It’s still not working for me. When i drag and drop the brutal doom file over the gzdoom file and run it, it doesn’t work

then, another box should pop up that says "Add IWAD". click the three little dots that I've circled, and it should pull up a file browser. Find wherever you have Doom 1 or 2 installed (in your case, I'm guessing where you've installed GZDoom), click on doom.wad. then click on where it says Open

Next, add your Source Port. It's on the other side of the IWAD thing, and it is essentially just the same as the process of adding the wad, except you select gzdoom.exe, and click open.
That zdl launcher looks a hell of qlot different than mine

Finally, click on where it says Launch Config. Under the External Files category, there will be a button that you can press to add a wad/pk3/pk7. add the brutal21.pk3, and click open. Select the IWAD and click Launch.

Which is better graphics wise, Zdoom or doomsday?

- see something in a window.
- go somewhere nowhere near there and flip a switch
- go into the new room and press the wall until it opens

if I can't find a secret and there's no wiki entry or videos, how can I find it? 1. normal proceedures: wall humping, looking at areas that look suspicious for whatever reason, checking map, etc. but after normal means, is there anything with cheats that could help?

idk how long you've been playing, but ultimate doom has some ridiculous secrets
run over this linedef and then run back to one of the 50 windows that you think you heard open, see it close, run over the linedef, repeat, finally make it into the window, get one armor bonus
e4m3 has some extra hard secrets that are not possible to grab while finishing the map. e4m7 has two secrets which require a cyberdemon rocket to perfectly smack you and then using save/loads to manipulate your hight

e4m3 's broken secrets are impossible to get
ZM did get one of them using a specific void glide but the other can't be accessed, and even it if was then there's no way to get back into the map
and there is the intercepts overflow but saving and reloading to fix the overload doesn't work in a demo

Prboom+ for high resolution on modern systems while staying faithful to classic doom, Chocolate Doom for a 100% faithful DOS Doom experience, and GZDoom for wacky mods and stuff
DSDA-DOOM is my favorite, it still has vanilla compatibility while also having many modern features and mapping formats

The thing I like most about Crispy is all of that except for options that are treated like cheats anyway are purely visual and do absolutely nothing to change vanilla gameplay or demo

But there are "command line arguments"
you can open up command prompt or windows terminal and drop the dsda-doom exe on it and use command line arguments i.e -fast
If you're allergic to the terminal you can use ZDL too
i didn't know until yesterday you can go to the file path of where u want to do commands at and just type "cmd" and it will immediately open it up
there is like 90 something .bat and .txt files in dsda doom because i didn't know that

Not pinkies, the barons of hell
The big ones that walk on two feet
Shoot them until they die
Every demon in classic Doom can be killed with any weapon if you shoot it enough times
The barons have 1000HP each so killing them takes a while
Basically just dodge their fireballs, don’t get in melee range, and shoot them a bunch and you’ll eventually win
If you’re playing on UV you can also get them to infight with the specters

They take 5 rockets each (most of the time)
Plasma is amazing
commands like -fast or -nomonsters, yes
commands like changemap map(number), no. DSDA-Doom's console is still quite primitive but kraf said he's gonna develop the console further to support commands like that
so far, the most useful commands in the console for regular players is player.sethealth XXX(Where X is the amount of health you want) and player.setarmor XXX(This time, X is for armor)
changemap isn't needed as a command when it's a normal cheat with idclev##
Change map doesn't reset inventory

But anyway, Scythe is a good place to start, and so is BTSX
They're like medium difficulty
If you want to start going after the really hard stuff, try Crumpets by Ribbiks
yeah i've heard people say Scythe is like a step above plutonia but it's also a good WAD and not just shitty
Honestly it seems like even though plutonia was decently difficult
in the grand scheme of things it's basically easy to any experienced player
or at least seems like it
Going Down is another good recommendation but it's quite hard so not quite yet if you plan on playing everything on ultra violence
Oh right, Heartland is also amazing
Or basically any other Skillsaw WAD
They provide a nice challenge and their aesthetic is amazing
my method of playing is usually just to run though wads of the same difficulty one at a time until I feel better
Scythe's difficulty really peaks at around E3, btw
although recently I was trying to complete entire WADs without saving a single time and I feel like it made me a lot better

Definitely good games. Very simple and easy to "get." Get the keys, kill the demons, reach the exit. Simple, but it works. And if you know what you're doing, there's years worth of challenging content made by the fans, for the fans. Literally cannot go wrong.

