fun fact: you can get into a pain elementals face and chainsaw them to death
but to do that you need to be directly in front of them so you can spawn-frag the lost souls that it shoots
but then once it reaches it's death state, chaingun and RUN
I think they're pretty good since you can wipe two out at once lol

I genuinely canāt find much on it at the moment, you could also try a different DOSBOX version or a fork of it just to see if that fixes it

Apparently if the mouse sensitivity is set too high it can cause crashes

I've actually found the built-in Addons menu in the Unity port more annoying to use just because of the fact you need a Bethesda account to even access it and the fact it constantly logs me out

so an IWAD is sorta like an "official" DOOM wad. Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom are the IWADs. PWADs are basically fanmade maps. They require an IWAD to play and are loaded aside IWADs.

IMO DOOM and Plutonia are the good IWADs in terms of maps. Plenty of good PWADs like Hell Revealed and Alien Vendetta.
I can vouch that Bridgeburner the mod here has made some spectacular maps. Far better than any IWAD map IMO - but also more recent.

yeah you shouldnt compare yourself to others, my point was that you dont need silly things like blindfolds or no hud or whatever to make doom hard, it already has an almost impossible difficulty level built in
@remote cedar This isn't the case. The distinction isn't about whether it's official or not. For example freedoom1.wad is an IWAD and NRFTL is a pwad. But freedoom isn't ID licensed whereas NRFTL is. The distinction is that an IWAD has all of the data necessary to be used in the game: levels, textures, sprites, music, sound effects, Whereas a PWAD cannot run on its own as it needs to be Patched onto an IWAD to run. This distinction is important for map makers because the source code(the logic and engine) for doom is free to use (which also means that derivatives like boom,mbf, mbf21, zdoom are fully legal) whereas the sprites and textures and the like are not free to use. So if you want to play a mod, the legal requirement is either a) using a free alternative for the visuals and audio like freedoom, OR purchasing doom2.wad for the textures and sprites.

It's more how many continue to be made
Even if you can tackle every single one made to this point, there would be hundreds more released since you started
I know, I was joking. Although I have played all the WADs on the DOOM Wiki, if that means anything. And I work with the DOOM WAD World youtube channel, which plays many more from the archives.

Classic Doom lore is highly unorganized, basic, and strange, while modern's is somehow well-written for the most part
that also makes sense considering imps and archviles
The main antagonist of my novels also has blood as hot as fire.

honestly it might be similar with how quickly they hit the 21 lost soul limit
like at a certain point, more PE's doesn't really matter in vanilla
you can legit just punch them to death at close range since you can spawn-frag their lost souls too
but the lost souls count as projectils when the PE's spawn them, so if they hit a barrel, its like a domino effectg
PEs are one of the most weak demons if not the weakest because they legit donāt have an attack whatsoever
but they're just as annoying

I believe Decino uses the IDDT command to restart maps and pistol start maps. Sometimes, he also uses a useful keybind for rewinding on blind playthroughs that is built into DSDA (I think).

I'm having a lot of difficulty with Go 2 It.
Natural, but after the momentum I briefly had when reaching there (Finally beating The Twilight, then Cyberden in one run, then reaching what I presume was the final significant encounter of Go 2 It - the section by the opening with a ton of Chaingunners?), it's definitely frustrating.
The third wave in the Courtyard is just painful; by the time I'm able to attack those Archviles from the balcony with more than one BFG shot, I get slammed with Revenant/Arachnotron attacks, and once I dodge those, half the planet has been resurrected and are now demonic shields for the Archviles.
I've got a loose strategy of using the eastern corridor as a way to stream Archviles and Revenants out, but it's difficult to build off of that without just getting trapped and blown apart, even with the spare Megasphere.
it's ok to take it slowly. That's the safest way to do these old-style slaughter maps. I think of a map like this as a fortress. Different parts of the map defend other parts. Like the cyberdemon in the hallway defends the chaingunners. The mancs defend the pains. But you can choose to fight them slowly: attacking less defended forces to open up to attack the enemies that they defended
Woof or Crispy has something similar if I remember correctly as I remember getting mad as hell when I accidentally restarted a level right near the end of it

its made by the same guy. its basically crispy but based on the mbf source code instead of vanilla so its able to run boom/mbf maps

When I was 6 years old and the only gamea I knew were serious sam, nfsmw and doom 2 for me it was the best map. Now Im 16, played more than 400 maps and still tricks and traps is the best for me
Better if I express my thoughts of this map on my native language

The super vertical maps are really awesome and not something you see often even in gzdoom because Iād assume 3d floors become a pain to work with when you have many many floors and lots of detailing on them, and its portals arenāt nearly as seamless
Also the portals on polyobjects allowing for the complex moving set pieces are insanely awesome as well

A well aimed shotgun kills chaingunners just as well as the ssg

Random question but I canāt find an answer on google. How the hell did doom 2 release so quickly? They had a small team and released doom 1 it says in December of 93 but then in may of 94 released doom 2 thatās barely 5 months later

It was built off of doom 1 so it only required some minor extra code to add the attacks of the new monsters and some extra actions, and reused most of the doom 1 textures so they didn't need to make that many textures, and then they just made Sandy Peterson grind half of the levels

chaingunner has 70 health. Shotgun does 5,10, or 15 damage with each of its 7 pellets. So you need at least an average shot to kill them even with a full 7 pellets. This means that your probability of OTKing them is at most 1/2. But in reality, you probably aren't hitting every pellet so the real probability is less

pwad is to distinguish from iwad, the latter being the complete data for the game (Doom 1, Doom 2) and the former being a "patch" wad which just adds or overwrites the info on the iwad
it's why you need both an iwad and a pwad to load any custom stuff

haaay i started modding doom for the first time and i paired voxeldoom with led's generic weapons, and for some reason the assault rifle, pistol and minigun have infinite ammo despite looking through all the settings and turning off everything that's relevant. The HUD doesn't list bullets for one, and i can just keep shooting forever

