than the ones in D3, unfortunately
and weapons are great some -with the exception of plasmagun which is still a miss in terms of firing effect and sound
but I found very dislikable the way devs worked around gameplay -and you cannot talk about pretending to be challenging in SP as long as devs put on purpose demons dropping ammo and health, nades regenerating their number on top of pickup crates -maybe they put both my mistake omitting to remove one of the two? and innumerable upgrades -which are all designed to make gameplay easier -I see them cheats basically

Probably not but it still uses more this kinda of approach than let's say Doom3 and older ones. This is the general impression it gave me after seeying many gameplay footages from the game -although I am aware that having action happening on Earth it would be normal to see some classical buildings as well; still older Doom games used mostly combinations of scifi with blocky buildings; anyway I don't care too much about DEternal and don't intend to buy it in the near future , but based on the gameplay the devs made for it, not because lvl design
Doom at the time it was made players used keyboard to move around, and many players this is the way they played, rarely using the run option ort he mouse (but id guys used it I know) -the run option was put there to help you get out of dangerous situations not to use it all time -in the beginning; the reality is that ppl learned very fast to shift for always run and became very good at the game, which kinda made the gameplay evolve or involve imo, even wold3d had fast run of course but the argument is that at the time players did not have any reason to move slow in kinda realistic manner bc art design was poor in terms of details -there was nothing to see; even strafejump seem to appear first by mistake and john carmack wanted to remove it

Well they were doing alot of research in Lazarus and resurrection of dead demons or subjects( something used on other demons in the lab) I'm guessing bringing back the last balgaar was a good way to test out resurrection further.

there's the E3 gameplay demo music in the soundbanks, so there's probably a lot of the other early version sounds too

Need to utilize jumping more, your movement is stagnant and you need to use other weapons to your advantage
here is a tip for stating a ultra nightmare run,in the first mission you can kill the possessed instantly by double tapping the glory kill button,this will give you alot of heath if your running out .Hope this helps
You usually want to stay away from glory killing on UN. That's what I'd generally recommend especially for newer players. You can get locked in animation and sniped out plus the health back isn't worth it. If you do glory kill probably best to do it later game and when you know the arena lay out better

You want to take advantage of the arena and utilize your space rather than just running up directly to enemy in a straight line and repeating that over and over. That's where other weapons come I'm handy too

2016 has lots of issues in a lot of departments. actually both games do but 2016's flaws are more aggravating

eternal's because they look like actual hell zombies with the thin bodyframe, sunken eyes and pentagram on their foreheads. doom 3 had a similar design

like I said, the decision to aim towards classic probably happened late in development
they probably thought they'd get more traction from the community if they did that
the only thing in the game that feels kenneth scott is the shotgun and some of the key art for the environments. maybe the revenant and the possessed too. the rest of it is so removed from any previous design it might as well be its own thing
but god the 2012 designs would leave me thinking "what the FUCK was that?!" if I saw them in-game
i wish they'd have gone the whole 9 yards and made the roster seem more cohesive at least at a glance
like i mentioned earlier the artstyle clashes quite often and the only designs that pull from og are half-hearted and feel devoid of charm
I'd go even further with the organic flamethrowers concept for the Mancubus and give it fleshy mouth arms like 64's Pain Elemental
also certain ones like the cyberdemon, mancubus and pinky like i mentioned just look bad imo
I've had this idea for a zombie enemy that threw grenades as an alternate attack like Half-Life 1's HECU for a little while
and design-wise it'd have multiple arms and one of the extra arms would throw the grenades
I'd say the UAC complex in general aestheticly is very similar but I guess if you disagree that's up to you. But from the devs it heavily inspired what the UAC would be in doom 2016 and its general design

they were 1:1 to release in terms of graphic fidelity and whatnot but there's little things like the thunder cracking, the green fog and the choir in the hell demo that conveyed an effective atmosphere not present in the final game. the final area in-game just has an absurd amount of cinders flying