Frick I forgot how to telefrag the cyberdemon
when you get up to the part with the cyberdemon
a teleporter will open behind you on the platform
you have to walk all the way up the stairs first though
avoiding the rockets is really the only thing you need to worry about
E4M6 cyberdemon is way worse
I always get the invulnerability on that map but it's still a really shitty place to put a cyberdemon
I think that it could have been designed better if there were like 4 barons there instead
that's the one level in the episode I dread
other than that E4 is my favorite episode

I really can't tell a difference between left stick up + strafe on + turn and left stick diagonal + strafe + turn in terms of speed. angle is obviously different. maybe @dapper flint knows. it is a controller thing

I'll give out a bit of exposition, on the 14th map, a regular shotgun is guarded by barons, imps, hell knights, and archviles
Hell revealed sounds like sycthe 2 but the worst parts
grabbing the rocket launcher triggers a trap that locks you in a room with pinkies and imps, and if you made a sound beforehand(Like shooting a weapon or punching the air) about 10 cacodemons(or more) spawn in
the entire map is riddled with revenant turrets
and they're protected by the blockmap bug
how are they placed to accentuate blockmap issues?
don't forget about the encounters where a cyberdemon teleports into a tiny cramped room, like 2 or 3 times
they're placed in windows right on the edge of blockmaps I'm pretty sure which causes hitscan attacks to miss completely from certain angles
oh, and the only superweapon in the entire map(BFG) requires disgusting parkour to get
and you basically won't get it until near the end of the wap where it becomes nearly useless
bfg is the only superweapon no?
monsters can be on the intersection of a blockmap and be hard to hit from multiple angles yeah
because of you try and get it before, arachnotron turrets will snipe you down
I'll count plasma as a superweapon too
HR also arguably has the worst IOS fight ever
you spawn in a huge slaughter situation and the IOS shotguns 4 spawn cubes at a time
I had a horrible time trying to complete HR
as bad as it is, it's fundamental for the level of difficulty that many megawads present today
oh no I forget you get plasma rifle in map14 too
I think it's guarded by a horse of imps though that'll try to stop you from jumping onthe the small platform that it rests on
but at that point you probably have the rocket launcher so it won't matter too much
HR is more grindy than hard
It's pretty fun coop but I wouldn't play it solo, or recommend it to new players
what are some good maps for coop? especially with a sizeable skill gap between the two players? (and ports good for local coop...ig unity lol)
zandronum is the easiest to set up and allows you to play the most different wads.
as for good wads, depends if you're doing survival (limited lives) or not. but something like alien vendetta or speed of doom are fun megawads to play. sunlust if you want something a bit spicier
Joshy really did great with Ancient Alien's map28 (Floating Arena). It's a huge number of high tier monsters but it's a coop party with cybers. It ends up being accessible even as a sort of slaughter map.

Certainly, doom2 has a lot more going for it mechanically (most custom maps nowadays use doom2.WAD as the IWAD ofc. But that's just because it has extra stuff.

The difficulty from sigil comes from you being able to utilize combat in small spaces with limited ammo. No rest gives you bullets and a ton of space most of the time

Nah, despite NRFTL having bigger fights and the Doom 2 enemies, SIGIL doesn't have a super shotty and it relies more on tight rooms and traps.

I recommend DSDA-Doom , Crispy or Chocolate if you want really vanilla, Eternity Engine for a mix between Boom and ZDoom based ports, and GZDoom if you want modding capabilities

theoretically at max it can take only 10 shotgun blasts(Max damage at 100) but there is no way you'd get 10 max damage rolls in a row
By the way taking 15 shots to die is a terrifying thought on such a creature. In real life that happens with animals that have hide too thick for buckshot
and if you do, you're the only person who can beat doom II map30 as a pacifist

from what I can tell, DSDA doom is the best for most vanilla-ish wads. But eternity is better for heartland(only one where it works lol) or if you need a controller. GZ doom is good for controller users, people who don't care about a really vanilla experience, and heavier mods. Crispy or chocolate are almost entirely for emulating the most classic feel stuff but DSDA can do that too at lower comp levels
Eternity has the best controller
However it doesn't have a functional solo net
And the devs don't care about a functional solo net