Iwads are the backbone of what Doom experience you want (Integral WAD)
Pwads (Player-WAD) are the add-ons/expansions that goes beyond the integral Doom 2 experience (the IWAD of Doom 2) and enhances it in some way (different levels, sounds, textures, etc)
Iwads: Doom, Doom 2, Plutonia - Integral standalone Doom content
Pwads: Brutal Doom, Amogus.pk3, Hell Revealed - Player Created Content that uses an IWAD as its springboard

IWADs for more clarification: Those WADS you see at the start of booting a WAD with GZDoom? Those are all IWADs
They ask which one to boot with because all of the IWADs are different. Yes, even TNT and Plutonia are different because they have id Tech 1 engine changes.
IWADs provide the engine, while PWADs have other content inside to add onto the main engine (or just resource changes like PKās Doom HQ SFX pack)

hello doom people, I'm currently doing a project I'd like to turn into a youtube video series doing an analysis of all the demons from doom - including their game design, appearances including speculative biology and their cultural significance
unfortunately I was born after the releasees of doom 1-3 and was curious if people would be willing to answer a survey about their memories of each demon type from the original games. I'm currently doing my "research" and am half way through Doom II, but would like to get the insight of people who actually played those games when they were released to see what they think - without the biases that I've developed growing up with games that have better graphics and with the soft-rebooted designs of 2016 and eternal in my mind

Myhouse.wad is not a hack like other PWADs, it merely uses an advanced version of the iDTech1 engine and some cool mapping tricks that defy what usually is done and seen in normal doom maps (like the doors)

You could just pick up a sourceport
If you want an experience as close to DOS as possible, I recommend getting Chocolate Doom
If you want a faithful experience with quality of life features, you can get DSDA-DOOM
And if you just want something that just feels comfortable to play there's always GZDoom

You just launch GZDoom and it should automatically find your Steam purchase of the game, giving you a context menu to choose the game you want to play
Otherwise if it can't find it you can always drag and drop the WAD file of the game you want to play onto GZDoom

well yes, you can create doom mods on mac, however you would not be able to play them on your xbox
but you could if you got doom on your mac or a pc
there are two main types of mods
gameplay mods, which add and change the enemies and weapons of the game
and there are maps, which are custom environments for you to play in
instead of the default levels
i will say, if you want to get doom on your computer, you should get doom 2 because it is much more versatile for modding since it has more enemies
and the majority of mods and maps are made for it
if you are interested in gameplay mods, look up a tutorial for ZScript online, it is a primitive programming language that is used get edit the monsters and weapons of the game
Just adding onto Enatorās second message here. You could either run a Windows VM (if thatās even still possible with Appleās new Mx APUs) or use mapping/modding tools made for Mac. Though I canāt tell you how good those said tools are
if you are interested in maps, look up a tutorial for the slade map editor

they are creating them in some form of image editing software like photoshop
either drawing them from scratch or editing existing sprites

You are going to want to install the GZDoom source port (a source port is a modification of doom's code which was released to the public)
and then you want to buy Doom 2 on steam or gog (two game selling platforms)
and then when you run gzdoom, it should detect the installed game on your computer
and it will let you play with mods
iirc GZDoom has issues finding the IWAD on Mac

You need to do some specific stuff with Macs
in that case, once you install the game from steam, you need to go into your steam files and find the file called doom2.wad and move it to your gzdoom folder

the problem is that just edits rockets andd calls the default player rocket shoot codepointer
which seems to propel the entity despite it not being a missile
whereas A_MonsterProjectile does not for some reason
the thing that mbf21 does is it adds codepointers that have arguments
Was gonna mention using the attack from the cyber but thatās just gonna edit the player missies, too
and the cyberdemon lol
so instead of having all of these fixed functions like A_CyberAttack and A_SpidAttack, you get A_MonsterProjectile with arguments for what projectile thing its firing and angle and position offsets
but im trying to figure out why it doesnt propel the grenades while the fixed player codepointer does
when they should just be calling the same P_SpawnMissile function just with different parameters

after doom 2, they made quake
which has jumping, the ability to look up and down, and 3d geometry
then after that they made quake 2, then they decided to return to the doom series and make doom 3
thus why doom 3 is so wildly different

Doomcute isn't a particular wad(or maybe it is but it's also a type of thing). Doomcute is using doom's level editor to make realworld stuff like desks or vending machines. It was first popularized in doomcity in the 90s. Also, more contemporarily, it's found all over cyriak's stuff like going down

- Make Graphics Backend to the Software renderer
- Turn off all advanced movement (freelook, crouching, jumping)
- If you move forward and backwards for some reason when moving the mouse up and down, turn the vertical sens all the way down
- Maybe turn on strict vanilla compatibility
all I can think of without actually going into the settings and changing stuff
I donāt really use GZDoom so I donāt know itās settings as well as something like Woof or Crispy Doom
also if you really wanted to go a bit more classic with GZ, you could set the FPS limit to 35 as well
what I personally do as I donāt have uncapped framerates on with other ports I use
