TNT has a neatness factor, yeah... but that wears off really quick

If you die in a level, you restart with just the pistol unless you reload from your last save.

I didnt use to like ancient aliens much at all. Now its comfortably in my top 10 of all time, lol
I do enjoy Ancient Aliens more than Valiant, seems more refined combat wise
Valiant had some grindy levels where you're basically just shooting tons of high hp monsters

I remember the skyscrapers in water in valiant, that level always confuses me progression wise

the codes are cheats so ye, it is
like what was said, it's literally called a cheat code but at the same time I don't think people will care unless you are trying to do something competitive (like recording a demo).
I constantly use noclip to find remaining monsters
Sometimes if a secret Im missing requires some jump I noclip back to the cliff if I fail
as do I. ZDoom is nice that it lets you bind a key to noclip

The longer I play Doom, the more I find Speed of Doom to be the ultimate case of lightning in a bottle

GZDoom would most probably be the best port if it weren't for my purist side coming through to notice enough differences in the strict vanilla compatibility and very little demo support ;-;

Blooms pretty okay honestly. As long as it doesn't effect gameplay
For custom wads you can just drag them onto gzdoom.exe
You will need to have the iwad in the same folder as gzdoom (doom2.wad etc)
zdl for streamlining mods in zdoom ports
makes it a lot easier to load multiple wads at the same time
zdl is very great

For example if you want to change map01 midi, you get any midi you want online or you made yourself

Here's a quick fact on how to change the midi on doom 2
If you see a name with "D_" on it, that means it's a music
If I remember right, the music is placed in the correct order in the DOOM 2 wad itself, like it goes D_RUNNIN, D_STALKS, D_COUNTD, D_BETWEE, etc.
So you can use that as a point of reference too.

As Bridgeburner said, inside DOOM2.WAD, sound should be dsbosdth. Use Slade 3 Doom Editor to open up wads. If you don't have DOOM2.WAD or a Final Doom wad, I can't help there, lol.
Sorry bridge, but I have to disagree with you here. GZDoom is great, but far from a faithful port. Just see the ship sequence on my Ray Mohawk map and compare it with a cl2 port. That or the fact that I had to almost rebuit D4V on decorate should be enough to show it's problems in terms of compatibility. >_<
i'm not sure you understand what compatible means 
i've never had issues with D4V on gzdoom
exactly, because I had to "redo" a few things on decorate in order to work properly
I want to make a list in the future that hopefully will be helpful to the GZDoom staff. I would love to see the port improved on that front as well.

I found it, it’s a little odd though there’s some extra data I’ll try to figure out what it is but you can access all the wads you have downloaded for the unity port at C:users[your username]\Saved Games\id Software\doom 2\wads
Each file there is in the order of download I think, or maybe in the order of release? It’ll either be 3 for you or something else. Open that folder and check for nerve1.jpg, with the folder with that in it change the file with the same number as the folder to NERVE.wad and there you go
There’s 3 extra files from what I can see, a text file that’s for the unity port, and two images, no idea why the images are so large

I've beaten doom 1 and 2 while savin only at the start of each level and on UV but TNT and plutonia i cant, especially TNT since i dont wanna be replaying 20 minute long levels again and again, sounds tedious as hell
It really isn't by the 3rd attempt because you didn't save and learned the map you cut the time down
good job. my advice is to not play sunlust after all

True but TNT especially has long ass maps that you cant just cut through and still have to kill monsters
Yeah I'd probably want to play Sunlust a few times before no saves for sure
I'm saying if you don't save you learn the map and the combat loop so it becomes less tedious. Where saving you're not learning much and chances are after your 30th replay of the map with saves you're doing the exact same thing you did the first time

You're right at that, its definetely something to help you improve yourself at the overall experience, i can maybe try it on a few wads but i aint certain
A good example is like throwing a basketball but you get a save before your every shot. You'll get it in but you've taken away the chance for you to practice and get better. I don't know it's hard to explain really
Yeah i get it, i mostly save 3-4 times on an average map nowadays, its not much but it helps me remember the overall map better

Yeah and I did the same. Usually what I do is one playthrough with as many saves as I want. Second 4 saves third 2 and forth 1 then none

For Harder maps I mean it really depends
I save before and after fights on challenge wads, and every 5 min or so on easy stuff. Mostly because I hate having to repeat stuff

I don't really do anything saveless unless I'm demo recording lol (but I practice them in segments anyway)

i only use it on switch lmao, i use gzdoom for everything but lilith
actually running unity on steam and not gzdoom causes all colors except for black and white to be inverted, it's a problem with my apu
ywah other than switch and lilith, i use gzdoom with smoothdoom, high-res audio pack, and a custom music wad i made using andrey avkhimovich's remakes

but what I don't like about it the most is how it can automatically fix broken WADs/my purist side showing through and seeing flaws in the strict vanilla compatibility setting(Although that is totally not Graf's fault, it's ZDoom's fault)
Oh yeah that, too many beginner mappers only test maps in gzdoom, where the map is broken in every way, but they don't realize that because gzdoom automatically fixes everything