lvl design wise it was probably a better move, not to make too claustrophobic all around maps, but from a realistic point of view lvl design maps don't have much sense -no dining rooms, no bathrooms -supposed ppl don't use these utilities on Mars anymore, I mean taking a shower would consume precious water amiright or at least some minimum utilitarian design to make the presence of a mars base credible -everything in the base is mostly metal blocks buildings build by creators in a rush to finish the game; I mean choosing the older Doom path was the easier way to develop the game
Doom 3 zombies were a lot better ideally and anthropologically speaking but they lack the destruction layers which is a recent technical innovation I think first implemented in D16; it strikes me odd why all D16 zombies are the same height and follow the same diet; probably are also all twins or clones
the hell the game does not even respect the modern cult of zombies that we see especially in movies, since they can die even faster than regular humans, one two shots and they are done; but this is not just the fault of D16 as most games also represent them as such, probably bc they would not represent much of a challenge to players from an entertainment perspective
I think you're forgetting what these one two shot weapons are. There's a difference between a 9mm pistol and a pistol that fires kinetic slugs. Also if you mean classic doom zombies both of these types are demonic possessed zombies. Probably more similar to deadites than traditional Romero zombies
well whatever the excuse of a weapon that we got, the main idea is to implement as many enemies as possible at once on the screen and be able to kill hordes of weak enemies as fast as possible ; I doubt that the devs had any kind of scifi "realism" (in the sense of staying with the scifi culture) in mind when they designed zombies; I am just looking at Summer Game Fest from last year and all I see is a damn disaster in games industry (no wonder crowds kind of stopped of showing enthusiasm for newer games): lots of shooters in scifi or horror hellish environments artistic wise nice but gameplay wise all empty Serious Sam wanna be kill 90% of enemies in one shot it is like devs decided for the last 15 years to just have kids in mind whey they make gameplay designs; which is kind of ironic since most ppl presented at their shows are mostly some sort of "adults"
zombies also dies very fast from normal bullets or shotgun shots faster than humans die irl actually; other than their behave and look their presence is anti-thetically to the so-called cinematic culture around zombies

There are values such as STAT_WEAPON_CHAINSAW_GK_KILLS and STAT_EQUIPMENT_FRAG_GRENADE_THROW_KILL that you can see in the enums list, but unsure of whether those values can be viewed or whether they reset for each time you load up the game.

you better ask for someone with steam to let you try the full game on your specs. I found a quite decent difference between D16 demo and final version -like demo did not work with vulkan support on my pc still opengl demo version gave me better fps than final version with vulkan

unless you would buy a laptop for gaming you won't have much success with this. even if it will work in the end with your laptop it will probable overheat and in due time you will have hw problems with it. did you use the +set devMode_enable command for launch option ?

Unless you want to play at absolute potato graphics (Screenshot from another game what i mean with "potato graphics") you cant get out much more of your hardware. 10-15FPS sounds horrible on lowest settings.
I really cant recommend buying the game...
With "normal console/config tweeks" you can get maybe 10-20 more FPS
But those will be shattered once you reach areas that are more demanding, especially in later levels that are way more open and have a lot more demons/action going on.
I reckon you have a better time subscribing to gamepass ultimate and play DOOM 2016 via Cloud Gaming, which would be like 12 bucks per month. But at the same time you get nice graphics, you dont need to worry if a game can run or not and you have a massive library of games to play. Even DOOM Eternal.
Only thing you need is a XBOX Controller (Or a PS4 Controller and emulate it as a XBOX Controller via DS4Windows), fairly good internet and 12 bucks per month.

||There are so many inconsistencies and errors in D16 that is really crazy. There is no way this is a finished product. In the very beginning before rip and tear animation very first second of the game you can see a frame showing the hands of the protagonist appearing from nowhere. If I am not mistaken they are already gloves on. When you pick up the suit, the panel that you throw after talking to doctor (Haynes?) will sometimes quite often as a matter of fact be transparent. Try looking through after the animation ends and you will clearly see that it is not supposed to be that way. One minute later when you pick up the shotgun from the torso of a body you open the door and shoot the first imp, the legs of the same body who lie 1 m away practically dissappear in front of your eyes. In the elevator who bring you to the surface the devs did not even bother to finish the animation when you hit the panel (you can see this if you activate weapon inspection) -this last is not really a bug but more abt how cheap they build the interaction. Abt weapons grenades you pick them from crates but then they reload like it would be some sort of energetic fuel. Map design wise second map you pick up the weapon from a secret place and 2 minutes later you find the same weapon in the progression. Like someone said on stream, "that's the gun you got at the secret tunnel (so much for thats secret, special thing lol)". When exiting the 1st map which is crash site you enter the facility, but the exist panel says "Exit the facility". Should it not say "enter the facility?" the streamer asked. 2nd map when you use the hand of a dead man to scan the hand is wearing a glove. "I don't think that this is how scanning works", said the streamer (House of Kruge). It is only the second lvl and the sh1tshow doesn't end.||

The switch is a handheld so there are going to be limitations to its hardware. It’s not an ass console just some of the games being ported to it push the hardware to its upmost limits

