e5m9 on solonet is one of the meanest openers that I've seen. Cruel. Some 5 or 6 barons and you don't get the bfg until later. Don't see myself doing these on unity uv+ beyond the 4th level but maaaybe on regular uv+

Exactly. Infighting is key here or they will follow you through the crushers
chaingun is actually better by any measurable metric. longer accurate range, no over kill risk, higher dps
doom 1 makes the chaingun shine (because no ssg)
also it's better at stunning mobs
only advantage of shotgun is that it does its damage instantly so shotgun is better if used against stuff like imps and not continuously. Ammo-wise it can go either way. Shells are usually easier to come by but better used for ssg.
only advantage the sg has is alpha strike damage but the chaingun will kill something like a former sergeant almost as quickly
It's just my personal preference in oh shit moments where I need to get rid of Plat targets or mid range targets before focusing on the arena

if i talk about maps i like most of the maps of episode 2
the first 4 maps i love them especially e2m3 'cause its nostalgic for me
because i played in an online emulator which for some reason had some saves (it was the DOS version)and one of the saves had almost any weapon and you appeared in e2m3
in that they don't have the 8(?) tic wake-up time. In terms of earlier patches, the bfg edition used to and possibly still didn't have turbo pinkies on nightmare. Also, unity (the retail port for console) lacked that as well until a later patch
the fast monsters option doesnt have the pain time of pinkies halved

it seems like the pain time isn't halved for fast monsters but I can barely tell a difference in my tests with a pinkie and a chainsaw

GZDoom has certain technicalities that make it not 100% faithful to vanilla so maybe I guess that's why?
in the mobile source port there is a folder called wads and has folder with the wads you downloaded and 3 or 4 images
i think you can change the wad for another one and play it
that doesn't mean that it can play every wad
I doubt it could play something like heartland. Heartland is eternity engine only. Even gzdoom can't play it
deathless is a doom1 wad. make sure you have an IWAD of ultimate doom.

Map 28 has over 2800 monsters and was fun as hell to play

the macro slaughter maps in SOD are pretty straight forward once you get over the initial shock of the monster count
Almost done with eviternity(got beaten by dead batteries + 600 miles from my usual battery stache). I was able to do the first 4 maps of combat shock 2 but 5 looks unrealistic for now. So AV and SoD would be the hardest sets that I actually finish saveless per level but hopefully I can actually do it

i renamed the file bdoomv21.rar to bdoomv21.pk3 then put it in the same folder with gzdoom.exe and put the .wad in that folder too then tried to open gzdoom with brutal doom but when the game opened it was the normal classic doom
where is my mistake
don't rename the bdoomv21.rar to .pk3
download 7-zip or WinRAR to unzip the rar file
and inside should be the Brutal Doom pk3

The wad is what you'll need for sourceports and such and is illegal to distribute, unless it is the shareware doom 1 wad. The EXEs are fine to distribute as long as you're not distributing the wad...

The IWAD (DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD etc.) contains all the assets, meaning graphics, music, and levels. That's what is copyrighted. The source code is open (why you can distribute the exes and sourceports) but the assets are not.
Whats a pwad?
The only IWAD that you can legally share is DOOM1.WAD (the shareware release).
A patch wad. Basically makes the game think the new data is actually the old stuff. Like if you took a picture of Al Pacino, resized it to 320x200, converted it to doom graphic format, put it in a pwad, and renamed it "TITLEPIC", the game would think that is the normal titlescreen and then display it as such.

When those console ports of D1 and 2 came out they werent 16:9, they were 16:10, and the internal resolution was high, no chunkiness in the distance (chunky as in like playing the old pc versions back in the day).
Post their 16:9 aspect ratio / dehacked support patch they nerfed the internal resolution, so that everything became low res and chunky in the distance. While that's "classic" they should have had a toggle in the options, and its not great for more modern wads like BTSX etc.
It's been like a year + and still no fix.
Doom64 on the other hand is in 4k and looks amazing...
(no chunkiness to speak of)

So yeah, v1.0 of dsda-launcher has been released. For those who dont know, this is a launcher GUI for the dsda-doom source port.
It is customizable and has a lot of useful features for speedrunning and regular play
This launcher is also crossplatform and there are builds available for both Windows and MacOS

the other 2. When doom1 was 4 episodes, you could buy it retail
doom released with 3 episodes in 1993. in 1995(after 1994's doom2), Ultimate Doom was sold in stores and old versions of doom1 were updated to Udoom's 4th episode. Among some small bugfixes like lost soul floor bouncing. To this day, they still won't bounce on ceilings

map27, monster condo has a secret which kinda sorta can't be gotten. It is doable but is nearly pixel perfect so demos allow it to be skipped. 87 % (think that's the right number) is accepted. map15 also has an "impossible" secret. the linedef is on the teleporter but the tp moves you off before you can trigger the secret. You need a pain elemental to spawn a lost soul to squish you into the ground. For context, on difficulty, I can do map15s but never got 27's impossible secret.

In terms of speedruns, either category makes sense. But for casual play, the levels are designed around pistol start for the most part. It is hard though, there is a much bigger emphasis on secret hunting with gear resetting. it's a preference

I'll admit that it feels pretty rough for doom2 especially since a ton of levels don't give a supershotgun

I do need to use plasma more. it's so powerful. I just have an aversion to using it since it's less ammo efficient than bfg(bfg tracers deal more damage than plasma bolts)

okay i'll reword it... ult doom is fun when you got multiple ammo types and can mow through waves of enemies but once you run out of ammo... ahem and can only use your shotgun... yeah i hated halls of the damned for two reasons

i don't got doom 2 so for ult doom it'd be... and i'm not a particularly critical person when it comes to ranking maps so prob just cyberdemon boss fight or sloughs of despair... you know the hand? i know it sounds stupid but it was simple enough, just crawl through each finger and return to the palm to get ammo