GZDoom is actually even advanced enough to patch over broken linedefs, textures, and even unbuilt nodes
which is good if you're strictly GZDoom(nothing super wrong with that tbh)but if you're testing a map/wad you made with only GZDoom(Unless it's a GZDoom-strict WAD), get a vanilla port ASAP

maps that may not be broken in GZDoom can be hilariously broken on a more vanilla port
I think this issue can actually be fixed without GZDoom changing anything
UDB should be more clear on different map formats
and provide just a short sentence of information
when you go to select the map format
explaining what's this format is used for and where you should playtest it

It's pretty fun imho. It's just that the combat is very trash for a DOOM game, although the reasons are legitimate - considering it as a game specifically made for phones in mid-2000s.
It's just so different. A neat, weird little game
I liked cyberden but yeah, after playing other wads which more aggressively use cybers, it runs out of steam. Still, it's a good map to introduce the notion that a cyberdemon is a regular foe.
Map 29 doom 2 is thee most fun map on nightmare hands down
DSDA for sure. I use that on a laptop that has a dual-core Pentium and very basic graphical ability and it's fine

I wouldn’t have, especially with how you have to fire the rockets in a specific spot on the way up
There is a Cyberdemon towards the end of the map, but you can skip right to the exit portal that will take you to Map30 - if there wouldn't be the Icon of Sin, the final act of the map would have been another encounter with the Cyberdemon as a boss, since The Shores of Hell.

Also re: icon of sin fights, in terms of the context of the actual release, it's a great idea. If it wad 1994 and the first time you've seen it, it's a unique and interesting boss concept. Now however, there have been 8 million ios fights made and this definitely a star concept. You do occasionally see something different, like in speed of doom map 30 (I think that's the one with then tower and 100 ios spawners). Plutonia 2's go 4 it has a fun ios finisher too.
Actually there was a HSS speed map that had a great ios fight
But it is rare to find something novel with the ios these days.

I had an idea of how I'd have done the fight, and it actually uses some of the same tricks they did, which took me a while to theorize on. This kind of thing occupies my brain a lot. Doom 2 was more limited than what later titles using the same engine did, and I used to think on it like it had the capabilities of Heretic, Hexen, Strife, or Doom 64. What I'd have done is have the big bad red devil man they wanted to avoid but give him extra added help under the illusion the monster was doing it, with the same boss eyes and boss targets the Icon uses. Have them in intervals say, dropping meteors on those targets, or doing archvile attacks against them, not constantly of course. The big monster is immune to these things and is still your real target, and his actual attack can be I dunno, a red bfg ball? At best lazy Nitrogolem style homing. That and instant death melee to make BFG baiting it a bad idea. Obligatory 6666 HP. I could probably cobble this together if I could sprite. We got what we got.

what is the intended mechanic though? I've had different swap mechancs from unity to eternity: on eternity, if I run out of ammo for my current weapon, it'll auto swap me to the next weapon in priority that I have ammo (plasma, ssg, chaingun, shotgun,...). But on unity, I can swap it to any weapon I like when I run out of ammo and if I pick up ammo during the last firing animation (say shoot bfg with 40 cells and pick up a cell pack as it fires), it would stay on that weapon.
In vanilla, there's a preset of every weapon when you run out of ammo for your current one
If you pick up ammo for the gun you ran out of ammo(i.e a shotgun) it will automatically swap to that weapon

Anyone been playing that Doom 32x romhack that came out recently. It's very impressive, it can be comfortably compared to the DOS version in terms of playability, plus the Sega FM sound fits Doom's soundtrack like a glove, I've been loving what I've been playing so far.
What's it called?
Doom 32x Resurrection. You have to download a patch and apply it to a European ROM of the 32x port of Doom, but there's plenty of videos and tutorials that show you how to do all that on YouTube.

I am unfamliar with the Switch port, I mostly play random source ports on various PC platforms.
Switch port is pretty bleh. Just hold run and give yourself room to accelerate

For unity you need to be at a 40 degree angle and sprint to sr50 it isn't just hold the sprint button

I've gotten to the red key clearing that really ugly group of revenants/archviles that spawn in but still gotta route what to do afterwards to finish up the blue key switch. It's so common that map 30's are a joke after the penultimate map but Erik Alm is an exception.

Add that as the protip to your content when it's out Bridge. But not until the player dies like 10 times. Instead of a comment about Sentinel Armor like doom eternal you get that protip.

A crazy feat that BTSX is vanilla compatible. I think the last patch especially for BTSX 1 added more teeth to many traps highlighting the important fights that the older version sorely missed. Really liked E2 moving away from the heavy techbases and the last 20% is fantastic.

I thought it would be boring and slow because of its age but it really cool
same im playing on pc rn and it surpassed my expectations, the difficulty high is hard af ngl
it's good. take breaks and practice cuz the maps are long but they are all doable even if you're relatively new