For the whole you get the weapon later. Why find it twice.. ya many times I've had to help people find the weapon a second time because they miss its first pick up. If you want to give your negative perspective of 2016 some legs weapon balance would be a good place to start rather than a rant about completely insignificant nit picks

dude it's not possible for there to be multiple weapons. It's like the army said about the m1 garand, "There are none other like it, and this one is mine"
People used to complain in the past ie about Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines because bugs. Maybe those were justifiable observations but this is just nitpick because it is a big budget game. Tbh I found more bugs in this game than in that critically attacked game. Putting items in secret areas and then give them on the corridor 5 minutes later is bad design. You can see things like this at every step. Yes, nitpick. And I lost 70 hours in testing the first map bc I try to mod it but I also seen a few walkthroughs. You don't need to eat a food 100 times to realize if it has bad taste. or maybe if you swallow it for long enough you might think that it is good.
It's also inconceivable that a future society with the tech to summon demons on mars would have scanning tech that works with gloves. I think that inconsistency really shows that this game just wasn't designed :(
Getting the plasma early is rather nice for a few fights. That's fine. A lot of these complaints are at worse, not problems, and at best, nowhere near any reasonable metric for how well the game plays
read more carefully. my observation was about regular grenades. which you would know if you played the game long enough. it does not have any sense to receive at every step nades if they magically teleport in your inventory -although admitedly one at a time
Gougaru def has never thrown a regular grenade in doom and using regular grenades is definitely something that you have to play a lot to use
my complains are a good metric about the general disinterest or laziness on how they build the game in its entirety
70 hours to mod? skill issue sheesh. Idk what bugs you are talking about. practically the only one that has ever negatively effected anyone is the glory kill clipping bug. getting a weapon a little early is cool. especially on ultra nightmare.

I don't like that equipment recharges because it can promote waiting. But it's not a plothole. It's just a game mechanic. There are some lore reasons but the real reason is gameplay
a good dev should realize the contradiction if they would be more busy thinking abt things they just mindless throw inside the maps, instead playing themselves for hours on end like romero did, to "get good"

equipment recharging is good omg. it lets you stay on the move and have the grenade be a consistent ability in combat. ive never heard anyone complain about being able to blow up more stuff in a video game

Doom just isn't a game particularly invested in perfect realism. Realism will always be sacrificed for the sake of gameplay -- in this case it is not even immersion breaking. Who cares if a seven year old game has some janky animations in the first scene? Does this matter at all?
I dislike it for the same reason as recharging health in other games. It does promote waiting. But for a more minor feature like equipment, it doesn't really harm the gameplay too much to have it recharge instead of be earned like health is. It certainly is not a plothole, contradiction, or evidence of laziness.\
Basically, if an ability takes longer than a few seconds to recharge, it should instead be recharged by engaging in the combat ie killing enemies

Equipment was the most forgettable part of 2016 for me. The grenade has the splash damage of a fart and is borderline useless. The Siphon is slightly better but glory killing and with upgrades later on reap better health benefits. I forgot I had the hologram for 90% of the game
my additional arguments and explanations were abt the fact that I dont see a finished or polished product and that all small errors combined show a lack of enough interest on the part of the devs abt the game
So to summarize are you saying that the devs didn’t care about 2016 because of the broken gameplay

gameplay is exactly like this: open door x-animation for opening door -despawn enemies left behind -next room 3 imps spawn one 15 degree left to you the other two 45 degrees right at 89 units, make a few runs kill them walk forward 400 units -boom teleport noise, 1 hellknight spawning at 36 degree right 325 units from you and two imps on the upper platform at 30 degrees upward it is script after script after script after script. At least Doom 1 and 2 (considered inferior to D16 I guess?) dropped half of the monsters from the very beginning on the map and you had more time to calculate your approach. when they implemented teleporting monsters in the past it was to trap the player and scary him, but use same gimmick with every room one after another after another after another after another and you get what?? addictive gameplay? yes, you cannot convince me that in the end this is bad gameplay design. D16 have great animations and visuals and sound and detailed maps and well made weapons inspired from Doom 1 and 2. The engine is good on par with modern engines. But bad gameplay. Childish, terrible, horrendous. I suspect if ppl would encounter a game without the staple of Doom on it and lack everything I mentioned as good but having D16 gameplay, they would not give 2 cents on it. teleport after teleport after teleport after teleport after teleport after teleport. what can I say? this is genius gameplay design, nothing more

Absolutely. They did a good job there. I really enjoy enemy weakpoints. Love to see more of that
also none of the weapon Masteries fuck up the gameplay loop hard like the SSG's did in 2016

They spawn each time in the same place no replayability unless you just want to memorize all spawn positions for speedrun. Randomizing non essential items' position and monsters would have been so much better. Anyway which are in your opinion the best 3 favourite maps in the campaign? I think that the best maps are first intro- crash site, foundry and any hell map. The rest is just forgettable.

I agree that they look nice but they do not come out in the open with anything different from one another. By contrast intro is a bit of intro interiors then open areas the first time you actually walk on the surface of Mars in this game, does have an impact like every game's first map, foundry is mostly interiors, I like the fact that they added one very big hall in the center, and hell is again something completely different. Second map is a bit interesting bc they focused more on secret corridors but I don't see it particularly unique. The rest might be nice but are not memorable. I asked bc I am moding the campaign to make maps fun and different and gameplay closer to what they shown at E3 and it would be too much of a hassle to remove billions of scripts on maps which are kind of repetitive in terms of artistic direction (kind of less is more approach).
