note you have to rechange the pm walkspeed each level you get into

you could also just look up how to bind a key to pm_walkspeed command so each next level you get to will trigger it

Played through Doom 3 in a few days back in the summer of 2004 when it was released—sitting in front of a massive 34" widescreen CRT at 540p, struggling to stay above 30 FPS on a Radeon 9800 XT. Hadn't revisited it until this weekend.

21 years later, discovering RBDoom3 with r_lightscale 1 (so it runs properly dark again) and HD textures feels awesome. Currently replaying it in 2160p, locked at an easy 120 FPS, now on a 42" OLED—a little easier to manage on a desk than that 34" CRT 💪

I felt the same way at first (Original > BFG). Then I started playing with dhewm3 and the D3HDP mod - it looked great initially - but the mediocre antialiasing, bad texture filtering, and 60 FPS cap became annoying quickly, especially at 2160p on a large monitor. It's definitely how I'd still prefer to play it on my 22" 4:3 CRT, though.

Switching to RBDoom3, you can have similar HD textures but with the added benefit of TAA (modern anti-aliasing, which looks fantastic), significantly better texture filtering, and support for 120 FPS. I only had to enable quick save/load, restore the original flashlight behavior, and set r_lightscale 1 to retain the original game's darker atmosphere. Now it looks great and plays close enough to the original for me

A doom 3 remaster with cut content added and quality of life features such as options for how you want your flashlight to be. Visual stuff like changing how your pda UI looks like (the og pda will always win), the og models or even loading screens. An option to play a campaign co-op online. Cut content, like I referred to earlier, like stealth sequences. New jumpscares, and cut monsters/areas. I think that's a lot but would bring doom 3 to life in a very pleasant way.

On pc i play with gzdoom and nugget

And sometimes the kex engine on pc too

Because of the mod library

It's a cool way to find new stuff that nobody else played

Yeah, there's a certain part further in the game you find enemy corpses and body parts inside tubes and they (the PDA downloadable notes) give you the info about those samples

It's pretty cool

It even teases one of the coolest enemies

cutscenes are good but on repeat playthroughs I tend to skip em, also they're not supershort

with that said I also appreciate the OG Xbox port of DOOM 3. They made it work well on console back then, it was considered an impressive feet. I actually like that the levels were a bit simplified (DOOM 3 has some pacing issues imo)
